At the Redmi 9A launch in India, Xiaomi revealed that it has shipped more than 34.6 million Redmi A series of smartphones in the country since 2017. The Redmi 8A Dual, which the brand launched in February is the number one selling smartphone in India as per IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, June 2020. Now, this handset has begun to receive Android 10 update.

It was strange of Xiaomi to launch Redmi 8A Dual with Android Pie in February 2020. Anyway, the phone comes with MIUI 11 and is also eligible for MIUI 12. Before seeding out the company’s latest mobile software, the firm has decided to update it first to Android 10.

Currently, the build is being rolled out to a handful of users (via @Mi_Updates on Telegram). If they find no issue, it will be made available for more users, followed by a complete rollout in the coming days.

That said, the Android 10 update for Redmi 8A Dual in India comes with build number V11.0.1.0.QCQINXM. This phone is also sold as Redmi 8A Pro in Indonesia but that variant is yet to receive this update.

Also, it is worth noting that Xiaomi is yet to provide Android 10 update for Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T though all other devices from its generation as well as the previous generation have received it.

Xiaomi has been updating its smartphones to MIUI 12 for the past few months. Additionally, the company has been also rolling out Android 10 update to its 2019 Redmi budget smartphones. Redmi 8A, the second cheapest handset launched by the company last year is now receiving this update worldwide.

Just like any other Xiaomi device, the Redmi 8A first received Android 10 update in China, It was rolled out late last month. Slowly, the update has now made it to all the international versions of the handsets except Indonesia, which we believe will be receiving it soon.

Since the Chinese variant got the update in July, the build for that variant comes with July 2020 security patch. Similarity, the Global Variant also gets the same patch as its update was rolled in the first week of August. On the other hand, all other variants of Redmi 8A are receiving Android 10 update with August 2020 security patch.

Having said that, the Redmi 8A is also eligible for MIUI 12 but it won’t be getting Android 11 like other 2019 budget smartphones.

Xiaomi has been lately updating its last year’s budget smartphones to Android 10 worldwide. Like always, the company began to roll it out first in China, followed by other regions. The Redmi 8 got the update in early July in the firm’s home country. Now, it has finally started to receive it in India as well.

The Android 10 update for Redmi 8 in India comes with build number V11.0.1.0.QCNINXM. The OTA update also bumps up the security patch level to August 2020. The changelog also mentions only these two things but there could be certain bug fixes as well.

The Redmi 8 is not the only 2019 budget Xiaomi smartphone to get Android 10 in India this week. The Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7S, and Redmi Note 7 Pro are also receiving it. However, it is worth noting that the update for these devices is being seeded out in batches.

We except the company to start a wider rollout by the end of this month or early next month. Anyway, if you own any of the above handsets, you will get Android 10 as well as MIUI 12 in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, none of them is eligible for Android 11 but may receive MIUI 13 next year.

After over a year from their launch, Xiaomi has finally rolled out Android 10 update for Redmi Note 7/7S and Redmi Note 7 Pro in India. Unfortunately, the update comes with MIUI 11 and not the latest MIUI 12. The OTA update is being rolled out in batches and will be hitting every unit in the coming days.

These devices have already received Android 10 in Chia back in June. They were thought to get this update in India in July but that did not happen. Anyway, it is finally being seeded out now.

The Android 10 update for these phones is being rolled out to limited users. Xiaomi calls this type of builds as Stable Beta. If the users who already received it don’t face any issues, the company will gradually seed it out to more users.

The build for Redmi Note 7/7S comes with August 2020 security patch, whereas the one for Redmi Note 7 Pro features July 2020 security patch level. That said, here are the build numbers of Android 10 for these devices.

Xiaomi Mi 10 units in India have started receiving the MIUI 11 update in India. The software version V11.0.5.0.QJBINXM is the stable build for the latest ROM version and is currently being rolled out. The new update brings the latest Android 10 based MIUI 11 custom skin, which features some notable aspects.

The Chinese tech giant shared the news on Twitter through its official MIUI India handle. MIUI 11 is being rolled out progressively, which means that all Mi 10 users in India should be receiving the update. So for those that have yet to get the notification, can check for the update manually through the Updater app. Furthermore, Xiaomi has also made the ROM packages for the update available online, with a download size of 2.5GB and step by step instruction as well.

Apart from the latest variant of the custom skin from the company, the MIUI 11 brings NavIC support to the Mi 10. The update also brings changes to the status bar, notification shade, optimizes Wi-Fi 6 icon, and even brings in the April 2020 security patch. Recently, Mi 10 users are also eligible for the Android 11 Beta 1 update, which is mainly to test the latest generation of Android on the device. Xiaomi launched the Mi Note 10 as a rebranded Mi CC9 Pro for international markets. It is the world’s first smartphone to feature 108MP camera. But it is also one of the last phones from the brand to receive Android 10 update, which is currently being rolled out to a handful of users with the global variant.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 comes in three variants for international markets – Global, Europe (EEA), and Russia. However, the Android 10 update is only available for Global, that too for a few set of users. 

For the unaware, this kind of MIUI builds is known as Stable Beta. If there’s positive feedback from the users, then the same build will be rolled out to all. If not, a new build will be released again with bug fixes.

Anyway, talking about the update, it comes with build number MIUI 11.1.1.0.QFDMIXM and weighs 2.6GB in size. The software is still MIUI 11 with MIUI 12 scheduled to arrive in a couple of months from now. Last but not least, the security patch level also gets a bump to April 2020.

Two days back, Xiaomi revealed AOD+ (Always-on Display) ahead of MIUI 12 announcement scheduled for April 27. Now, the feature is already live for MIUI 11 users via the latest versions of MIUI Themes and MIUI Always-on display. Interested users of Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones with OLED display can try it now.

To use the new AOD+ functionality on MIUI 11, the user’s phone must have an OLED display and should run Android Pie or Android 10. Then, they will have to install MIUI Themes v1.7.6.0 and MIUI Always-on display v1.19.387, which you can download from the link provided at the end of the post.

Once the APKs are installed, open MIUI Themes, navigate to the new AOD section and download as well as apply a style of your choice from over 1000+ options. Followed by that, head over to Settings -> Always-on display & Lock screen, then turn on Ambient display if it is not. Lastly, go to Style which is present on the same page and customize the applied AOD style as per your choice.

Unfortunately, the specified version of MIUI Themes app is not installing on our Redmi K20 Pro Indian unit running the current stable MIUI v11.0.4.0. But the MIUI Always-on display app does install, however, without the former app, it is impossible to download new MAML format animated AOD styles.

Also, we don’t have access to any other Xiaomi / Redmi smartphone with an OLED display at the moment. Additionally, the early access for AOD+ could be limited to Chinese devices. Hence, if it’s not working on your region-specific MIUI ROM, then do try flashing the latest MIUI China ROM available for your handset.

Xiaomi’s MIUI Android skin is well-known for its themes. The MIUI Theme app enables users to select from a variety of options that are both free and paid. Now, the company has released a new beta update of this app in China, which has incorporated a new AOD (Always-on Display) section.

The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has been launching phones with OLED display for a few years now. But the AOD functionality was only introduced late last year with MIUI 11. This option is part of the phone’s system settings and new AOD styles are added only through system updates.

However, that will change soon as the company is testing AODs directly in the MIUI Themes app with support for designs and styles from different developers apart from the official team. This is surely good news for users of Xiaomi smartphones with an OLED display as the current selection of AOD styles is limited.

Samsung popularized custom AOD themes when it introduced the functionality with the launch of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. It also allows developers to upload different styles on the Galaxy Themes app, however, most of them are paid.

But in the case of Xiaomi, the company made MIUI Themes free with the launch of MIUI 11 last year with an exception for certain copyrighted content. This means, the AOD styles on MIUI Themes app will be most likely free giving Xiaomi users an edge over Samsung. That doesn’t mean the developers don’t earn anything as they are now paid based on ad-revenue.

We are not sure how Xiaomi will roll out this feature as the current implementation is deeply rooted within the system. Either the company will release a new MIUI 11 version with certain changes and fixes or it will debut on MIUI 12 in the second half of 2020.

Xiaomi has a long history of updating its entire smartphone lineup to the latest MIUI version available at the time. However, the same cannot be said for the underlying Android platform the MIUI builds are based on. And thus, five of the brand’s yesteryear flagships and their lite devices are receiving the Android 10 stable update only now. The list includes the likes of Mi 8, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 SE, Mi 9 SE, and Mi 9 Lite.

All the above-mentioned Xiaomi devices were already updated to MIUI 11 in Q4 2019. But all of them received releases based on Android 9.0 Pie rather than the latest version of Android. Xiaomi released MIUI 11 just a few months back and now reports have already started popping up regarding the next iteration of the company’s Android skin called MIUI 12. One of the latest leaks includes an alleged release timeline, whereas a new report suggests the development to begin as soon as next week.

According to a Mi Community post titled ‘MIUI 12 Official and Update Schedule’, which has been now taken down, the first private beta builds of MIUI 12 will be released in September, followed by public beta builds from October. Lastly, the stable release is expected to begin in December. However, it is important to note that this information was posted by a profile with a tag ‘Mi Influencer’. And therefore, it is highly recommended to digest this MIUI 12 release schedule with a pinch of salt.

On the other hand, the changelog of the latest MIUI in-test development build mentioned something big to be announced next week. Now, when users in China search on the official MIUI website to participate in the beta program, the ‘Not Found’ error dialog prompt mentions ‘MIUI 12’ suggesting the big announcement scheduled for next week is indeed to do something about MIUI 12. The Mi CC9 or Mi 9 Lite as it is known outside China, launched last year as the first of a new series from Xiaomi in partnership with Meitu.

When it launched, the Mi CC9 ran Android 9 Pie out of the box. Now, Xiaomi has begun rolling out a new MIUI 11 update that brings Android 10 to the phone. This is a stable update that is limited to China and it comes with the February 2020 security patch. Hopefully, the update will soon be made available for the Mi 9 Lite.

The update arrives as MIUI V11.0.1.0.QFCCNXM and is 2.3GB in size. The update also fixes some bugs in the device.

The Mi CC9 has a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch for a 32MP selfie camera. There is a Snapdragon 710 processor powering it along with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of expandable storage.

On the back are a 48MP primary rear camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. There is a fingerprint scanner under the display, an infrared blaster at the top, and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. The Mi CC9 also has NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, an audio jack, and FM radio. It packs a 4030mAh battery capacity with support for 18W fast charging.

For those unaware, the MIUI custom skin is a heavily modified interface based on the Android operating system. So by its extension, the MIUI 11 is based on the latest Android 10. However, officials have stated that users should back up their data on the Xiaomi Mi 8 before starting the update. The reason for this is that certain apps have yet to optimize or be compatible with Android 10.

Xiaomi has commenced the OTA push of Android 10-based MIUI 11 Global stable updates for the flagship Mi Mix 3. The Mi Mix 3 is the current flagship model for the Mix series and was launched last year running Android 9 with the MIUI 10 overlay. The series started receiving Android 10 updates in China around December last year but users outside China had to wait until now for the update.

The Android 10 update arrives with the version number MIUI 11.0.3.0 QEEMIXM and has a size of 2GB. Apart from the major changes and features that Android 10 offers, the update also ushers in the February 2020 security patch and a couple of bug fixes.

After months of waiting, Xiaomi has begun rolling out the Android 10 update for the Mi A3 Android One phone and the MIUI-running Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The Mi A3 was originally expected to get the update weeks ago but a recent report said there was a delay due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Thankfully, the update is now available for owners of the phone and there is even a download link available thanks to XDA Developers for those who do not wish to wait for the OTA to arrive on their devices.

The update for the Mi A3 is 1.3GB in size and comes as version V11.0.7.0.QFQMIXM. You can manually download it from the first source link below. The changelog says system stability has been increased and system lag has reduced. However, Android 10 brings quite a number of interesting new features such as smart reply, Family Link for Digital Wellbeing, new gesture-based navigation, and of course, a system-wide Dark Mode.

The update for the Redmi Note 8 Pro is currently rolling out in the EEA, Russia, and Pakistan. It weighs in at 1.9GB and comes with February 2020’s security patch.

The update description of the MIUI 11 version 20.2.17 closed beta development version for some models has been released by Xiaomi. According to an announcement on the MIUI forum, due to the late resumption of work after the Spring festival caused by the epidemic, only some models were included this week. However, the schedule may be affected by the prevailing coronavirus epidemic.

• Accessing calendar events
• Accessing call history
• Making a phone call
• Taking photos or recording videos
• Accessing or saving items to the clipboard
• Accessing contacts
• Accessing your location
• Reading your text messages
• Accessing sensor data
• Accessing activity info
• Accessing device info
• Reading your phone number
• Accessing or saving files in the background

The entire process starts when an app after being launched, simultaneously, chain launches other apps and utilizes sensitive permissions to perform the aforementioned sensitive actions. As of right now, users have the option to receive such notifications and can still opt to mute it. The new feature is much appreciate and we ook forward to what more it could lead to in the near future. Xiaomi‘s flagship smartphone for this year is just around the corner. The Mi 10 will be the successor to the Xiaomi Mi 9 from last year and will be a premium grade smartphone. Now, a new report has revealed the existence of a Mi 10 Pro variant alongside the standard Mi 10 version.

Reportedly, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro was discovered via the MIUI 11 codes which have also revealed that one of the smartphones in the Mi 10 series will support 66W fast wired charging capabilities. According to the source, MIUI 11 v20.1.6 build from 16th January 2020 for the Redmi K30 5G contained codenames for two devices alongside the marketing names.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 has been designated with the codename M2001J2C while the Mi 10 Pro has been assigned M2001J1C. This has also confirmed the Mi 10 series will support 66W fast wired charging, which will likely be featured on the higher variant, the Mi 10 Pro. Although Xiaomi has teased 100W fast charging in the past, it seems there is still time before a commercial appearance as of right now.

Previously, a smartphone with the M2001J1C codename had been spotted in China’s CCC certification portal last year in November 2019, which is now believed to be the Mi 10 Pro. Notably, another smartphone codenamed M2001J1E also supports 66W fast charging and judging by the previous two flagship Xiaomi smartphone, it could be an Explorer Edition of the Mi 10 series. However, this is just speculation at best.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 9 on the same day as Samsung’s Galaxy S10 series but its doubtful if that would be repeated again. You don’t have to wait anymore for the feature as you can now get the feature on your Mi or Redmi smartphone following these simple steps.

How to get the app drawer in MIUI 11 devices?
The app drawer is part of the MIUI system launcher so you’ll need to download a new MIUI system launcher. Xiaomi enabled the feature on the alpha build of MIUI launcher in several Xiaomi devices back in November but as stated earlier, the update was restricted to devices running MIUI 11 China ROM.

Right now, you can get it on the latest alpha build of MIUI system launcher for models running MIUI 11 Global ROM as well. Here is how to enable the app drawer on your Xiaomi device.

Some of the fixes include the inability to open notification settings in the Notification shade in Second Space and inability to notification shade in some cases. Both bugs have now been fixed. The changelog also says that Game Turbo has been optimized. Some users in Europe have also reported that Themes is now available for them which was not the case before.

If you check your phone and do not get the update, then you may want to wait until there is a wider roll-out by POCO.

The POCO F1 was released in 2018 and was one of the best phones released that year. It received much praise for its low-price combined with flagship specs.

Since Xiaomi took the wraps off the latest MIUI 11 in September this year, the Chinese tech giant has been testing several new features. The company has previously tested an app drawer and app shortcuts and new categories for the stock MIUI 11 launcher. There have also been tests for HEIC support for the MIUI Camera app. Just recently, the latest nightly MIUI 11 build was spotted with new advanced display calibration controls. Yet another new feature for MIUI 11 has been spotted and it is an equalizer for the Mi Music app on MIUI 11.

An MIUI user recently discovered code for an equalizer in the Mi Music app on the latest MIUI 11 nightly (v9.12.19). The equalizer was enabled manually by LineageOS contributor and XDA Senior Member abhishek987 who also shared screenshots of the feature.

As seen in the screenshots, the new equalizer can be found within the Earphones option inside advanced settings on the settings menu of the custom music app. On present versions of MIUI 11, the equalizer option is disabled and can’t be operated. However, the leak shows the option allows you to completely adjust the sound profile as per your preference.

Apart from the new equalizer, the update will also bring access to a new Volume adjustment feature that will let you adjust the earphone volume depending on your age group. There are three group options to choose from — Up to 30 years old, 30-60 years old, and More than 60 years old — along with a custom preset option that allows you to make your own volume adjustments.

Selecting an age group gives you access to even more granular adjustments for the left and right ear volume levels, along with options to test the original sound profile and the adjusted sound profile. On top of all that, the app also lets you select the type of earphone/headphone you’re using for more accurate sound profiles.

Since the equalizer function has been disabled for a long while, even on earlier MIUI versions, we expect this feature to become available soon. However, there is no indication as to when that would happen.

The Redmi K20 Pro was one of the first devices in the world to get updated to Android 10. The flagship killer got the update the same day Google announced the new version of Android was available for the Pixel smartphones. Three months later, it is the turn of the Redmi K20.

A new MIUI update is rolling out in China to the mid-range phone and the changelog says it brings Android 10. The update arrives as MIUI V11.0.2.0QFJCNXM and is 2.3GB in size.

The update should not bring visual changes since it is buried deep under MIUI. However, features such as smart reply and better control over location data should be available.

Just like the changelog for the Mi 8 MIUI 11 update based on Android 10, Xiaomi warns that some apps may be incompatible with Android 10. You can try to update your apps after the update, to see if the compatibility issues have been fixed.

The Redmi K20 was announced in May 2019. The phone has a 6.39-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display and a pop-up selfie camera, so there is no need for a notch or punch hole. It is powered by the Snapdragon 730 and comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It has 48MP + 13MP + 8MP triple rear cameras and a 20MP selfie camera. It also has a 4000mAh battery, NFC, and an audio jack.

Xiaomi‘s latest MIUI 11 has started hitting models ranging from flagship to mid-range and budget models. The new update brings onboard several new features including a completely redesigned interface, a new font, Always-On Display, and much more. Seems there are new features in the works for MIUI 11. A recent discovery by XDA Developers shows the Chinese tech giant is testing a new advanced display calibration feature on the custom ROM which will give users more control over how their device’s screen looks.

The new advanced display calibration controls were discovered in the latest MIUI 11 nightly build, within a hidden settings page. With the new controls, you get the option to choose the color gamut from four available options including Enhanced, Original, P3, and sRGB. There are also sliders which can be used to individually control the Red, Green, and Blue color levels in the RGB color space. The hue, saturation, and value in the HSV color space also get control sliders as well as the contrast and gamma controls.

If you make any adjustment to the settings, a live preview window will appear at the top and all the changes are automatically saved unless you click on the Discard changes or Restore defaults buttons at the bottom.

There is no word yet as to when Xiaomi plans to roll out the new display controls to a stable build of MIUI 11 or which devices will get this new feature.

Xiaomi has begun rolling out the latest MIUI feature, that being their new Xiao AI curriculum calendar. It’s designed for teachers, students and educators and essentially functions as a timetable and planner. You can list down your courses, classes and even your teacher’s information for any given day. It’s a surprisingly well designed implementation.

On top of these, the Xiao AI curriculum calendar will soon support the sharing function. With a simple press of a button, you can share a pre-planned timetable with entire groups, making things much simpler to plan. On top of that, everyone can import your shared timetable, and the information changes on it will automatically import with the original.

It will also sync with Xiaomi‘s standard MIUI calendar and Negative Screen. Further support and integration with other MIUI apps are coming in the future. In addition to Xiaomi phones, any Xiao Ai students, Xiao Ai teachers, Xiao Ai speakers and even non-Xiaomi phones will eventually get support for the app once it’s released publicly.

It’s essentially a student oriented calendar, where you can jot down notes for any given day. It’s a lot more robust and impressive than your standard calendar app. It has a solid lineup of features, and we’re excited to see how they turn out in day-to-day use. For now, it’s only rolling out in China, we can’t wait to see this feature come to the global devices.

Xiaomi has begun rolling out a stable MIUI 11 update to its 2018 flagship, the Mi 8, in China. The update not only brings a new user interface and new features to the phone but also brings Android 10.

The update arrives as MIUI V11.0.5.0.QEACNXM and is 2.1GB in size. Xiaomi advises that users back up their data before they install the update since it not only comes with a new version of MIUI but also upgrades the Android version. Users are also warned that certain apps may be incompatible with Android 10 and may not function properly. However, it is advised that you update your apps afterward as the latest version of the app may have fixed the incompatibility issue.

MIUI 11 brings a redesigned user interface, always-on-display with new customization and personalization options, breathing lights for notifications using the display, new notification sounds inspired by nature, and Mi Work and Mi Life to helo you improve productivity and balance work and personal life. There is also Mi Share for file sharing between compatible devices.

MIUI 11 also has a built-in document viewer called Mi Doc Viewer so you don’t have to download a document viewing app for your device. There is also wireless printing with support for more than 2000 printer models from HP, Lexmark, HP, Sharp, Epson, Toshiba, Kyocera, Lenovo, Mijia and NEC e.t.c. Xiaomi has also included a period tracker, an emergency SOS feature, and a step counter.

There is no news yet with respect to when the stable update will be available for the global version but it should not be far off. The phone launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and was updated to Android 9 Pie. It should still be eligible for future MIUI updates but this may be its last Android OS upgrade.

MIUI India has announced that the MIUI 11 Global Stable ROM is now available for the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. Owners of the two phones will have to download the ROM and manually install it.

The stable ROM has version number 11.0.4.0 for the Redmi 6A and version number 11.0.1.0 for the Redmi 6. It brings features such as Mi Share, Game Booster, Sounds of Nature, Task and a revamped and minimalist design. The size of the ROM for both phones is 1.3GB.

The update arrives a month behind schedule according to the rollout timetable released back in October. Both phones were scheduled to get the update in the first few weeks of November but it is actually arriving a month later.

The Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 were announced in June 2018. The Redmi 6A has a 5.45-inch HD+ display, an Helio A22 processor, 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage. There is a single 13MP camera on the back while a 5MP camera is in front for selfies. It has a 3000mAh battery and charges via a MicroUSB port.

The Redmi 6 has the same 5.45-inch HD+ display but swaps the Helio A22 for the Helio P22. It also comes with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage that can be expanded via a dedicated MicroSD card slot. Unlike the Redmi 6A, the Redmi 6 has a fingerprint scanner. It also has dual rear cameras (12MP + 5MP) but its selfie camera is the same. It also has a 3000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has pushed the latest MIUI 11 to a number of its models including the low-end Redmi 4. The Redmi Note 6 Pro has now joined the league of Xiaomi models running MIUI 11. The company has started pushing OTA updates to the Note 6 Pro which ushers in the MIUI 11 Global Stable ROM V11.0.1.0.PEKMIXM.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is the last smartphone Xiaomi launched last year before splitting the Redmi band into an independent brand. The phone runs on MIUI 9 but was later updated to MIUI 10 based on Android 9. Sadly, this new update is still based on Android 9 but has several features that debut with Android 10.

For those whose models run the Global Stable ROM, the OTA update must have hit their models already. You can also go to Settings – About phone and check for a new update. But if you’re using Custom Stable ROM or Global Developer ROM, then perform clean upgrade via Fastboot update. It is important you back up your data before flashing or even before updating the Global Stable ROM as some users have complained of their device unable to boot again after the OTA update.

MIUI 11 brought the dark mode to a lot of Xiaomi and Redmi devices in the market. However, some phones running MIUI didn’t get a system-wide dark mode, so there were a lot of third-party apps that didn’t support it. But that changes with the MIUI 12 as one of the company’s engineers has confirmed that the new version will support a global system-wide dark mode.

Apart from confirming this, he also commented on the recent rumor of OPPO poaching MIUI and FlymeOS engineers for its own ColorOS development. He said that MIUI engineers are working 13 hours a day which leaves them with no time for interviews. So it will be hard for OPPO to poach MIUI engineers.

He also answered the question of why MIUI 11’s AOD screen didn’t support custom GIF loop playback animations. In this regard, he said that custom GIF animations on AOD will bring power consumption issues, which is why MIUI’s AOD doesn’t support this feature.

Now that MIUI 11 stable is rolling to most Xiaomi and Redmi devices, the company has started working on the new features for MIUI 12. Back in October, the company’s executive, Xu Jieyun, General Manager of Public Relations confirmed that Xiaomi has already started working on the new MIUI 12 OS.

Back in September, we reported that Xiaomi was going to add ‘Earthquake Warning’ alerts in its upcoming MIUI 11 OS. Looks like the company is finally starting to make that happen. At this week’s developer’s conference held in Beijing, China, Xiaomi confirmed that it has started to roll out the ‘Earthquake warning’ feature to select users in Sichuan, China using MIUI OS. The company plans to roll it out on a wider scale throughout China soon.

Xiaomi says that smartphones running MIUI 11 and even Mi TVs could be notified “seconds to tens of seconds” before the earthquake hits the place. The idea is to give users a few seconds of a headstart in order to better protect themselves before the actual earthquake. Also, the alert could also provide information about the nearest emergency shelter, emergency contact details, medical contacts, and the rescue information to help in a critical situation.

Xiaomi’s Earthquake Warning alert was first trialed back in September and has been developed in partnership with the Chengdu based Institue of Care-life. As of now, it looks like the feature would be limited to China. But eventually, Xiaomi could tie-up with more organizations and alert its millions of smartphones running MIUI internationally as well.

It becomes nearly impossible for the user to see anything until the brightness is turned to the considerable level. However, the Xiaomi has found a new way to adjust the display backlight even if auto-brightness is turned off. Xiaomi has introduced a new “Sunlight Mode” display setting in MIUI 11 to ease the operation under direct sunlight.

Sunlight Mode will switch to the highest brightness level once it gets the direct sunlight. It is equivalent to the “high brightness mode” that is present or get triggered once the ambient light becomes sufficiently bright. According to our folks at XDA Developers, the new model gets triggered once the ambient lighting crosses 12000 lux for 5 seconds. It is reduced and set to the previous state when the lighting drops below 12000 lux for 2 seconds.

In MIUI 11 changelog, Sunlight Mode is said to “adjust the brightness to strong ambient light when automatic brightness is off”. It is quite useful for users who often get into the direct sunlight and hate using the auto-brightness mode. Xiaomi Sunlight Mode will use readings from the ambient light sensor to make it work.

It will come to all the Xiaomi devices running MIUI 11. It is quite a useful feature for users.

Additionally, MIUI 11 is based on Android 10 and feature various new enhancements and features. • Ultra Power Saving Mode: This mode is meant for prolonging battery life when running out of charge. According to the company, while in this mode, a device can provide a battery backup of upto 24 hours with just 5% of battery. When this mode is turned on, the device turns off the Wi-Fi module, hides non-essential apps, turns the display colour to black/white whilst restricting background processes.
• Kids Mode: It is meant for parents who want to create a safe digital environment for their kids. While in kids mode, the device will only be able to run applications that are whitelisted by their parent or guardian. Besides, it also has an education space which Xiaomi claims is an intuitive manner to teach young kids.
• Casting to external display: It allows smartphones running on MIUI 11 to wirelessly cast onscreen content which includes games, videos, documents and other applications to TV, given the TV also supports this functionality.
• Digital Wellbeing: Device owners will be able to check how much time they spend on each application and if needed they can cut down the usage time in order to maintain a healthy mental and physical well-being.
• Earthquake alerts: With the help of data provided by regional offices, devices running MIUI 11 can notify its owner in case of an ongoing earthquake or after one takes place. Moreover, it will also provide additional details like nearby relief centres and places to avail medical service in case of a mishap.
• Android 10: While it is not necessary for every device running MIUI 11 to run on the latest Android 10, as the same skin could even be built on older versions of Android like Oreo or Pie. However, devices launched recently will get MIUI 11 based on Android 10.

The screenshot shared by a Redmi 4 user shows that the new update comes with the version number MIUI 11.0.2.0.NAMMIXM. It also shows the update file is 483MB large. Interestingly, this new update doesn’t bring a change in the Android version as the Redmi 4 still runs the outdated Android 7.1.2 (Nougat). It also brings along the October 2018 Android security patch that Google released more than a year ago.
