Before the announcement, Xiaomi took the time to list off the achievements of the  ROM.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-142413" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-official.jpg?x44794" alt="MIUI 9" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-official.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-official-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>MIUI 9 has been in the making for about a year now and now it is finally official. A majority of the new features are system optimizations which should result in a smoother experience, though there are also some visual changes. Lets run through some of the key ones.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-142411" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch.jpg?x44794" alt="MIUI 9 App launch" width="1200" height="1200" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-App-launch-1024x1024.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<h4>System Optimization</h4>
<p>Xiaomi has worked hard on making MIUI 9 as smooth as possible when it comes to performance. MIUI will never be stock android but that doesn&#8217;t men it can&#8217;t be optimized to be equally fast and responsive even with its advanced customization features.</p>
<p>App launch has been improved by the addition of Dynamic Resource Allocation. What this does is use critical thinking to give your favorite apps priority when it comes to CPU allocation. This way your most used apps open up faster.</p>
<p>Haptic feedback has also been improved and there is an automatic cleaning process</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-142410" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-Smart-Assistant.jpg?x44794" alt="MIUI 9 Smart Assistant" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-Smart-Assistant.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-Smart-Assistant-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-Smart-Assistant-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-Smart-Assistant-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<h4>Smart Assistant</h4>
<p>MIUI 9 comes with a smart assistant that lets you search for almost anything within your device. If you are looking for that text from a particular day or picture from a particular event on your phone, the assistant is your best help at finding it fast. All you need is a bit of information such as the date, location, and even expression when it comes to images.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-142412" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-smart-app-launcher.jpg?x44794" alt="MIUI 9 smart app launcher" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-smart-app-launcher.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-smart-app-launcher-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-smart-app-launcher-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MIUI-9-smart-app-launcher-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<h4>Smart App Launcher</h4>
<p>This uses an algorithm to suggest apps based on what&#8217;s on your screen. So don&#8217;t be surprised if you get suggestions to bring up the maps app or ride booking app when you are talking about going out.</p>

<h4>Split-Screen Multitasking</h4>
<p>After what seemed like an endless wait, MIUI finally gets split-screen multitasking as a default feature. There is not much to say here as virtually everyone is familiar with the feature already.</p>
<p>MIUI 9 will be available as a closed beta for the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Redmi Note 4X tomorrow. Other devices will get it in coming weeks.</p>

<p>This detail was revealed on MIUI Forum in a group conversation by one of the forum administrators identified as Mushroom bread. You can find the screenshot of the conversation at the end of the post. The admin revealed that MIUI engineers have been working intensively for more than a month so that the MIUI 9 will be released on time. He went further to disclose that the first batch of the custom ROM will only support the Mi 6 and thereafter, other Xiaomi models. He didn&#8217;t disclose more than these details but we expect.</p>

<p>MIUI forum administrator didn&#8217;t disclose more than these details but we expect the MIUI 9 to be released at the end of this month or early next month. So, if you own the Xiaomi Mi 6, get ready for some exciting times because the MIUI 9 promises some amazing features. According to Xiaomi&#8217;s CEO, MIUI  9 will come with a better optimization for a smoother experience and enhanced battery life. Some other features include screen recorder, split screen, and Picture-in-Picture mode. The custom ROM is also expected to be lighter and simpler, according to Xiaomi.</p>

To that end, a Xiaomi official has hinted that the <strong>MIUI 9</strong> will be released before August 16 which is a little over a month from now.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-140030" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1.png?x44794" alt="miui 9" width="600" height="444" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1-300x222.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>There are indications that  the launch is imminent, apart from the fact that it is long due. One of such indication is the rate at which the MIUI 9 features have been coming out. A leaked screen shot said to be he MIUI 9 Interface&#8217;s lock screen&#8217;s new look appeared online and it was immediately confirmed by Xiaomi via the MIUI Weibo account that the interface is really for the MIUI 9.</p>
<p>Taking a closer look at the screen shot, the interface&#8217;s lock scren design will see a slight change from that of the MIUI 8. The screenshot shows the locked screen will have a few app shortcuts to MIJIA app, Universal Remote control app, Mi Pay, Mi Bus card, while at the bottom there is a quick launch button for the flashlight. The apps shortcut may likely be customizable and not necessarily be specifically for the apps shown.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-140031" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1-576x1024.jpg?x44794" alt="MIUI 9 Lock screen" width="576" height="1024" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/miui-9-1.jpg 690w" sizes="(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px" /></a></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>We expect more and more features leak as the launch draws closer. Already, Xiaomi has revealed the next-gen MIUI interface would come <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/04/miui-9-features-leak-split-screen-picture-picture/">with such features as split screen and picture-in-picture </a>with screenshots of the interface showing the features. There is also word that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/22/xiaomi-removes-sms-scheduling-miui-9-cites-low-number-sms-users-as-reason/">Xiaomi will be yanking off SMS scheduling on the upcoming interface</a> due to a low number of SMS users and also that there won’t be unnecessary apps stuck in your display as it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/12/22/users-will-able-delete-system-apps-miui-9/">allows users to delete systems apps</a>. More features would definitely be revealed to come on the interface that is tagged to be fluid and more powerful.</p>

Speculations were rife that the tech giant will announce the next-gen of its user interface on May 25 and that the Mi Max 2 will even debut running the new UI. But in a Weibo post via the official MIUI account, the company has played down talks of MIUI 9 coming as well on that day.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/miui-9-no-1.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132075" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/miui-9-no-1.png?x44794" alt="miui 9 launch" width="592" height="494" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/miui-9-no-1.png 592w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/miui-9-no-1-300x250.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/miui-9-no-1-95x80.png 95w" sizes="(max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px" /></a></p>
<p>Xiaomi only <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/11/07/xiaomi-kick-starts-miui-9-coming-soon/">kickstarted the upcoming version of its intuitive Mi user interface</a> (MIUI 9) around December last year and we are yet to get word that the MIUI 9 is now in beta testing stage, whether closed or open beta. So, it is very much unlikely that the UI will be launched this early. MIUI 9 may likely debut around August this year or there about, perhaps on Xiaomi&#8217;s upcoming Mi Mix 2 or Mi Note 3 flagship.</p>

<p>Xiaomi has maintained a watertight secrecy about the UI but we expect that wall of secrecy to crumble soon enough. However, from the little we know so far about the MIUI 9, the next-gen interface would <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/04/miui-9-features-leak-split-screen-picture-picture/">feature split screen and picture-in-picture </a>capabilities. The user interface will also come with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/11/09/smart-edge-gesture-support-miui-9-will-enhance-mi-note-2/">smart edge gesture support</a> and will give users te leverage to delete system apps that they don&#8217;t need on their device. There will always be more innovative features and it sure will be based on Android 7 Nougat.</p>

According to insider sources right from Xiaomi&#8217;s headquarters, the MIUI 9 ceremony was held signifying the launch of the project.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/miui-9-2/"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-106013" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9.jpg?x44794" alt="miui 9" width="600" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9-300x194.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The launch involved a big white board with the number 9 boldly printed on it in red and the text &#8221; Hello MIUI written in Chinese below, followed by a few words by those in-charge of the MIUI research. No mention was made to the release date, though.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/miui-9-2-2/"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-106014" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9-2.jpg?x44794" alt="miui 9" width="600" height="273" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/miui-9-2-300x137.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>What this news means is that Xiaomi has kick-started the process preceding the release of another operating system even when the MIUI 8 is yet to roll out on all Xiaomi smartphones. A lot of research and development goes into the process and we hope to see a beta version of the MIUI 9 sometime in the near future, perhaps early next year.</p>
