Ever since Xiaomi announced MIUI 12 and started rolling out beta builds, it has been adding new features every other week. Recently, a feature called “AI Shutter” was unearthed in the MIUI Camera app code. Now, developers once again find several other new modes in the same app, which make use of long exposure shots.

The strings for different long exposure shots in MIUI Camera app were spotted by XDA Senior Member kacskrz and Telegram user @Deiki. According to them, users can select different modes for long exposure shots such as “Moving crowd”, “Light painting”, “Starry sky”, “Silky water”, “Star trails”, and “Neon Trails”.

Since long exposure shots require the phone to be kept steady, the strings also mention using a tripod. That said, it is not sure which Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO smartphones will have support for these modes. As of now, they are live on POCO F2 Pro aka Redmi K30 Pro according to a Telegram user called @hardziol who also shared the screenshot attached above to XDA Developers.

The revamped MIUI Camera is the only MIUI 12 system app to get the most number of new features after its reveal. It added support for multiplicity photography known as “Magic Clone” (debuted on Mi 10 Youth Edition), gestures to access additional options, Google’s Top Shot like feature called “AI Shutter” (yet to go live), and the new long exposure shot modes.

MIUI is one of the most popular Chinese Android skins in the smartphone market. Xiaomi announced its latest iteration dubbed as MIUI 12 in April. Since then, the company has been rolling out beta, stable beta, and stable builds to the eligible devices. Amidst this, the brand has been also introducing new features in the beta builds like the newly spotted “AI Shutter” in the MIUI Camera app.

With the release of MIUI 12, Xiaomi overhauled the entire UI with new visuals and animations. The MIUI Camera app has bee also revamped with new icons, features, and gestures.

Now, as per a user @Deiki on Telegram (via XDA Developers), Xiaomi is working on a feature called “AI Shutter” for MIUI Camera app. The implementation is similar to Google’s Top Shot feature on Pixel smartphones.

The string mentioning this feature was spotted in the MIUI Camera app that came with the latest MIUI 12 beta build. According to it, the app will recommend the best shot from the series of pictures taken while tapping and holding the shutter button.

As of now, the “AI Shutter” feature is not live on any Xiaomi/Redmi smartphone. We expect the company to make it available to certain devices in the coming days in their respective weekly builds, followed by stable builds.

Xiaomi revamped MIUI Camera app with the launch of MIUI 12 last month. In fact, it is the first time the app has received a facelift in years. With every weekly beta release of MIUI 12, the MIUI Camera app has been receiving new features so far. The latest update adds gestures to access additional options and modes.

The MIUI Camera app has a ton of options and modes that cannot be displayed on a single screen. Only last week, the head of Xiaomi Camera revealed the redesigned icons for them. Now, today, she announced two different gestures to access them easily as they are hidden in the main screen due to space constraint.

The first gesture allows users to access additional options and modes by swiping left from right. This is similar to what we find on Google Camera app. The second gesture, on the other hand, lets users swipe from bottom to top to access them.

If you ask me, the swiping from bottom feels natural and easy since smartphones released by Xioami or any other company for that matter are now huge and are hard to reach both sides and top.

That said, these gestures are already live on most Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones, which are currently running MUI 12 Beta.

Last week, after the announcement of MIUI 12, the head of Xiaomi Camera also dropped a teaser video for new revamped MIUI Camera. She even shared the update timeline for all the eligible devices. Anyway, it’s worth noting that the list is limited to China. Now, almost a week later, she shared a poster on Weibo showcasing all the redesigned icons of the new MIUI Camera app.

As you can see from the image above, the icons are uniform as well as simple and elegant. They clearly match the other UI elements of MIUI 12. Although the icons in the poster are outlines, the new MIUI Camera app also supports customization allowing users to change colors of these icons.

Nevertheless, the image does not reveal any feature that we are not aware of. Here’s a refresher of all the new additions if you have forgotten or never knew before.

Redmi K30i, a cheaper lite variant of the Redmi K30 5G  has been rumoured for a while now. The phone was recently spotted on TENAA confirming most of its specifications. Now, a finding from MIUI Camera further affirms the existence of this handset.

Earlier this month, an internal document leak revealed Xiaomi’s plan to launch more affordable 5G phones than the Redmi K30 5G. The first device mentioned in it was the Redmi K30i 5G with a 48MP primary camera instead of 64MP from the standard variant. This handset was suggested to release in late April with 1799 Yuan ($255) price tag.

The device has been now spotted in MIUI Camera app by an XDA Developers’ member going by the name of kacskrz. A string from the app not only confirms the name of the phone but also its 48MP primary camera.

As you can see from the string, the device is codenamed ‘Picasso’ just like the regular Redmi K30 5G announced back in December 2019. This finding once again confirms the new Redmi K30i to feature identical specs and design except for a different primary camera sensor.

Anyway, the Redmi brand is yet to tease the launch of this upcoming handset and it is already May now. Since it’s just the same phone with a minor change, the company might simply announce it on Weibo anytime soon.

Yesterday, Xiaomi officially introduced MIUI 12, the new version of the company’s mobile operating system. After the launch event, the brand also shared the update schedule/timeline for all the eligible devices. It was later followed by ‘Survey for MIUI 13 Feature Design’ confirming the next iteration of software to be already in works. Now, earlier today, the product head of Xiaomi Camera shared a teaser video of a new improved MIUI Camera app on Weibo. The executive even revealed the list of devices that will be getting it.

Customization in the MIUI Camera app was already teased by @Queena_Xiaomi, the product head of Xiaomi Camera earlier last week. Now, as MIUI 12 is official, she dropped a new teaser video for the redesigned app revealing all new changes.
