<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-301818 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="1300" height="648" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo.jpg 1300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-768x383.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-1024x510.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-696x347.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-1068x532.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Apple-logo-843x420.jpg 843w" sizes="(max-width: 1300px) 100vw, 1300px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/5527ddd1-77a8-4cd0-82fd-4568be5da80f" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>FinancialTimes</em> </a>report, the Cupertino based giant will be opening up new advertising slots by the end of this month. The news arrives from two sources close to the matter who believe that the company will be adding a second advertising slow in the &#8220;suggested&#8221; apps section in its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/app-store/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">App Store</a> search page. This new slot will arrive later this month and will also allow advertisers to promote their apps across the the network, rather than in certain specific searches.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Apple has declined to comment on this matter. But this news highlights the fact that the iPhone maker is seeking to bolster its own advertising business while simultaneously crippling the 350 billion US Dollar worth digital ads industry that is led by tech giants like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/facebook/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Facebook</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a>. For those unaware, the upcoming iOS 14.5 will ban applications and advertisers from collecting data from iPhone users without their explicit consent. Thus, most users are expected to decline to being tracked, which could have a severe impact on the mobile advertising industry.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-343091 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ios-14-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="640" height="378" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ios-14-1.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ios-14-1-300x177.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></p>
<p>While Apple claims that this change will improve user privacy for its customers, many believe that this is just an attempt to boost its own advertising business. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg added that &#8220;Apple may say they’re doing this to help people, but the moves clearly track with their competitive interests.&#8221; So stay tuned for more updates, as we will be covering any interesting new developments regarding this matter.</p>

<p>According to a trademark application submitted to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) on October 1, 2019, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> has applied for a trademark &#8216;Samsung Mobile Ads&#8217; that applies to smartphones and tablets and pertains to advertising services. From the application, it&#8217;s clear that Samsung is looking to try out its luck in mobile advertising.</p>
<p>The South Korean smartphone maker isn&#8217;t really new to advertising. The company currently has the Samsung Ads program for its smart TVs. While there&#8217;s an option to disable these Smart TV ads, it&#8217;s hidden well inside the TV&#8217;s &#8216;terms and conditions&#8217; menu. In short, Samsung has ensured that it won&#8217;t be easy to find this option and disable it. It would be really annoying if Samsung tries to reproduce this strategy for its mobile ads as well.</p>
<h3>Change in Samsung&#8217;s Mobile Strategy?</h3>
<p>With the ever-increasing competition from the Chinese giants, Samsung&#8217;s strategy has changed over the past few months. The company is churning out at least <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/18/samsung-galaxy-m30s-india-launch/">one mid-range device in Asia</a> and Europe. Even the recently launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/13/samsung-galaxy-m30s-tipped-to-also-launch-in-europe-after-india/">Galaxy M30s is likely to land in Europe</a> very soon. With so many devices in the market, Samsung could be contemplating the idea of mobile ads on its devices.</p>
<figure id="attachment_273617" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-273617" style="width: 1500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-273617" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b.png?x10805" alt="Galaxy M30s" width="1500" height="755" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b.png 1500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-300x151.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-768x387.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-1024x515.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-696x350.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-1068x538.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Galaxy-M30s-b-834x420.png 834w" sizes="(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-273617" class="wp-caption-text">Samsung launched the Galaxy M30S with 6000mAh battery in India recently</figcaption></figure>
<p>However, note that this was just a trademark application and Samsung has in no way confirmed that it will start showing ads on its smartphones. So we&#8217;ll have to wait for more information from the company.</p>
