<p>A recent World Health Organization (WHO)-led investigation has once again debunked the longstanding fear that prolonged <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mobile-phone/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mobile phone</a> use could increase the risk of brain cancer.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="574" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-1024x574.jpg?x10805" alt="5G" class="wp-image-648772" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-1024x574.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-768x431.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-696x390.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-1068x599.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G-749x420.jpg 749w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/5G.jpg 1230w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>No Evidence of Brain Cancer Risk from Mobile Phones</h2>

<p>The study, which analyzed data from 63 studies conducted between 1994 and 2022, found no conclusive evidence to support a causal relationship between radiofrequency (RF) radiation emitted by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mobile-phones/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mobile phones</a> and brain cancer.</p>

<p>Researchers examined a wide range of cancer types, including brain cancer, pituitary gland cancer, salivary gland cancer, and leukemia, as well as risks associated with mobile phone use, base stations, and occupational exposure.</p>

<p>Despite the significant increase in mobile phone usage over the past few decades, the incidence of brain cancer has remained relatively stable. This suggests that the fears surrounding mobile phone radiation may be unfounded. The study&#8217;s findings are in line with previous research conducted by WHO and other international health organizations.</p>

<p>While the latest investigation offers reassuring news for mobile phone users, it&#8217;s important to note that WHO and other health agencies continue to call for more research to definitively rule out any potential health risks associated with RF radiation.</p>

<p>The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) still classifies mobile phone radiation as &#8220;possibly carcinogenic&#8221; (Group 2B), indicating that a potential link cannot be ruled out.</p>

<p>As technology continues to evolve and wireless devices become increasingly ubiquitous, it&#8217;s crucial to stay informed about the latest scientific findings. The WHO study provides valuable insights into the safety of mobile phone use and offers reassurance to millions of people who rely on these devices for communication and daily activities.</p>

We may soon be seeing a new form of energy generation from waste as scientists in the United Kingdom have unveiled a new clean energy fuel cell that is capable of converting human waste into electricity.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/iQOO-5-series-phone-with-120W-charging-support.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-335284" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/iQOO-5-series-phone-with-120W-charging-support.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="782" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/iQOO-5-series-phone-with-120W-charging-support.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/iQOO-5-series-phone-with-120W-charging-support-230x300.jpg 230w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/iQOO-5-series-phone-with-120W-charging-support-322x420.jpg 322w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The new solution is developed by a team of researchers at Bristol BioEnergy Centre. The project is known as &#8220;pee power&#8221; and was first demonstrated by the firm at the Glastonbury festival about two years back. The firm is hoping to make advancements on the project that will make it possible for a deployment to power entire households someday.</p>
<p>At the Glastonbury festival in 2019, the scientists were able to prove that urine can produce a steady supply of electricity of low wattage. The energy produced can then be used to power lightbulbs, mobile phones, and robots. Bristol BioEnergy Centre&#8217;s director Dr Ioannis Ieropoulos explained that the solution was able to generate 300 watt-hours of electricity during the five-day festival which would have been able to power a single one-watt lightbulb for 300 hours, or 10 lightbulbs for 30 hours.</p>
<p>The new power generation solution deplys what the company calls microbial fuel cells. this includes several blocks that look like batteries but are filled with a colony of microbes. The microbes feed on organic matter which are then broken down into chemical energy and in turn generate electricity and clean wastewater.</p>
<p>One challenge the team faces presently is how to reduce the size of the fuel cells such that they can be put inside bricks and integrated with the walls of homes. We&#8217;ll definitely be hearing more about this simple but innovative technology going forward.</p>

In the face of this situation, India&#8217;s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has hiked the Goods and Services Tax payable on mobile phones from 12 percent to 18 percent. The new development was announced by the GST Council during a meeting in New Delhi today. This would likely result in a rise in the prices of smartphones in the world&#8217;s third-largest <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/smartphones">smartphone</a> market.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/xiaomi-india.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-184158" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/xiaomi-india.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="728" height="455" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/xiaomi-india.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/xiaomi-india-300x188.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></a></p>
<p>The council reportedly skipped the proposal to also increase the rates on fertilizers and footwear citing the slumping economy and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tax increase on mobile phones is said to have been necessitated by the fact that the mobile phone industry is one of the sectors that had less impact from the prevailing economic slowdown in the Asian nation.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/17/xiaomi-aqara-smart-home-products-amazon-us-pricing-availability">Xiaomi’s Aqara officially unveils its range of smart home products in the US</a></strong></h6>
<p>India&#8217;s Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) had earlier appealed against increasing the tax on mobile phones. The industry body had argued that the increase in GST would be detrimental for consumer sentiment and would have an effect on the local manufacturing of smartphones. Even the country&#8217;s mobile retailers association had also appealed against increasing tax which they say would impact on their already low margin.</p>
<p>The Indian market was among a few markets that experienced slight growth in the face of a global decline in growth. This could be attributed to modest pricing as a result of the government&#8217;s &#8220;Make in India&#8221; initiative. The increased tax could negatively impact on this gain as it could affect domestic patronage.</p>
<p>IDC India&#8217;s Navkendar Singh, Research Director, Client Devices &amp; IPDS believed the decision will affect getting more persons coming in the smartphone fold. ”Despite being the fastest-growing smartphone market in the world, India still has a long way to go with an estimated penetration of around 400 million people out of 1.6 billion having access to smartphones in the country.“Considering the current supply and projected demand scenario in the next couple of quarters, brands are not in any position to absorb this hike. They will be forced to pass it onto the consumer, which will further increase the replacement cycle (which has been a major engine of growth in the market for the past couple of years),” says Singh.</p>

We had reported on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/09/master-lu-q1-2019-best-performing-smartphones-xiaomis-black-shark-2-steals-the-show/">ranking of smartphones based on their performance</a>, taking into considerations key parameters like RAM size, chipset type, storage size, processor speed etc. Xiaomi&#8217;s Black Shark2 gaming phone stole the show in that ranking. Master LU also published a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/10/master-lu-q1-2019-mobile-chipset-ranking/">ranking of smartphone processors</a> with Qualcomm&#8217;s flagship Snapdragon 855 emerging as the overall best chipset around. <img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-246882" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-23.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="545" height="364" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-23.jpg 545w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-23-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 545px) 100vw, 545px" /></p>
<p>Master LU has now released a ranking of smartphones based on their running temperatures with such details as high and low temperatures, as well as daily high and low temperatures. The ranking covers phones that run through the app between January 1 and March 31. The temperature values come from the average temperature recorded by mobile phones that have run through the Master Lu Android APP. The data excludes models with sample quantity below 1000. It is also screened for abnormal data and robots.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-246880" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10.jpg?x10805" alt="Master Lu" width="600" height="193" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-300x97.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>The phone with the highest load temperature is OPPO Find X which can reach 38.35 °C on average, followed by Nokia X7 2018, Smartisan Nut Pro 2 Special Edition, Sony Xperia XZ2, Black Shark Helo Game Phone, all of which are flagships or high-end models. The Nokia 6 also reached 35.77 ° C.</p>
<p>Among the top ten phones with &#8220;high&#8221; running temperatures, there are three Nokia models; Nokia X7 2018, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6, which is the highest from any OEM. However, we must point out that the temperatures are not too high, as they are below 40%.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-246881" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="210" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/master-lu-top-10-2-300x105.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>

Some may not appreciate the revolutionary changes that the industry has seen over the years except they have been actively involved in the process or have the opportunity to see vestiges which embody the changes that have taken place.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-122686 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Museum of Old Mobile phones" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-2-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a>The <a href="http://www.mobilephonemuseum.org/">Dobsina Museum of Old Mobile phones</a> located in the town of Dobsina in Slovakia is the perfect place to get to understand the monumental changes that have taken place in the industry over the years. The museum houses a large cache of old mobile phones, including models which had ruled the airwaves in the past, long before the advent of smartphones.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-9.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-122693 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-9.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-9.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-9-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-9-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The museum&#8217;s collection is made up of a total of 3,500 mobile phones, which are from 1,231 different models. They models cut across 14 different brands from Alcatel, Sagem, Siemens, ZTE, Ericsson, Samsung, Trium, Nokia, Panasonic, Motorola, Mitsubishi, Bosh, Sony-Ericsson right to Philips. These brands were all popular ack in the days but today a good number of them have closed shop or have been sold to bigger brands. Only brands like Samsung, ZTE, still exists as solid brands but the others have not been so lucky. Nokia has exchanged hands severally, Motorola was recently bought by Lenovo, Alcatel is now owned by TLC. The story goes on and on.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-8.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-122692 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-8.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-8.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-8-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-8-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Presently smartphones hold sway and the advent of smartphones may be responsible for the demise of some of the brands. In a way, the museum shows the role played by Chinese brands in the entire process. If you take note, only ZTE and Alcatel are the Chinese brands which are among the collector&#8217;s items but presently, Chinese brands occupy strategic positions in the top 10 smartphone brands globally. Perhaps the model which would elicit nostalgia is the Nokia line up comprising models like the legendary <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-3310-2017/">Nokia 3310</a>, Nokia E-series, N-series and other range of business phones which held sway before the death of the brand.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-7.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-122691 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-7.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-7.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-7-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Make no mistake, the museum isn&#8217;t state-owned but the brainchild of 26-year-old Stefan Polgari who spent the last 2 years collecting a large number of the phones. Stefan bought someone’s collection of 1,000 old phones for a few thousands of euros 2 years ago and has been hunting for missing models to add to his already impressive collection ever since until he was able to amass 3,500 “ancient” mobile phones, about half of which still work.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/mobile-phone-museum-5/"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-122689" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-5.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-5.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-5-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mobile-phone-museum-5-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
