Framework, the company renowned for its modular laptops, continues to expand its product range. Most recently, they introduced the 16-inch modular gaming model called the Framework Laptop 16. Now, the company is presenting another significant update. Framework is finally introducing AMD mainboards for its 13-inch laptop. This means if you already own a Framework 13 laptop, you can upgrade to an AMD. Here are the details…

Ryzen comes to Framework 13-inch laptops with AMD Mainboards

Technology is advancing at a rapid pace. As a result, we’re constantly introduced to new products like computers, phones, and headphones. Moreover, many of us buy these even when we don’t need them. For example, even though I use a MacBook with an M1 chip, I want to buy the M2 MacBook Air, despite not really needing it.

Unfortunately, such purchases can contribute to electronic waste if our existing devices aren’t resold or recycled. Framework, however, is aiming to address this problem by developing modular products, allowing you to enhance the performance of your existing computer. In line with this, the company recently introduced AMD mainboards for their 13-inch laptops.

If you already have a Framework 13 laptop, you can finally upgrade to an AMD mainboard. However, it’s important to note that you will need to purchase new RAM and a new WiFi module. The Framework’s new AMD mainboards come in three configurations:

Base: Ryzen 5 7640U with Radeon 760M iGPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
Performance: Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 7840U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
Ultra: Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 7840U, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD

The only difference between the base and performance models is the CPU and RAM. The ultra model has the same CPU and RAM as the performance model, but it also has a larger SSD. The AMD mainboards offer a number of advantages over the Intel mainboards. First, they offer better performance, especially in multi-thread. Second, they have better integrated graphics, which means that you can play some games without having to rely on a dedicated GPU.

However, there are also a few disadvantages to the AMD mainboards. First, they are more expensive than the Intel mainboards. Second, the front two USB-C ports do not support Thunderbolt 4. Therefore, if you’re a user of a 13-inch Framework laptop and are considering switching to AMD, you need to think carefully and decide which option is right for you.

Price & Availability

The Framework 13 laptop with an AMD mainboard is available to order now on the Framework website. The base model starts at $1,049, the performance model starts at $1,469, and the ultra model starts at $1,669. The first seven production batches of the Framework 13 laptop with an AMD mainboard are already sold out, but Framework says that it is working to produce more units. The company expects to ship the first orders in late October. Unfortunately, judging by the price, we can say that protecting the environment and using a modular laptop is not cheap at all for 2023.

Sony to launch new modular displays, similar to ones used in The Mandalorian

Sony has just announced that it will soon start selling its new series of modular displays. These displays can be used to create digital movie sets, which is similar to the technology that was also used to create the popular Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

According to an official announcement from Sony (Via TheVerge), the company is going to start selling its Mandalorian like virtual set displays. The technology resembles the digital sets that were used to create The Mandalorian by Industrial Light & Magic and Epic Games. These displays are a part of the company’s Crystal LED line, which arrive in the form of modular panels that use MicroLEDs. To put it simply, the modularity enables these displays to be stacked together to make a single giant display, using only a bunch of panels and a controller. This helps in making virtual sets out of displays alone.

Earlier this week, Sony announced new modular displays that are a part of its latest B series. The new panels are being marketed for movie production and feature anti reflective coating and are quite bright as well. These displays can top out and operate at around 1,800 nits, which is even higher than the Apple Pro Display XDR’s 1,600 nits. This high brightness also adds another benefit to film studios, as it can offer the set more realism as the brightness helps in creating lighting that makes it seem like the actors are actually in the scene that is in the background.

As per claims from Sony, the new displays are capable of high frame rates and 3D as well. This offers a higher degree of flexibility as well. The company aims on launching the new modular displays by “the summer.” Although, it has yet to announce an official price tag for it. However, considering these are professional grade products, we can assume an average consumer might probably not even considering buying these due to exorbitant prices.

Everest, a Modular keyboard with colored display keys and more: Kickstarter

Kickstarter is a known platform where inspiring inventors and more gather to share their ideas and dreams. Doogee S95 Pro rugged phone with modules support leaked!

Doogee has been in the smartphone industry for several years and has always released decent devices at even more decent prices. Phones like the bezeless Doogee MIX 4, the budget-friendly Doogee X10 or the BL12000 huge battery phone were well-received by users all around the world. A few months back, the company released the modular phone Doogee S90 that came with useful modules like the night vision camera, 5000mAh powerbank, digital walkie-talkie, and professional gamepad and now they are ready to release its successor, the Doogee S95 Pro.

According to the leaked information, it is going to be a powerhouse as it is expected to come with Helio P90 backed by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage. Also, it will be fully-rugged with protection against water, dust, and drops while it will sport a triple camera on the back with a 48MP main camera, a wide-angle camera, and a depth camera.

Besides the main specs, it will supposedly come with a 6W module with dual 27mm speakers and an extra battery integrated so that it will not deplete your phone’s battery. The new HiFi speaker module will be made of soft material and will feature an ergonomic design for comfortable grip.

Also, the 24W turbo quick charging takes care of fast charging and the extra 3500mAh power module offers another 80% power with 10W turbo quick charge technology.

When talking about a flagship device in any given price category, what someone should expect is good performance. For that reason, the Doogee S95 Pro will come with Helio P90 that sports a pair of powerful Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs and six Cortex-A55 in a single octa-core cluster. Altogether with the performance leading APU2.0, a powerful IMG PowerVR GM 9446GPU and fast LPDDR4X memory controller, you get 50% faster performance than the previous P60/70 SoCs.

Finally, the camera. S95 Pro is going to host Sony’s 48MP sensor for its triple rear camera. The IMX586 sensor ranks at the top of DxOmark list both in video and photo shooting. The top sensor from Sony not only features a high pixel count but also is large at 1/2″ with 1.6μm pixel (via pixel binning).

The release date is yet to be confirmed but it shouldn’t be too far away since all the specs are finalized and it should debut this month as one of the leaked posters reveal.

The Doogee S90 is the last rugged phone that the company had released and today, the Chinese manufacturer is ready to release its successor, the all-new Doogee S90 Pro. As an upgraded version, the new model comes with increased performance, better modularity, better battery life, and Android 9 Pie. The S90 Pro is expected to hit the market on July 15th on Doogeemall.

Starting with the design, the DOOGEE S90 Pro continues the innovative modular tri-proof design inherited from S90. Thanks to the 35% better efficiency of the new SoC, the battery life of the phone has been improved to 2 days/48 hours (average usage).

Rest of specs

The phone comes with a large 6.18″ U-notch in-cell display with FHD+ resolution that is protected with Gorilla Glass 4. The notch hosts a 16MP Sony wide-angle camera with f/2.0 aperture and A.I. Beauty Camera support. At the same time, the rear camera consists of two Samsung sensors with 16MP/8MP configuration and f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and Quad-Tone LED flash. There’s also NFC with Google Pay support, Face and fast Fingerprint support, and the already known from the previous model Survival Toolkit for physical measurements. Lastly, the Android 9 Pie in conjunction with Helio P70 and 6GB/128GB memory combo, not only takes care of fluid and smooth performance but also sports the most recent Google security patches and new features.
