Recent reports suggest that the Lenovo-owned company is now prepping up to debut the successor Moto C2 smartphone. Last month, a Motorola phone with XT1920 model number was approved by Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). It is speculated that this phone would be arriving in the market as Moto2. A regional variant of the same phone that has a model number of XT1920-19 has been approved by Brazil based National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL). Now that EEC and ANATEL bodies have certified Moto C2, it seems that its launch may not be far away.

The ANATEL certification has revealed only few specs of the XT1920-19 Motorola phone. The handset supports dual-SIM capabilities and 4G LTE connectivity. Through the EEC certification it has been revealed that the handset will be featuring 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of native storage. These specs suggest that it may arrive as an Android Go phone.

The Moto C2’s EEC certification had also revealed that it measures 147.88 x 71.22mm and it will be housing a 2,000mAh or 2,1000mAh battery. This indicates that the handset could be equipped with a 5-inch or 5.2-inch display.

Motorola has recently launched the Moto E5 Play as its first Android Go smartphone in the European and Latin American markets. The handset features 5.3-inch 18:9 display, 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The other specs of the Moto E5 Play Android Go edition are not known yet.

Is Motorola planning to launch another Android Go phone in quick succession? It is advisable to wait for further reports to confirm it. There is no confirmation on the launch date. However, there is a possibility that the Moto C2 could be unveiled alongside Motorola One Power Android One smartphone through its forthcoming Aug. 2 launch event. In related news, Motorola One Power, Moto Z3 Play and Moto E5 Plus have received TENAA certifications which indicates that these phones will be unveiling soon in China.

Turns out nothing is set in stone. Lenovo silently released the Moto C and Moto C Plus today, and both phones truly cover the essentials.

Moto C and Moto C Plus Design

Just as leaks have shown, Motorola (Lenovo) is going with more or less the same design for all its phones this year. The Moto C and Moto C Plus feature a polycarbonate micro-textured back. The design for the camera housing on the rear is the same as that of the Moto Z but the camera setup is different. You have two small circles sitting inside the larger circle, one holds the sensor and the other holds the LED flash.

Below the camera setup is the Moto batwing logo and further down is a line of circles which we believe serves as a cut-out for the speaker. The power button and volume rocker are on the left and there is an audio jack at the top, an essential for a budget device. Surprisingly, the charging port is also at the top but on the far left of the audio jack (positions are switched on the C Plus).

The front of the phone is no different from what we have seen on other budget phones. There are capacitive buttons at the bottom which do not seem to be back-lit and at the top sits the front camera, earpiece, and selfie light.

Moto C and Moto C Plus Specs

The Moto C has a 5-inch display, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of storage. It is powered by an unspecified quad-core processor. There is a 5MP camera with flash on the rear and a 2MP sensor up front with a selfie light. Motorola says the 2350mAh battery should be sufficient for use.

The Moto C is available in two models: there is a 3G only model and there is also a 4G version.

The Moto C Plus is mentioned as sporting a “larger display”. The RAM is still 1GB but the storage is doubled to 16GB. It also has dual SIM slots and a MicroSD card slot. The rear camera is an 8MP shooter with flash that Motorola says performs well under low-light conditions. The front camera is still a 2MP sensor with a dedicated selfie light.

The Moto C Plus packs a 4000mAh battery expected to last up to 30 hours on a single charge.

Moto C and Moto C Plus Pricing and Availability

Both phones will be available this Spring in Latin America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. The Moto C and Moto C Plus will come in Metallic Cherry, Pearl White, Fine Gold, and Starry Black.

The 3G Moto C will sell for €89 (~$98) and the 4G variant will be priced at €99 (~$109). The Moto C Plus will be priced at €119 (~$131).

Today, he has tweeted a leaked image that seems to be shot at the same presentation. The new image shows the entire line of next generation Moto devices.

Before getting acquired by Lenovo, Motorola had released three series of Moto devices since couple of years. The Moto X line constituted of flagship phones and the Moto G series were midrange phones. The Moto E budget-friendly phones came with modest specs.

After getting acquired by Lenovo, the Chinese firm released the new Moto Z series with support for modular accessories in the previous year and there were no Moto X smartphones in 2016. It made the smartphone enthusiasts feel that the Moto Z line was introduced to replace the Moto X series. In 2016, Lenovo had also released Moto G4 and Moto E3 series phones. However, rumors started swirling in the last quarter of 2016 that Lenovo may launch the Moto X this year.= with midrange specs.

The following leaked shot shows the entire list of next-generation Moto series smartphones that are going to launch in future.

The duo is expected to be budget smartphones and that was shown very clearly when their specs leaked recently. Even though the leaked specs reveal the devices are budget phones, they are likely coming with premium designs and good looking one at that.

We could tell the Moto C and Moto C Plus would be a beautiful pair from the leaked renders of both smartphones that just surfaced online. The renders appeared in a pair of leaked videos which detailed the Moto C & C Plus in 360-degrees, from all angles. This isn’t the first time the images of the Moto C are appearing online but this seems to offer a better view of the upcoming phones.

The renders show the Moto C and C Plus looking almost alike but with some noticeable differences. One of the striking difference is that while the Moto C has no camera bump, the Moto C Plus camera is slightly protruded from the back. Of course, both smartphones are expected to differ in sizes also.

The CAD renders are fairly high resolution so you can see design details of the device like the large rear camera modules and the textured pattern on the power button, at least on the Moto C. You’ll see this type of texture used on plenty of other devices as it helps to distinguish the power button from the volume rocker.

The Moto E is the low-end line from Motorola with very budget specs and intended for emerging markets. 2016 saw us getting two models of the phone: the Moto E3 and Moto E3 Power. Both devices were released in September and less than 6 months later, it seems we might be getting a new model.

A tweet by leakster Roland Quandt (@rquandt) mentions details of a Motorola phone seen on the FCC’s website. The phone’s model number is listed as Moto XT1750 and is codenamed “Watson”. It has 8GB of internal memory, dual SIM support, and a 2350mAh battery.

The internal memory hints at it being a Moto E since that’s like the signature storage of the series (save for the E3 Power). The battery capacity is what’s confusing though. Last year’s model has a 2800mAh battery but comes with a 5-inch 720p screen. Both features are upgrades from the 2015 model which has a 4.5-inch (540 x 960) display and a 2390mAh battery. There is no mention of the screen size of this new device, but it will be unwise to bundle it with a smaller battery if they are retaining the 5-inch display.

Yes, the Moto E3 and E3 Power are barely six months old but that is because they were released later than usual. The 2nd Gen model was released in February 2015, so this might get a launch soon as well, probably at MWC alongside the Moto G5. Who knows?

What do you think? Is this a new Moto E phone or will you go with Roland and give it a new name like the “Moto C”?
