Budget phones have come a long way in recent years. Take the Galaxy A16 5G, for example — it promises a whopping six years of OS updates, something unimaginable for a $200 phone not long ago. Meanwhile, the similarly priced Moto G Power 5G (2025) surprises with support for wireless charging. Yup, you read that right.

These two phones are among the most popular budget devices right now. But which one gives you the best bang for your buck in 2025? Let’s break it down.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G vs Motorola Moto G Power 5G (2025): Detailed comparison

Design and Durability

The Galaxy A16 5G sports a clean, minimalist look with a flat display and a waterdrop-style selfie camera. Its bezels are fairly slim, except for the chin, which feels a bit outdated. Around the back, you’ll find a plastic finish with three vertically stacked cameras.

In contrast, the Moto G Power 5G (2025) goes for a more modern design with uniform slim bezels and a punch-hole selfie camera — a premium feature at this price point. Its camera bump looks sleek, housing two sensors and an LED flash, and the rear features a leather-like finish that adds grip, resists fingerprints, and stands out among cheaper models.

When it comes to durability, the Motorola phone is in a different league. It’s IP68/IP69 rated and even has MIL-STD-810H military-grade protection, making it far more rugged. The A16 5G is only IP54-rated and lacks Gorilla Glass, while the Moto G Power features Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.

Display

The Galaxy A16 5G features a 1080p Super AMOLED display with vivid colors and up to 800 nits of brightness — not bad at all for a budget device.

Galaxy A16 5G

On the other hand, the Moto G Power still uses an LCD panel, which feels outdated in 2025. It lacks the rich contrast of AMOLED and has less punchy colors. While it gets slightly brighter at 1000 nits, its minimum brightness of 2.5 nits may still feel harsh in dark environments like nighttime use in bed.

The Moto’s display is marginally larger and offers a higher refresh rate for smoother scrolling. It’s also protected by Gorilla Glass 5, which the Galaxy A16 5G lacks.

Camera

The Galaxy A16 5G includes three rear cameras: a 50MP main sensor, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. That macro camera is pretty useless, effectively leaving you with two rear cameras.

The main sensor captures solid photos in daylight, offering good detail and dynamic range. However, the ultrawide camera delivers soft, less-detailed images with poor dynamic range. The 13MP front camera is fine — skin tones are natural, but overall it’s not particularly impressive. In low light, the camera maintains color and detail, though noise creeps in.

The Moto G Power 5G (2025) doesn’t wow with its camera. It takes decent shots in good light but struggles in low-light settings. However, thanks to OIS (which Samsung lacks), video stabilization is better. The phone also supports up to 6x digital zoom, and the quality is usable.

Notably, the Moto doesn’t let you switch between the main and ultrawide lenses mid-shoot. The Galaxy A16 does. Also, Samsung’s phone supports 4K video, while the Motorola is capped at 1080p.

In short, the Galaxy A16 5G has better cameras that produce more detailed shots with good colors and dynamic range. The Motorola phone has pretty average cameras.

Performance

Both phones offer smooth everyday performance, but the Motorola device has a slight edge in gaming and graphics tasks.

AnTuTu comparison

Galaxy A16 5G

Moto G Power 5G (2025)

AnTuTu score

435,926

447,351

CPU

152,349

143,232

GPU

62,976

69,041

Memory

98,149

111,693

UX

122,451

123,385

In AnTuTu benchmark tests, the Moto G Power 5G (2025) slightly edges out the Galaxy A16 5G, scoring 447,351 compared to 435,926. While the Galaxy A16 5G has a better CPU score, the Moto G Power pulls ahead in GPU, memory, and UX categories. The GPU score is notably higher on the Moto, suggesting it may perform a bit better in graphics-heavy tasks like gaming. However, the overall performance gap is minor. So, don’t expect a significant performance difference between these devices.

Geekbench comparison

Galaxy A16 5G

Moto G Power 5G (2025)

Single core

968

782

Multi core

2,031

2,056

In Geekbench tests, the Galaxy A16 5G scores higher in single-core performance with 968 points, compared to 782 on the Moto G Stylus 5G (2025). This means the A16 5G may feel slightly snappier in day-to-day tasks. However, the Moto G Stylus pulls slightly ahead in multi-core performance with a score of 2,056 versus 2,031, making it a bit more efficient in multitasking or running heavier apps.

3DMark WildLife Extreme Stress Test comparison

Galaxy A16 5G

Moto G Power 5G (2025)

High score

366

386

Low score

359

381

In the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, both the Galaxy A16 5G and Moto G Stylus 5G (2025) show consistent GPU performance, indicating good thermal management and stability during extended workloads. However, the Moto G Stylus 5G pulls slightly ahead, suggesting it may handle gaming and graphics-heavy apps a bit more smoothly.

Software

The Galaxy A16 5G crushes the Moto when it comes to software support. Samsung promises six years of OS and security updates — the best you’ll get in any mid-range phone.

The Moto G Power (2025) only gets two OS upgrades and three years of security patches. While the Motorola ships with Android 15 out of the box and the Galaxy runs Android 14, the long-term support from Samsung makes a huge difference.

Battery and charging

Both phones come with a 5,000mAh battery and easily last more than a day with normal use.

The Moto G Power edges ahead in charging: it supports 30W wired charging (vs. 25W on Galaxy A16 5G). More impressive than that is the 15W wireless charging support, something very rare in this price range. The Samsung phone lacks wireless charging.

Galaxy A16 5G vs Moto G Power 5G (2025): Which one should you buy?

The Galaxy A16 5G and Moto G Power 5G (2025) are both strong contenders in the budget smartphone space, but they shine in different areas. If you care about long-term software support, a better display, and a more capable camera setup, the Galaxy A16 5G is the clear winner. It offers an impressive six years of updates, a vibrant AMOLED screen, and reliable camera performance — all at a budget price.

However, the Moto G Power 5G (2025) fights back with its modern design, superior durability, and rare features like wireless charging and military-grade protection — things you hardly find in this price range. It also offers a slightly better gaming experience and faster charging. In the end, it comes down to your priorities.

Moto G Power lineup has dominated the budget smartphone segment with its exceptional value-for-money offering. The Moto G Power (2024) has been very successful, and now the 2025 edition is here with some nice upgrades.

The camera module now takes more space on the back, though the number of sensors is still the same — two on the back and one on the front. The Moto G Power (2025) looks a lot similar to the Edge 50 models that makes it look not-so-cheap, if not premium.

Motorola’s Leaf Green shade is the latest addition to its collection of striking color choices, though it also comes in a Slate Gray option. While design is subjective, the new color option looks far better to me than the standard whites, blacks, and silvers we’ve seen from other brands.

The 2025 model is 0.6mm smaller and 0.2mm thicker, while the width has gone up by 0.5mm. These minor differences will likely go unnoticed if you upgrade from the 2024 model. The rest of the spec sheet is largely similar to its predecessor except for stronger durability and protection.

The latest Moto G Power 5G rocks MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification that ensures protection in challenging conditions, such as free fall (nearly four feet), temperatures from -4°F to 140°F, and high humidity levels. It also features both IP68 and IP69 ratings for protection against dust and water (water jets also), which is only seen on premium smartphones. The 2024 model misses all of these, which makes the newer model a more reliable partner outdoors.

The IPS LCD screen is now slightly bigger at 6.8 inches (vs. 6.7 inches on the 2024 model). It still refreshes at 120Hz, which is already great. However, the notable addition is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There’s no display protection on the 2024 model. Motorola has indeed worked on bettering the protection and durability aspects, which was lacking before.

While the display has got some nice upgrades, the performance hasn’t. The 2025 edition is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, while the 2024 edition has a slightly more powerful Dimensity 7020 chip. The two chips don’t bring significant performance differences, though. So, you will still have a smooth experience with everyday tasks such as texting, browsing the internet, or scrolling social media.

The Moto G Power (2025) still comes with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, with a dedicated microSD slot for additional storage.

Motorola says it has worked to improve the camera output. However, the newer model shares the same hardware with its 2024 model — a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera. There are only software upgrades powered by AI, such as Shot Optimization, Google Lens integration, Google Photos auto enhancement, and Auto Night Vision. The selfie camera is still 16MP.

If there’s one notable downside to the Moto G Power (2025), it’s the software. Last year, we saw the brand promising five Android upgrades to some models, but the Moto G Power is out of luck. It is still capped at two OS updates and three years of bi-monthly patches. Thankfully, it ships with Android 15 out of the box.

The battery is still 5,000mAh with support for 30W wired. The device also supports 15W wireless charging, which is a missing part from budget phones. The 2025 model supports Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 5, and NFC, just like its 2024 counterpart.

Moto G Power (2025) vs Moto G Power (2024): Conclusion

The 2025 edition looks premium as it resembles the Edge 50 from the rear side, and the striking Leaf Green color on top makes it a great-looking budget phone. Motorola has focused on making the newer model more durable and tougher to survive challenging conditions by adding IP68, IP69, and MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification. The device also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for additional protection.

There’s a new Dimensity 6300 chipset as well. The camera hardware is unchanged, though there are several AI features promising better outputs. The rest of the spec sheet is the same as the 2024 model.

Motorola has been consistently expanding its smartphone lineup, and recent certifications indicate the upcoming release of the Moto G Power 5G (2025). Building on the success of its predecessor, the Moto G Power 5G (2024), which launched exclusively in North America, this new model is expected to debut in the coming months with an extended regional rollout. Here’s what the certification listings and recent patents reveal about the future of Motorola’s smartphone releases.

Moto G Power 5G (2024)

Moto G Power 5G (2025) Design

Leaked renders from August have revealed a familiar design for the Moto G Power 5G (2025). The device is expected to sport a square camera module on the back with an LED flash and Motorola’s signature dimple. The right edge will house the volume rocker and power button. The front of the device will feature a centrally placed punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, with flat edges and reasonably slim bezels. The renders have showcased the phone in an attractive purple color, which could appeal to users looking for a stylish option in the mid-range segment.

Certification Details

The Moto G Power 5G (2025) has surfaced on several certification platforms recently, including the FCC, TUV Rheinland, and UL Demko. According to the FCC listing, this device will carry the model number XT2515-1, with additional regional variants labeled XT2515-2, XT2515-3, and XT2515V. These models are likely tailored for different markets, though the certifications confirm no notable differences in specifications among them. While the Moto G Power 5G (2024) was limited to North American markets, the expanded model lineup suggests the 2025 version might target a broader global audience.

Battery

The Moto G Power 5G (2025) will feature a battery model labeled RW50 with a 4850mAh rated capacity (5000mAh typical), identical to its predecessor. While the capacity remains the same, Motorola might introduce a more efficient chipset to potentially enhance the overall battery performance. This improvement could extend usage time without the need for a larger battery.

Connectivity & Charging

The FCC listing confirms a comprehensive range of connectivity features, including 5G support, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth BR/EDR/LE, and NFC. The device is also expected to support GNSS, FM radio, and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) capabilities.

Speaking of charging, UL Demko’s certification lists a 20W charger for the Moto G Power 5G (2025). Although slightly slower than the 30W wired charging supported by the 2024 model, the 2025 version retains wireless charging support. This makes the device versatile, offering both decent wired and wireless charging options, although users looking for ultra-fast charging might find the 20W speed modest.

Motorola’s Patent in Rollable Display

Beyond the Moto G series, Motorola is pushing boundaries with innovative technologies. A recent patent filing reveals a concept for a rollable display smartphone with an integrated full-screen fingerprint sensor. This new patent builds on the Moto Rizr rollable concept phone, showcased in 2023, which featured a flexible display that could extend from 5 inches to 6.5 inches. Now, Motorola aims to elevate the user experience with a full-screen fingerprint sensor, allowing users to unlock the device from any part of the display.

This patent showcases Motorola’s commitment to developing devices that merge convenience and flexibility. While there’s no guarantee this concept will hit the market soon, the possibility of a rollable phone with all-screen fingerprint sensing highlights Motorola’s dedication to innovative design.

The Road Ahead for Motorola

Looking forward, Motorola is expected to continue expanding its G series in 2025, with models like the Moto G 5G, Moto G Stylus 5G, Moto G45 5G, and Moto G64 5G.

Motorola first launched the Moto G Power in 2020. The company refreshed the lineup earlier this year with the Moto G Power 5G (2024). A recent leak suggests that Motorola is working on another refresh, set for release next year. The leaked image reveals a refreshed back design compared to the Moto G Power 5G (2024).

Moto G Power 5G 2025 (render)

The Moto G Power 5G (2025) could also offer one extra camera on the back

91mobiles has shared this concept render of an upcoming Motorola device with the model number Vegas XT2515-1. This model number closely resembles the Moto G Power 5G 2024 (XT2415-1). It appears that the ’24’ and ’25’ in the model numbers represent the release years of the devices, leading to speculation that the Vegas XT2515-1 is the Moto G Power 5G (2025).

The image shows the phone sporting a triple-camera setup on the back, a shift from this year’s dual-camera (50 MP + 8 MP UW) configuration. Additionally, the camera island features a refreshed design similar to recent Edge series devices like the Moto Edge 50 Pro.

The source speculates that the back panel might be made of vegan leather. Although the image is low-resolution and the material can’t be confirmed, the use of vegan leather on the affordably priced Moto G45 5G‘s back panel makes this plausible.

Despite these changes, the phone retains a flat display with a noticeably thicker chin and a flat middle frame from its predecessor. From the front and sides, the phone’s design remains largely unchanged.

Currently, the Moto G Power 5G (2024) is only available in North America, with no confirmation of a broader release. Therefore, it’s uncertain whether the Moto G Power 5G (2025) will be available globally. Furthermore, no specifications for the upcoming Moto G Power have been revealed yet.

This year’s model offers a 6.7″ IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution. It packs a 50 MP main and an 8 MP ultrawide on the back and a 16 MP selfie on the front. All of this is powered by a 5000 mAh battery, which supports 30W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
