If you have been in the loop, you might know smartphones are quietly getting more expensive. Just as Nothing Phone (3a) Lite saw a price bump today, Motorola has also increased prices for a handful of its devices in India. The revised pricing takes effect immediately and touches both its budget and mid-range portfolio.

Over the past few months, smartphone makers have been dealing with higher component costs, currency fluctuations, and ongoing supply chain pressure. This in turn, is directly affecting consumers, and Motorola’s latest revision fits neatly into that pattern.

Motorola hikes Moto G and Edge series prices in India

The price hike affects three devices across the Moto G and Edge lineups, including the Moto G35, Moto G57 Power, and Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. The increases vary depending on the variant, but in most cases, buyers are now paying between Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 more than before.

For the Moto G35, the base 4GB + 128GB variant now costs Rs 12,499, up from Rs 11,999. The higher-end 8GB + 128GB version sees a steeper jump, going from Rs 12,999 to Rs 13,999.

Moto G35

The Moto G57 Power, a higher-end phone in Motorola’s budget lineup, has also seen price changes. Its 8GB + 128GB model now retails at Rs 15,999, compared to its earlier price of Rs 14,999.

The biggest increase is on the mid-range Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. The 8GB + 128GB variant now costs Rs 22,999 (up from Rs 20,999), while the 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB variants have climbed to Rs 24,999 and Rs 26,999, respectively.

Moto Edge 60 Fusion

For buyers, the right time to purchase a phone is getting harder to predict. Prices that were once stable for months are now more fluid, even for devices that have been on the market for a while.

Motorola has really improved its software rollout pace, delivering faster updates this time, and hopefully, it will only keep getting better. The latest Android 16 update is already available to over a dozen of its devices, and is now expanding to four more Motorola smartphones via the beta program.

The company has just updated the MFN Beta Testing page, showing that the Android 16 beta program is now open for four more devices: Edge 2024, Edge 40 Pro, Edge+ 2023, and Moto G35 5G. The beta program is available in select regions as mentioned in the following list:

Here are the major upgrades in Motorola’s Android 16 update

Regarding the changes, there aren’t many, to be honest. This update may not feel like a major one, but there are a few quality-of-life improvements to look forward to. The new software reduces frustration when an app sends too many notifications in a short time by limiting the volume of successive notifications, thanks to the Notification cooldown feature.

Motorola users can now connect to the hotspot of another device without entering the password, provided the devices are logged into the same Google account. The Settings app has also received notable upgrades, now featuring Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, and Driving modes in the Modes section. Further, you can also create custom modes tailored to your specific needs.

The Android 16 update also introduces numerous enhancements to hearing aids for improved usability. Additionally, the latest software features enhanced security, performance upgrades, and better compatibility with newer apps.

The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

It packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 20W wired fast charging. Out of the box, it runs Android 14, with Motorola confirming an Android 15 update and two years of security patches.

Cameras and Other Features

On the rear, the Moto G35 5G houses a dual-camera setup with a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. For selfies, it offers a 16MP front camera. Additional highlights include dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, water touch technology, and an IP52 rating for water and dust resistance.

While the smartphone market across other categories has tough competition, the entry-level segment in 2024 is less crowded than in previous years. That is not to say brands haven’t launched phones in this range, but not all of them are a great bargain for their prices.

Fortunately, we’ve been able to put together a list of the best entry-level smartphones that we believe are worth your money. Keep in mind that the entry-level segment focuses on the essentials, so you won’t find premium features here.

However, one thing we made sure of while creating this list is that every phone supports 5G. While leading software support or top-tier cameras may not be a priority in this segment, securing a 5G handset is essential in 2024, regardless of the price.

Let’s get started.

Tecno Pop 9 5G

Tecno may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of smartphones, but its Pop 9 5G brings a lot to the table, especially for its price.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G is surprisingly sleek with its 165 x 77 x 8 mm frame and a weight of 189g. While its build is nothing fancy – a glass front and plastic back – it is a unique-looking phone for the segment. It has a squircle camera island and the sensors are aligned vertically with an LED flashlight to their right. Tecno even ships two skins in the box if you wish to customize the design.

It’s also IP54 dust and splash-resistant, which is a nice bonus for a budget phone. The 6.6-inch IPS LCD display features a 120Hz refresh rate but has an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels (~267 ppi). It’s not the sharpest display in this list, but it should be good enough for everyday use like social media and videos.

It is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 6300 (6nm) which is one of the best smartphone chips in its segment. Accompanying this is 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage).

The phone is fueled by a 5000mAh battery that supports 18W wired charging. The camera setup includes a 48MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and an 8MP selfie camera that also comes with dual-LED flash for better low-light selfies. Video recording tops out at 1080p@30fps.

Poco C75 5G

Poco C75 is the company’s most recent offering for the global market. The phone is a bit hefty at 204g weight and is a bit on the large side, with a 6.88-inch display (720 x 1640 resolution). But that extra real estate can be a plus if you watch a lot of videos. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits of brightness.

This phone is powered by the Mediatek Helio G81 Ultra (12nm), paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The latter can be expanded up to a terabyte via a microSD card.

It has a 5160mAh battery that should easily last a full day. The cell gets its juice back from 18W wired charging and surprisingly, for the price, the Poco C75 even has PD charging support. It has a 50MP main camera and a 13MP selfie camera.

Honor Play 9T

Honor’s Play 9T brings some premium touches to the budget space, making it a compelling option for those who prioritize battery life and design.

At 197g, the Play 9T feels robust, and its IP64 water and dust resistance adds an extra layer of reassurance. The 6.77-inch TFT LCD display offers a 120Hz refresh rate and decent colors, though its 720 x 1610 resolution isn’t the sharpest in the category.

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset (4nm), which is a step above many of its competitors in efficiency. The memory option includes 8GB or 12GB RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

This phone truly shines with its massive 6000mAh battery. It’ll easily last two days for average users, and the 35W wired charging is faster than most phones in this price range.

Its dual-rear camera system includes a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth lens. On the front, there’s a basic 5MP selfie camera.

Motorola Moto G35 5G

Motorola’s budget offerings have long been about balance, and the Moto G35 5G is no different. It’s practical, reliable, and doesn’t try to do too much.

At 188g, the G35 is lighter than most competitors. It features Gorilla Glass 3 on the front for added durability and comes with a water-repellent design. The phone is slim at 7.8mm, making it comfortable to hold.

The 6.72-inch IPS LCD display offers a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, which is a clear step up from the competition in terms of sharpness (~392 ppi density). It also supports HDR10 and can hit 1000 nits peak brightness.

Powered by the Unisoc T760 chipset (6nm), the G35 handles day-to-day tasks smoothly. You get up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, plus a dedicated microSD slot for expandable storage.

The 5000mAh battery is reliable and should last a full day of moderate use. Charging is capped at 18W. The dual-camera setup includes a 50MP main lens and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. A 16MP camera sits on the front for selfies with video recording support of up to 4K@30fps.

Let’s check out these products one by one.

Upcoming Smartphones Next Week

Redmi Note 14 Series

The Redmi Note 14 series is scheduled to launch in India on December 9 (Monday). The lineup includes three models, namely Redmi Note 14, Redmi Note 14 Pro, and Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus.

The three phones are the same as the ones released in China. However, it is worth noting that the base version has an extra rear camera (ultrawide unit).

Unsurprisingly, the Pro Plus offers the best features of all. It comes with a 1.5K 120Hz curved OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, and a 50MP 2.5x telephoto camera. Whereas the Pro features a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra SoC and misses out on the telephoto camera.

Finally, the vanilla variant arrives with an FHD+ 120Hz OLED display and a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra chip.

It is built around a 6.72-inch 120Hz display (LCD). Under the hood, it houses a Unisoc T760 chip and a 5,000mAh battery which supports 18W charging.

Further, the handset comes with a 50MP main camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dedicated MicroSD card slot.

Realme Neo 7

The Realme Neo 7 will be made official in China on December 11 (Wednesday). It will be the first non-GT Neo phone from the brand.

Motorola is all set to launch its latest budget-friendly 5G smartphone, the Moto G35, in India on December 10th. Following its global debut, the price range for the Moto G35 has now been revealed through a Flipkart microsite, giving Indian consumers a clearer idea of what to expect.

Moto G35 price and availability in India

According to the Flipkart listing, the Motorola G35 5G is expected to be priced under Rs 10,000 in India, which is , surprisingly, lower than the Rs 10,999 price tag of the Moto G34 5G. This price range not only positions the device as an affordable option but also one that can effectively meet the requirements of most.

Moto G35

For comparison, the global variant of the Motorola G35 5G was priced at EUR 199 (around Rs 17,700) for the 4GB + 128GB model.

Key specifications and features

The Motorola G35 5G comes with several upgrades over its predecessor. The device will feature a 6.7-inch 120Hz Full HD+ display, which is a considerable improvement from the HD+ display found on the Moto G34. The global version also reaches a peak brightness of 1000nits, which is impressive for an IPS panel.

Under the hood, the Motorola G35 will be powered by the Unisoc T760 SoC, which replaces the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset found in the previous model. While the Unisoc T760 may or may not match the efficiency of the Snapdragon 695, it is expected to offer sufficient power for everyday tasks alongside 5G connectivity.

On the camera front, the phone offers a significant upgrade, featuring a 50MP primary camera paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, compared to the 2MP macro lens on the Moto G34. For selfies, the device will come with a 16MP front camera, ensuring clear and sharp photos and video calls.

In terms of software, it will ship with a clean and lightweight UI experience based on Android 14. Motorola has also committed to one OS upgrade and two years of security patches, ensuring that the device stays up to date for at least a significant portion of the phone’s lifespan.

The upcoming phone will be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and 20W wired charging support, matching its predecessor. The phone will be available in three colour options: Black, Green, and Red, and will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.

Display

The Moto G35 5G features a 6.72-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming. With support for HDR10 and a 1000 nits peak brightness, the display is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, offering vibrant colors and excellent clarity. Additionally, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, enhancing its durability against scratches and minor impacts.

Performance

At the heart of the Moto G35 5G is the UNISOC T760 SoC, a 6nm octa-core processor combining quad Cortex A76 and octa Cortex A55 cores clocked at up to 2.21 GHz. This chipset is paired with the Mali-G57 MC4 GPU, ensuring good enough performance for everyday tasks and multimedia consumption. The phone is expected to come in two memory configurations: 4GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, with support for expandable storage up to 1TB via microSD.

Camera

The standout feature of the Moto G35 5G is its 50MP primary camera. This camera incorporates Quad Pixel technology, promising better low-light performance and sharper details. Additionally, the phone includes an 8MP ultra-wide camera for capturing expansive landscapes and group shots. On the front, the device houses a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.45 aperture, ensuring clear and vibrant selfies.

The G35 5G is touted as the first phone in its segment to offer 4K video recording, making it an excellent choice for content creators and vloggers on a budget. While it lacks the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) found in its sibling, the G55 5G, the combination of software enhancements and decent hardware still delivers impressive results.

Design and Build

Motorola has paid close attention to the design of the Moto G35 5G. Globally, the device comes in four color options: Leaf Green, Guava Red, Midnight Black, and Sage Green. Each of these variants is available with a vegan leather finish, giving the phone a premium look and feel. Measuring 7.79mm in thickness and weighing around 191g (depending on the material finish), the Moto G35 5G is sleek and comfortable to hold.

The phone also features a water-repellant design, adding a layer of protection against accidental splashes. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Audio and Connectivity

The Moto G35 5G does not compromise on audio quality. It comes with stereo speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos, delivering an immersive sound experience for music, movies, and gaming. The device also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and includes an FM Radio, catering to traditional audio enthusiasts.

On the connectivity front, the phone supports 12 5G bands, ensuring widespread compatibility across different networks.

Battery and Charging

Moto G35 5G is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 18W TurboPower charging. Some users might find it slightly slower compared to competitors offering faster charging speeds. Nevertheless, it strikes a good balance for its price point.

Pricing and Availability

Motorola has hinted that the Moto G35 5G will be priced under ₹10,000 in India, making it one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in the market. Globally, the phone has been introduced with a starting price of €199 ($209).

Final Thoughts

The Moto G35 5G packs an impressive feature set for its price, including a bright 120Hz display, a capable camera system, and 5G connectivity. Its sleek design and durable build make it a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers.
Motorola has officially confirmed the launch date of the Moto G35 for the Indian market. The upcoming smartphone is a mid-range device. The Moto G35 was first unveiled globally and it is now making its way to the Indian market, so here’s everything you need to know.

Moto G35: What we know so far

To recall, the Moto G35 made its global debut back in August 2024 alongside the Moto G55. Months after its overseas release, the brand is finally bringing it to the Indian market. This model was spotted on Flipkart, which is a popular e-retailer in the region. This confirms its Flipkart availability along with its upcoming launch date. Motorola is gearing up to unveil the Moto G35 in the Indian market on 10th December 2024.

Moto G35

Looking at the teaser image posters on Flipkart, we can see that the Moto G35 will launch in multiple color options. This includes a green, red, and black variants. Notably, the rear appears to have a vegan leather panel for a more premium finish. Unfortunately, this was all the information shared on Flipkart. But based on its global launch, we know that the smartphone features a tall 6.7-inch display with an FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 1000 nits of peak brightness.

Under the hood, it is equipped with the UNISOC T760 SoC, which is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This model also supports virtual RAM expansion up to 8GB. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 20W wired fast charging. Other notable features include Android 14 OS, 50MP dual rear cameras, a 16MP selfie shooter, Dolby Atmos, a slim 7.79mm body, and an IP52 rating for water and dust resistance. Since it is a mid range model, we can expect it to cost around 15,000 INR.
