Motorola launched Moto G8 Power Lite in India in late May. Surprisingly, for a phone releasing in 2020, it came with Android 10 out of the box. Now, nearly five months after its launch, the handset has finally begun to receive last year’s Android 10 in the country while some devices are awaiting for their stable Android 11 build.

A few years back, Motorola was known for delivering faster Android updates. It was also one of the few companies to provide regular security patches. But that is not the case anymore.

The company has become so bad in software that it launched Moto G8 Power Lite with Android Pie after 8 months from the release of Android 10. What’s even worse is it has taken the firm almost five months to deliver a year old Android update.

Nevertheless, it is here now in India and if you own this smartphone, then make sure to check for the OTA update from Settings. That said, as it is being currently rolled out in batches, it may take time to reach your unit. Therefore, don’t worry if you haven’t received it yet.

On the other hand, Motorola had promised at least two Android updates for its flagship smartphone Edge Plus. However, it is yet to receive a single Android 11 beta build.

Recently, the Indian government hiked the GST rate for smartphones, and thus, the smartphone makers hiked the pricing of several popular phones in India. Now, Motorola is following the suite with the Moto G8 Power Lite.

The Moto G8 Power Lite smartphone was launched in India in May for ₹8,999 (~$120). From now onwards, the device will be available for purchase for ₹9,499 (~$126) which represents an increase of ₹500 (~$7).

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone features a 6.5-inch Max Vision IPS LCD display that offers HD+ screen resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. There’s a notch on top of the display for housing the front-facing camera sensor.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone comes in this single memory variant. However, there’s a microSD card slot that enables storage expansion.

In the camera department, the phone has a triple-camera setup on the back that consists of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF, an f/2.4 aperture 2-megapixel macro shooter, and an f/2.4 aperture 2-megapixel depth sensor.

On the front side, the device offers an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The smartphone, which comes with a splash-resistant body, supports Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and micro-USB port.

The Moto G8 Power Lite is running the older Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box. This is a bit disappointing given that the could have offered the Android 10 operating system as the launch of Android 11 is just around the corner. The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support.

Motorola announced the Motorola Moto G8 Power Lite smartphone in Europe in April with a pricing of 169 euros. The model numbers XT2055-1, XT2055-2 and XT2055-4 belong to the different country variants of the G8 Power Lite. In February, the XT2055-3 variant was approved by the NBTC regulatory body of Thailand as Lenovo K11 Power. The Google Play Console has a Lenovo K11 Power listing. The NBTC and Google Play Console appearances reveal that the Lenovo K11 Power will be arriving as the rebranded version of the Moto G8 Power Lite smartphone.

The Lenovo K11 Power’s Google Play Console reveals that the device has an HD+ resolution supporting the waterdrop notch screen. It further reveals that the Helio P35 fuels the phone along with 4 GB of RAM. The older Android 9 Pie OS will come preinstalled on the smartphone.

In April, the Lenovo K11 Power was spotted at Android Enterprise with a 6.5-inch display. The listing had revealed other specs like Android 9 Pie OS, 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of native storage. The K11 Power may go official this month.

The Moto G8 Power Lite has landed in India in two color variants such as Royal Blue and Arctic Blue. The phone is priced at Rs. 8,999 (~$119) and its first sale will be held on Flipkart on May 29 at 12 PM in India.

Last month, Motorola announced the Moto G power in the US and the Moto G8 Power in the UK. Both are mid-range phones with a Snapdragon 665 processor and a 5000mAh battery capacity. However, the former has three rear cameras while the latter has a quad-camera setup on the rear. Last week, it was revealed that Motorola was working on another version called the Moto G8 Power Lite.

The leak revealed this “Lite” version swaps the Snapdragon 665 processor for MediaTek’s Helio P35 chipset while keeping the 5000mAh battery capacity.

Press renders of the upcoming smartphone have now leaked and they show that Motorola will be retaining the design of the US’ Moto G Power.

The images of the Moto G8 Power Lite were posted on Twitter by Roland Quandt (@rquandt). The device has a hole in the top left corner of its display. It also has three rear cameras arranged vertically and a fingerprint scanner. The inscription beside the camera housing reveals the phone has an ultrawide camera and a macro camera paired with the primary sensor.

The images also show the Moto G8 Power Lite has an audio jack at the bottom, to the left of the USB port. The textured power and volume control buttons are on the right while the SIM tray is on the left.

There is still a lot we do not know about the Moto G8 Power Lite but we presume it will come with less RAM and storage than the Moto G Power which has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. We also expect it to be slightly cheaper.

Motorola is yet to announce a release date for the phone. The manufacturer is also expected to announce a flagship phone called the Moto Edge+ and a mid-range phone with a Snapdragon 675 processor called the Motorola One Mid.

After a nearly two-year hiatus, Motorola will announce a new flagship phone this year. Leaks have revealed the phone is called the Edge +. Today, more details of the device have surfaced alongside that of two other mid-range phones – the Motorola One Mid and the Moto G8 Power Lite.

Motorola Edge+

The source of the info is Mishaal Rahman of XDA-Developers. Based on the tweets, the Motorola Edge+ will have a 6.67-inch 2340 x 1080 90Hz display. This will be Motorola’s first phone with a high refresh rate, a feature that has become popular since last year.

We already know the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor and a Geekbench listing from last month revealed it will have 12GB of RAM and run Android 10 out of the box.

Mishaal adds that the phone will have a battery capacity of over 5000mAh. It should also have fast charging support and one that is much faster than the 15W TurboPower that it currently bundles with its phones.

The Motorola Edge+ will be available via Verizon in the US and also be launched globally.

Motorola One Mid

Motorola’s One series will also get new members this year and one of them will launch as the Motorola One Mid.

The phone will have a 6.53-inch 2340 x 1080 display but it is not known what design it will have. Motorola has adopted the pop-up selfie camera design, the punch-hole design, and waterdrop notch design for the One series; so this new device may have any of the above.

The Motorola One Mid will have a Snapdragon 675 processor just like the Motorola One Hyper that launched in December 2019. The RAM and storage capacity are not known but the battery capacity is stated as 4000mAh.

Moto G8 Power Lite

The Motorola Moto G Power was announced early this month. It has a punch-hole display, a Snapdragon 665 processor, four rear cameras, and a 5000mAh battery capacity. It has been reported that there will be a less-powerful model and it will launch as the Moto G8 Power Lite.

Mishaal says the phone swaps the Snapdragon 665 for MediaTek’s Helio P35 processor but it keeps the 5000mAh battery capacity. That is all that is known about the phone at the moment. However, we want to believe that this model may launch in Latin America but will not be sold in the US.
