Motorola launched the Moto G9 series last year. All the devices in the lineup debuted with Android 10. Now, months after their release, three models, namely Moto G9, Moto G9 Power, and Moto G9 Play have finally started receiving the Android 11 update.

According to a report by PiunikaWeb, Motorola, the sub-brand of Lenovo, has started rolling out the Android 11 update for Moto G9, Moto G9 Power, and Moto G9 Play. Like any other OTA system update, the latest software update for these handsets is being seeded out in batches.

In simpler words, the new update is only available for a select few users in certain regions. Anyway, the update should reach all the users in different regions in the coming days.

Going by the update track record of Motorola, Android 11 should be the first and the last major update for Moto G9, Moto G9 Power, and Moto G9 Play. But these handsets will likely receive security updates for quite a while.

A few years back, Motorola was known for its software support. At times, the company used to deliver security patches before Google rolls out for Nexus devices. The firm was even quicker at rolling out Android updates.

Right now, if you are looking for an Android smartphone with proper timely software updates, a Samsung Galaxy smartphone in your budget should be the right pick.

Last month, Motorola announced the Moto G9 Power and Moto G 5G phones in the global markets. Both phones are now official in India. While the Moto G 5G got introduced as the cheapest 5G phone in India earlier this month, the Moto G9 Power went official today.

Moto G9 Power price in India

The Moto G9 Power for India comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It is priced at Rs 11,999 (~$162) and it comes in two colors such as Sophisticated Metallic Sage and Vivid Electric Violet. Flipkart will begin the sales of the Moto G9 Power from Dec. 15 at 12 PM. Users with HDFC Bank cards can avail Rs 1,750 (~$24) instant discount, whereas Axis Bank credit card users can avail 5 percent unlimited cashback.

Moto G9 Power specifications

The Moto G9 Power has a 6.8-inch IPS LCD HD+ display with a punch-hole design. It has an IP52 rated splash-resistant rear shell. A fingerprint scanner is integrated with the Moto logo on the rear.

The Snapdragon 662 SoC fuels the smartphone and it carries support for 20W fast charging for its 6,000mAh battery. The My UX based Android 10 OS comes preinstalled on the smartphone. There is a microSD card slot onboard for more storage.

The front side of the Moto G9 Power features a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The square-shaped camera module on its rear has a 64-megapixel main lens, a 2-megapixel depth helper, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. It comes with other specs like dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Earlier last month, Motorola officially unveiled Moto G9 Power with a large capacity battery. This smartphone was initially made available in select western countries. Now, almost a month later, the company has confirmed to launch it in India on December 8.

The Moto G9 Power is just another budget smartphone with a massive 6,000mAh battery with support for TurboPower 20 fast charging (20W). Because of the huge battery, the device also sports a large 6.8-inch IPS LCD panel on the front with a punch-hole nesting a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.

But unfortunately, this display only comes with a resolution of 720 x 1640 pixels (HD+) with 264 ppi, 20:5:9 aspect ratio, and 87.2% screen-to-body ratio. Further, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage (India and China) along with support for microSD cards (up to 512GB). Whereas, in other regions, the same handset and comes with 128GB storage.

Moving on, the back of the phone is made of plastic and houses a 64MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) triple camera setup paired with an LED flash in a matrix-like alignment. The rear panel of the device also includes a fingerprint sensor with the iconic ‘Motorola Batwing’ logo.

It is an astonishing device if we consider its specifications and the listing price decided by Xiaomi for Europe. You get a huge battery and pretty good hardware for a ridiculous price if compared to most of the concurrence. But is it a ridiculous price even if we compare it with the best value for money phones out there? In this comparison, we will highlight the differences between the POCO M3 and two other great handsets sold in the same price range: the Motorola Moto G9 Power and the Realme 7.

Design

With its huge camera module taking a big part of the rear side, the POCO M3 offers a very original design, but not everyone may like it. Instead, the Realme 7 looks more elegant with its less invasive camera module, great color variants, and a punch-hole display with a high screen-to-body ratio. The Realme 7 is even more compact because it features a smaller display and a smaller battery than its rivals. The Motorola Moto G9 Power is pretty nice too, but its rear-mounted fingerprint reader is not the most elegant and comfortable choice. On the other hand, it is water-repellent. If I had to choose the best design, I would go for the Realme 7.

Display

The display champion is the Realme 7 and the reason is simple: it offers a higher refresh rate. With 90 Hz, you can already feel the difference in smoothness if compared to the 60 Hz panels of the POCO M3 and the Motorola Moto G9 Power. All of these devices feature an IPS panel, but the Motorola Moto G9 Power is more disappointing because it has an HD+ resolution, while Realme 7 and POCO M3 have Full HD+ displays with a higher level of detail. So the ranking is the following: Realme 7, POCO M3, and Motorola Moto G9 Power.

Hardware/Software

The MediaTek Helio G95 chipset found on the Realme 7 is actually built with a worse production process (12 nm vs 11 nm) but it offers higher performance compared to the Snapdragon 662 chipset found on the POCO M3 and the Motorola Moto G9 Power. Further, the Realme 7 offers up to 8 GB of RAM, while you get just 4 GB of RAM with Motorola Moto G9 Power and Xiaomi POCO M3. That is why Realme 7 wins the hardware comparison. In each case, you get Android 10 already installed, but the Moto G9 Power offers a nearly-stock user experience.

Camera

Motorola Moto G9 Power provides the best photo quality because it has a better sensor in the rear camera setup: we are talking about its 64 MP main sensor with f/1.8 focal aperture. The silver medal goes to the Realme 7 with a 48 MP quad camera including an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macro and depth. But the POCO M3 is not so far with its 48 MP triple camera: it just lacks the dedicated macro sensor if compared to the Realme 7.

Battery

POCO M3 and Motorola Moto G9 Power feature the same huge 6000 mAh battery capacity, but the battery king here is the Motorola Moto G9 Power because it is equipped with an HD+ display consuming less energy. The Realme 7 has a smaller 5000 mAh battery but it is still a battery phone and it charges way faster with its 30W power.

Price

Realme 7 is priced €179/$215 in the global market, POCO M3 was launched with a starting price of just €129/$155 (promo), and Motorola Moto G9 Power is priced at €199/$240. The best device in this comparison is the Realme 7 thanks to its high refresh rate and better hardware, but if you are looking for the best value for money, then you would better go for the POCO M3. It was recently confirmed that Lenovo will once again start selling Lemon branded phones in China. The Lemon brand will target entry-level and mid-range buyers in the home market. Today, the company took to confirm that it will be launching the Lemon K12 smartphone on Dec. 9 in China.

The launch poster released by the company only confirms only the Lemon 12 moniker. The company is yet to spill information on its specs. Lenovo had recently teased the design of an upcoming Lemon phone. The teasers revealed that it has a punch-hole display, a hardware key on the left edge, and a square-shaped camera module housing three cameras.

It is speculated that the upcoming Lemon phones could be a rebranded version of the Motorola phones that were recently made official in global markets. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know whether the Lenovo K12 is a brand-new phone for a rebadged Motorola handset.

A smartphone with model number XT2091-7 was spotted at TENAA with a few specs and images. The listing revealed it is the Moto G9 Power for China. However, reports surrounding suggest that it will be branded a Lenovo device. It is speculated that this device could be rebadged as the Lemon K12 Pro in China. A recent report had also revealed that the Moto E7 Plus could be also rebranded as a Lemon branded phone. The E7 Plus may go official as the Lenovo K12.

The Moto E7 Plus has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD HD+ screen and it is powered by a Snapdragon 460 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Earlier this week, tipster Mukul Sharma who is better known as @stufflistings on social platforms hinted at the arrival of a new Moto G phone in India. A newer tweet by him reveals that India will be receiving two news phones namely, the Moto G 5G and Moto G9 Power, which debuted in the European markets earlier this month.

The tipster did not share any other information about the upcoming Motorola G-series phones for India. In Europe, the Moto G9 Power with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage arrived with a price tag of 199 euros (~Rs 17,450). On the other side, the Moto G 5G’s two variants like 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage landed in Europe with respective price tags of 299 euros (~$354; ~Rs 26,200) and 349 euros (~$413; ~Rs 30,600).

At present, the Snapdragon 765G powered OnePlus Nord 5G with a starting price of Rs 24,999 (~$338) is the cheapest 5G phone available in India. The upcoming Moto G 5G is packed with decent specs to rival the OnePlus Nord. The Moto G 5G is packed with specs like an FHD+ 6.7.-inch IPS LCD punch-hole display, Snapdragon 750G processor, 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad rear cameras, a 16-megapixel camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging support.

Yesterday, Redmi took to Weibo to confirm that it will be launching the Redmi Note 9 5G series on Nov. 26 in China. The lineup includes two 5G-enabled smartphones and a 4G phone. Soon after Redmi’s announcement, Lenovo teased the arrival of new phones through its Weibo handle.

Yesterday, Redmi teased the Note 9 series’ arrival with the “Three Swords Together” tagline. The machine-translated text of the Weibo post by Lenovo reads, “Where there are people, there are rivers and lakes. Three swords in one? Or is it a 6-blade sheath? If you want to compete with the rivers and lakes, meet on high.“ It appears Lenovo will be rivaling the Note 9 series with its upcoming smartphones. Lenovo’s teaser poster reads “6 Coming” and it shows three handsets with a bezel-less design.

A few years, Lenovo used to sell Lemon-branded midrange phones. However, with increased competition from other brands, Lemon phones gradually started disappearing from the market. Recently, Lenovo confirmed that it will once again release Lemon smartphones in China. There is a possibility that Lemon could be a rebranded edition of Motorola phones that are available in other markets.

Lenovo’s General Manager for Mobile Business Department Chen Jin had recently said in an interview that Lenovo and Motorola will position their products differently. Motorola will release mid-to-high smartphones and Legion brand will have performance-driven smartphones. The entry-level smartphone will receive Lemon-branded phones.

Before the launch of the Moto G9 Power, it was spotted with XT2091 model number at the FCC certification platform. The listing revealed that the XT2091-3 variant has Motorola branding, whereas the XT2091-8 is a Lenovo phone.

A new phone with XT2091-7 model number has surfaced in the database of China’s TENAA telecom authority. The preliminary listing at TENAA reveals that the handset measures 172 x 76.7 x 9.6mm and it has a 6.78-inch display. The device houses a 5,640mAh battery. The dimensions and display of the phone are similar to the Moto G9 Power, but its battery size differs slightly. Probably, a slightly modified version of the Moto G9 Power could be coming to China as a Lemon series phone.

In early to mid-October, a Motorola smartphone with model number XT2091 was spotted on multiple certification bureaus. This device was said to launch as Moto G9 Power. Now, this handset goes official in Europe for €200.

As the name suggests, the Motorola Moto G9 Power is all about its battery. This smartphone is backed by a massive 6,000mAh battery, which is common in a number of Galaxy M series phones. 

However, those Samsung devices max out at 15W charging, whereas the Motorola handset supports 20W charging. Anyway, it still lags behind the Galaxy M51’s 7,000mAh battery and 25W fast charging.

That said, apart from the battery, the other specs of this device are mediocre. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. If required, the memory space can be further expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card.

Motorola is all set to launch a new budget smartphone with model number XT2091. This handset will be also debuting as a Lenovo-branded device in some markets. The existence of this phone has been confirmed by FCC, EEC and TÜV Rheinland. The certifications by these bureaus have also revealed the device’s rear design, battery capacity, and charging speed.

According to FCC, the upcoming Motorola XT2091 will come with two model numbers – XT2091-3 & XT2091-8. The former will feature Motorola branding, whereas the latter will debut as a Lenovo smartphone.

Since this handset will be also launching as a Lenovo device just like the Moto G9 Play/Moto G9 which was recently spotted as K12 Note, the XT2091 should be a Moto G9 series device. 

MySmartPrice points out that this smartphone could be Moto G9 Power because EEC and TÜV Rheinland have revealed it to sport a massive 6,000mAh battery. On the Lenovo side, it may debut as K12 Power.

That said, going by its rear design sketch found on FCC’s website, the Motorola XT2091 will come equipped with triple camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Last but not least, FCC also confirms it to support 22.5W fast charging.
