Motorola has officially launched the Moto G96 in India, offering an impressive mix of design and specs at an aggressive price point. For under Rs 20,000, this budget phone features an ultra smooth curved AMOLED display, sub-flagship grade main camera, and more. So here’s what you need to know about its specs and pricing details.

Moto G96: What does it offer?

The new Moto G96 sports a 6.67-inch curved pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. This panel also has a 1600 nits of peak brightness, 10 bit colors, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and the brand’s latest Display Color Boost tech. Motorola brings its vegan leather design back on this model along with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The G96 has a slim 7.93mm chassis that is also lightweight (178 grams).

Under the hood, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, which is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. A large 5,500mAh battery pack powers this model with support for 33W wired fast charging. For optics, the rear has a 50MP Sony LYT700C primary camera, which is a different variant of the main camera found on the OnePlus 13s and the flagship Oppo Find X8. This is paired with an 8MP ultra wide angle lens and a 32MP selfie shooter on the front.

Other notable features include dual SIM support, Water Touch 2.0, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi Res Audio, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Motorola has released the Moto G96 in four color variants, namely Ashleigh Blue, Cattleya Orchid, Dresden Blue, and Greener Pastures. It has a starting price tag of Rs 17,999 for the 8GB + 128GB option, while the 8GB + 256GB version costs Rs 19,999. As per the official listing, the Moto G96 5G will feature a 6.67-inch P-OLED panel with a curved-edge design. The screen will offer an FHD+ resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, 1600 nits brightness, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It will have a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top.

The Moto G96 5G will be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It will come with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It will pack a 5,500mAh battery with 33W fast charging.

On the front, the Moto G96 will feature a 32-megapixel selfie camera. Its rear camera setup will house a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700C primary camera with OIS support and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, which can also be used for macro shots.

Motorola is working on another G series phone called the Moto G96, expected to launch soon alongside the Moto G86. While there’s no official announcement yet, a new leak from Android Headlines shows images and key specs of the Moto G96.

The phone will feature a 6.67-inch curved pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color, and Water Touch 2.0. It has a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. The design looks similar to the Moto G85, unlike the G86, which is expected to come with a flat display.

The Moto G96 will be available in four colors, all made with vegan leather: Cattleya Orchid (lavender), Dresden Blue, Greener Pastures, and Ashleigh Blue.

Inside, the phone is said to run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. It will come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 7s Gen 2 is a step up from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 used in the Moto G95, although Motorola is not using the newer 7s Gen 3.

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C main sensor and an 8MP macro lens. The front camera is expected to be 32MP. The phone will have a 5,500mAh battery. Pricing details will be made official at launch, however, the phone is expected to launch below the ₹25,000 mark in India, which converts to around US$270.

Motorola is shifting its focus to its budget-friendly Moto G lineup, right after the unveiling the Edge 60 and Razr 60 series. Excitement was already building up for the Moto G86, a step up from the Moto G85, with its leaked design hinting at a June 2025 debut. But a new leak from X user @evleaks dropped a bombshell: the Moto G96 is also in the works, poised to be the top dog in the G-series.

No specs or design details have surfaced for the G96, leaving fans guessing about its camera, display, or chip—maybe a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 like the Edge 60. Its name suggests it’s a cut above the G86, which might sport a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED and 50MP main camera. Sadly, US fans might miss out, as the Moto G number series hasn’t launched stateside since the Moto G100 in 2021.

To recall, the Moto G85 features a 6.67-inch FHD+ P-OLED display with curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a 50MP + 8MP dual rear camera setup, and a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip. It’s backed by a 5000mAh battery with 30W wired charging.

Motorola’s rapid-fire releases keep the G-series fresh, but the G96’s timing is murky—possibly late 2025 or early 2026. According to rumors, this phone could rival the Poco X7, which is currently priced at ₹19,499 on Amazon. Nonetheless, it’s all hype and rumors for now.
