Today, the Moto M bearing the same model number has appeared on GFXBench benchmarking platform with some modified specs.

One of the most striking changes that can be seen on the freshest listing of Moto M on GFXBench is that it features a 4.6-inch display that carries support for full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Also, the 32 GB model of Moto M had featured 3 GB of RAM. There was another 64 GB variant of the phablet that came with 4 GB of RAM. The recent GFXBench listing of Moto M shows that it features 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM.

The listing contains two CPU variants such as MediaTek MT6755 (Helio P10) and MT6755T (Helio P15) for the Moto M. The Helio P10 model is running on Android Marshmallow whereas the Helio P15 variant is running on Android Nougat. Both the models feature the same amount of RAM and internal storage.

Last year, Lenovo had released the Moto M with Helio P10 in China and the Indian markets received its Helio P15 edition. The benchmark listing also reveals a 16-megapixel rear camera 4K video recording support and an 8-megapixel frontal shooter which can shoot full HD videos.

It is strange to see the original Moto M listed with different specs on the benchmarking site when there are rumors on the arrival of its successor model. There is a possibility that Motorola could be testing a new phone that is based on 2016’s Moto M and that could be the reason why it is carrying the same model number. Also, there is possibility that the company could be prepping up to release a new variant or successor for the phone for regions outside of China and India.

A leakster who has been consistently spilling information on upcoming Moto phones has claimed that the Moto M2 is slated for a launch in October this year. He has revealed that the Moto M2 would be equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD screen. He added that the 64 GB Moto M2 will have 4 GB of RAM and the 128 GB Moto M2 will include 6 GB of RAM. Motorola is also speculated to launch the Moto X4 in the last quarter of this year.

Well-known leakster, Andri Yatim has claimed that the Moto M2 would be launching in October 2017.

According to Yatim’s tweet, the Moto M2 will be releasing in more markets this year. It will be coming with 5.5-inch full HD display like the original Moto M. Its 64 GB storage variant will be coming with 4 GB of RAM whereas its 128 GB variant would be featuring 6 GB of RAM.

We strongly believe it is the Moto M2 based on the configuration. A new Moto XT1902-2 seen getting WiFi certified may just be the second variant of the phone.

The Moto XT1902-2 was seen listed in a document from the WiFi Alliance. It runs Android 7.1.1 and has a MT6757CH a.k.a Helio P20 processor. Since the model numbers are almost identical, it shows that one is a variant of the other.

Last year when the Moto M was released, it came in two versions. The China version had a Helio P10 chip and the Indian variant featured a Helio P15 processor. It is not surprising that Lenovo/Motorola is following the same pattern this year for the Moto M2.

READ MORE: Moto X4 Details Leaked: Snapdragon 660, IP68 Rating, Dual Cameras & Possible June 30 Launch

It is still too early to know which version will make it to India and China as both devices have been sighted online really early. Last year’s Moto M was released in November and we are still in June. So unless Motorola has changed its release schedule, we may have to wait till the end of the year to find out.

While the former was more of a global release, the latter was released in a few Asian countries. The Moto M may be getting a successor soon, and we think it is the Lenovo XT1902-3 phone that was seen on Geekbench.

The Lenovo XT1902-3 is running Android 7.1.1 and has 4GB of RAM. There is a deca-core MT6797 processor clocked at 1.85GHz. For those who don’t know, that is the Helio X20 chip. The phone scores 1163 points in the single-core test and 4836 in the multi-core test.

Last year’s Moto M was available in two models asides the different memory configurations. One model was powered by a Helio P10 chip while the model released in India had the Helio P15 SoC. Since this is the first sighting of the phone, it is still too early to say if the same will happen this year.

The Moto M was released last November and there is a high chance the M2 may be released a lot earlier. For now, we know its getting a processor upgrade and Android 7.1.1. We’ll keep you updated when more details surface.
