The Moto X4 is a mid-range model but it is a premium mid-ranger and was first unveiled for Europe at IFA Berlin in September. The device is one of the first smartphones to come with inbuilt support for Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, and since it is based on Android 7.1 Nougat, it also supports Google Assistant. Other features which make the Moto X4 a standout model include an IP68 water and dust resistance.

The Moto X4 has a 5.2-inch 1080p display covered with a 2.5D glass. It has joined the still very short list of phones powered by the Snapdragon 630 mobile platform. There will be two variants – a 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM version for the US and Europe and a 4GB RAM + 64GB model for other markets.

For connectivity, the phone has Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi a/b/g/n/ac and supports LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/20/25/26/28/66 as well as TDD LTE bands 38 and 41. It also has NFC. In addition, the Moto X4 packs a 3000mAh battery and a USB type-C port sits at the bottom and flanking it on the right is a 3.5mm audio jack. On the camera end, there is a dual 12MP + 8MP rear cameras as well as a 16MP selfie shooter.

The device is expected to carry a retail price of Rs. 23,999, based on a recent leak. The price is significantly lower than the EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 30,300) price tag with which it was announced at IFA 2017. Lenovo-owned Motorola is gearing up to launch its new smartphone in the Indian market — Moto X4 on November 13. The company has now confirmed that the smartphone will be exclusively available via online retailer Flipkart in India.

Flipkart has already created a special landing page for the Moto X4 smartphone launch and mentions the 4 ‘Es’ — Extraordinary, Exceptional, Excellent and Exquisite. The media invite that Motorola sent out last week includes a large X logo followed by a hashtag #ExperiencePerfection. It further reads, “Experience ‘perfection’ crafted into a smartphone as Motorola brings to you the new Moto X4”.

To refresh, the Moto X4 was originally announced at IFA 2017 in Berlin in September. One of the highlight of the smartphone is that it features both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa as voice-based virtual assistants. The smartphone, which comes with IP68 rating, has a metal and glass design.

As of the specifications, the Moto X4 features a 5.2-inch LTS IPS Full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and pixel density of 424 ppi. For protection of display, there is a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top. Under the hood, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. However, in India, the company might launch another variant with 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM.

In the camera department, the smartphone features a dual camera setup at the back. There is a 12-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out of the box and has a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button. The device packs a 3,000mAh battery which the company claims can deliver power backup for the whole day.

The media invite reads, “Experience ‘perfection’ crafted into a smartphone as Motorola brings to you the new Moto X4.” The company goes on explaining the four ‘X’ of the smartphone — extraordinary, exceptional, excellent and exquisite.

Lenovo’s Motorola is expected to launch a number of smartphones this year and one of the phones expected is the Moto X4. The Moto X4 commands some level of interest due to the fact that the X series hasn’t had a new addition since 2015  and from earlier leaked photos, the X4 promises to come with a sleek design. We now have a more distinct photo of the X4 showing the device both from the front and back.

The Moto X4 is a mid-range device but the photo in question shows a well-designed, premium look that I dare say resembles a flagship model. The design is patently Motorola’s as it resembles what the company had done in the past with the front physical home button which will double as a fingerprint sensor, a common feature on almost all Moto models. The exception thing on the design is the rear camera. At the rear, the device features a unique camera design where there is a dual camera setup with the cameras and flash lying inside a round enclosure which protrudes from the body forming a slight bump at the rear. The dual cameras are in a horizontal alignment with the LED flash sitting at the top in between the two cameras.

The Moto X4 is expected to come with a metal body and the specs have already been revealed to include a 5.2-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass protection. The device is expected to feature a Snapdragon 630 processor and that would be backed by a 3GB RAM with 32GB storage. Some models will have 4GB RAM + 64GB storage onboard. There are speculations that the device will pack a Snapdragon 660 chip but that may likely not happen. The Moto X4 will also be IP68 dust and water resistant.

Other expected specifications include a 16MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size, which Motorola touts as capable of shooting 4k video at 30 frames per second or Full HD video at 60 frames per second. The selfie camera is also said to be designed for ultra low-light selfies and will come with an Adaptive Low Light mode. At the rear, there will be a 12 MP + 8 MP dual camera setup with dual-tone LED flash and Phase Detection Autofocus as well as the ability to add depth of field effects, like most other dual camera devices. Also, the device will run on Android 7.1.1 OS and a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with TurboCharging feature. Although the X4 is tipped for release in the fourth quarter, no official date has been disclosed.

The Moto X4 is one of the models that are expected to herald the return of the rebranded Motorola line.  The model has appeared in a couple of leaks recently, including its likely image and is even rumoured for release in the fourth quarter of this year. A new leak has appeared on Twitter that reveals the price of the Moto X4.

The Moto X4 is expected to fall in the mid-range category and the most spectacular is that the device will be supported by Google’s MVNO, Project Fi. The leak points at a price in the region of €350 ($410) in Europe for the 32GB variant. There will likely be a 64GB variant but its price is yet to be disclosed.

There are speculations that the device will pack a Snapdragon 660 chip but that may likely not happen. Other expected specifications include a 12MP rear camera as well as a 16MP front camera. There is also a rumour that the device will feature a 12MP + 8 MP dual camera setup at the rear. Also, the device will run on Android 7.1.1 OS. Although the X4 is tipped for release in the fourth quarter, no official date has been disclosed. We could as well see the X4 and even the Moto G5S launching at IFA Berlin 2017.
