The phone is practically the Moto Z2 Force with a new and larger display, improved cameras, and a bigger battery. You still get the same Snapdragon 835 processor that powered last year’s flagships, Gorilla Glass 3, and support for Moto Mods.

It appears Motorola had a reason for not releasing a “proper” flagship. There are rumors that this year’s Moto Z series will be the last to have support for Mods as the design language for the series will be changed next year.

The first proof of that change in design is a new wireless charger that has been seen on the website of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). At the moment, Motorola doesn’t have a phone that supports wireless charging (built-in). However, there are some Moto Style shells that add wireless charging support to the Moto Z series.

We believe the next Motorola flagship will have wireless charging built-in instead of via an aftermarket add-on, hence the reason for making a wireless charger.

The wireless charger was certified yesterday and has model number CHR-0661. It is shaped like a disc like most wireless chargers and comes in black. On top, where your phone will lie, is the Motorola batwing logo and on the side is a LED indicator.

The Moto Style shells with wireless charging support 10W fast-charging. Hopefully, this charger and the phone it will be launched alongside support a higher power rating.

They are the Livermorium Slider Keyboard, the Lenovo Vital Moto Mod, and the Moto Folio Case, though only the case is available for purchase at the moment. A new mod called the Virtual Viewer has been leaked and may be the next mod that hits the market.

Official renders of the Virtual Viewer VR was posted on Twitter by Evan Blass (@evleaks) yesterday and it shows the mod beside its retail box.

This is a hell of a Mod… pic.twitter.com/Mah61AYIZr

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) March 9, 2018

The Virtual Viewer looks like your regular VR glasses. It has a polycarbonate body with a cut-out at the front for the cameras. It also has a strap that goes behind the head and a dial at the top, most likely for adjusting the distance between the lens.

It doesn’t have a remote, so we can’t really say this is Motorola’s answer to the Google Daydream View. Plus it does look like it should work with any phone or at least one with a 5.5” display like the Moto Z series.

Nevertheless, we won’t rule out the fact that it may have a special feature that makes it only compatible with the Moto Z series.

There is no news of a release date or price. There is also a possibility it may never be released with the recent developments said to be going on at Motorola which is said to have irreversibly affected the Z team in Moto according to the maker of the Livermorium Keyboard Moto Mod.

The info was shared on Twitter by @Evleaks and shows the Mod with a white back and a 360° camera on top. The Moto 360 Camera Mod clips on the back of your Moto Z, Z Play or Z2 Play via the moto mod pins and allows you to record 360° videos on the go via the camera at the top.

Information about the specs of the camera, pricing and availability are still unknown at the moment. Once we get our hands on it, we’ll update the post

Motorola is serious about the future of its Moto Mods and has said it will launch at least 12 moto mods each year. When the Moto 2 Play was announced it lunched alongside a new Moto Gamepad Mod, a 2nd-Gen JBL SoundBoost Mod, a TurboPower battery pack and new Moto Style Shells that add wireless charging to your phone.

Adding the new Moto 360 camera mod brings the new Moto Mods to 5 in total. If we are to hold Motorola to its words, we should expect 7 more mods before the year runs out.

What’s your opinion about the new camera mod? As long as the price is right and it comes in more colors, it doesn’t seem like a bad addition. Let us know what you think.

Traditionally, the company has been selling its top-end models under the banner of Moto X series, but now, it is said that this Lenovo owned company is all set to change its name this year. Instead of calling the new smartphone as the Motorola Moto X, the company seems to be rooting for the name Moto Z series in 2016.

So, is it just a change in name or will we see a whole new design and features on the Moto Z series?

Well, at this moment, we don’t have sufficient information to answer this question. Design wise, there may be a few changes, but the basic theme of the new Moto Z series is going to be similar. It is said that Motorola is working on two flagship smartphones this year, code named Vertex and Vector Thin. The latter will be a much more premium smartphone, and could be called as the Moto Z Style. This would make Vertex, the Moto Z Play model.

The report also reveals that the company would gently change the names of the Verizon branded versions in US as well. So, the new Moto Z series will probably end up being called as the Moto Z Play Droid Edition. And the premium accessories that have been rumoured to be sold separately would be called as MotoMods.
