However, things are starting to slowly settle down for the company with its G series and One series models doing well in the budget and mid-range segment. Now, the company thinks it&#8217;s the perfect time to get back into the premium segment. This is indeed big news given that <a href="https://gizmochina.com/tag/motorola">Motorola&#8217;s</a> last real flagship, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-moto-z2-force/">Moto Z2 Force</a> was announced nearly two years back!</p>
<p><img src="https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--_3aARLdh--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/qtuz8xqtfilrhalhftbs.jpg" alt="Illustration for article titled Motorola Thinks It’s Got the First 5G Phone—and Here’s the Mod That’s Making It Happen" /></p>
<p>Motorola&#8217;s head of global marketing strategy, Francoise LaFlamme said to CNET that the brand will launch a <a href="https://gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a>, premium flagship smartphone. The company&#8217;s last 5G phone was the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/moto-z3/">Moto Z3</a> which needed a separate 5G mod (costing an additional $350) to connect to the new generation network. So this upcoming 5G flagship should be the company&#8217;s first true 5G smartphone.</p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;"><strong>⇒ Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/06/live-shots-of-mysterious-motorola-phone-with-pop-up-selfie-camera-have-leaked/">Live shots of mysterious Motorola phone with pop-up selfie camera have leaked</a> </strong></h6>
<p>Francoise seems to hint that this phone would not sacrifice on features to keep the price low. So, we may finally see the latest Snapdragon 800 series processor inside, unlike the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/03/motorola-launches-the-moto-z3-packing-a-side-mounted-fingerprint-scanner-5g-moto-mod-and-more/">Moto Z3 which used 2017&#8217;s Snapdragon 835</a>. There&#8217;s also a remote possibility that Motorola could use Samsung&#8217;s Exynos chipset for its 5G phone. The South Korean smartphone maker has two great 5G chipsets available, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/04/samsung-exynos-980-announced/">one featuring an integrated design</a>. If you recall, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/15/motorola-one-vision-cinemavision-display-48mp-dual-camera-and-exynos-9609/">Motorola One Vision has an Exynos 9609</a>.</p>
<figure id="attachment_252684" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-252684" style="width: 719px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Motorola-One-Vision-featured-e1557935911261.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-252684" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Motorola-One-Vision-featured-e1557935911261.jpg?x10805" alt="Motorola One Vision featured" width="719" height="359" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-252684" class="wp-caption-text">Motorola One Vision features Exynos 9609</figcaption></figure>
<p>As for its price, the <em>premium</em> Motorola 5G flagship won&#8217;t likely be cheap. Given that the company is calling it premium, we can expect it to be priced around the same lines as other 5G flagship smartphones like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s10-5g-sd855/">Galaxy S10 5G</a> or even the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7-pro-5g/">OnePlus 7 Pro 5G</a>.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s possible that this 5G phone may see a limited release at launch, with a focus on markets like the US and the UK.</p>
