Motorola Android 13 update: What’s new

After upgrading, you’ll notice several improvements to the Android operating system and apps. Personalization options have expanded, allowing you to customize your phone further. You can now style app icons to match your wallpaper, accessible by touching and holding a blank space on your home screen and selecting “Personalize.”

The Moto Widget on your home screen has been updated, with the new expandable Adapt version allowing you to add and view more information. To revert to the old version or choose a different one, drag the current widget to the top of the screen and drop it on “Remove.” Then, touch and hold the home screen, go to “Widgets,” select “Moto Widget,” and drag the version you want to your home screen.

Settings changes include the ability to set supported apps to use a language different from your phone’s default. You also have more control over notifications and privacy, with options to adjust notification permissions and limit photo and video sharing on a per-app basis.

The Gestures menu has moved to Settings > Gestures, from its previous location under Settings > System > Gestures, allowing you to turn gestures on or off easily. These updates provide enhanced control and customization options.

While this update is welcome news for Edge 20 Fusion users, it highlights Motorola’s slow pace of software updates. Other manufacturers are already testing Android 15 betas, making Motorola’s approach appear sluggish. All that said, this update is likely the last the Edge 20 Fusion will receive since it launched back in 2021 with Android 11 onboard.

Motorola Edge 20 series Indian launch

Motorola’s Edge 20 series made its stop in India last week. The Lenovo-owned company announced the Motorola Edge 20 and the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion. The former is one of the lightest and thinnest phones in its class. Both phones have a 108MP primary camera and a high refresh rate display. Motorola India has also confirmed that the Edge 20 Pro will launch later.

Samsung’s Galaxy A-series added two new members last week. While the Galaxy A03s will appeal to those on a constricted budget, the Galaxy A52s 5G is for those with more money to spare but not enough for a flagship. The A52s 5G doesn’t offer much over the Galaxy A52 5G announced back in March but you do get a more powerful processor and new colors to choose from.

iQOO 8 series – a head-turning balance of power and style

The launch of the iQOO 8 series was one of the major highlights of last week. The new smartphones from Vivo’s iQOO come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888+ processor, fast wired and wireless charging, Samsung’s brand new E5 display, and a custom version of OriginOS developed for the sub-brand.

These new phones are not just beasts under the hood, but also feature impressive designs. Alongside custom editions that wear the BMW Motorsport colors, the standard model also has a photochromic version that can switch from silver to bright orange!

Google announced a new Pixel phone, but while it is not the one we are all looking forward to which is the Pixel 6, the new Pixel 5a 5G has been getting a lot of attention since it launched. The mid-range phone takes over from the Pixel 4a 5G as the flagbearer of the Pixel a line. While some key specs have been carried over from last year’s mode, the Pixel 5a 5G brings a significantly bigger battery, an IP67 rating, and a price tag that is $50 cheaper than that of the Pixel 4a 5G. The Pixel 5a 5G will be exclusive to Japan and the U.S.A. but Google did launch a Pixel for the Indian market in form of the Pixel Buds A.

Motorola has now confirmed the Edge 20 will be launched in India on August 17. The Edge 20 will be accompanied by the Edge 20 Fusion!

Recall that the Edge 20 was launched alongside the Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 Lite. However, there are indications that the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion is a rebadged Edge 20 Lite. The major difference is that the Edge 20 Fusion will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC whereas the Edge 20 Lite features a Dimensity 720 SoC.

In other aspects, the Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion will both feature a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The Edge 20 Fusion will support a 90Hz refresh rate while the Edge 20 will support up to a 144Hz refresh rate. The premium model will also arrive with an in-screen fingerprint scanner while the Fusion will utilize a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Motorola Edge 20 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The Edge 20 Fusion will also come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The two smartphones will run Android 11 without any bloatware and Motorola has promised to provide at least 2 major android OS upgrades and 2 years of bi-monthly security updates.
