Motorola appears to be a little more promising this year in terms of software updates. The company began its Android 17 beta program shortly after Google released the first beta in February 2026, and later expanded it to cover over a dozen devices. The list has just got a little longer as Motorola adds three new high-end phones to its Android 17 beta program.

The Motorola Razr+ 2025, Razr+ 2024 (also known as Razr 50 Ultra in several markets), and the Edge 50 Ultra are the three latest Motorola devices participating in the Android 17 beta program, as announced on the official forum. As always, the beta application is open to a limited number of users in select regions.

If you have an eligible Motorola and you live in a supported region, use the correct post link to open the official Android 17 beta post directly. Or, you can visit the official website to find all the current testing opportunities.

How to sign up for Motorola’s Android 17 beta program

Keep in mind that beta builds may have bugs or broken features. It’s best to avoid such builds and wait for a stable release, or at least not install them on a primary device.

Also, ensure that there are no pending updates for your Motorola phone. Go to Settings > System updates > Check for updates to manually check for updates.

Now, follow these steps to sign up for the beta program:

Create an account on Motorola’s community website (if you haven’t already).

Visit the profile page and update your IMEI or serial number (SN) details.

Opt in for MFN on your Motorola community profile.

Open the MFN Beta Testing Opportunities page to see a testing opportunity for your Motorola device.

Tap on the registration link for your Motorola phone.

Fill in the required details and submit your application.

Motorola may send emails containing more details about your beta application. Therefore, remember to check your inbox regularly, including the spam folder.

If your application is approved, Motorola will send you an Android 17 beta update soon. You should receive a notification for this, but it’s better to check for updates manually every few days.

We’ll keep posting the latest developments in the Motorola section. Remember to visit that regularly to stay updated.
Android brands typically roll out software updates in a similar fashion: high-end devices usually receive updates first, followed by mid-range and lower-end models. However, with Motorola, that’s a completely different story.

The brand kicked off its Android 16 rollout with the Edge series phones, and later it expanded the update to the more affordable Moto G lineup. Now, after a long wait, the premium Razr lineup is getting the Android 16 update, starting with the Razr 50 Ultra.

A Reddit user claims that the stable Android 16 update is now available for the Razr 50 Ultra in Japan, as spotted by folks at Ytechb. For now, it appears to be rolling out in Japan only. However, the expansion shouldn’t take more than a few days. If you’re rocking a Razr 50 Ultra anywhere in the world, don’t forget to manually check for updates from the software update section inside the Settings app.

Android 16 is the second major Android upgrade for the Razr 50 Ultra. Motorola promises three major upgrades for this device, so it’ll receive another OS upgrade to Android 17 before it reaches its quota of major updates. However, it will continue to receive security updates at least until mid-2028.

What’s new in Android 16 for the Razr 50 Ultra?

While it’s a major upgrade, you won’t see a lot of visual changes. However, there’s still a host of useful changes and improvements to look forward to, including the new Notification cooldown feature. This feature prevents users from getting annoyed when an app sends too many notifications in a short burst by lowering the volume of incoming notifications from the same app.

The Settings app now features Custom modes, enabling users to create profiles tailored to various activities. The update also introduces a Flash notification feature, which can be configured to flash the camera or screen upon receiving calls and notifications.

Additionally, the update introduces Advanced protection — a suite of security features designed to safeguard the device against various security threats. Furthermore, it brings improvements to compatibility with Bluetooth LE audio devices, Wi-Fi connection, and device stability.

Ruben Castano, Vice President of Customer Experience and Design at Motorola, highlighted the significance of this year’s color and the ongoing collaboration with Pantone, saying:

“Mocha Mousse reinforces the importance of savoring the moment—a reminder to indulge in life’s simple pleasures. Mocha Mousse also inspired us to create a new soft inlay composed of coffee grounds. Its warm and comforting essence embodied the sensory nature of this shade.

“We applied Mocha Mousse to two different devices because this color is incredibly versatile and stylish. This gives our customers more options for connection, joy, and self-expression. We are extremely proud of the products that carry the Pantone Color of the Year 2025 and our multi-year strategic partnership with Pantone.”

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, also shared her thoughts on the collaboration:

“The growing movement to align ourselves more closely with the natural world is exquisitely expressed by Motorola in the devices they created using Pantone Color of the Year 2025. Characterized by its organic nature, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse artfully brings the virtual and physical worlds closer together by introducing an intimacy and sensorial dimension into the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra/Motorola Razr+ and the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, enriching our everyday engagement with our favorite devices.”

A new promo video offering a detailed look at the upcoming Motorola Razr+ 2024 has surfaced online. Leaked by well-known tipster Arsene Lupin, the video sheds light on the design, features, and color options of Motorola‘s latest foldable phone.

While the phone resembles previous models, it has a larger cover display

It’s important to note that the Motorola Razr+ 2024 moniker is specific to the US market. Globally, the phone will be known as the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra. The 30-second video showcases the Razr+ 2024 from various angles, highlighting its design elements and color options. While the phone bears resemblance to previous models, it boasts a larger cover display with slimmer bezels.

The video reveals a green color variant, while the remaining two appear to be red and purple. It’s possible that these colors might differ slightly when the phone launches in the US.

The video briefly mentions “moto ai,” hinting at the integration of artificial intelligence features, a common trend in the smartphone industry. Additionally, the presence of a telephoto camera and water resistance are confirmed. The video also offers a glimpse of the phone’s user interface.

The Motorola Razr+ 2024, or Razr 50 Ultra depending on the market, is expected to be officially unveiled on June 25th in both China and other regions worldwide.

Motorola is gearing up to unveil the Razr 50 series foldable phones on June 25 in China. The standard and ultra models will arrive as the successor to last year’s Razr 40 duo. Now, ahead of the launch event next week, the Razr 50 Ultra has been spotted on Geekbench on Taiwan’s NCC. Both listings reveal key hardware details with the certification site also revealing the upcoming foldable’s design from all angles.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Geekbench and NCC listings

Beginning with Taiwan’s NCC certification, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is listed with the model number XT2451-3. The images of the device reveal a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout display and horizontally placed dual camera sensors along with an LED flash. There is a USB-C port, speaker grille, and microphone at the bottom. The report adds that the Razr 50 Ultra will be available in Peach, Dark Blue, and a rumored Green color.

The certification listing also reveals the model number of the Razr 50 Ultra’s battery, charger, and USB-C cable. The device is expected to be backed by a 4,000mAh battery (1,050 + 2,950mAh cells). It will ship with a 68W fast charger but may support only 45W speed. This is an upgrade compared to the Razr 40 Ultra’s 3,800mAh cell and 30W charging.

Coming to the Geekbench database, the Razr 40 Ultra’s processor configuration includes three cores ticking at 2.02GHz, four cores at 2.8GHz, and a primary core at 3.01GHz. This indicates that the foldable phone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. It will be the first clamshell foldable to be powered by the chipset. The Razr 50 Ultra is listed with 12GB RAM onboard. The device will run on Android 14 OS out of the box.

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra scores 1,829 and 4,214 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra leaked specifications:

Just as the predecessor Moto Razr 40 Ultra, the successor also houses a 6.9 2640 x 1080 resolution flexible pOLED inner display and a 3.6″ cover display.

Unlike the display, the chipset is upgraded from the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 to the newly released Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. According to the leak, it is paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. For those unfamiliar, the Moto Edge Edge 50 Ultra and the recently released iQOO Z9 Turbo also uses this chipset. It equips 1x Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3GHz, 4x Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, and 3x power efficient Cortex-A520 cores.

Another big upgrade is the rear camera system of this phone. The 12MP and 13MP sensors are replaced by 50MP ones. The ultra-wide angle lens is also reportedly replaced by a 2x telephoto. However, the 32MP selfie stays the same as before.

The phone also equips a slightly larger 4000mAh battery as compared to the 3800mAh capacity of its predecessor. It will support both wired and wireless charging.

The water-repellent coating is also replaced by an IPX8 dust and water-resistant rating. The IPX8 means the device can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water. However, it’s not protected from dust. The phone will also offer eSIM support.

This phone will be the company’s first clamshell to sport the Hello UI, a custom skin based on Android 14.

Pricing and availability

The Razr+ 2023 (8GB + 256GB variant) was launched with a price tag of $999. It seems that the price tag will stay the same.

The Razr+ 2024 will be available in three color options: Midnight Blue, Spring Green, and Hot Pink. It will be available in the US for $999 for the 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage variant. You can expect the phone to be launched in June.
