When it comes to aesthetics, the Xiaomi 12S is very interesting because it is one of the most compact flagships, thanks to the presence of a smaller display. The Motorola S30 Pro is bigger and chunkier, but it is still very nice thanks to its curved screen at the edges, like several top-tier flagships. Further, it has a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and it is splash and dust resistant. It is even thinner and lighter than its rival. Which one has the best design? It mostly depends on your tastes: do you prefer a curved screen at the edges or a more compact body with a higher build quality?

Display

On paper, the Xiaomi 12S looks to have a better display in terms of image quality. It has a 6.28-inch panel able to show up to 68 billion colors with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and the HDR10+ certification, as well as the Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The only advantage of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro is the higher 144 Hz refresh rate, but for the rest, it looks inferior. It has a P-OLED display with one billion colors, a Full HD+ resolution, the HDR10+ certification, and a diagonal of 6.55 inches. However, you should note that the 12S is not for everyone due to its small 6.28-inch display. Both devices are equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader, but the Xiaomi 12S is the only one with stereo speakers on board.

Specs & Software

The most powerful processor is mounted on the Xiaomi 12S. It is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, currently the best chipset by Qualcomm, built with a 4 nm production process. It has an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at a frequency of 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A510 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. The SoC is paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. With the Motorola Moto S30 Pro, you actually get a Snapdragon 888 Plus mobile platform by Qualcomm built with a 5 nm production process. It is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but it is not so far. It has an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X1 CPU running at a max frequency of 2.99 GHz, three Cortex A78 CPUs running at 2.42 GHz, four Cortex A55 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 660 GPU. The highest-end memory configuration is the same and both the phones run Android 12 out of the box.

Camera

The camera setup of the Xiaomi 12S is slightly better than the one found on the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. The handset has a triple camera setup including a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, a 13 MP ultrawide camera, a 5 MP telephoto macro lens, and a 32 MP selfie shooter. With the Motorola, you get a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 13 MP ultrawide sensor, a 2 MP depth sensor, and a 32 MP selfie snapper.

Battery

Despite the Xiaomi 12S being a smaller phone, it has a bigger battery than the Motorola S30 Pro. And, given that it has a smaller display and a more efficient chipset, it should last more on a single charge in several scenarios. The wired charging speeds of these two phones are similar, but the Xiaomi 12S is the only one to support wireless charging, with a power of 50W.

Price

The Xiaomi 12S carries a starting price tag of €570/$570 at the actual change, while you need just €330/$330 to purchase the base configuration of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. If we exclude the dimensions and if you like having a compact phone, the Xiaomi 12S wins this comparison, but with a lower value for money.

These two phones come with amazing displays. The Motorola S30 Pro has a 6.55-inch P-OLED panel able to show up to one billion colors with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. The Realme GT Neo 3 has an AMOLED display with a 6.7-inch diagonal, a Full HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification: it is able to show up to one billion colors as well. As you can easily notice, the Realme has a bigger display but a lower refresh rate. Both phones come with an in-display fingerprint reader for authentication, but the Realme GT Neo 3 is the only one with stereo speakers offering an improved audio experience.

If you are looking for a phone offering the highest performance, then you should opt for the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. It is powered by the Snapdragon 888 Plus mobile platform by Qualcomm built with a 5 nm production process. This chipset has an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X1 CPU running at a max frequency of 2.99 GHz, three Cortex A78 CPUs running at 2.42 GHz, four Cortex A78 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 660 GPU. The SoC is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. The Snapdragon 888+ is actually better than the Mediatek Dimensity 8100 found on the Realme GT Neo 3 and paired with up to 12 GB of RAM. Further, the internal storage of the GT Neo3 stops at just 256 GB. Both handsets run Android 12 out of the box, but they are customized by different user interfaces: MYUI 4.0 and Realme UI 3.0, respectively, with the latter being a lot more advanced.

Camera

These two phones are equipped with triple rear cameras including a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, but there is an important difference when it comes to the ultrawide secondary camera, which sports a higher 13 MP resolution on the Motorola S30 Pro. This is the only advantage of this device in terms of camera hardware letting it win the camera comparison. For the rest, these two devices are pretty much the same on the rear side, with a 2 MP macro lens and a 50 MP main sensor. Last but not least, the battery. The Realme GT Neo 3 is available in two variants: one with a 5000 mAh battery supporting 80W fast charging, and another one with a 4500 mAh supporting 150W fast charging. In both cases, you get a bigger battery and faster charging technology. But the 150W variant of the Realme GT Neo3 has more or less the same battery life as the Motorola.

But in order to understand whether or not this is the best flagship killer you can buy, it is worth comparing it to its most important rivals in the current market. Among these, we got the Realme GT 2 released earlier this year: we chose this device because it is currently available at very interesting street prices, so it is a perfect rival for the new Lenovo handset. So, here is a comparison between the main specifications of the Realme GT 2 and the Motorola X30 Pro.

Design

The design of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro is more premium and curated than the Realme GT 2. First of all, this device is thinner, lighter, and more compact than its rival. Further, it comes with a curved screen at the sides, just like the most beautiful flagships. Last but not least, it has a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and it is splash and dust resistant. You can not find any of these pros on the Relame GT 2, but it is still an interesting device because two of its three color options are made with a special bio-polymer resembling the touch and feel of real paper. The display of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro looks better than the one found on the Realme GT 2. It is a P-OLED panel manufactured by LG which is able to show up to one billion colors. It has a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a great 144 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. It comes with a diagonal of 6.55 inches, curved edges, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The Realme GT 2 has an OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and HDR10+ as well, but its refresh rate is lower at just 120 Hz and it is not able to show one billion colors. On the other hand, it is the only one featuring stereo speakers, even though it does not provide a 3.5 mm audio jack. Do you prefer having a better display or better audio on a phone?

Even though these devices are very similar in terms of performance, the Motorola Moto S30 Pro is slightly better. First of all, it has a superior chipset: the Snapdragon 888+ is actually an upgrade of the Snapdragon 888 found on the Realme GT 2. It is a chipset built with a 5 nm production process coming with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X1 CPU running at a max frequency of 2.99 GHz, three Cortex A78 CPUs running at 2.42 GHz, and four Cortex A55 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, as well as an Adreno 660 GPU. The chipset is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, while the Realme GT 2 stops at 256 GB of internal storage in its most expensive configuration. Both handsets run Android 12 out of the box, customized by Realme UI 3.0 and MYUI 4.0, respectively. Note that the GT 2 will get three major Android updates and four years of security patches as per the latest Realme update policies.

Camera

The Realme GT 2 and the Motorola S30 Pro come with the same main camera: a 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensor with a 50 MP resolution, an f/1.8 focal aperture, and OIS. The Motorola actually sports a better ultrawide camera with a 13 MP resolution (against just 8 MP), as well as a better front camera with a 32 MP resolution (against 16 MP). So, we can definitely say that the Motorola S30 Pro has a better camera setup.

Battery

The most important advantage of the Realme GT 2 over its rival is definitely the battery capacity. Thanks to a 5000 mAh battery, it lasts a lot longer on a single charge and its rival is not able to compete in any way, especially if we consider that it has similar specifications but a 4400 mAh battery. The charging technologies are very similar, so expect similar charging speeds, but the Motorola will obviously be quicker to reach full charge due to its smaller battery.

Price

The Motorola S30 Pro starts from €330/$330 in the Chinese market, while the Realme GT 2 can easily be found for less than €400/$400 in the global market. Overall, the Motorola S30 Pro is superior, if we exclude the battery.
