Motorola ThinkPhone 2025: An Essential Business Partner?

Motorola had announced the ThinkPhone for the enterprise market back in 2023. Similar to the ThinkPad, it was built for working professionals, which is reflected in its design. Motorola partnered with Microsoft last year to bring Windows 365 to the ThinkPhone last year, so we can expect this support to return.

First Look at the Business Phone

In a recent report, the renders of the 2025 Motorola ThinkPhone were leaked, offering us the first proper look at the upcoming business smartphone. However, it has a redesigned camera module with its overall form factor being closer to Motorola’s Edge series. The back seems to have a kevlar/carbon fiber styled textured rear panel, while the front has slimmer bezels compares to its predecessor and center aligned punch hole cutout for the selfie camera.

What Specs Does the ThinkPhone 2025 Offer?

Motorola will reportedly launch the next gen ThinkPhone with a 6.36-inch LTPO pOLED display that supports a high refresh rate, 2670 x 1200 resolution (460ppi), which is higher than the 399ppi pixel density on the FHD+ panel of the older model. The dimensions of the new ThinkPhone were also shared in this same report, measuring 154.1 x 71.2 x 8.1mm.

Under the hood, the smartphone is rumored to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC, which is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The company could be planning to launch this device in a single storage configuration. The ThinkPhone 2025 might pack a 4,310mAh battery pack that supports 68W wired fast charging, which is surprising since last year’s model had a larger cell.

For optics, the rear packs a triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary sensor, a 10MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom. After announcing the release of the ThinkPhone by Motorola at CES 2023, Lenovo has confirmed its plans to introduce the smartphone to the US market. The company had previously stated its intention to launch the phone in various regions, including Australia, Europe, the Middle East, the US, and select Asian countries. However, it had not disclosed the official pricing and release date for each region.

Following its launch in the UK with a price tag of £899.99, Lenovo (parent company of Motorola) has decided to offer the ThinkPhone at a more affordable price of US$699.99 in the US market. For photography, the Lenovo ThinkPhone boasts a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with PDAF and OIS for sharp and detailed images. It also has a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera with Macro Vision and a 32MP selfie camera with autofocus. The device is MIL-STD 810H and IP68 certified, making it water-resistant and durable against extreme temperatures and vibrations. During CES 2023, Lenovo finally announced the laptop-inspired Thinkphone by Motorola. The rugged smartphone packs a powerful chipset and comes with a military-grade rating. The phone is reported to be sold only to B2B clients, which is definitely a bummer for those who were eager to try it. However, a popular tipster has claimed that the Thinkphone will also be available for non-business customers in some countries. Here are the details.

Roland Quant says the Thinkphone by Motorola will be sold to non-business consumers as well. However, only folks in “certain” countries would be able to get their hands on the smartphone. Quant didn’t mention the name of the countries or the stores but revealed that the 8/256GB version of the handset will be priced at €999 ($1,080). Apparently, it will be available for purchase by the end of this month.

To recall, the ThinkPhone by Motorola has a rugged design with an aramid fiber-made back panel and aircraft-grade aluminum frames. There’s Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front.

It comes with a 6.6-inch OLED display with a 2400x1080px resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, which is very capable. The processor is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage.

The handset packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. It’s MIL-STD 810H and IP68 certified and packs a 32MP selfie camera with autofocus. On the back, there’s a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with both PDAF and OIS accompanied by a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide with Macro Vision. The smartphone features various interconnectivity features as well.

Motorola has released a tweet to confirm that it will announce the Motorola ThinkPhone during the CES 2023 tech exhibition, which will take place between Jan. 5 and Jan. 8 in Las Vegas. The Lenovo-owned brand has claimed that the ThinkPhone is a “business-grade” smartphone. The image shared by the brand gives a glimpse of its design.

The Motorola ThinkPhone can be seen sporting a textured back. Reports have claimed that the device has an aluminium frame and “aramid fibre inlay” rear shell. A red-colored button can be seen on the edge of the device. The design of the phone is no secret since leaked renders that have surfaced so far have revealed its design from all sides.

The Motorola ThinkPhone is likely to feature a 6.6-inch P-OLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 144Hz refresh rate. The phone will come preloaded with the Android 13 OS. A recent leak revealed that the device will offer productivity-focused features.

The ThinkPhone will come equipped with a 50-megapixel (main, with OIS) +13-megapixel (ultra-wide) +2-megapixel (depth) triple camera unit. For selfies, the device will be equipped with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera with autofocus support.

The ThinkPhone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. It is expected to come in 8 GB and 12 GB RAM variants and 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB storage editions. It is likely to house a 5,000mAh battery that supports 68W fast charging. The ThinkPhone is expected to offer other features, such as 15W wireless charging, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and an IP68-rated body.

At present, there is no word on the Motorola ThinkPhone’s price. While the ThinkPhone will be a business-centric device, there could be a regular version of the phone. The latter could be called the Motorola Edge 40 Fusion.

Earlier this month, Motorola ThinkPhone was spotted in leaked renders along with key specifications. In the past, it had also bagged China’s 3C certification. Now Twitter user SnoopyTech has shared the marketing material of the smartphone. The ThinkPhone is expected to be targeted towards business-centric customers similar to Lenovo’s ThinkPad laptops. The smartphone could come with productivity-focused features and functions. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone in the latest marketing material images has the same design as seen in previously leaked renders. It has a slightly compact form factor with three buttons on the right edge whereas an additional button accentuated in Red colour is located on the top left side of the device. 

As per the latest development, the Motorola ThinkPhone is seen beside a laptop hinting that the phone will work seamlessly with a computing device. We can spot options like connected display, mirror phone, and webcam. Additionally, users will also be able to respond to incoming calls or messages and control music from the laptop. Most of these features are similar to the ones found on Galaxy phones and laptops, courtesy of DeX mode. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone will come with a textured finish on the back panel and an IP rating for water resistance. The back panel has a rectangular camera module housing three sensors. Internally, the device is tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM, 512GB storage and be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 68W charging. It will run on Android 13 OS out of the box. The upcoming offering is expected to feature a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone’s exact launch date remains a mystery. Considering that the device has surfaced online in recent weeks, we can expect it to debut soon.

In October, the Lenovo ThinkPhone was spotted in leaked renders. Now, new information about the smartphone has surfaced online courtesy of reliable tipster OnLeaks in collaboration with publication TechOutlook. The report reveals key specifications of the Motorola ThinkPhone in a series of images. We also get a better look at the device compared to previous render. 

Beginning with the design, the Motorola ThinkPhone has a slightly compact form factor. There are three buttons on the right edge whereas an additional button accentuated in Red colour is located on the top left side of the device. The back panel has a squarish camera module housing 50MP, 13MP, and 2MP sensors along with an LED flash. It also has diagonal stripes and it is called an Aramid Fibre Inlay body as per the report. One of the images reveals that the smartphone will be IP68 dust and water-resistant. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout. It is tipped to feature a 6.6-inch pOLED display bearing a resolution of 1,800 x 2,400 pixels, 144Hz refresh rate, 1,200nits peak brightness, and HDR+ support. The device will have an in-screen fingerprint scanner. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone will come with ‘Ready For’ feature for multi-screen collaboration. It is seen with a 68W Type-C charger (also spotted on 3C) that will likely power up the 5,000mAh battery unit. The device will also reportedly support 15W wireless charging. Other core specifications of the Motorola ThinkPhone are expected to include a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. 

The Motorola ThinkPhone is expected to debut sometime in 2023.
