It is a 6nm SoC with 3GHz Cortex-A78 CPU. Rumors are rife that it could be the MediaTek MT6893 that appeared in recent reports. The chipset is likely to go official at some point this month. Ahead of the launch, the MT6893 has appeared on AnTuTu benchmarks to reveal its performance and key specifications

In the screenshot below, the MT6893 SoC can be seen powering a prototype unit that is mentioned as “alps.” The listing reveals that the chipset features 4 x Cortex-A78 CPU and 4 x Cortex-A55 CPU that clocks up to 3GHz. For graphics, the SOC is equipped with a Mali-G77 MC9. The chipset supports LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and at least a 90Hz refresh rate. The alps device is seen running on Android 11 OS.

The Geekbench listing suggests that the performance of the MT6893 appears to be better than the Dimensity 1000+, which is the most powerful Dimensity chipset currently. A comparison of the MT6893 powered engineered unit and the Snapdragon 865 powered OnePlus 8 shows the performance of the MediaTek chip is close to Qualcomm’s SoC.

The Dimensity 1000+ that was designed to power high-end phones arrived with support for LPPDR4x RAM and UFS 2.0 storage. Hopefully, the Dimensity MT6893 chip will arrive with support for LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. The MT6893 is expected to break soon. At present, it is unclear which company will launch the first MT6893 powered smartphone.

The Taiwan-based company revealed that it is a premium platform that features Cortex-A78 cores that work at 3.0GHz. The company is yet to confirm its final product name and other details. Today, a reliable tipster from China shared the specs of an unannounced MT6893 chipset. The same SoC has also appeared at the Geekbench benchmarking platform. Probably, it could be the same chip that MediaTek is planning to launch soon.

The leak reveals that the MediaTek MT6893 is an octa-core processor that includes a single Cortex-A78 core working at 2.8GHz, a triple Cortex-A78 core ticking at 2.6GHz, and a quad Cortex-A55 core working at 2.0GHz. The SoC is equipped with a Mali-G77 MC9 CPU for handling graphics. These specs suggest that the MT6893 will offer better performance than the existing Dimensity 1000+ chipset.

The tipster claimed that the frequency of the MT6893 is the same as the Exynos 1080 that went official earlier this week. As mentioned above, MediaTek’s upcoming premium chipset can clock up to 3.0GHz. So, there could be two versions of the chipset or its frequency could be increased to 3.0GHz at launch.

The MT6893 chipset’s Geekbench listing reveals that it has scored 4108 in the single-core test and 11,204 in the multi-core test. The listing seems to belong to a testing device that is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and Android 11 OS. The base frequency of the SoC is mentioned as 2.0GHz.

The MediaTek MT6893 is expected to go official before the end of this year. The Taiwanese company is also rumored to be working on another chipset that has a model number MT6891. It is likely that both chipsets may go official together in the coming weeks.

The Taiwanese semiconductor company’s current offering of mobile processors powers several devices announced this year. Its Dimensity series can also be said to have made a significant contribution in pushing 5G phones into the hands of a lot more people.

If you are wondering what new chipsets MediaTek has cooking in its oven, The Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, has revealed some few details of two new processors.

The two chipsets are the MT6893 and MT6891 and they will be 5nm and or 6nm processors according to him. The two chipsets will be high-performance processors as they feature the more powerful Cortex-A78 Arm CPU core.

The Dimensity 1000+ which is currently MediaTek’s most powerful mobile processor has Cortex-A77 cores. It is also a 7nm chip. These new chips should bring significant boosts in performance as they are built on a smaller node and feature a more powerful CPU. They should also launch under the Dimensity series and with built-in 5G modems.

There is no news yet regarding when the new processors will be announced but the leaker says that development is progressing faster than last year’s chips. We expect more details will be revealed in the weeks leading up to their announcements.
