This €399 foldable phone comes with 2630mAh battery, Helio G99 chip, and Android 13

A couple of days back, we reported on a foldable smartphone priced at just €499. This device called Energizer Ultimate U660S from Avenir Telcom was showcased at MWC 2024.

It wasn’t the only affordable phone at the trade show. BlackView, a brand known for rugged smartphones also had its budget foldable on display. We got a chance to experience it briefly.

BlackView Hero 10 is the name of the brand’s first foldable smartphone. Just like other budget foldables, this one is also a clamshell vertical folding phone.

What makes it stand out is its €399 price tag. This makes it even cheaper than the aforementioned Energizer foldable. But there’s no word on its release date yet.

The specs on the two devices are different, however, they have one thing in common. Both of them are powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, which makes them 4G-only handsets.

The Hero 10 flaunts a 6.9-inch centered punch-hole display. The panel offers an FHD+ (2790 x 1188 pixels) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also sports a 60Hz circular cover screen.

The handset arrives with a 108MP primary camera paired with an unspecified secondary sensor. On the front, it has a 32MP snapper.

It arrives in a single 12GB + 256GB memory configuration in multiple colors sporting a vegan leather finish. As for software, it boots outdated Android 13 with a layer of DokeOS 3.1.

Last but not least, the device is backed by a tiny 2,630mAh battery.

Tecno showcased its vision for the future at MWC 2024 with several innovative prototypes, including the highly anticipated Phantom Ultimate. Remember last year, when the company unveiled a rollable phone concept? This concept isn’t just a dream anymore – it’s a real, functioning device.

The screen transition takes only 1.3 seconds, which is commendable

Imagine a phone that transforms at your fingertips. The Phantom Ultimate starts compact, with a 6.55-inch display. But with a simple button press, it expands to a larger 7.11-inch screen, perfect for watching videos or gaming. This ingenious design takes just 1.3 seconds, making it seamless and convenient.

But Tecno’s thinking doesn’t stop there. They’ve even incorporated a “second display” on the back. This is actually the main screen cleverly wrapped around, visible through a protective window. This eliminates the need for a separate screen, maximizing efficiency.

The rise of foldable phones has challenged software, and Tecno seems like it’s doing pretty well in that sector. Their user interface and apps adapt effortlessly as the Phantom Ultimate expands or shrinks, ensuring a smooth user experience regardless of the screen size.

While the Phantom Ultimate is still under development, Tecno already boasts two successful foldable phones: the Phantom V Fold and V Flip. But their engineers aren’t resting. They’ve developed the Borderless Foldable Main Screen, a technique that minimizes bezels for an immersive viewing experience.

Remember that color-changing phone Tecno unveiled last year? The Chameleon Color Technology is back, and this time, it’s integrated into a foldable phone. This technology uses tiny prisms that shift with a magnetic field, offering thousands of color options with minimal power consumption.

Tecno’s innovations extend beyond these concepts. The Tecno Pocket Go is a projector phone, and the Tecno Dynamic 1 boasts a transparent display. These ideas, though not yet ready for consumers, showcase Tecno’s commitment to pushing boundaries and shaping the future of mobile technology. And let’s be honest, they all look pretty cool.

MWC 2024: Google Pixel 8 Series Crowned “Best Smartphone” for 2023

The Google Pixel 8 series has been crowned the “Best Smartphone” at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. This prestigious award recognizes the phone’s innovative features and impressive overall performance. But what exactly makes the Pixel 8 stand out? Let’s take a closer look at its key specifications.

The Pixel 8 retains the familiar design language of previous Pixel phones, but with slightly rounded corners and a smaller footprint. It features a 6.17-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2,000 nits peak brightness, and HDR support. The phone packs a 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP ultrawide sensor, both capable of capturing stunning photos and videos. The Pixel 8 is powered by Google’s Tensor G3 chip, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. It boasts a 4,485mAh battery with support for fast charging and runs Android 14 out of the box.

The Pixel 8 Pro sports a more modern design with a larger 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display offering a higher resolution and brighter peak brightness compared to the Pixel 8. It also boasts a triple-camera system featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro is powered by the same Tensor G3 chip but comes with 12GB of RAM and offers up to 1TB of storage (in the US). It packs a larger 5,050mAh battery but settles for slightly slower wired and wireless charging speeds compared to its smaller sibling.

Both phones share some key features, including the latest Tensor G3 chip, a promise of 7 years of software updates and security patches, and a Titan M2 security chip. It’s clear why Google’s latest flagships have been praised so much. The step up from the previous iterations is noticeable, and more so, huge. Now, all that remains is to see if Google can replicate, or even exceed its success with the Pixel 9 lineup this year.

Samsung is undoubtedly one of the world’s most innovative technology manufacturers. The tech giant competes not only in a specific field but also in every conceivable product category. The latest addition to their lineup is a range of innovative products in the field of wearable technology. Among them, undoubtedly the most intriguing is Botfit, a wearable robot designed to assist those with difficulty walking.

Samsung Botfit Walking Assistant

Botfit is a robot that helps improve the user’s mobility and supports their activities. It is primarily designed for individuals experiencing difficulty walking due to reasons such as neurological diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, or aging. Samsung aims to enable people in these and similar categories to lead a more comfortable and independent life.

The product development stage for Botfit has been completed, and it is expected to enter mass production in the second or third quarter of this year, with a release anticipated in the last quarter of the year or early 2025. Initially, it is planned to produce fewer than 100,000 units.

Galaxy Ring

One of Samsung’s other surprises is the eagerly awaited Galaxy Ring. Thanks to the tech giant, faces that have been accessories or symbols of loyalty for many of us are now smart. The fundamental goal of the Galaxy Ring is to track sleep and health data. According to the company’s statement, the ring will offer up to 9 days of usage on a single charge and is resistant to water and dust with its IP68 certification.

Of course, one of the most functional aspects, like other wearable smart devices, is notifications. The Galaxy Ring will notify you of incoming calls, messages, and notifications with vibrations. Although it’s uncertain if everyone wants a vibration on their finger every time they receive an email, we are sure it’s important for some. Additionally, it will have functions such as music control, presentation control, and interaction with voice assistants. The price of the Galaxy Ring has not been officially announced yet, but it is expected to be released in the fall.

Samsung Galaxy XR

Apple recently made a significant impact worldwide with its Vision Pro, which it launched a short while ago. People in many countries, including the United States, can be seen everywhere with this Mixed Reality headset. Of course, Samsung didn’t hesitate to respond, showcasing a headset named XR at MWC 2024.

The product was developed in collaboration with Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. Although we may not know all the details, we can say that it will come with a micro OLED display and, in addition to 8 cameras, will feature a ToF sensor. Like the Vision Pro, it can be controlled through eye movements, voice commands, or hand gestures. There is no official price information available yet, but it is expected to be unveiled towards the end of the year and released in 2025.

Avenir Telcom unveiled the Energizer P28K rugged smartphone with a humongous 28,000mAh battery at MWC 2024. The company had already teased the announcement of this product earlier.

In addition to this phone, Avenir took the wraps off an interesting device called Energizer Ultimate U660S. It is the company’s first clamshell foldable smartphone.

Unlike other vertical foldable phones, this one has a bizarre set of specs, like an entry-level MediaTek chip and 4G-only mobile connection.

Energizer Ultimate U660S Specifications

The device sports a 6.67-inch centered punch-hole vertical folding OLED display. The panel has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+).

It also has an external screen near the camera module. However, we don’t have info on its size and resolution.

Under the hood, the handset houses a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC. This chipset is usually found inside budget smartphones.

Anyways, the chip is paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. On the software front, the phone ships with Android 14.

As for cameras, the device uses a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide unit, and a 25MP front-facing snapper.

Finally, the handset is backed by a tiny 3,400mAh battery despite being an Energizer-branded product.

Energizer Ultimate U660S Price

The Energizer Ultimate U660S is currently the most affordable foldable smartphone with a price tag of just €499. However, it will be on sale only from November.

A lot can happen over the next 9 months. Perhaps, a better product at the same price may be released as well.

Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G, Camon 30 Pro 5G launched with 144Hz AMOLED display, Dimensity 8200 Ultra, and three 50MP cameras

The Tecno Camon 30 series of smartphones is now official. The lineup includes the Camon 30 and Camon 30 5G, which are powered by the Helio G99 and Dimensity 7020 chipsets, respectively. The series also includes the Camon 30 Pro 5G and Camon 30 Premier 5G, which are equipped with the more powerful Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset. The entire lineup has been showcased at MWC 2024.

Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G

The Camon 30 Premier 5G and the Camon 30 Pro 5G feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel that supports a 144Hz refresh rate. While the Pro model lacks support for LTPO, the Premier variant has support for it. The Premier model’s screen offers a 1.5K resolution of 1264 x 2780 pixels, whereas the Pro edition offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels.

Both smartphones feature the Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset. While the Camon 30 Pro 5G comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of built-in storage, the Premier edition offers 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of native storage. The latter also offers up to 12 GB of virtual RAM.

The Camon 30 Premier and Camon 30 Pro 5G pack a 5,000mAh battery with 70W fast charging support. Both phones run on Android 14, which has a layer of HiOS 14 on top. In addition, they offer an IR blaster, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

The Camon 30 Premier and Pro models have a 50-megapixel camera with autofocus and a dual LED flash on the front. The two smartphones mainly differ in the rear camera department. Both phones have a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera with OIS support and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. The Pro variant has a 2-megapixel depth sensor as the third camera on the back, whereas the Premier edition offers a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 70mm focal length and up to 60x hybrid zoom support. The Premier model also features Tecno’s PolarAce Imaging System, a dedicated ISP, that offers features like AI noise reduction for HDR videos, 4K Ultra Night Vision videos, and rendering accurate skin tones.

Nubia Neo 2 5G gaming smartphone with shoulder triggers & $199 price tag unveiled at MWC 2024

At MWC 2024, ZTE introduced a bunch of new devices including the Nubia Pad 3D II, the Nubia Music phone, and the Nubia Flip 5G clamshell smartphone. Other than these devices, the brand has also unveiled the standout Nubia Neo 2 5G, aimed at gamers looking for high-quality features without breaking the bank.

Nubia Neo 2 5G smartphone specs:

The Neo 2 5G sports a 6.72-inch 2400 X 1080p screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, offering clear and smooth visuals. And for sound, it has stereo speakers and DTS:X Ultra audio.

The device is built for long gaming sessions, featuring a large 6,000 mAh battery and 33W fast charging. It also introduces dual gaming shoulder triggers for better control, customizable to fit any player’s needs.

Although the exact CPU hasn’t been revealed, the phone will be powered by a 2.7GHz processor. Storage-wise, the Nubia Neo 2 5G offers up to 256 GB and includes a unique ’20 GB dynamic RAM’ feature for improved performance. Despite these features, ZTE plans to sell the phone starting at $199, significantly lower than many competitors, making it an attractive option for gamers on a budget.

The brand has yet to reveal some features like the display type, processor, and camera details. We can expect these details to be revealed in the coming months. If we look at its predecessor, the Nubia Neo 5G, it features a Full HD+ ISP LCD panel and a Unisoc T820 SoC. It has two cameras on the back, a main 50-megapixel sensor, and an auxiliary 2-megapixel sensor. As for the front camera, the Neo 5G launched with an 8-megapixel sensor.

MWC 2024: TECNO Camon 30 Premier 5G Showcased

MWC 2024 is in full swing till February 29 in Barcelona, Spain. A host of brands have already announced their products including some innovative ones. Tecno also revealed the Pocket Go (hands-on) handheld console and POVA 6 Pro. The company showcased the Camon 30 Premier 5G smartphone. It will arrive as the successor to the Camon 20 Premier 5G.

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G has a flat frame and the back panel seems to have a faux leather-texture with a folder icon design. The device sports a circular protruding module housing three cameras including a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor and a 70mm portrait periscope lens. It offers up to 60x hybrid zoom. The smartphone will have a 50MP front-facing selfie snapper with eye-tracking technology.

Tecno says that the Camon 30 Premier 5G will be the first phone to feature its PolarAce Imaging system. It is powered by the Sony Imaging Chip CXD5622GG and packs various AI imaging advancements. The smartphone is said to offer the industry’s first 4K 30fps HDR video recording.

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G has a center-aligned punch-hole display bearing a 1.5K resolution. It features an LTPO screen with 1 billion colors and a 1,400 nits peak brightness. Internally, the Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G is confirmed to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra processor. This will be paired with the Sony Imaging chip.

Tecno did not reveal the rest of the details of the Camon 30 Premier 5G. The smartphone is slated to release in the second quarter of this year which means we can expect it during the April to June period.

TECNO Pocket Go Hands on: 200-inch Gaming Experience in your Pocket

Day one at MWC 2024 Barcelona was exciting, as we got to go hands on with a lot of beautiful and innovative gadgets. The devices that are exhibited at the event, show us what to expect in the coming months in terms of technological innovation. Among the various booths we got to visit, we found something really interesting at TECNO’s 2024 MWC booth.

No, I am not talking about the TECNO Dynamic 1— the robot dog. I agree that the robot looked innovative (much like the Xiaomi robot dog), but there was another interesting device, tucked in the corner of the booth. This was a portable gaming controller with an AR headset.

Obviously, I had to go and try it out to see what the fuss was about.

Before I talk about my hands on experience, let me give you some background on the product.

What is the TECNO Pocket Go?

The TECNO Pocket Go is a handheld gaming device set featuring a controller that houses powerful gaming hardware and companion AR glasses that act as the display. It is lightweight and easy to carry around. In fact, TECNO claims it is the world’s first gaming set that combines a Windows handheld with AR glasses. To put it simply, TECNO has added the hardware of a gaming handheld into a controller style device, which is then connected to the AR glasses.

With the two devices combined, you can practically start gaming from anywhere you want. Be it a simple bean bag, your sofa, or even a subway station (of course, not recommended)!

Let’s take a closer look at each of the two parts of the Pocket Go, to better understand how they work together.

Pocket Go Controller

The Pocket Go handheld is slightly heavier device than a regular controller. Like any other handheld, it contains all the hardware for running a full-fledged PC. But TECNO claims it is 50% smaller and 30% lighter than standard gaming handhelds, with a form factor, similar to a smartphone. Presumably, the lack of an integrated display contributes to this ergonomic advantage.

TECNO reveals the hardware inside is the newest game CPU with eight cores, sixteen threads, and turbo speeds of up to 5.1 GHz. A PC-Level Large Cooling Fan and three copper lines further help the Pocket Windows Handheld get rid of heat effectively, which leads to its amazing performance of up to 35W. With a 50Wh battery that can be replaced, gamers can enjoy a long battery life that lets them play games without stopping.

While I was at the booth, I could see the staff members quickly swap the batteries on board to continue the gaming experience for the attendees. Unfortunately, I still don’t know how long each battery lasts with regular gameplay.

Pocket Go Vision AR Glasses

The companion to this handheld is the AR Pocket Vision headset.

The 0.71-inch Micro-OLED screen on Pocket Go’s AR Pocket Vision headset makes it feel like you are watching a 215-inch TV from six meters away when you wear it. The small device gives players a wide view and a quality viewing experience that feels like being in a movie theater. The headset also has diopter settings that can be changed up to 600° to accommodate users with different visual needs. So you can remove your prescription glasses and adjust the screen in each eye for the perfect viewing experience.

TECNO Pocket Go Hands on Experience

Enough about the specs, let’s talk about the experience now.

The TECNO Pocket Go handheld is comfortable to hold and has enough width to get a really good hands on feel. While I am not a gamer, my colleagues from our Chinese review team, Paco and Will, who are avid gamers, tried out the device, and approves the design. The buttons and the joystick were comfortable to navigate the gameplay, and the experience felt quite intuitive.

While the handheld device is the real brain of the Pocket Go, what really drives the gameplay experience is the Pocket AR Vision headset. It would only be slightly bigger than your traditional glasses, and come in an all black, stylish finish. TECNO staff added that in the future, you would have the option to completely cover the glasses to block out the surroundings for an even better gaming experience.

In the demo, I could play Cyberpunk 2077, and the gameplay as well as the sound experience felt immersive. It took me a while to adjust to the large screen, possibly due to the adjustments I had to make to the screens for my prescription numbers. However, within a few seconds, my eyes got used to the large screen. So in less than a minute, I was invested in the game, which had good quality visuals and smooth graphics rendering.

TECNO Pocket Go: Final Thoughts

I can see how such portable AR gaming headsets could gain popularity in the coming months. Its like carrying a 200-inch screen for your gameplay, right in your pocket. Now, you see why this is called the TECNO Pocket Go!

While TECNO is marketing this as a gaming handheld AR headset, the practical applications of such a device are endless. You have enough power in the handheld to make it a portable workstation as well, something that you might have already seen in the Apple Vision headset. With the right accessories, I am expecting a lot of different applications for such a device.

Honor, along with dozens of different companies from around the world, showcased its latest products and services at the event. In fact, the company’s CEO, George Zhao, took the stage for a panel discussion titled “Putting Humans First in AI Development: Key Considerations for Creating AI for Smart Devices.” Zhao discussed the company’s future vision centered around artificial intelligence and 6G. Here are the details…

Honor Illuminates the Future of AI in Smart Devices at MWC

According to George Zhao, Honor’s AI strategy focuses on providing solutions that prioritize users’ needs and simplify their daily lives. The first step in this direction is “Platform-Level AI.” The company aims to deliver a consistent and intuitive AI experience across all its devices by integrating artificial intelligence into the MagicOS operating system. This approach allows AI to predict and offer proactive suggestions based on users’ needs and intentions.

One of the other important topics emphasized by Zhao is sectoral collaboration. The CEO of Honor stated that they aim to pioneer an open ecosystem to promote AI innovation and are open to collaborating with other leading companies in the industry. Zhao said, “By promoting open collaboration, we are creating artificial intelligence experiences on devices for the benefit of consumers.”

Honor and GSMA have also published a technical review titled “6G Terminal Vision” summarizing the future of 6G at MWC. This document addresses not only the exciting opportunities presented by 6G and artificial intelligence but also the complex challenges involved. Nine possible scenarios, five key research directions, and four typical capabilities are detailed. The vision aims to create a human-centric smart world, and Honor invites industry partners to collaborate in realizing this vision.

TCL, the Chinese electronics manufacturer, has broadened its smartphone range with the introduction of the 50 Series lineup. First unveiled at CES 2024, TCL shared more details about these devices at MWC Barcelona, including their pricing and availability.

TCL 50 series specifications

A notable feature of the 50 Series is the inclusion of TCL’s NXTPAPER display technology in two models: the TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G and the TCL 50 XE NXTPAPER 5G.

TCL claims this technology brings the benefits of e-ink displays, known for their paper-like quality and reduced glare, to standard smartphone screens. This aims to minimize eye strain for users.

In addition to the NXTPAPER models, the TCL 50 Series includes five other smartphones— TCL 50 XL 5G, 50 XE 5G, 50 5G, 50 SE 5G, and the budget-friendly TCL 50 LE 5G.

The TCL 50 XL 5G and 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G are essentially the same smartphones, differing only in the inclusion of NXTPAPER technology. Price

In terms of pricing, TCL aims to position the TCL 50 LE 5G as a super-budget option at around $100. The TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G will be priced under $229, while the non-NXTPAPER TCL 50 XL 5G will remain under $169.

Similarly, the standard TCL 50 XE 5G will be offered under $149, and the NXTPAPER version will be priced under $199.

The standard TCL 50 XL 5G is set to arrive at Metro by T-Mobile in Q2 2024, with the NXTPAPER model launching on TCL’s website in Q3 2024. Both TCL 50 XE variants are also scheduled to launch in Q3 2024.

Honor plans to increase its global presence to 50% in next 3 years

In the first quarter of 2023, Honor was the only Chinese brand to witness increased market share outside mainland China. Almost a year later, the brand has now revealed how much growth it saw throughout the year.

At the same time, the company also disclosed its growth forecast for 2024. It has even set an ambitious target for the coming years.

Followed by new product announcements at MWC 2024, Honor held a discussion with the media to which GizmoChina was invited. During this interaction, the company’s CEO George Zhao revealed some interesting tidbits.

He disclosed that Honor’s smartphone sales grew more than 200% in the EU in 2023. The brand predicts 100% growth in 2024.

The executive said that the company will utilize AI technology to drive growth. He claims that the intent-based UI found in MagicOS 8.0 is the future.

Further, Honor’s partnership with Meta and Google will bring on-device AI models. The brand’s latest Magic 6 Pro premium slab smartphone already has a working demo of Meta’s Llama 2 LLM (Large Language Model).

Most importantly, Honor aims to increase its global phone sales to over 50% of its total sales in the next 3 years. Currently, this figure sits at 20%.

Mr. Zhao did not reveal how the company plans to achieve this. We believe the brand may double down on its presence in key markets like LATAM (Latin America) and MEA (Middle East and Africa) with affordable X series handsets and mid-range number series phones.

Finally, Honor also wants to compete with Apple and Samsung in the premium segment. This is no surprise as the company is acting as a replacement for its former parent Huawei in global markets. After a three-year hiatus, OnePlus is making a comeback in the smartwatch segment. The brand has announced its second-generation smartwatch called the OnePlus Watch 2. It seems that OnePlus is becoming serious with the latest offering. The OnePlus Watch 2 packs significant upgrades over its predecessor. It aims to go up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series and the Pixel Watch 2.

The OnePlus Watch 2 retains the circular dial with a thick casing. It boasts a stainless steel unibody and sapphire crystal protection for a premium finish. There is a protrusion on the right side housing a rotating dial and a physical button. The smartwatch is also military-grade MIL-STD 810H certified for durability. It is IP68-rated water-resistant up to 50 meters.

The OnePlus Watch 2 features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display bearing a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a peak brightness of 600 nits.

On the fitness front, the OnePlus Watch 2 is equipped with a heart-rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, VO2 Max, and menstrual cycle tracker. It is capable of monitoring the sleep patterns and stress levels. The wearable device packs support for more than 100 sports modes. There is a built-in dual-frequency GPS for outdoor activities. This is a massive upgrade over the RTOS-based original OnePlus Watch that made it nothing more than a glorified fitness band.

The OnePlus Watch is backed by a 500mAh battery unit that is claimed to deliver 100 hours of usage. This makes it the longest WearOS-running smartwatch on a full battery. It also supports 7.5W fast charging.

The OnePlus Watch 2 comes in Black Steel and Radiant Steel colors. In India, it carries a price tag of Rs 24,999. The smartwatch costs $299.99 in the US, €329 in the EU, and £299 in the UK. The OnePlus Watch 2 goes on sale starting March 4 with pre-orders from today.

Alongside announcing the POVA 6 Pro, the brand has also unveiled a handheld console called the Pocket Go. The USP of this device is that it takes a different approach to handheld gaming. TECNO claims that the Pocket Go is the world’s first AR gaming set.

The TECNO Pocket Go comprises a wireless controller and a pair of AR glasses called AR Pocket Vision. The system is designed to work with AR glasses. This is the first we are hearing in the gaming industry and more specifically the handheld console segment that is gaining traction in recent times. The Pocket Go is based on Windows.

The wireless controller simply looks like an Xbox with similar button placements and a D-Pad. TECNO says that the Pocket Go is 50 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter compared to other Windows handheld consoles like ASUS ROG Ally.

Under the hood, the TECNO Pocket Go is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840 HS processor clocked at 5.1GHz. It packs 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. The device has a 50Wh replaceable battery unit. There is also a heat dissipation system comprising of a cooling fan and three copper heat pipes. The AR Pocket Vision and Windows handheld can also work as a workstation by connecting to other TECNO devices.

Tecno POVA 6 Pro specs and features

The Tecno POVA 6 Pro has a semi-transparent back panel with a lithography precision texture underneath it. The device retains the LED light strip design from its predecessor. The Tecno POVA 6 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display bearing an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is integrated with a fingerprint scanner. It has a 32MP front-facing selfie snapper. On the optics front, the smartphone has triple rear cameras. The setup comprises of a 108MP primary sensor with an in-sensor zoom for 10x shots, a 2MP depth lens, and an AI unit.

Under the hood, the Tecno POVA 6 Pro is equipped with a Dimensity 6080 processor. It packs 8GB and 12GB RAM options with virutal RAM technology. There is 256GB onboard storage. Samsung has officially revealed its Galaxy Ring smart ring at Mobile World Conference 2024. Initially teased during Samsung’s Unpacked event in January, the Galaxy Ring is a health and wellness-focused wearable designed to take on competitors like the Oura Ring.

Features and Design

While Samsung initially shared a few details about the Galaxy Ring, the company has now provided more information. The ring features a minimalist yet substantial design and will be available in platinum silver, gold, and ceramic black color options.

According to TheVerge, the ring feels light when worn and comes in sizes 5 to 13, labeled S to XL inside. The battery size also varies depending on the ring size, ranging from 14.5mAh to 21.5mAh.

The Galaxy Ring will include a suite of sensors for tracking various health metrics. While Samsung has yet to reveal the Galaxy Ring’s full sensor suite, they are partnering with Natural Cycles for fertility tracking, mirroring a key feature of the Oura Ring.

You can also expect the usual health features like sleep tracking, heart rate tracking, step counts, and breathing patterns. Samsung says users will also receive personalized health advice based on their sleep data.

Another unique feature is Samsung’s “My Vitality Score,” designed to measure alertness and provide insights into the wearer’s overall readiness. Feedback will come through “Booster Cards” with science-based tips incorporating sleep and other health data.

Availability, Pricing, and Compatibility

The Galaxy Ring will integrate with the existing Samsung Health ecosystem, including Galaxy Watch devices. While exact pricing remains unknown, the ring is scheduled for release later this year.

Initially, the Galaxy Ring will be compatible exclusively with Samsung Galaxy smartphones. However, Samsung plans to expand compatibility to other Android devices and potentially iOS devices in the future.

MWC 2024: Lenovo unveils ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 with major focus on repairability

Lenovo is giving its popular ThinkPad T series a major update with the release of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5. This isn’t just about a new processor; Lenovo is focusing on repairability again with this generation of ThinkPad T laptops.

The ThinkPad T490 from 2019 moved away from the easy repairability of its predecessor, the T480. Lenovo is bringing back that feature with the T14 Gen 5, which stands out for its emphasis on repairability and updated design.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 Specifications

The laptop comes with a 120 Hz OLED screen, boasting improved brightness (up to 400 cd/m²) and reduced power consumption for the standard WUXGA display options, thanks to a new optical film.

Visually, the T14 Gen 5 looks like any other ThinkPad with a slim bezel, a reverse notch webcam configuration, and the signature ThinkPad logo in an embossed black finish.

But the keyboard has been redesigned with swapped FN/Ctrl keys, a Windows Co-Pilot key/menu key, and tactile markings for easier navigation.

In a nod to its older counterpart, the T480, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 includes two SO-DIMM slots, allowing for a maximum of 64GB of user-replaceable DDR5 RAM.

Lenovo has also redesigned the battery to be a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), meaning users can replace it themselves. This change was made possible by using a click-in connector instead of standard cabling within the laptop’s design.

Not only the battery and RAM, but the SSD and WWAN are also user-replaceable. There are also visual indicators that have been added for easier repairs.

With support from the iFixit team, Lenovo says it has also developed new repair guides, including video procedures, for all CRU parts. As a result of all this, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 has secured an iFixit repairability score of 9.3 out of 10.

Processor options for the T14 Gen 5 include Intel Core Ultra with Meteor Lake H and Ryzen 8040U. Unlike its predecessor, there is no dedicated Nvidia GPU option. New features include optional WiFi 7 and Sub6 5G/LTE.

Price

Lenovo plans to start shipping the Intel-based ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 in April, with a starting price of $1,200. The AMD version will follow slightly later in May, starting at $950.

As per the teaser shared by the Xiaomi executive, the company is gearing up to launch its products in the global markets. This is after multiple events in China in recent months where a host of devices got announced. The teaser does not explicitly reveal the names of the devices at the upcoming MWC. However, it does mention ‘Human x Car x Home’ smart ecosystem hinting that the brand may announce devices in these product categories.

The teaser image reveals five products seemingly made up of Lego bricks. These include a smartphone, car, tablet, smartwatch, and a vacuum cleaner. The Xiaomi 14 series is already confirmed to debut on February 25. The car is none other than the Xiaomi SUV 7 which was announced in last December. As for the smartwatch, it is expected to be the Xiaomi Watch 2 which leaked out earlier today.

The details about the tablet and vacuum cleaner remain a mystery. The former could be one of the Xiaomi Pad 6 variants i.e. Pro or Max. The standard model is already available in Europe and other global markets.

Mobile World Congress (MWC) is set to commence from February 26 this year in Spain, Barcelona. A host of brands are set to showcase their devices with innovative technologies. Now, HMD Global has confirmed its presence at the upcoming tech exhibition. Over the last few weeks, we have been learning details via rumors about HMD’s first smartphone. The NokiaMobile account was also renamed to HMD.

HMD confirms MWC event

HMD sent out an official media invite (via) for the upcoming event. It is set to take place on February 25, Sunday at 12:30 pm CET at MWC Barcelona. The invite poster says that ‘Something new is coming’. HMD is also promising to shed light on the company’s fascinating new future. Previously, HMD had also confirmed that they will reveal details about several new license agreements and significant brand collaborations. The company is widely expected to launch new smartphones under its brand.

HMD aims to make phones that are durable, fun, fast, secure, and affordable. Leaked promotional images of the company’s first phone reveal it in colorful options. Additionally, it also confirmed a 108MP primary camera with OIS support. The design gives us Nokia Lumia vibes. As per Evan Blass, six phones are tipped to be in the pipeline codenamed Pulse, Legend, Pulse+, Legend Plus, Pulse Pro, and Legend Pro.

As per a recent report, nine HMD phones also surfaced on the IMEI database confirming their existence but not revealing any key details. We should learn more information about HMD phones in the coming weeks leading up to the MWC event.
