<p>Just a while back, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-13/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 13</a> series was officially announced in the Chinese market. However, the company might be planning on releasing these models for the global regions soon, along with the unveiling of its premium flagship model, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-13s-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">13S Ultra</a> as well.</p>

<p>Earlier today (10th January 2023), the Chinese tech giant announced that the Xiaomi 13 series, which includes the base and higher end Pro variant, will launch globally during the MWC 2023 event. For those unaware, MWC or Mobile World Congress is a major conference where various brands take the stage to announce their new products, mainly smartphones and related technologies. This The upcoming event will also be hosted in Barcelona. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="576" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1-576x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi" class="wp-image-507711" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1-696x1237.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1-236x420.jpg 236w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Xiaomi-13-Ultra-launch-768x1365-1.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px" /></figure></div>

<p>The company recently shared a teaser image poster, in which revealed the brand revealed that it plans to announce new technologies during MWC 2023 Barcelona. However, Xiaomi didn&#8217;t clearly specify what these new technologies actually are. Although, it is also rumored that the company will be announcing its Ultra model as well during this event. For those unaware, the brand usually releases a new flagship phone later in the year following the release of its high end numbered series of smartphones. </p>

<p>Last year, it was the Xiaomi 12S Ultra that was unveiled after the 12 series release. So we can expect the 13S Ultra to launch as its successor. This model will likely feature a new Leica camera technology, which was the focus of the last gen phone. Finer details are still unclear, although, we can expect the device to feature 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate display, Android 13 OS out of the box, possibly Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.</p>

If you missed out, here is your chance to get brought up to speed.</p>
<p><strong><br />
Essential is now a part of Nothing; you too can own (a part of )Nothing</strong></p>
<p>Carl Pei&#8217;s <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/nothing">Nothing</a> has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/15/essential-inc-has-been-acquired-by-nothing/">acquired the trademarks</a> of Andy Rubin&#8217;s dead company, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/essential">Essential Inc</a>. Details of the acquisition first surfaced on Monday before Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/17/carl-pei-confirms-nothings-acquisition-of-essential-inc-reaches-18-million-in-registered-interest-from-the-public-in-24-hours/">confirmed the news later in the week</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-371441 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Nothing-Essential-e1613944978208.jpg?x10805" alt="Nothing + Essential" width="685" height="242" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Nothing-Essential-e1613944978208.jpg 685w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Nothing-Essential-e1613944978208-300x106.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px" /></p>
<p>Nothing also opened up investment into the company to the general public. The new startup is offering $1.5 million worth of shares to interested community members, allowing them to own a part of the company before it goes public. In just 24 hours after its announcement, the company had recorded registered interest valued at over $18 million from over 14,000 individuals.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>POCO India goes Mad with its rebranding</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/POCO">POCO</a> India has announced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/18/poco-india-has-a-new-logo-and-a-made-of-mad-mascot/">it is rebranding</a> barely more than a year since the Xiaomi-owned brand became an “independent company”. The company unveiled a new logo alongside a mascot last week that it says is “Made of Mad”.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><strong>First look at Android 12</strong></p>
<p>Several devices eligible for the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a> update are yet to get it but that is not Google&#8217;s concern. The tech giant has released the first developer preview (DP1) of the next version which will be released later this year as <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android-12">Android 12</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-372359" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min.jpg?x10805" alt="android 12 features" width="1600" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min.jpg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-12-features-min-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>Those who have gotten have shared <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/21/android-12-features/">some of the new features</a> that we should expect when the stable version is released later this year. If your device won&#8217;t be getting Android 12, that is a bummer, but you can download one of the new wallpapers <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/12/android-12-wallpaper-download/">here</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>GSMA wants you to attend MWC Barcelona 2021</strong></p>
<p>The GSMA says this <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/18/mwc-barcelona-2021-is-going-to-be-an-in-person-event-with-several-safety-measures/">year&#8217;s edition of MWC Barcelona will be an in-person event</a> and not an all-digital one like CES 2021. Last year, the association had to cancel the event as several manufacturers pulled out due to the pandemic.</p>
<p>Rather than settle for an all-digital event, the plan is to have an in-person event with several safety measures put in place. What&#8217;s our advice? Stay at home!!!</p>

<p><strong>Motorola unveils a handful of budget phones</strong></p>

The annual pilgrimage by tech enthusiasts to Las Vegas, Nevada didn&#8217;t happen as folks had to follow the multiple-day event from their homes, as a result of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. You would think the GSMA will go the same route for this year&#8217;s edition of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/MWC">MWC</a> Barcelona but that will not be the case.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-344049" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Mobile-World-Congress.jpg?x10805" alt="Mobile World Congress" width="720" height="417" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Mobile-World-Congress.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Mobile-World-Congress-300x174.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Mobile-World-Congress-696x403.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>MWC Barcelona is scheduled for June this year (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/23/gsma-reshuffles-mwc-2021-dates-barcelona-event-moved-to-late-june/">no longer the first quarter of the year</a>) and the organizers are preparing for an in-person event rather than an all-digital one. To manage the event and minimize the risk of attendees getting sick, the organizers are cutting back on the number of attendees from 100,000 to 50,000. Those who attend will also be required to have taken a COVID-19 test 72 hours before their arrival.</p>
<p>Other measures include requiring attendees to wear masks; social distancing via control of crowd density, stand capacity, and traffic flow; touchless registration and information points; and regular disinfection of stands, product samples, and audio-visual equipment. There is a special <a href="https://www.mwcbarcelona.com/attend/safety-security">page</a> on safety standards for the event that you should check out if you plan to attend.</p>
<p>Prior to the adjustment of the date, MWC Barcelona is usually held between late February and early March. Last year, the event had to be canceled after several manufacturers <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/10/sony-amazon-and-nvidia-withdraw-from-mwc-2020-due-to-rising-concerns-of-coronavirus-outbreak/">withdrew due to the pandemic</a>. It remains to be seen if manufacturers will be willing to take the risk this year even with the strict measures the organizers plan to put in place.</p>
<p>MWC Barcelona 2021 is scheduled to begin on June 28 and run till July 1. While it is still months away, MWC Shanghai will kick off next week, beginning on February 23 and running till February 25. This too will be an in-person event.</p>

<p>The new dates announced by the GSMA <a href="https://www.gsma.com/newsroom/press-release/gsma-announces-date-changes-for-its-mwc21-series/">in a press release</a> informed us that MWC Shanghai, which used to take place in June, will now hold in February, while MWC Barcelona moves to June. The Barcelona event was originally scheduled for the first week of March 2021. Below are the exact dates for the events in 2021:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>MWC Shanghai: February 23 &#8211; February 25</strong></li>
<li><strong>MWC Barcelona: June 28 &#8211; July 1</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>*MWC Los Angeles remains unchanged with this year&#8217;s edition set to take place between October 28 to October 30.</p>
<p>The GSMA says the decision to move the Barcelona event to June is so as to deal with external circumstances related to COVID-19. The decision was also taken after planning and consultation with all key stakeholders. The Director-General of the GSMA, Mats Granryd, has said that “the health and safety of exhibitors, attendees, staff and the people of Barcelona are of paramount importance”.</p>
<p>MWC Barcelona is one of the biggest tech events in the world. The tech show is a platform for exhibitors to show off new technologies. A lot of phone manufacturers also use the platform to announce new products. It remains to be seen if these products will still be unveiled in the first quarter of the year at individual events or if they will be delayed so that they can be announced at MWC Barcelona.</p>
