Last month, Blackview released its new flagship series BV9800 which initially debuted on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. After successfully raising $532,928.62 in funds, the BV9800/Pro are now available through Blackview’s official store, Indiegogo and Aliexpress too.

The killer feature of the BV9800 Pro is its thermal imaging function and most people are fascinated by it as it lets you see, measure heat and take awesome IR pictures. It is different than the traditional thermal camera as the Chinese manufacturer integrates FLIR® Lepton® thermal imaging camera into the BV9800 Pro, so you can carry it with you wherever you go.

Today, Blackview released a video showing how to use the thermal imaging feature. As you can see, the operation is simple and similar to a normal camera. Just tap the MyFLIR app on the device to get started. It sports 4 modes: Photo, Video, YouTube Live (for live streaming), and Time-lapse. Also, you can see the difference in temperature in real-time.

The MyFLIR app also allows you to thermally tune level and span, adjust parameters, and much more. To be specific, the shape of a cross, as shown in the video, displays the spot temperature, and it can be moved to detect the temperature of different points. The shape of a square can measure the average temperature of the enclosed area which can be reduced or enlarged in equal proportion.

And there are 9 different color palettes. Generally, the “Icon” color scheme is the most commonly used. But don’t worry about what color mode you are in. You can always go back and change the colors after you take a picture.

It seems that the Blackview BV9800 Pro is a cool device to have fun with but it’s much more than that. It is very useful for both indoor and outdoor use: You can detect leaks, thermal insulation problems, hot wires, etc in a building but you can also use it to look for animals (or people) in the woods even on the darkest night.
