This reveal had garnered a lot of attention due to its vast applications in multiple fields like healthcare, finance, retail, and more. Now, the company has offered us a glimpse into banking in the future with its recent collaboration with South Korean financial firm Shinhan Bank.

According to a SamMobile report, the South Korean tech giant has just announced its partnership with Shinhan Bank to offer NEON artificial humans as its customer’s personal tellers and financial advisors. In a newly shared video on YouTube, the company showcases its Samsung NEON Frame at the opening of Shinhan Bank’s newly dedicated innovation center. For those unaware, NEON Frame is a device, which features NEON artificial humans, a large portrait screen, a 4K vision sensor, RGB status indicator, Hi-Fi speakers, and microphones.

Editor’s Pick: Xiaomi MD gifts Mi 10T Pro to a man who refused to marry unless he has the smartphone

The device also houses a fingerprint scanner to offer a next generation banking experience to the customers. Furthermore, it can also be outfitted with additional features along with security measures such as card readers, contactless payments, and other features as well. With Samsung NEON, Shinhan Bank is seeking to digitalize its transactional banking structure through the use of cutting edge technology.

Samsung had also placed an emphasis on the human part of the technology, by giving the AI a face. Banking and finances are but one of the industries in the company that aims to deploy this technology. As the company put it, the technology is designed to aid and assist human beings and not to replace their jobs entirely, with an example being NEON being used as a backup news anchor for breaking news at odd hours in the day.

Now, the CEO of STAR Labs, Pranav Mistry, has said that will not be the case.

Apparently, a few days after we reported that the AI product will be coming to smartphones, Mr. Mistry had posted a tweet saying that NEON View, the version made for mobile devices, “will not be coming for general availability in the near future”.

In the tweet, he said that NEON is “first targeted for Business-to-Business, as an API” that makes use of its “real-time conversation capability to mobile apps and web services”.

Also, NEON is an independent service, in making. Its not coming with S21 or any other Galaxy devices. Available in 2021, as of now only for B2B via View API integration, and NEON Frame.

— Pranav Mistry (@pranavmistry) December 13, 2020

Today, there was a tweet from the leaker that goes by Tron (@cozyplanes) that NEON would be available only on the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. Another leaker, Chun (@chunvn8888) also said that there would be a press release. Turns out both were wrong.

NEON is your AI friend. It has a face and you can name it. It doesn't make calls for your boss or tell you today's weather. There is Bixby for that, your smart assistant. You get all of these in your pocket. Only on Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.

— Tron (@cozyplanes) December 13, 2020

Neon will be revealed via a press release and website update in a couple of hours. And it's way more cooler than you might think

— Snapdrachun 888 5G (@chunvn8888) December 13, 2020

In a now-deleted tweet, Pranav Mistry clarified that there will be no press release and that NEON will not be coming with the (Galaxy) S21. The head of the research lab then posted another tweet saying that NEON is an independent service and it will not be coming with the Galaxy S21 or any other Galaxy devices.

So if you were excited about NEON coming to phones, sorry to burst your bubble, but that will not be happening soon. The NEON website does say that “My NEON”, an artificial human friend, will be coming in 2022 but we don’t know if it will come with phones or in a different consumer device.

NEON can be programmed to do a variety of things. According to details on the official website, NEON can be a teacher, a yoga instructor, a narrator, a reporter and so much more. A CNET interview early this year with Pranav Mistry said that the virtual assistant won’t be a replacement to Bixby or any other AI assistant available at the moment. It won’t come shipped with Samsung phones either even STAR Labs the business is funded by Samsung.

It is not very clear how NEON will work on devices but more details should surface when we see it make its appearance on mobile before the end of the year.

They’ve suggested that they’ll be revealing the details on this mysterious product at CES 2020 – that’s just a few short weeks away. We’ve gleaned just a little bit of information on what NEON could be based on what’s already out there so far.

NEON exists on the internet right now on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and has a domain of its own at NEON.life – originally registered on October 9, 2019. The website suggests that it’ll be “COMING JAN 2020” – which aligns with the social networking messaging which says they’ll appear at CES 2020.

From what we already know, Neon appears to be like some kind of mysterious artificial intelligence (AI) project. According to a tweet by Bo Moon, Head of Strategy at STAR Labs, he’s “Been working late nights and weekends and totally feeling that start-up life again. Looking forward to unveiling the new company with the team at #CES2020 in January. You won’t want to miss this…”

Then later on December 16th, President and CEO of STAR Labs, Pranav Mistry, went and tweeted that “for past few years, I have been working on something exciting. FOLLOW @neondotlife to learn more. Please SHARE and ask your friends to join, too. http://neon.life”. The mystery only seems to thicken the more we know.

Samsung has teased that NEON will be a “human-level AI,” but it may heavily depend upon access to a working 5G network. The aim of developing the AI is to offer human beings a unique experience with their electronic assistant. If it’s anywhere near as good as the team claims, then Alexa and Siri should probably be worried about NEON. NEON’s site doesn’t divulge anything, but we’re definitely looking forward to how it turns out.
