A new report now suggests that Samsung has decided to do away with the Galaxy Note series completely, halting its development altogether and deeming it history. The series has also been excluded from the 2022 annual production plan, and its design will be incorporated into the next iteration of the Galaxy S series. This is all being done to boost the sales of Samsung’s foldable phones (via ETNews).

News concerning the Samsung Galaxy Note series simply refuses to die out even though it’s been over a year since the last release. The chronicles commenced last year when reports began pouring in about Samsung killing off the Note lineup and letting it get consumed by the S series. However, it was found soon after that the rumors of the Galaxy Note’s demise had been greatly exaggerated, because a Samsung official confirmed that a new Galaxy Note device would be coming in 2021.

But it’s now nearly the end of 2021, and there’s still no sign of any Note series phone launching this year. The only flagship offering from Samsung in 2021 has been the S21 series, with the S21 Ultra from it even coming with stylus pen support.

Regardless, another Samsung official recently confirmed that the release date for a new Galaxy Note device has now been set for 2022. The news does feel a bit out of place considering that the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra device has already been touted to be a true successor to the Note 20 Ultra, complete with a boxy design and an S Pen slot.

Putting things together, it’s almost as if Samsung itself can’t make up its mind about the Note series.

Still, Samsung’s faith in its Fold series is not misplaced at all. The company already managed to sell about 2.3 million foldables around the globe in the first half of 2021. This is not counting the very successful Galaxy Z Flip3 5G which was only released in H2 2021.

Doing away with the Note series should offer Samsung an increased production capacity for its foldables, particularly the Z Flip series – a series that the company plans to sell 13 million units of, next year.

And as for those missing the Galaxy Note series already, it will be heartwarming to know that it’s virtually only the ‘Note’ name that has been dropped. The series’ legacy will live on with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which leaks suggest will be inheriting most of the features from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and perhaps even offer more.
