Nokia introduces cloud applications for Nokia 106 4G and 110 4G

Nokia has announced YouTube Shorts on the Nokia 106 4G and Nokia 110 4G. This will let users to watch short videos on the popular platform smoothly without any annoying lags and freezes. The content can be watched by signing into their Google account. There are additional cloud applications including BBC Hindi, Sokoban, and games like 2048 and Tetris. The company says that users can access news, weather updates, cricket scores, and more. These can be quickly accessed by pressing the cloud icon from the menu. 

Both the Nokia 106 4G and Nokia 110 4G now support UPI scan and pay feature for hassle-free transactions. The company will roll out over-the-air software updates for the existing Nokia 110 4G users in the next two weeks. 

The Nokia 106 4G and Nokia 110 4G offer a 1.8-inch display and are backed by a 1,450mAh battery unit. The phones are IP52-certified water-resistant and run on the S30+ operating system. HMD Global continues to consolidate its grip in the feature phone market with the launch of the Nokia 110 4G in India. The phone was first launched alongside the Nokia 105 4G in Europe. It is an upgrade of the Nokia 110 which was launched in 2019 bringing only 2G support.

In an era where 2G is gradually being phased out, the Nokia 110 4G boasts 4G LTE connectivity as its standout feature. It isn’t the only feature phone in this segment. The Nokia 105 4G also has LTE capabilities as well as Transsion Holding’s itel Magic 2 4G that was launched recently.

The device sports a 1.8-inch LCD display with a resolution of 120 x 160 pixels. At the back, the device uses a polycarbonate body and sports a single 0.8MP QVGA camera. The device features 128MB RAM and a 48MB storage that can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. The Nokia 110 4G also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack as well as an FM radio that doesn’t need a headphone jack to work. The phone also comes with a LED flashlight located at the top edge.Keeping the lights on is a decent 1,020mAh battery that supports up to 14 days of standby use in 4G while for voice calls, it can last up to 5 hours. This can be extended if the phone is used in 3G and when 2G is in use, the battery life can even last up to 16 hours of talk time and 18 days of standby.

The Nokia 110 4G is available in Black, Yellow, and Aqua colours. It carries an affordable price tag of Rs. 2799 (~$38). The feature phone will be on sale in India from today (July 24th) via Amazon.in and Nokia India’s website.

HMD Global may not yet be a force to reckon with in the high-end smartphone market but when it comes to feature phones, the Nokia brand is one of the major players with millions of units in shipments annually. A recent report by Counterpoint shows that the Finnish company shipped 11 million feature phones in Q1 2021 alone. To further shore up its market share in that segment, HMD has announced two new feature phones – Nokia 110 4G and 105 4G.

The major highlight of the two phones is the presence of 4G connectivity, a feature which itel included in the recently launched itel Magic 2 4G. The 4G phones may not have WiFi and hotspot tethering features like itel’s Magic 2 4G but they come with support for high-quality HD Voice calls over VoLTE. In an era where many carriers are planning to phase out 2G network, these new Nokia phones guarantee you several years of usage.

The Nokia 110 and 105 were first unveiled in 2019 but only featured 2G connectivity. Apart from the enhanced LTE offering, the models also come with some improvements in their designs. They retain the tiny, compact build inherited from their predecessors but the form factor is different. You get a more symmetrical design with a slight curvature of the top and bottom aspects.

The two models sport a 1.8-inch display with 120 x 160 pixel resolution. While the Nokia 110 4G packs a single rear camera, there is no camera on the 105 4G. You also get a 3.5 mm headphone jack on both models., a microSD slot that supports up to 32GB storage expansion and an FM radio. You won’t be needing to plug in a headphone jack to use the FM radio which is cool.  The phones also come with a LED flashlight located at the top edge on both models.

Finally, the two models are powered by a 1,020mAh battery each. The battery will support several days of standby use while for voice calls, it can last up to 5 hours. This can be extended if the phone is used in 3G and when 2G is in use, the battery life can even last up to 16 hours.

The Nokia 105 4G will be available in Black, Blue, and Red while the Nokia 110 4G will be available in Black, Yellow, and Aqua. There is no word yet on the prices and availability.
