HMD Global has officially unveiled the Nokia 3310 4G smartphone in China. In the home country, the Nokia 3310 4G will be available through China Mobile. The handset is running on YunOS, Alibaba Group’s OS based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP). And, it comes with some advanced features such as Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Hotspot.

Nokia 3310 4G Specifications and Features

In terms of appearance, the newly announced Nokia 3310 4G resembles with the original Nokia 3310 (2017) that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech expo in February last year. It measures 117 x 52.4 x 13.35 mm and it weighs 88.1 grams. Compared to last year’s model, the Nokia 3310 4G is slightly taller and thicker.

The handset can be availed in color choices like Fresh Blue and Dark Black. Like the Nokia 3310 (2017), the 4G variant may arrive in more color options in the near future.

The Nokia 3310 4G carries support for single micro-SIM card. It features a 2.4-inch display that supports a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. A polarizing film is placed on the display of the phone that allow users to view the contents of the screen clearly under direct sunlight. The handset has 256 MB of RAM and a native storage capacity of 512 MB. It also supports up to 64 GB microSD card on its external storage slot. For photography, it is fitted with an LED enabled 2-megapixel snapper on its back panel.

The connectivity features available on the Nokia 3310 4G are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0, and 3.5mm audio jack. It is fueled by a 1,200mAh battery that offers 5 hours of talk time on 4G VoLTE and 12 days of standby time on 4G VoLTE.

Nokia 3310 4G Pricing and Availability

The Nokia 3310 4G is now listed on the official Nokia Mobile website (Chinese edition). It is expected to be available through China Mobile stores in the home country starting from next month. HMD Global may announce the global edition of the Nokia 3310 4G at MWC 2018 tech exhibition in the coming month.

According to Digit, Reliance Jio will reportedly partner with HMD Global to launch the Nokia 3310 4G in India. The carrier is expected to make the handset available in the country with bundled voice and data offers. HMD Global is also expected to launch newer editions of Nokia N-Gage and E72 phones with 4G.

The Nokia 3310 (2017) edition that was introduced in February this year only carried support for 2G networks. Since 2G is no longer available in some countries like the U.S. and Australia, the Nokia 3310 (2017) was not released in such markets. In September, HMD Global had introduced its 3G version and it was first made available in Australia. It was also released in Singapore. The 3G Nokia 3310 has also arrived in the U.S. with a pricing of $59.99.

The 3G variant is now available on pre-orders in the U.S. through Best Buy. It comes in four color choices such as Azure, Charcoal, Warm Red and Yellow. The handset does not support CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint. Since it is a GSM device, it carries support for networks like AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket and MetroPCS. The shipments of the Nokia 3310 3G will begin on Oct. 29.

The Nokia 3310 3G has a 2.4-inch LCD display that carries support for 240 x 320 resolution. It has an internal storage of 16 MB and it comes with an additional storage slot that supports up to 32 GB of microSD card. The phone also includes an FM radio app that allow users to directly record audio from the radio.

It has a 2-megapixel camera and it is fueled by a 1,200mAh battery. The phone also features a new edition of the popular “Snake” game. Previous reports have revealed that compared to the 2G model, the 3G variant features refreshed UI and some customizations.

HMD Global has recently launched a 3G edition of Nokia 3310 (2017) for some markets like Australia, Singapore, Canada and the U.S. However, it seems India that has already received the 2G version of Nokia 3310 (2017) will not be getting its 3G version. Instead, the Finnish firm may debut a new 4G feature phone for Indian markets. Hence, the rumor mill is speculating that the 4G edition of Nokia 3310 will arrive to rival with JioPhone feature phone in India.

In a recent interview, Ajey Mehta, the Vice President of HMD Global has strongly suggested that the company is considering launching a 4G feature phone in India. However, he has not confirmed whether the 4G feature phone would be another variant of Nokia 3310 (2017).

Reliance Jio has recently launched JioPhone 4G feature phone with a pricing of Rs. 1,500 (~$23) in India. Since the JioPhone is expected to impact the market for feature phones, HMD Global is monitoring is its market response. If it is received well, it will also consider releasing a feature phone with 4G connectivity. Initial reports have revealed that the Reliance Jio will be shipping 6 million JioPhone units by December 2017.

Micromax is already working on a competitor phone for JioPhone. Micromax will be teaming up with BSNL service provider to launch a handset called Bharat One that will carry support for 4G VoLTE. Another Indian carrier Airtel, is also getting ready to debut a 4G smartphone with a price tag of Rs. 2,000 (~$30). This shows that competitor phones for JioPhone will be also available in the market soon. As far as HMD Global is concerned, it also seems to be very keen on taking on the JioPhone with its own 4G phone.

Nokia had resurrected the Nokia 3310 feature phone by launching its revamped version during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event in February. Since the Nokia 3310 (2017) supports only 2G connectivity, its unusable in some markets like the U.S., Canada, Australia and Singapore. HMD Global has now launched the 3G edition of the phone and has confirmed that it will be available for buying from next month.

Nokia 3310 (2017) with support for 3G connectivity has been launched in Australia. The handset will be available for buying in the country with a price tag of AUD 89.95 ($70) starting from Oct. 17. It will be available through carriers like Optus and Vodafone in Australia.

It is expected to be available globally with a pricing of 69 euros ($81.17). Its global release is also pegged to happen in mid-October. There is no information on the specific markets that will be getting the Nokia 3310 3G. However, Singapore is the other market that will be getting it in October.

The new 3G model is enabled with new customization options such as rearranging of icons and modifying color themes. It is also loaded with a refreshed customizable retro UI. The phone has been slightly redesigned as there is more spacing between the buttons.

As far as the 2G model is concerned, the Chief Marketing Officer of HMD Global Pekka Ranatala has claimed that the company sold “millions” of units of Nokia 3310 (2017). The specifications of the Nokia 3310 (2017) 3G version are same as its 2G variant. It will be coming in color choices like Azure, Charcoal, Warm Red and Yellow.

The Nokia 3310 (2017) has a 2.4-inch color display that supports 240 x 320 pixels resolution. It is running on “Feature OS powered by Java” and comes with 64 GB ROM and external storage support. It features a LED enabled 2-megapixel rear camera. It carries support for dual-SIM connectivity and is packed with a 1,200mAh battery that offers up to 27 days of standby time. For connectivity, it provides options like Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB port. The phone comes preinstalled with the classic Snake game that is optimized for new color display.

It seems that the phone is fitted with a plastic screen. The plastic body and its buttons also develops scratches easily with a blade. The rear shell, camera lens and flash are all made up of plastic and can get scratched easily by daily items like keys. The Nokia logo can also chip off with daily use.

Since the screen is made up of plastic, it starts melting when flame is applied to it for about 10 seconds. In the bend test, the Nokia 3310 (2017) did not bend when a lot of pressure was applied on its rear by the YouTuber. When the pressure was applied from the front, its back panel popped out a bit but the phone did not bend. Also, there was no damage done to display on bending the phone.
