The Nokia 5.1 Plus is the latest of HMD Global’s smartphone to get updated to Android 10. The update comes a week after the manufacturer announced the update for the Nokia 3.1 Plus.

The update is 1.32GB in size and comes with April 2020’s security patch. Below is the full changelog:

Dark Mode – take it easy on your eyes

Smart Reply – Save more time with recommended actions

Gesture Navigation – Get around with a swipe and a pull

Additional controls for privacy and location

Google Security Patch (2020-04)

The roll-out is gradual and is expected to roll-out to everyone by May 24th.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus was released in 2018 and it ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Counting the Android 10 update, the phone has received two OS upgrades. It should still be up for one more as HMD Global promises three years of software support which means it will get supported until next year.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One phone, so you are sure to get regular updates. It has a 5.86-inch HD+ display with a notch and is powered by an Helio P60 processor. There is a 13MP + 5MP dual camera setup on its rear and an 8MP selfie camera housed inside the notch. The phone also has a fingerprint scanner and packs a 3,060mAh battery. It runs Android Oreo out of the box but there is already an update to Android Pie.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus first launched in China as the Nokia X5 back in July last year. It later arrived as the Android One Nokia 5.1 Plus in other markets. The phone is already listed on B&H for $199.99 with availability in 7 to 10 business days.

The phone comes in three variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB, 4GB RAM + 64GB, and 6GB RAM + 64GB. Unfortunately, the listing doesn’t state which variant will be available for sale. It doesn’t even list the specs save for revealing it will have dual SIM support and be available in white.

Notwithstanding, even if it turns out to be the base model, the Nokia 5.1 Plus may be a better option than the newly announced Moto G7 Play which is also priced at $200. The Nokia 5.1 Plus has more RAM, a more powerful processor, and dual rear cameras. We also know HMD Global has a better track record when it comes to updating its phones compared to Motorola.

Now, the Finnish company is all set to launch the Nokia 5.1 Plus in the Europian market.

The company has been reportedly teasing the launch of the phone in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine. Now, a report from MSP suggests that the Nokia 5.1 Plus will soon launch in Europe, carrying a price tag of €259, which roughly converts to $295.

The Nokia 7 Plus already got updated to Android Pie and the Nokia 6.1 Plus got a beta update last week. Now info has surfaced regarding the Nokia 5.1 Plus‘ Android Pie update schedule.

HMD Global already confirmed the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 will get updated to Android 9 this month and the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 8 will follow in November. However, no info was revealed about the other smartphones.

Someone decided to ask the company’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas if the Nokia 5.1 Plus would get Android Pie before the end of the year and his reply says it all. According to Mr. Sarvikas, he “would be surprised if it does not”.

So if you own the Nokia 5.1 Plus, you should get your slice of Android Pie before the end of the year. As the weeks roll by, more info regarding the update should surface.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus was launched back in July but first as the Nokia X5 in China. It has a notch like the Nokia X6/Nokia 6.1 Plus but a 5.86-inch HD+ display. It is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P60 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

After the Pixel devices, the search engine giant is expected to make the Android 9 Pie to devices that are listed under Android One program. Since HMD Global had confirmed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 that all Nokia smartphones above Nokia 2 will join the Android One program, many Nokia phones are expected to receive Android 9 Pie update earlier than other smartphones from other companies. Today, through an official blog post, Google has confirmed that all the Android One devices and other phones that have joined the Android P Beta program will be treated with Android 9 Pie by the end of the fall.

All the Nokia Android One phones that are slated to receive the Android 9 Pie update Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 6.1 Plus (Nokia X6), Nokia 5.1 Plus (Nokia X5), Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1. Among these, the Nokia 7 Plus is expected to get the final Android P update by the end of this month since it is one of the smartphones that have been enrolled in the Android P beta program.

Apart from Android One phones by HMD Global, other Nokia phones are also confirmed to receive Android P update. Around two months ago, Neil Broadley who is the global market manager of HMD Global had said that the Android P will be made available to entire Nokia portfolio. These means that other older Nokia phone such as Nokia 8, Nokia 7, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3, Nokia 2 and Nokia 1 will be also treated with Android 9 Pie. However, as mentioned above, Nokia Android One phones will be the first ones to be blessed with Android Pie.

We already know it is getting a global launch and will launch as the Nokia 5.1 Plus but we do not know when that will be. Apparently, the launch should not be far off seeing as the device has gotten Bluetooth certified.

Five variants of the Nokia 5.1 Plus were certified and according to NokiaPowerUser are said to be for different markets. The five versions are TA-1108, TA-1120, TA-1112, TA-1102, and TA-1105. The variant with model number TA-1105 was certified in Malaysia last week.

There are speculations, HMD Global may combine the release of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus which makes sense. Fans are eager to get their hands on both phones so there is no reason to spread their release.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus will come with a 5.8-inch screen with a 1520 x 720 resolution. It will be powered by an Helio P60 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

It will also have dual rear cameras (13MP + 5MP), a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and an 8MP front-facing camera. Battery capacity is 3060mAh and it will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Unlike the Nokia X5, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will be part of the Android One program.

However, it wasn’t known as the Nokia X5 then but as the Nokia 5.1 Plus.

Now that it has launched in China as the Nokia X5, the question is “will it launch outside China and when?”. For the first part of the question, we have official confirmation that the Nokia X5 will launch in other markets.

A few days ago, Juho Sarvikas who is the product manager at HMD Global, took to Twitter to announce the launch of the Nokia X5. A follower then requested the phone be made available outside of China and Mr. Sarvikas response, though amusing indirectly confirms it would be. Below is the conversation.

For those who don’t understand the response, he is referring to a poll he created back when the Nokia X6 was announced to know if it should be launched globally. The result of the poll was a resounding yes. But this time, he thinks a poll isn’t necessary.

READ MORE: Nokia 3.1 with 5.2-inch HD+ display and 2GB RAM launched in India for Rs. 10,449 ($151)

When will the Nokia X5 be available in other markets? No one knows. The Nokia X6 was unveiled in May and its global variant, the Nokia 6.1 Plus just launched in its first market outside China a few days ago. That is a difference of two months. However, HMD Global may decide to launch the Nokia 5.1 Plus earlier but there is no guarantee.

Few hours before the launch, HMD Global declared through its official Weibo account that the launch of the Nokia X5 has been delayed. The company has not revealed the precise reason behind the cancellation of X5’s launch. HMD Global’s Weibo posts states that the product launch has been delayed because of the issues related to the venue of the conference.

HMD Global is yet to confirm on the new launch date for the Nokia X5. Probably, the company may release a new statement on the arrival of the X5 in the near future. Just as the Nokia X6 is expected to be available outside of China as Nokia 6.1 Plus, rumors have the Nokia X5 will be coming first to China and then it is likely to hit the global markets with Nokia 5.1 Plus moniker.

The rumor mill has already revealed that the Nokia X5 will be arriving with a notched display like the Nokia X6. It features a 5.86-inch IPS LCD display that supports 19::9 aspect ratio. The Helio P60 is expected to be present under the hood of the smartphone.

The Nokia X5 is likely to arrive to arrive with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of storage. The handset will also include a microSD card slot. It will be fueled by 3,000mAh battery and it will be shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. For photography, it is pegged to feature 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup and 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Indeed, as we told you yesterday the new mid-ranger has just appeared in detailed renders showing its full design. The renders have been posted on the known microblogging platform Weibo and they show the aesthetics of the handset in two color variants: Blue and Black. The back side seems to be made of glass, while the frame should be made of aluminum. The upcoming affordable device features a borderless display with a notch and a chin containing the Nokia branding.

The brand is also present on the rear side on which you can also find a dual camera setup with a LED flash. According to the source, Nokia X5 will come with an octa-core Helio P60 chipset by MediaTek, actually the most powerful MediaTek SoC from the latest generation. It rivals with the Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm with a clock frequency of 2 GHz. If this is to be believed and the price of this phone will be lower than the X6, this device may represent a true best-buy.

Besides this SoC, the handset is tipped to come with a 5.86-inch display which will show images at an HD+ resolution with the IPS technology and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Nokia X5 is expected to sport a dual camera setup with resolutions of 13 and 5 MP, as well as an 8 MP selfie camera on the front side. The battery should come with a 3000 mAh capacity, which should provide a good battery life given the efficient SoC and display. The handset may be launched in China first and then it should arrive in the global market with a different name: Nokia 5.1 Plus. Or at least that is the name appeared in the FCC certification.

Although we already know what the phone looks like, thanks to early renders and images from TENAA, press renders have also now been released.

[envira-gallery id=”200346″]

The press renders were posted on Baidu and they show the phone in blue. This is similar to the same blue shade of the Nokia 5 and Nokia 8.

The Nokia X5 comes with a notch that is bigger than that of the Nokia X6. It also has dual rear cameras arranged vertically and positioned in the middle. A fingerprint scanner sits directly underneath. We can also make out an audio jack at the top of the phone and a USB port at the bottom.

The Nokia X5 will come with a 5.86-inch screen with a 1520 x 720 resolution. An unknown 2.0GHz octa-core processor will power it along with 3GB, 4GB, or 6GB of RAM. Depending on the RAM option, the device will have 32GB or 64GB of storage.

One of the rear cameras is a 13MP sensor while an 8MP selfie camera sits within the notch. It will come with Android 8.1 Oreo and pack a 3000mAh battery.

HMD Global joined the notch train with the still China-exclusive Nokia X6. But earlier this month, leaked 3D renders revealed it was planning a second notch-screen phone called the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The device has now surfaced on TENAA with model number TA-1099.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus will have less powerful specs than the Nokia X6. This shouldn’t be surprising as HMD Global has shown that the higher the number in the name, the better the phone.

It will have a 5.86-inch display with a 1520 x 720 resolution which translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio. Powering the phone is a 2.0GHz octa-core processor. We can’t say if it is a MediaTek chipset or a Qualcomm chip but we won’t be surprised if it is the former. Our guess is it is probably the Helio P22 found in the recently announced Redmi 6.

[envira-gallery id=”197046″]

The Nokia 5.1 plus will come in 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB variants with 32GB and 64GB of storage. Just as the CAD renders revealed, the phone will come with dual cameras. TENAA mentions only the primary camera which is a 13MP sensor. There is also an 8MP selfie camera.

Other details mentioned include a fingerprint scanner, a MicroSD card slot, a 3000mAh battery, and Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. When it launches, it will be available in blue, black, and white.

READ MORE: Android P Beta Update For The Nokia 7 Plus Forces Users Back To Android Oreo

TENAA has also provided images. Other than being black, the phone shares the same design as the leaked renders. The dual rear cameras and LED flash are arranged vertically and share a single but slightly raised housing. There is also a fingerprint scanner directly below the setup. However, you can’t see the notch because the screen isn’t on.

Those phones are the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 5.1 – all successors to last year’s Nokia 2, Nokia 3, and Nokia 5 respectively.

Other than a Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone, we are not really expecting HMD to announce a new phone this year but it seems the manufacturer isn’t done yet. CAD renders of an upcoming Nokia 5.1 Plus have surfaced online and they reveal the phone will come with a notch just like the Nokia X6.

The CAD renders which are a joint work between @onleaks and TigerMobiles also includes a video. According to the source, the phone has a rough dimension of 149.5 x 71.9 x 8mm and a screen size of about 5.7 inches.

The notch in the display is much wider than that of the Nokia X6. It is home to a camera, speaker, and sensors. At the bottom of the display is a moderately-sized bezel with the Nokia logo inscribed on it.

The rear of the device shares an identical appearance to that of the Nokia X6. You have vertically arranged dual cameras which share the same housing with a LED flash. The whole setup is slightly raised. There is also a fingerprint scanner right beneath the camera housing. The back appears to be covered in glass.

[envira-gallery id=”195590″]

The Nokia 5.1 Plus has a USB-C port at the bottom flanked by two slits for a speaker on one side and a microphone on the other. A 3.5mm audio jack and secondary microphone sit at the top. There are also visible antenna lines at the top and bottom of the phone.

There is no info on the specs of the phone at the moment. Notwithstanding, its specs should plant it firmly between the Nokia 5.1 and the Nokia 6.1. When the Nokia 5.1 Plus launches, it will be the 9th Nokia phone released this year.
