The announcement was made on the Nokia Community earlier today by a staff member and he revealed that the Android 11 update for the Nokia 5.3 will be available in waves. The countries under the first wave are listed below and all of them are expected to have received it by August 6:

Cambodia

Hong Kong

India

Indonesia

Laos

Macau

Malaysia

Myanmar

Nepal

Sri Lanka

Switzerland

Taiwan

Vietnam

Below is the changelog for the update:

Manage your conversations: Get all your messages in one place

One-time permissions: Give one-time permissions to apps that need your mic, camera, or location

Google Play system updates: Even more security and privacy fixes sent to your phone, right on Google Play

Google Security Patch 2021-06

There are still a lot of Nokia phones that are yet to get the Android 11 update and they include the Nokia 5.4, Nokia 1.4, Nokia 6.2, Nokia 7.2, and Nokia 9 PureView. The last roadmap released in May says all devices will be updated by the end of the third quarter but that doesn’t seem likely.

The Nokia 5.4 has been reported to have a screen similar to that of the Nokia 3.4 pictured above

According to the report(via MSP), Nokia’s retailers like Acquire, Aus Shop IT have listed Nokia 5.4 name in Blue, and Purple colors. Although the listing doesn’t have any renders, colors corroborates with the earlier leak. Moving on, the Aus Shop IT goes a step above and lists the 4GB RAM, 128GB Purple variant for AUD 349($257/₹19,018). However, Acquire lists the same variant for AUD371($273/₹20,176).

To compare, going by the name, it’s predecessor Nokia 5.3 launched for EUR 189($225) in Europe and ₹13,999 in India. That said, the new listing could just be a placeholder, hence, let’s wait for the official launch. Either way, the device will be an upgrade at least in terms of performance. According to reports, it will sport a display with a punch-hole design.

EDITOR’S PICK: India’s Lava Mobiles starts manufacturing phones for Nokia and other brands

The size will, however, be similar to the Nokia 3.4(likely a 6.39-inch display) which is down from 6.55-inch on Nokia 5.3. Considering the price, and the lineup, we can expect it to be an HD+ (720p) display. Under the hood, it will feature a processor faster than Snapdragon 665 SoC on the Nokia 5.3. For cameras, you can expect the same quad-rear layout from the predecessor but we don’t want to jinx it’s performance yet.

Other basic features like 4G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, a base 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage model, and more likely to return. If reports are true, the device will probably launch alongside the Nokia 7.3 5G next month. And hence, let’s wait for more details as we inch closer to the launch.

The well-deserved ranking is a reflection of the brand’s policy of pushing regular updates to supported models promptly. To put in perspective Nokia’s swift Android update policy, a Nokia 5.3 model running on the latest Android 11 operating system has been spotted on the Geekbench database.

The model explicitly listed as HMD Global Nokia 5.3 is the first Nokia model to be spotted on GeekBench with Android 11 onboard. It also is the second model that we are seeing aside from the Nokia 8.3 5G running on Android 11.

The Nokia 5.3 was first launched in March this year as a budget device running on Android 10 OS. Nokia did reveal during the launch that the €183 device will get updates to Android 11 and even Android 12 as well as 3 years of security updates.

To recall, the Nokia 5.3 packs a 6.55-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 720p. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

Nokia 5.3

On the back are four cameras – a 13MP f/1.8 primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, a 5MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera is an 8MP sensor. Further, the Nokia 5.3 packs a 4000mAh battery capacity with support for 10W charging. The phone comes with an audio jack, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2 and a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side.

According to the brand’s Android 11 update schedule released earlier this month, Nokia smartphones will start receiving Android 11 update from Q4 2020 while the last set of models would have gotten the update by Q2 2021. The Nokia 5.3 may not likely be among the first set of models to get the update but we expect its own update to start rolling out in no distant time.

Design

Despite it is not the most expensive and advanced device of this comparison, the Nokia 3.4 is definitely the most attractive one when it comes to the design. Indeed, it is the only one with a punch-hole display instead of a waterdrop notch. Its rear side is very similar to the Nokia 5.3, with a circular camera module and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. Nokia 2.4 is different from its more expensive siblings, but it is still a beautiful device compared to other entry-level phones. With these handsets, you do not get premium materials: they all come with polycarbonate bodies, but the display of the Nokia 5.3 is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Display

Nokia 2.4, Nokia 3.4, and Nokia 5.3 are equipped with below-average, displays, but they can still be considered sufficient panels. They come with HD+ resolution, so not a very high level of detail. With the Nokia 3.4, you get a higher pixel density, but at the same time, you get a smaller display. The best panel belongs to the Nokia 5.3 which provides a higher brightness. It even comes with a wider panel than its siblings. In each case, you get an IPS panel which is not disappointing.

Specs & Software

The best components belong to the Nokia 5.3 which has a lower-midrange hardware department. It includes a Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage which you can furtherly expand with a micro SD slot. Right after, we got the Nokia 3.4 with a still pretty nice Snapdragon 460 chipset which behaves pretty well in every scenario (but do not expect a lot if you are not a basic user). Unless you are a basic user, you should not go for the Nokia 2.4 as its Helio P22 is not a very powerful chipset. Nokia 2.4, 3.4, and 5.3 are all devices that will get 2 years of software support, despite they are budget phones. This is actually the strongest point of Nokia.

Camera

Nokia 5.3 wins the camera comparison, but it is not so different from the Nokia 3.4. It only adds an additional 2 MP macro camera on the rear side, but for the rest, it has the same camera setup including a 13 MP main sensor, a 5 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor. Even the front camera is identical: a sufficient 8 MP snapper. Nokia 2.4 is totally different with its 8 MP main sensor paired with a 2 MP depth sensor, as well as an inferior 5 MP front camera.

Battery

Nokia 2.4 is inferior to the Nokia 3.4 and 5.3 under all the aspects except battery life. With its bigger 4500 mAh battery, it is able to last more on a single charge. With Nokia 3.4 and 5.3 you will get more or less the same battery life (4000 mAh battery), but the Nokia 3.4 should last a bit more due to its smaller display.

Price

Nokia 2.4 is priced €120/$140 in its base variant, for the Nokia 3.4 you need €160/$185, and Nokia 5.3 costs €219/$255. The Nokia 5.3 is the winner of the comparison, but if you want to save some money, you won’t face a lot of compromises with the Nokia 3.4. It has lower performance than the Nokia 5.3, but it is still fast and reliable, and the rest of the specs sheet is very similar. We do not recommend the Nokia 2.4 due to its definitely weaker chipset and inferior camera department, but it has longer battery life.

Right after, another important manufacturer came up with a new affordable phone in India: HMD Global with its Nokia 5.3 announced earlier this year. Even OPPO launched a budget phone in the last days: the OPPO A53. This is a specs comparison between the latest budget phones launched in India: Motorola Moto G9, Nokia 5.3, and OPPO A53.

Design

Oppo A53 has the most stunning design, at least according to my tastes. It is the only one which sports a punch-hole display, a feature which is hard to find on very affordable phones such as these ones. The Oppo A53 is also the most compact device of the trio with its narrow display bezels, smaller dimensions, and a thinner body. On the other hand, the Motorola Moto G9 has a water-repellent coating that may be useful to people who want to use it under the rain and accidentally throw it in the water.

Display

Unfortunately, you do not get great displays with these three devices. They all feature IPS panels with HD+ resolutions. They are not disappointing in terms of display quality, but they are definitely below the average due to their HD+ resolution providing a lower level of detail than midrange phones. By the way, you get very nice advantages with the Oppo A53: it has a 90 Hz refresh rate providing more smoothness and stereo speakers for a better multimedia experience. For all of these devices, there is a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

The Nokia 5.3 wins the hardware comparison for a simple reason: it has a more powerful chipset. We are talking about the Snapdragon 665 which is actually superior to the Snapdragon 662 found on the Motorola Moto G9. Oppo A53 is the only one featuring fast UFS 2.1 storage, but unfortunately, the Oppo A53 has an even weaker Snapdragon 460 chipset. Also, note that with the Nokia 5.3 you get up to 6 GB of RAM, while Motorola Moto G9 has just 4 GB of RAM. Last but not least, Nokia 5.3 runs Android One: a special version of the operating system supported directly by Google.

Camera

The winner of the camera comparison is the Motorola Moto G9 which comes with a way better main sensor sporting a 48 MP resolution. With the Nokia 5.3 and the Oppo A53, you get a below-average 13 MP main sensor. The Nokia 5.3 looks better than Oppo A53 due to its brighter focal aperture, but the Oppo A53 has the best front camera department thanks to its 16 MP sensor. At the end of the day, despite featuring a lower amount of sensors, Motorola Moto G9 wins the camera comparison due to its better main camera. But you do not get the ultrawide sensor found on the Nokia 5.3.

Battery

The Motorola Moto G9 should provide a longer battery life: it has a way bigger battery than Nokia 5.3 and, despite having the same battery capacity as the Oppo A53, it should last more because it lacks a 90 Hz refresh rate. Last but not least, it has a faster charging technology with a 20W power.

Price

The price of Motorola Moto G9 is Rs. 11,499, while Oppo A53 is Rs. 12,999. The Nokia 5.3 costs slightly more: Rs. 13,999 in its base variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The Motorola Moto G9 has better cameras and probably longer battery life. The Nokia 5.3 offers Android One and a better chipset, but a smaller battery. The Oppo A53 has the 90 Hz killer feature and stereo speakers, as well as the best front cameras and a punch-hole design. Which one would you pick?

Soon after the launch, the Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 5310 2020 were listed on Nokia India’s official site. The feature phone is already available for purchase in India with a pricing of Rs. 3,399, but the Nokia 5.3 is yet to go official. Fresh information shared by The Mobile Indian states that the Nokia 5.3 may go official along with two other phones this month.

The names of the other Nokia phones are not known yet. Recently, the Bluetooth SIG approved Nokia TA-1239, TA-1258, TA-1298, and TA-1292 Nokia phones. The TA-1258 model number belongs to the Nokia C3 phone that debuted recently in China.

According to NokiaMob.net, the Nokia TA-1239, TA-1298, and TA-1292 also belong to the Nokia C3 phone. Hence, there is a possibility that the Finnish firm could be launching the Nokia C3 phone soon in India. The Nokia 1.3 could be the other phone that is heading to India. The India launch of Nokia C3 and Nokia 1.3 is just a speculation. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know which other Nokia phones are coming soon to India.

The last Nokia 5 phone was released in 2018. Now the series is back and it packs a lot of upgrades but still manages to disappoint in some areas.

The Nokia 5.3 looks good with respect to its design. It also adopts the cookie camera setup but in a different way from that of the Nokia 8.3 5G as well as that of the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2. There is a waterdrop notch in the display for the selfie camera and the back is home to a fingerprint scanner. The Nokia 5.3 comes in Cyan, Sand, and Charcoal colorways.

With respect to specs, the phone has a 6.55-inch display. Sadly, it is not a 1080p panel but a 720p screen. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 chipset powers the Nokia 5.3 and it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

On the back are four cameras – a 13MP f/1.8 primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, a 5MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera is an 8MP sensor.

The Nokia 5.3 packs a 4000mAh battery capacity, the biggest in a Nokia 5 phone but disappointingly supports only 10W charging. Why does HMD Global keep cutting corners? There is also Bluetooth 4.2 instead of Bluetooth 5.0. You get an audio jack, FM radio, and a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side.

The Nokia 5.3 will go on sale in April for €189 and will get upgrades to Android 11 and Android 12 along with 3 years of security updates.

The Nokia 8.2 5G which is the company’s first 5G-ready smartphone will be the major highlight of the event. The company is also expected to unleash couple of new smartphones including the Nokia 5.2 mid-ranger phone. Leaks surrounding it suggest that it is codenamed as Nokia Captain America. A new report on Nokia Power User has revealed some vital information on the smartphone. The report also claims that the device will be debuting as Nokia 5.3.

The report reveals that the Nokia 5.3 that has a model number of TA-1234 will be a dual-SIM device that will flaunt a 6.55-inch display. The previously seen leaked images of the smartphone revealed its screen features a waterdrop notch. The Nokia 5.3 is expected to deliver a tall aspect ratio of 18.5:9.
