There is no info yet on the size of the update and what security patch level is bundled with it. We also cannot say if there are any bug fixes or optimizations. Nevertheless, Android 10 brings a Dark Mode, Smart Reply, new customizations for notifications, control over location data, and a new navigation style.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus was announced in July 2018 and is also known as the Nokia X6 in China. It has a 5.8-inch FHD+ screen with a notch at the top that houses a 16MP camera and the earpiece. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 636 processor and paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It has 16MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and also has a fingerprint scanner below the sensors.

There is a 3060mAh battery with support for 18W fast charge. When it launched, it ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and was later updated to Android 9 Pie in October 2018.

With the Nokia 6.1 Plus out of the way, the Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 7 Plus are the next in line.

The steady rise of HMD Global’s Nokia brand is not just hinged on the strong reputation of the brand in the past or the beauty of its smartphone designs. The growth is also stimulated by the company’s efforts in ensuring users of its smartphones get the latest software updates. In this regard, the company has been rolling out software updates for a number of its devices in the past few weeks.

The updates are not really major ones but are extremely crucial since they come with the latest security patch. One of the models receiving the update is the Nokia 3. The new update on the device brings with it the November 2018 security patch which unfortunately doesn’t upgrade the software from Android 8.0 Oreo. We still have to wait for Android Pie to roll out for a Nokia phone. Hopefully, that would happen rapidly as soon as Nokia launches a phone with Android Pie or later versions, all thanks to Project Treble and Google’s continuous support.

Amid the massive demand for ‘Hide Notch’ option, HMD Global has made it available again in the new Android 9.0 Pie OS update for Nokia 6.1 Plus. As like of OnePlus, Nokia is also following the same trend to return the option to hide its notch. Although the same feature was available for devices a year ago, after some time it disappeared from devices, now it is again coming back to give users an additional option to hide the notch.

In the new update of Android 9.0 Pie for Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global has added the option to hide it along with new Android version’s native support for notches. Nokia has also added various other optimizations and fixes in the latest update. The update brings all the new features that come along with the Android 9.0 Pie version.

In order to use the Hide the Notch option follow steps below:

1. You should enable Developer options by going to Settings > About phone and then tapping Build Number to unlock the option.
2. After unlocking Developer option, head to developer options menu.
3. Now in Developer options toggle on “Full Bezel” option to hide the notch.
4. That’s it!

It’s an additional advantage for users who don’t like the notched display.

Additionally, Nokia 6.1 Plus carries a 5.8 inch IPS LCD notched display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 HD+ resolution having an aspect ratio of 19:9. It uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz with Adreno 509 GPU. It comes with 4GB RAM coupling 64 GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, there’s a 16 megapixel + 5 megapixel AI dual cameras on the back, while a 16-megapixel shooter sits on the front for selfies.  In connectivity, you will get Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, a USB Type-C port, and 4G VoLTE.

At the Nokia 7.1 launch event last week, HMD Global promised that the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 will get updated to Android 9 pie this month. In keeping to its promised timeline, the manufacturer has released a beta version of Android Pie for the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

The announcement was made today by Juho Sarvikas, the chief product officer at HMD Global.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus was launched a few months ago, first as the Nokia X6 in China before heading to India as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. It has a 5.8-inch 1080 x 2280 display, a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

HMD Global had an event in London today where it announced the new Nokia 7.1. Other than the launch of the phone, HMD Global also revealed some important info about its other phones such as when they would get updated to Android Pie.

The Nokia 7 Plus already received an update to Android 9 Pie last week. According to the manufacturer, the Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 6.1 Plus are next on the list. Both phones will get the update to Android Pie this month. The Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco will come next and receive their own slice of Pie in November.

Nokia didn’t reveal the timeline for its other phones but trust that they will get the update too, though it might be much later.

Before releasing the Find X this year, Oppo kept releasing upper-midrange handsets instead of flagships for 4 years. That is why even Oppo mid-rangers have a flagship-like design, and that is why we suggest you get an Oppo F9 Pro if you want the best look. It offers a tri-borderless design with a small waterdrop notch and a very narrow chin, as well as an elegant glass back which is available in gradient color variants. In the second place, there is Nokia 6.1 Plus: it boasts a notch as well, just a little bigger, and a glass back; but it is less attractive than its opponent. In my opinion, Moto G6 Plus is the worst one in terms of design, but it is splash resistant.

Display

When it comes to displays, it is not easy to choose a winner because these devices have similar displays both on the paper and in daily use. Moto G6 Plus and Oppo F9 Pro have a wider screen (note that 18:9 displays are bigger than 19:9 displays with the same diagonal), while Nokia 6.1 Plus is more compact and easy to use with one hand. I would personally choose Oppo F9 Pro due to its high surface and its great viewing quality, but the other twos are not so distant in terms of display quality.

Hardware & Software

The device I like the most for its hardware and software sides is Nokia 6.1 Plus. First of all, it offers a chipset (the Snapdragon 636) which is a perfect compromise between performance and efficiency. Secondly, the device is equipped with Android One, a stock version of the operating system supported directly by Google with fast and constant updates. Oppo F9 Pro takes the second place as its MediaTek Helio P60 is very powerful and it comes with up to 6 GB RAM.

Camera

After checking photos taken from each device, I can say that Moto G6 Plus has the most impressive rear camera. With its bright f/1.7 aperture it shoots very detailed photos and it can capture a huge amount of light. On the other hand, Oppo F9 Pro offers a better selfie snapper with a resolution of 25 MP which is also AI-backed with very interesting features. I saw less convincing photos with the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Battery

With its big 3500 mAh battery, Oppo F9 Pro boasts the longest battery life. It is able to reach the end of the day even when used continuously. And it even has the fastest charging technology, so the fact that the battery is bigger does not mean that it takes longer to fully charge. When it comes to Moto G6 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, it is a close fight and the battery life depends on the usages, but they last more or less the same.

Price

In India, Moto G6 Plus was released a few days ago in the 6 GB RAM configuration, with a price tag of about $310. Nokia 6.1 Plus costs about $222, while Oppo F9 Pro carries a price tag of about $333. Oppo F9 Pro is the winner of the comparison, but Nokia 6.1 Plus is the one with the best value for money.

Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is the global variant of the Nokia X6 launched in China, recently received a new update with Android Security Patch. With this update, the company has removed the ‘Hide Notch’ option which was available earlier. It’s not clear if this is deliberately done or otherwise.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a notched display. Thus, the company offered an option to hide the notch for those who don’t like this new trend among the smartphone manufacturers. However, with the August Security Patch update, the option to hide the notch is no longer available in Settings.

The changelog of the new update doesn’t mention anything about the removal of the notch hiding option. The Finnish company has not issued any statement yet regarding this, despite people complaining about this on social media.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor paired to Adreno 509 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The internal storage is 64GB and has a dedicated microSD card slot for expanding storage capacity.

The phone has a fingerprint sensor placed on the back panel. Since it is an Android One device, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo stock version. The company has also confirmed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be among the first devices from Nokia to receive the latest Android Pie over-the-air (OTA) update.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone was scheduled to go on sale in India yesterday at 12 pm local time via Flipkart and Nokia online store. Indeed, the new Nokia 6.1 Plus went on its first sale and it was a hot one. The device was sold out in less than 3 minutes on Flipkart as the phone was out of stock by 12.03pm.

The exact number of unit sold wasn’t disclosed by Flipkart but the online retailer revealed that it sold 15 units of the phones each second while the sale lasted. That indicates that roughly 27,000 units of the 6.1 Plus were sold on Flipkart alone. There is no data concerning the units sold on Nokia’s website.

After huge demand from the public, HMD Global released the global version of the Nokia X6 back in July to sell it worldwide and called it the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Now, it is finally the moment for the new mid-ranger to go on sale in the Indian peninsula. Until now, the handset was on pre-orders for about a week: tomorrow at 12 PM local time it will be officially available to purchase in India through the known online store Flipkart and the Indian version of Nokia official store. The price tag of the handset will be Rs. 15,999 which roughly translates into $226 or about €193.

It will be possible to grab the Nokia 6.1 Plus in three color variants on Flipkart: Black, Blue, and White, while there will be more colors on the official site. But there will be only one memory configuration available: the one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, as the global version has only been launched in this configuration. Nokia 6.1 Plus is equipped with an elegant glass back and an aluminum frame. On the front panel, it has a bezel-less notched display with a 5.8-inch size, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels.

Inside the device, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with a max clock frequency of 1.8 GHz. HMD Global, the company behind the Nokia smartphones, has scheduled a launch event in India tomorrow where it is expected to launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is the global variant of the Nokia X6 launched in China.

Now, ahead of the launch event, the company has confirmed that the smartphone will be exclusively available through online marketplace Flipkart. The teaser video also features musician trio Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy.

Earlier, the company had sent out media invites for the “next big unveil”. While the company did not name the Nokia 6.1 Plus as the device of interest, it’s likely to be the Nokia 6.1 Plus given that the company has already started the global rollout of the phone.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch Full-HD+ display with 2280 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, paired along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.

HMD Global-controlled Nokia recently revealed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be launched in India on August 21. The 6.1 Plus comes as the global variant of the Nokia X6 which was launched in China a couple of months back. Ahead of the launch, Nokia has clashed the Nokia 6.1 also called Nokia 6 (2018) price in India.

The Nokia 6.1 was launched in China in January this year and was later unveiled for the global market at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in February. The company soon launched the 3GB RAM variant of the device in India in April with a price tag of Rs. 16999 ($261). That was soon followed in May by a 4GB RAM version priced at Rs. 18,999. Presently, the price tags of both models have got up to Rs. 1,500 off. Subsequent, the 3GB RAM variant of the Nokia 6.1 now costs Rs. 15,499 on Nokia India’s website while the 4GB RAM model is available at Rs. 17,499.

The price reduction is likely directly related to the launch of the Nokia 6.1 Plus which is expected to feature a Snapdragon 636 chipset and 4GB / 6GB RAM. The Nokia X6 which will launch as Nokia 6.1 Plus was announced in China for 1,299 yuan (around Rs. 13,800) for the 4GB RAM+ 32GB storage variant, 1,499 yuan (around Rs. 16,000) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant goes for 1,699 yuan (about Rs. 18,100). For comparison, these price points are too close to what the Nokia 6.1 variants are offered in India. This may have necessitated the generous price slash. However, we expect the Nokia 6.1 Plus to be priced higher than what it sells for in China.

Except for few brands like Motorola and Nokia, almost all major smartphone manufacturers have launched Snapdragon 845 powered smartphones. Google officially announced the arrival of Android 9 Pie and the company is already making it available to Pixel devices. After the Pixel devices, the search engine giant is expected to make the Android 9 Pie to devices that are listed under Android One program. Since HMD Global had confirmed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 that all Nokia smartphones above Nokia 2 will join the Android One program, many Nokia phones are expected to receive Android 9 Pie update earlier than other smartphones from other companies. Today, through an official blog post, Google has confirmed that all the Android One devices and other phones that have joined the Android P Beta program will be treated with Android 9 Pie by the end of the fall.

All the Nokia Android One phones that are slated to receive the Android 9 Pie update Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 6.1 Plus (Nokia X6), Nokia 5.1 Plus (Nokia X5), Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1. Around two months ago, Neil Broadley who is the global market manager of HMD Global had said that the Android P will be made available to entire Nokia portfolio. These means that other older Nokia phone such as Nokia 8, Nokia 7, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3, Nokia 2 and Nokia 1 will be also treated with Android 9 Pie. The 6.1 Plus will go on sale across various channels in Taiwan from August 1 with a price tag of NT$ 8,000/€200. This is as high as the HKD 2,288 ($292) price tag with which the device launched in Hong Kong which is considered expensive. The Nokia 8110 4G will also be available to customers in Taiwan from July 25 with its price starting at NT$ 2,800/€80.

As a reminder, the Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The post says that it will be an Android One phone, but there is no information on its launch date for Taiwan.

HMD Global is known for selling its phones with affordable pricing in China. Hence, international markets are expected to receive it with slightly higher price tag.

On Wednesday, the company will be unveiling another X series phone named Nokia X5. Probably, China is expected to receive the smartphone with Nokia X5 and the other markets may receive it as Nokia 5.1 Plus. It is speculated that Nokia X7 is the forthcoming X series smartphone. It is likely to feature Snapdragon 710 SoC.

HMD Global appears to have a new Nokia 6 phone in the works. No, this isn’t the Nokia 6.2 but the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The new Nokia phone has been sighted on Google’s ARCore site.

Google has a website where ARCore supported devices are listed. Right under the section for HMD devices is the unreleased Nokia 6.1 Plus.

This is the first time we are hearing of the device so there is no info on its specifications. However, there are some who think the Nokia 6.1 Plus may be the same device as the Nokia X6.

They are of the opinion that HMD Global will launch the Nokia X6 as the Nokia 6.1 Plus outside China. The reason for this belief is because the unreleased Nokia 5.1 Plus is rumored to launch in China as the Nokia X5.

However, if we are to go by the Indian support page of the Nokia X6 that briefly went live last week, it nullifies the argument. The only other way to confirm is to see if ARCore works on the Nokia X6. Since the Nokia X6 isn’t on the list of supported devices, ARCore working on it may just be the proof we need to confirm it is the same device as the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Speaking of ARCore, the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco, and Nokia 6.1 are the supported Nokia devices. HMD Global’s chief product officer, Juho Sarvikas, said in a tweet yesterday that the Nokia 8 will be enabled soon.
