A new Nokia smartphone with model number TA-1172 has received approval from China’s TENAA telecom authority. The TENAA listing has preliminary information of the smartphone and it also contains its images. The photos of the TA-1172 suggest that it is a Chinese version of the Nokia X71 smartphone that was recently announced in Taiwan.

The Nokia TA-1172 TENAA listing shows that it measures 156.89 x 76.15 x 7.98mm. The smartphone is fitted with a 6.39-inch display. A minimum capacity battery of 3,400mAh is present inside the phone. The TENAA images of the Nokia TA-1172 show that it is identical to the Nokia X71 since it is equipped with a punch-hole display and a rear-mounted triple camera module.

Could the Nokia TA-1172 arriving as Nokia 6.2 to China and other countries? Two entries of Nokia X71 and Nokia 6 (2019) (also known as Nokia 6.2) was recently spotted on OTA firmware with the same TAS codename on FIH servers. This suggested that the Nokia X71 could be hitting the Chinese markets as Nokia 6.2.

Nokia X71 Specifications and Price

The Nokia X71 is the first Nokia phone with a punch-hole display. The IPS LCD display supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2316 pixels. The camera hole houses an f/2.0 aperture 16-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone offers 93 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The Snapdragon 660 and 6 GB of RAM powers the smartphone. The handset includes an internal storage of 128 GB. There is an expansion memory slot on the device that supports up to 256 GB of microSD card. The Android One version of Android 9 Pie is loaded on the smartphone.

The Nokia X71 is packed with a 3,500mAh battery that offers 18W rapid charging. The triple camera module on the rear features a 48-megapixel ZEISS lens with f/1.8 aperture as primary sensor, an ultra wide-angle 8-megapixel lens and an f/2.4 aperture 5-megapixel depth sensor.

The Nokia X71 is up for pre-orders in Taiwan with a price tag of 11,990 NTD (~$389). The handset comes in a single color version of Eclipse Black. It will be hitting the Taiwanese markets on April 10.

Earlier in this week, a purported email from HMD Global to some dealers in Taiwan had revealed that it will be launching a smartphone named Nokia X71 in Taiwan on April 2. Some reports claimed that it could be launching as Nokia 8.1 Plus outside of Taiwan. However, some reports that it could be arriving as Nokia 6.2 in international markets. A new leak that that surfaced today suggests that the Nokia X71 may go official as Nokia 6.2 in global markets.

Previous reports had claimed that the upcoming Nokia 6.2 (also known as Nokia 6 2019) could be codenamed as TAS which stands for Taishun. Two screenshots of FIA OTA tracker of Nokia X71 and Nokia 6 (2019) that appeared on China’s Baidu recently show they are both codenamed as TAS. This indicates that these devices are same device.

The purported email from Finnish firm had revealed that the smartphone would be arriving with a triple camera setup with 48-mgeapixel sensor and 120-degree wide-angle lens. It also stated that the phone would be arriving with a punch-hole display. It is also expected to carry support for 18W rapid charging. Earlier today, the Nokia X71 smartphone was spotted on Geekbench with specs like Android 9 Pie OS, 6 GB of RAM and Snapdragon 660. Contradictory reports from the past have claimed that the Snapdragon 632 could be powering the smartphone.

The Nokia 6.1 from last year was fueled by the Snapdragon 630. Hence, the Snapdragon 660 SoC appears suitable for the Nokia 6.2 phone. A recent report had revealed that the Nokia 6.2 will be made official between March and June. The Nokia 6.1 was unveiled with a price tag of 279 euros (~$315). It is speculated that the upcoming Nokia 6.2 will be hitting the market with a similar price tag.

Yesterday renders of a Nokia phone said to be the Nokia 8.1 Plus were posted online but there are sources saying it may be a different Nokia device entirely, the Nokia 6.2 to be exact. Although it is still unconfirmed, specs of the phone have leaked.

The Nokia 6.2 specs were shared on Twitter by @LeaksNokia, an account that is known for posting Nokia-related news and leaks.

According to the account, the Nokia 6.2 or Nokia 6 (2019) will have a 6.2-inch display. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 632 processor and will come in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants. There is no mention of the storage but expect 32GB and 64GB of onboard storage with support for expansion.

The Nokia 6.2 will have 16MP dual rear cameras with Zeiss optics. There is no mention of the secondary rear camera and the front-facing camera. The phone will also have Nokia’s OZO Audio technology. There is no info about the battery capacity but we expect it to be bigger than the 3,000mAh capacity of last year’s model.

The phone will launch in China first just like its predecessors and is expected to arrive by the end of January or early February. HMD Global should launch it in other markets including the US and Europe in the months following its release in China.

All these are unconfirmed, so we advise that you take them with a pinch of salt.
