HMD’s latest Nokia 6 smartphone is now available in a new cool silver colour variant. If you think this is white, you might be forgiven because we had first spotted a white variant which appeared in the Philippines but this is quite different from that one in that the front of this silver variant is black but the white variant which is not yet official is white. The new silver coloured Nokia 6 is now available for registration on e-commerce platform Jingdong (JD.com) in China.

The Nokia 6 appeared on TENAA before launch arrayed in silver. So we were expecting this silver variant to go public soon. The Nokia 6 Silver variant joins the black variant in offering buyers two attractive options to choose from. But this is obviously a case of saving the best for the last, as the new silver coloured variant looks more premium and sleek without compromising the military grade metal body build which the device comes with. The external features like the oval home button, Nokia logo at the back and camera ring are highlighted in shiny silver, making this variant more attractive than the black coloured version.

However, this new variant comes with the same specs as the black-coloured variant and is available for the same 1699 Yuan (~$245) price. As a reminder, the Nokia 6 sports a 5.5-inch 1080 pixels display and is fired up by a Snapdragon 430 chipset which is backed by a huge 4GB of RAM. There is also 64GB of storage onboard with the option of expanding it further via microSD. On the camera end, the device packs a 16MP rear camera with a single LED flash lying just underneath it, as well as an 8MP front-facing camera for sleek selfies.  There is an ample 3,000mAh battery crammed inside the smartphone as well.

Nokia yesterday held a news conference in Beijing where the Nokia 6 was officially unveiled before a crowd of tech enthusiasts, media practitioners and other invitees. The mid-range smartphone was announced to have gone up for reservation immediately after the launch and would be available exclusively on Jingdong (JD.com).

The Nokia 6 will officially go on sale on January 19 and ahead of its first sale, Nokia has announced that registrations for the device have exceeded 230,000 persons just after 24 hours since it opened for reservations. The reservations are of two types, there is a zero yuan reservation and another one which required those making reservations to pay a 66 yuan price with a membership benefit attached. As should be expected, the free reservation package saw 229,000 people registering in 24 hours, while the 66-yuan package has 6686 persons during the same period. These figures would have increased by now, though.

Although, the reservation figures may not really turn out to become actual sales, it sometimes help project how a smartphone would fare in the market. The Nokia 6 isn’t one for the geeks who are interested in having a device with a wonderful performance but perhaps, for those who wouldn’t mind the fire power but are just content in having the sleek and rugged smartphone, as long as it bears the Nokia moniker.

The comeback of the Nokia brand into the smartphone market is still reverberating all round the internet. The Nokia 6 itself was recently spotted on TENAA adorned in what would likely be a silver colored coating, perhaps another color variant.

On launch, Nokia announced that the device would go on its first sale in China before anywhere else. Undoubtedly, this is due to the large potential of the Chinese market with its sheer size of smartphone users, many of whom are still ardent Nokia fans. It has now emerged that HMD Global is also eying an entry into the Hong Kong market. According to the source, HMD Hong Kong has been sending out e-mails to the media that the company is organizing a team that would publicize the return of the Nokia brand to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Although, it wasn’t stated whether the Nokia 6 would be launched in these markets, it isn’t feasible to publicize a smartphone company without its product, and right now the Nokia 6 is the only Nokia branded smartphone that can be used to project the brand. Meanwhile, the budget Nokia 6 would go on its first sale towards the end of January which is the period the Chiness celebrate the Spring Festival or New Year. Apparently, the device would be exclusive to Jingdong (JD.com) and is price at 1,699 yuan (around $245 USD). It is likely we’d be seeing the silver colored variant along with the black colored version when it officially goes on sale.
