Since the past two years, HMD Global has been using the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech exhibition platform to announce new devices. This year too, the Finnish firm will be unwrapping its new phones at the upcoming MWC 2020 event. A fresh leak courtesy of Nokiamob.net has revealed some of the names of the devices that may get announced at MWC. It has mentioned names like Nokia 1.3, Nokia 5.2 and Nokia 8.2 5G. The report claims that the monikers of these devices are not final. The Finland-based firm is also poised to unleash a new series of Nokia phones at MWC 2020.

Nokia 8.2 5G specifications and price (Rumored)

Citing information from a known source, the publication has revealed that the 4G edition of the Nokia 8.2 has been cancelled. The specs leak of the Nokia 8.2 5G suggests that it could be the Snapdragon 765 driven 5G phone will be announced at MWC 2020.

The leak states that the design of the rear camera setup of the Nokia 8.2 5G could be similar to the Nokia 7.2 phone from 2019. A leak from October 2019 had claimed that the phone will be sporting a round-shaped camera setup with four cameras with a 64-megapixel mains lens. The handset is expected to house a 32-megapixel pop-up selfie shooter. The phone could be coming with a pOLED or LCD screen and a side-mounted fingerprint reader that won’t come with breathing light notification feature. A previous leak had claimed that it could be coming with a curved display. However, the new report claims that it has been found to be incorrect.

The Nokia 8.2 5G could be housing a 3,500mAh battery. The phone could be coming with fast charging support, but the leak has not revealed details on its presence. The handset is likely to lack support for wireless charging. The device will come equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack.

The starting variant of the Nokia 8.2 5G could be featuring 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. There could be a limited edition of the phone with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of storage. The base model of the Nokia 8.2 5G may carry a price tag of 459 euros (~$506).

New original series phone coming at MWC 2020

The report further states that Nokia was expected to announce a new original series device around the Spring Festival of China. However, due to the ongoing situation of Coronavirus, the company has reportedly pushed its launch to MWC 2020. Unfortunately, there is no word on the design, name and specs of the new original series phone.

The original series phone could be referring to a revised version of the one of the yesteryear feature phone.

Based on the reports surrounding the Nokia 8.2, it can be said that it won’t be a flagship but an upper mid-range phone. A fresh report on Nokia Power User claims that Nokia 8.2 will only arrive in 5G version and it may debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 tech trade show in February next year.

The report claims just as the company dropped the idea of releasing two variants of the same phone as it did with Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus by launching only Nokia 6.2, it will use the strategy with Nokia 8.2. There is also a possibility that the Nokia 8.2 may arrive in the market with a different moniker. Whatever the name of the device will be, it may come only in a single 5G edition at MWC 2020.

The Nokia 8.2 5G could be the first Nokia phone to sport a notch-less display and a pop-up selfie camera. It is speculated that it could be equipped with a selfie shooter of 32-megapixel for capturing selfie shots. Qualcomm is yet to announce Snapdragon 735. The SoC is said to be the successor of the 8nm Snapdragon 730 that is currently the next best SoC after the flagship Snapdragon 8XX SoC lineup from the U.S. based chip market. The SD735 is expected to come equipped with a 5G modem.

The Nokia 8.2 5G may arrive in the market in three variants such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. By this, it may debut as the first smartphone from the Finnish firm with 8 GB of RAM. The rear shell of the Nokia 8.2 5G could be featuring a round-shaped quad camera system with a primary sensor of 64-megapixel.

The Nokia 8.2 5G will be an attempt from the company of making a 5G phone available at an affordable price tag. It is rumored to debut with a price tag of around $500 in the U.S.

The SD735 succeeds the SD730 and sits directly below the upcoming SD865, which is another next-generation powerhouse scheduled to arrive in 2020. The leak makes sense since HMD and Qualcomm have already revealed their plans of launching a 5G-compliant mid-range smartphone powered by an unreleased Snapdragon 7-series processor. The SoC features an upgraded AI Engine and is built using a 7nm architecture.

More and more 5G devices from different manufacturers are coming to the market in parallel with the rollout of 5G networks, and it seems Nokia wants in. We’ve already heard rumors that the company was working on a 5G device, and now we’re getting more confirmation from NokiaPowerUser and their inside sources on the upcoming Nokia 8.2 5G.

According to them, HMD’s new 5G smartphone, which was teased as recently as last month, is indeed the Nokia 8.2 5G. It’ll reportedly feature an impressive quadruple-camera setup on the rear in addition to an all-new pop-out camera system up front much like its 4G LTE sibling. Yep, that means no notches or hole punch cameras here.

There’s going to be an interesting caveat to the device though. While HMD Global are calling the new device a value flagship, chances are it won’t actually feature flagship specs to help keep prices low. If this is true, then we’ll probably see a real 5G Nokia flagship with all the bells and whistles later, with the Nokia 8.2 5G here to cover more ground.

In an earlier interview, HMD Global’s CEO claimed the value flagship would cost half of your typical 5G device. Currently, most of the available 5G capable smartphones are priced around $1000, so it’s not unreasonable to expect the Nokia 8.2 5G to be priced around $500 at the time of launch. We look forward to seeing the device make its official appearance at MWC2020, since it would be a shame not to unveil there.
