It was recently reported that Nokia 2.4, and Nokia 8.3 5G have gotten their first taste of Android 12 and now it seems like Nokia G20 will also receive the latest android version. Nokiamob, citing screenshots from a G20 user, has reported that Nokia has started rolling out Android 12 to the Nokia G20. It is worth mentioning that this update is coming with the May security patch.

The update is reportedly available in Austria and comes packed with 1.97 GB of data. If you are a G20 user, go to the settings and check if the update is available. It will be displayed as V2.230.

The latest update brings a new privacy dashboard that provides a clear and comprehensive overview of when apps have accessed your location, camera, or microphone in the last 24 hours. It also carries certain accessibility improvements such as increased area, extra screen dimming, bold text, and grayscale. With the new update, G20 users will now be able to save their sensitive data in a Private safe.

The Nokia devices that have received the Android 12 update so far include: Nokia X20, Nokia XR20, Nokia G50, Nokia X10, Nokia 8.3 5G, Nokia 2.4, and Nokia G20. It is expected that Nokia 3.4, Nokia 5.4, Nokia T20, and all of the latest Unisoc devices are expected to receive the Android 12 update soon.

A recent report revealed that HMD Global is planning to adopt a new naming convention for its upcoming smartphones. Hence, it seems that the successor of the Nokia 8.3 5G will not be called the Nokia 8.4 5G. There is a possibility that this device will launch as the Nokia G10.

Nokia 8.3 5G successor specifications (Rumored)

According to the publication, the Nokia 8.3 5G’s successor will feature a new chipset, which will be an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 765/765G. Recent reports have revealed that this chipset has a model number of SM7350, and it may arrive in the market as the Snapdragon 775 / 775G.

The smartphone is speculated to flaunt a 6.5-inch PureDisplay V4 with support for Quad HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It may draw power from a massive 5,000mAh battery.

The report claims that the Nokia 8.3 5G will be equipped with a ZEISS branded 108-megapixel penta-lens camera system. The camera module is likely to include an ultrawide lens, a telephoto snapper, a macro shooter, and a depth helper. It is also expected to carry support for OZO Audio.

Nokia 8.3 5G launched with Android 10 out of the box. Today, a post on the community page announced that the latest Android 11 update for the device has started rolling out.

A post on the Nokia Community page by Dipankar paul shows(via) the details of the Android 11 rollout for the Nokia 8.3 5G. He says that the company has begun the rollout but will carry it out in Phases(waves) to ensure a smooth rollout.

The countries to receive the update in the 1st wave of rollout are: Bahrain, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Iceland, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Macau, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Tunisia, the UAE, the US, and Vietnam.

Going by the name ‘1st wave’ you should have realized by now that a subsequent follow-up of rollout including the UK will continue after this. In fact, the post says that 10% of people will get now, 50% by Feb 5th. By Feb 7th, every one of these markets will have received the Android 11 update.

For features, you can expect all the goodies of Android 11 like chat bubbles(conversations), media controls, improved permission management, and organized notifications. Further, a screenshot shared by Nokiamob shows that the software version V2.180 weighing 1.80GB brings the latest January 2021 security patch.

That said, Nokia 8.3 runs UI which is based on the Android One program the overall interface will most likely remain the same i.e stock Android with very fewer customizations. Either way, the update is a bit late looking at its schedule, and let’s hope Nokia doesn’t mess it up further for other devices.

Dual-SIM Dual-5G support is a feature that is common in a lot of Chinese phones especially those powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000/1000+ processors. The feature allows users to use 5G networks on both SIMs at the same time. However, phones powered by Snapdragon chipsets don’t have support for Dual-SIM Dual-5G as only one SIM will be connected to 5G while the second SIM is connected to a 4G, 3G, or 2G network.

The Nokia 8.3 5G is one such phone without support for Dual-SIM Dual-5G but it has been reported that it will get support with a future update. The info comes from an official response to an inquiry made by a buyer on Amazon.

The buyer asked if the phone supports using 5G + 4G networks (dual SIM) at the same time when one SIM is on 5G or if the second SIM is disabled. The response provided by Nokia was that a software update will allow users to run both (SIMs) on 5G.

The answer doesn’t necessarily answer the question. However, NokiaPowerUser reports that HMD Global released an update for the phone recently that allows users to set SIM 1 to 5G while SIM 2 can be set to 4G, 3G, or 2G networks. Prior to the release of the update, if you had two SIM cards inside the device, both support 4G, 3G, or 2G. Yeah, really weird, right?. So to answer the buyer’s question, you can use one SIM for 5G while the other uses 4G, 3G, or 2G.

Going back to dissect Nokia’s response, we want to believe they mean that users will be able to use 5G on both SIMs and not just on one SIM 1. However, they most likely will not be able to connect to a 5G network on both SIMs at the same. This is because no Snapdragon processor offers that feature at the moment. Qualcomm says it is still working on it and we believe when it does happen, it will arrive with future processors.

The Nokia 8.3 5G was announced back in March but it didn’t go on sale until this month with some countries such as Switzerland not getting it until September. HMD Global has announced today that the mid-range 5G phone will be heading to North America. The Finnish company has also announced a new change to its leadership.

A press release issued by HMD Global revealed that its Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, has now been appointed as the Vice President of North America. The top executive will now hold both positions.

The press release also revealed that the first step in HMD Global’s roadmap for North America is the availability of the Nokia 8.3 5G in the US this autumn. This means the phone should be available between late September and the third week of December.

The Nokia 8.3 5G’s arrival should be around the same time OnePlus will be launching its OnePlus Nord smartphone for the country too, so expect comparisons between the two devices.

The Nokia 8.3 5G has a 6.81-inch FHD+ display with a punch hole at the top left corner of the screen. It is powered by the Snapdragon 765G and comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

On the back of the phone is a 64MP quad-camera setup that includes a 12MP ultrawide angle camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It also has a 24MP selfie camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button, a 4500mAh battery, and support for 18W fast charge.

The Nokia 8.3 5G is touted as a global 5G device as it supports more 5G bands than most of the other 5G devices on the market. It launched in Europe for €599, so it should sell for about $599 when it lands in the US. At that price, it will have to go up against the $599 (6GB+128GB) LG Velvet 5G.

Nokia had announced its first 5G phone, the Nokia 8.3 5G, during an online event in March this year. The company unmasked the device and also announced its features and price. But talking about the availability, Nokia hinted that the device will be available in Europe this summer. Indeed the phone has gone on pre-order in the UK but the release date is still undisclosed.

However, a new listing by a retailer in Switzerland has been spotted. The listing points to the phone going on sale on September 15 in the country. The retailer did not include the pricing of the phone but it will come in a Polar Night colour.

We’ll have to at the Clove UK listing to find the Nokia 8.3 5G price as it is listed for £499. Availability is scheduled for this month though no exact date is specified. The phone is listed in a single 6/64GB trim and it remains to see if the 8/256GB variant will also be available.
