The return of the Nokia brand under HMD Global meant HMD had a herculean task trying to convince fans that it could retain the rugged and durable feature Nokia is known for while transitioning to sleek Android phone designs. The Nokia 6 was the first product released by HMD and the mid-range phone was pretty impressive. Nokia recently released its flagship Nokia 8 which it touts to be its most powerful Android smartphone so far.

You might want to think that tag is because the Nokia 9 packs the powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset and other sturdy specs but that may not be the only aspects the Nokia 8 is powerful as we can gather from this durability test video created by JerryRigEverything. The video shows the Nokia 8 being subjected to burn, bend and scratch tests to determine how it would fare, compared to other flagships. The Nokia 8 uses a 6000 series aluminium. It also packs an LCD IPS display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of the display. The Gorilla Glass 5 does a good job of protecting the display from scratch to a reasonable extent which shows that stuff like coins or keys won’t leak a mark on the screen. But it is still advisable to use a screen protector. The aluminium back also withstood normal scratch levels but caves in when strong pressure was applied.

Related: Nokia 6 Scratch, Bend, Burn Tests Reveal How Durable It Is

The Nokia 8 was also subjected to a burn test and it holds out pretty well, with the LCD display ink which gathered as a result of the heat clearing up in about 10 seconds. The bend test also showed a solid build despite using a 6000 series aluminium which Apple purportedly abandoned because their iPhones bend easily. Zack Jerry’s verdict is that the Nokia 8 is a solidly built and durable smartphone. You can check out the YouTube video above.

Originally, the Nokia 8 was launched with 4GB +64GB storage but the new variant would come with 6GB RAM and a mammoth 128GB storage size. The Nokia 8 variant in question recently appeared in a US FCC document showing it has been certified by the US agency.

The Nokia 8 6GB + 128GB variant will be launched in Europe, specifically in Germany on October 20 this year. The variant will also be available only in Polished Blue color option. The device will carry a price tag of €669, which is €90 more than what the regular 4GB+64GB version carries.

The company released its latest product and first flagship model since this era, not too long ago. The Nokia 8 may not have met the expectations of a number of ardent followers of the brand but it sure does feature a powerful specs lineup and a cool design. Nokia 8 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat but users of the phone may not wait for too long before Android Oreo hits their devices.

A Nokia Exec, who is actually HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas recently shared two images on Twitter which practically teases that the company is working on updates to ANdroid Oreo for the flagship. The images were those of the Nokia 8 with a prompt to download Android 8.0 Oreo, the latest version of Google’s popular operating system. For now, no smartphone has featured Android Oreo but Google is expected to launch the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL running its latest OS. So, we may not be seeing the update for Nokia 8 very soon.

The Nokia Exec hinted that his company was working on perfecting the Android 8 OS for the Nokia 8 and when that has been achieved, it would roll out. For now, the company is still testing the ROM as could be seen in the screenshots. Curiously, the new ROM comes with a size of almost 1.3GB. Perhaps, the size could be compressed further as HMD had earlier hinted that all its models released so far will get Android 8 updates.

To refresh your memory, Nokia 8 boasts of a 5.3-inch QHD panel and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. The Nokia 8 also packs 64GB of internal flash memory expandable with a microSD card. On the camera end, the device features a 13MP front-facing camera, while it sports a dual camera setup at the rear comprised of two 13MP modules with laser and phase detection autofocus support and a dual-LED flash. The device also features a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, among others.

The company made the flagship smartphone official in London earlier today. The phone will be the first product as a result of the recent collaboration between HMD Global and Carl Zeiss.

The camera is the biggest selling point of the Nokia 8. The phone comes with dual 13MP cameras at the back along with a 13MP camera on the front as well. Before we head on to the details, note that both the back as well as the front cameras are capable of capturing videos in high-res 4K resolution at 30fps. The dual camera setup is pretty straightforward, a 13MP f/2.0 RGB color sensor paired with a dedicated 13MP monochrome sensor. Other features of the setup at the back include Laser Focus and dual tone LED flash.

In the software department, the Nokia 8 is no slouch, as it comes with a number of unique features. First, the phone has integrated live streaming options for Facebook and YouTube platforms. Another big feature is the new “Bothie”. You might have already guessed where Nokia is taking us with this naming — simultaneous recording from the front as well as the back cameras, shown in a split screen display. And guess what, you can live stream in the bothie mode as well, to impress your social media fans.

The Nokia 8 is made out of 6000 series aluminum body and comes in multiple finishes including matte and steel. There are four colors available — Polished Copper, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel. Coming down to the basic specs, the phone is powered by the mighty Snapdragon 835 chipset, which has become a standard among top-end smartphones. There’ll be just one memory variant at the moment, a 4GB + 64GB version. The display will be compact at 5.3-inches with 2560 x 1440 pixels. There’s a MicroSD card expansion slot (256GB) and you get a decent 3090mAh for battery. While the Nokia 8 isn’t waterproof, it’s IP54 certified, making it splash proof. Other features include a fingerprint sensor on the front, Android 7.1.1 Nougat (monthly security updates and Android O promised), USB Type-C 3.1, and a 3.5mm dedicated headphone jack. The software is said to be a lightweight version of Android Nougat.

HMD is also bringing some interesting technology from the present day Nokia company, into the Nokia 8 flagship. For example, the phone features high dynamic range microphones which utilize Nokia Ozo Audio algorithms to record surround sound. What’s even more interesting is that this virtual surround sound will be preserved even when you share it to your social media channels.

Nokia 8 will go on sale first in Europe and later in Latin American markets for a suggested retail price of €599, which comes close to $700. According to Gadgets360, the phone will come to India in early October. According to the CNBC, Nokia 8 won’t release in China or the US.

The images are said to have appeared on China’s social media app WeChat and even though they look quite blurry, they no doubt bear semblance with the leaked photo of the upcoming flagship that we have seen thus far, including the one Nokia showcased in a video celebrating the International Cat Day. Apart from the looks, we also get further confirmation of the Nokia 8 key specifications.

Some of the photos show a couple of the device’s specifications as well as the interface and wallpaper. The device is revealed as having the model number TA-1012 which is one of the Nokia 8’s model number which was revealed when it hit AnTuTu recently. Other model numbers such as TA-1004, TA-1012, and TA-1052 are all also associated with the Nokia flagship.

The leaked photos also confirm the presence of a Snapdragon 835 chip, 4GB RAM and QHD display as among the features of the phone. While the display size wasn’t revealed, earlier rumour tips the Nokia 8 as coming with a 5.3-inch display while the photo gives the pixels-per-inch as 559. The unveiling will likely be in China before spreading to other regions.

The main feature we can grab from the leaked Camera interface is that the Nokia 8 indeed has a dual camera setup and the two cameras will be a monochrome sensor and an RGB sensor. The arrangement of the icons on the menu seems to indicate that either sensor can function singly and in a dual camera arrangement. Users will have the option of choosing RGB, dual-lens or Monochrome from the drop down camera setup menu before taking the shot.

In addition, the second photo reveals the presence of a dual camera mode, where you use the rear and the front cameras to create a collage in real time. This isn’t a new feature but isn’t present on all dual camera packing Android phone so it’s nice that the Nokia 8 will have it. Other features are pretty basic, like the self-timer, HDR mode and flash settings.

As a reminder, the Nokia 8 is expected with a 5.7-inch 2K display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor powering it up as well as up to 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. The dual rear camera setup is made up of a 12MP main sensor and Zeiss optics. The device is also expected to pack a 3000mAh battery and will run Android 7.1 out of the box.

Ahead of that event, a new set of real photos of the expected Nokia 8 have popped up online via a retailer.

The Nokia 8 isn’t new to leaks, we have seen a number of photos of the device so, these latest photos just confirm the design of the flagship. The device is expected with a metal body and in a number of colours which would include Gold, Copper and Blue. The design looks more like a sleek version of the Nokia 6 with well-curved edges.

The design of the Nokia 8 is also distinct from HMD’s first Nokia device due to the dual cameras that sit at the rear. The dual camera setup will come with Zeiss Optics technology and Zeiss’ logo is expected to be written in between both cameras but that is absent in the leaked photo above, which is likely due to the fact this is a prototype machine. The body is said to be made from aluminum and the shape when viewed from the rear resembles the Nokia 6. But the leaked photos showing the front screen point at the presence of curved display. We may likely be looking at on-display fingerprint sensor onboard the flagship.

Nokia 8 is expected with a 5.3-inch 2K display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor powering it up as well as up to 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. The dual rear camera setup is made up of a 13MP main sensor and Zeiss optics. The device is expected to pack a 3000mAh battery and will run Android 7.1 out of the box. The device is listed with a price tag of 4,500 Yuan ($660) which isn’t very cheap but is a decent price for a flagship. The price may be lower than that amount in the long run, anyway.

The success of the models in the markets where it has gone up for sale may have spurred HMD Global to speed up things on its flagship model and that is the Nokia 8.

Nokia 8 has been a regular visitor in leaks lately and that isn’t about to end soon. A new leak emanating from China’s Baidu has revealed the Nokia 8 in copper colour. The colour can easily be confused for a gold colour but it isn’t, considering it is not as shiny as gold. Nokia did release a copper colour variant of the Nokia 6 so, this isn’t a new one. This seems to have leaked earlier on in detailed images and you can check them out from here.

Read More: Nokia 8 Official Website Listing Appears Temporarily; Launch Imminent

The Nokia 8 is expected to feature a dual camera setup with Zeiss Optics technology and the presence of the Zeiss logo perhaps affirms that. The body is said to be made from aluminum and the shape when viewed from the rear resembles the Nokia 6. But the leaked photos showing the front screen point at the presence of curved display.
Earlier today, he had first posted an image of the rear camera setup, confirming it will indeed have dual cameras and Carl Zeiss optics. That image was followed by another one that showed the Nokia 8 in full.

This is the Nokia 8 https://t.co/YUUbFOgbBX pic.twitter.com/xrHBRx4H8I

The Nokia 8 can be best described as a Nokia 6 with dual cameras. The design is too similar that we wonder if the design team was just lazy. This is a flagship device and it wouldn’t be too much to see it have thinner bezels or a more premium look.

The Nokia 8 doesn’t have a curved display neither does it have a glass back. This is aluminium and since the design is like that of the Nokia 6, we expect it to have the same strength. According to JerryRigEverything, the Nokia 6 might be the strongest phone of 2017. So here is hoping the Nokia 8 delivers on strength and durability.

The Nokia 8 in the leaked image is blue. The camera setup is covered by a single piece of glass. The dual sensors are lined up vertically which is nice as we are tired of seeing the iPhone 7 Plus’ design. The word “ZEISS” is written below the second sensor followed by what appears to be a laser focus module and then the LED flash below it.

At the top of the camera housing is a single microphone hole and below the housing is the Nokia logo. Move to the bottom and there is some text that let’s you know it is designed by HMD Global Oy and manufactured in China.

An interesting info you shouldn’t miss is the model number which is TA-1012 and not TA-1004. This is interesting as previous reports had said the Nokia 8 and not the Nokia 9′ model number is TA-1004.

Now the big question is if this is another variant of the Nokia 8, probably with a different memory configuration, or is this the original model number of the device? We will let you know when we confirm.

Up front, we have a physical home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner. At the top, there is the front facing camera on the left and Nokia’s logo on the right. It is hard to ignore the really thick bezels on this phone.

The Nokia 8 will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is expected to launch at the end of the month with a price tag of €598 (~$686/¥4652) in Europe.

Two of those devices are are high-end devices and according to leaks they will launch as the Nokia 8 and Nokia 9 respectively. Fresh details of the Nokia 8 were leaked early this morning by Roland Quandt.

According to him, the Nokia 8 is actually the HMD Global TA-1004 we saw on Geekbench a few months ago and not the Nokia 9. That device is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor, nullifying the rumor that the Nokia 8 will come with a snapdragon 660.

The Nokia 8 will have 4GB RAM, 64GB of built-in storage and will launch with two SIM card slots in Europe. There will most likely be a single SIM model if they keep to their current trend.

Another detail leaked is the color variants the phone will arrive in. There will be blue, steel (silver), gold/blue, and gold/copper colors. It is unknown if all the colors will be available at launch or if some will be released first and the rest later.

And last but not the least, pricing and release date. The Nokia 8 will be launched at the end of this month and will be available for purchase on the 31st of July. Price in Europe is put at €598 (~$686/¥4652). We never expected it to be cheap, so this isn’t surprising.

The Nokia 8 may actually sell for less in other markets especially China and we know devices are usually more expensive in Europe due to the high tax rate.

Other details not disclosed include the display size and camera configuration. Some say it will have a 5.7-inch 2K display and dual cameras but these may belong to the Nokia 9.

READ MORE: The Caviar-Made Nokia 3310 (2017) Putin-Trump Summit Edition Costs $2446

The Nokia 8 will face stiff competition from other manufacturers but has a few things going for it. First is the Nokia name which will help it sell. Second is the build quality which is bound to be higher than that of its competitors.

The Nokia 8 is listed for pre-sale on the popular e-commerce hub but the listing is a third party listing and the flagship carries a price tag of 3,188 Yuan ($463). The listing also did not state when the flagship would hit the shelves.

It is worthy of note that the Jingdong listing features images of the Nokia 8 or P1 is similar to those of the device’s concept render leaked earlier. Thus, it is unlikely that this is a genuine listing. We still don’t have any real live image confirming what the device looks like and it is doubtful if it would look like the concept.

On the specs end, the Nokia 8 is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chip, thus puncturing insinuations that it would launch at MWC. Perhaps, it would pack a Snapdragon 821 chip. The flagship device is also expected with a large 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The display is a flat-screen and not a curved display. Further, the device is also said to sport a powerful 24MP rear camera with OIS, and super EIS. There is also a 12MP sensor up front for selfie snapshots. On the memory aspect, the Nokia 8 is rumored to pack just two storage versions, one with 64GB storage and another with 128GB storage, both of which are expandable via microSD up to 256GB. It is expected that the Nokia P1 or 8 will come pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat since the Nokia 6 ships with Google’s latest mobile OS.

Indeed, during the launch of the Nokia 6 in China, HMD did tease that a true flagship device would be coming our way on February 26 at the Mobile World Congress 2017.

Not much is known about the expected flagship device but it has been revealed that it is known with the codename Nokia Supreme and may likely enter the market as Nokia 8, continuing the naming tradition of the Nokia 6. Curiously, the purported flagship was said to have been on display at Qualcomm’s booth at CES 2017, but only a few noticed it.

Read More: Nokia Hints at A Snapdragon 835 Phone Launching at MWC 2017

On the specifications, the leak reveals that the Nokia 8 would be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chip. Perhaps, that it is the reason it found its way into Qualcomm’s booth at CES. The flagship device is also expected with a large 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The display is a flat-screen and not a curved display.

https://youtu.be/RbQSJMFwZvY

In addition, HMD is also said to be putting together a Snapdragon 821-powered version of the flagship device with a slightly cheaper price tag. Going further, the device is also said to sport a powerful 24MP rear camera with OIS, and super EIS. There is also a 12MP sensor up front for selfie snapshots. On the memory aspect, the Nokia 8 is rumored to pack just two storage versions, one with 64GB storage and another with 128GB storage, both of which are expandable via microSD up to 256GB.
