HMD Global resurrected Nokia-branded smartphones with Android as the operating system. During its earlier days, the company was well-known for delivering software updates in a timely manner. With passing years and a growing portfolio, the firm began to fail in the only regard it was famous for. The Finnish company has now reached a situation that it had to cancel a promised update for its last premium phone.

Yesterday, HMD Global revealed that the Nokia 9 PureView will not receive the long-awaited Android 11 update. This device is part of the Android One program. Hence, it is supposed to get two Android updates and three years of security updates.

But unfortunately, the company has only managed to deliver a single Android update (Android 10) in late 2019 soon after the handset’s release. The phone was first scheduled to receive the Android 11 update in Q2 2021. However, it was later delayed to Q3 2021 and was never materialized.

Interestingly, HMD Global decided to announce the cancellation of the update on its 5th anniversary. The company cites ‘incompatibilities between the camera and the software’ as the primary reason to scrap the update.

In case you have forgotten, Nokia 9 PureView sports a penta-camera setup developed by Light. Since Light has exited the smartphone industry, there’s no way HMD Global could optimize for the camera for a newer version of Android.

Anyway, the handset will continue to receive security updates and users can avail a 50% discount on the Nokia XR20 to experience Android 11.

HMD Global has been quite slow with the roll-out of Android 11 to its devices. For a brand that brags about how great it is when it comes to software updates, this is disappointing. Now, a new Android 11 roadmap released by the manufacturers reveals the update will be arriving later for some phones.

According to the roadmap shared on the official Nokia Community forums, the rollout which was originally planned to end by the second quarter of 2021 will now end in the third quarter.

Devices such as the Nokia 9 PureView, the Nokia 7.2, and the Nokia 6.2 will now receive the Android 11 update in the third quarter of the year and it appears it will be towards the end of the quarter.

The Nokia 1 Plus, Nokia 1.3, and Nokia 1.4 which are all Android Go phones will get their updates in the second quarter along with the Nokia 5.3 that was originally supposed to get updated back in Q4 2020. The Nokia 3.4 and Nokia 5.4 are also among the devices getting the update this quarter.

Will HMD Global stick to this adjusted schedule? Only time will tell.

Some fifteen years ago, the Nokia brand was having an excellent run in the mobile phone market and the brand’s market dominance was thought to be insurmountable. However, the coming of Android OS and the subsequent migration to smartphones sounded the death knee for the Finnish phone maker.

Nokia made a resurgence under HMD Global Oy with several smartphones and a focus on software security. The brand has a large catalogue of smartphones under its name ranging from budget to mid-range and flagship models. The Nokia 9 PureView easily stands out as the most outstanding smartphone HMD Global has manufactured yet.

The flagship model released last year comes with a penta-camera setup with a Time-of-flight (TOF) sensor at the rear. The setup didn’t turn out to be a success and Nokia had to sever ties with Light the company that developed the camera technology, but what you apparently don’t know is that Nokia had initially toyed with the idea of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

A netizen in China who was out searching for classic Nokia smartphones on Xianyu accidentally stumbled on the Nokia 9 engineering machine. In case you don’t know, Xianyu is a popular customer-to-customer buy-and-sell platform for secondhand goods in China, connected with the ever-popular Taobao. The device carries a price tag of 10,000 yuan (~1,512) but we can’t figure out why. For one, the device still bears a penta-camera setup as well as a sixth ToF sensor but in this case, there is a physical fingerprint scanner at the back.

Another cool aspect is that the frame of the engineering machine is inlaid with a gold border. Apart from these two features, the design and configurations are basically the same as the final Nokia 9 Pureview.

Light is the company behind the penta-camera setup on Nokia 9 PureView. The firm came into the spotlight when it launched its L16 camera in 2015. It entered the smartphone segment during the development of HMD Global’s 2019 flagship. Now, in 2020,  Light has revealed Android Authority that it has quit this industry.

The camera tech firm’s L16 camera was not much of success just like the Nokia 9 PureView. But soon after the launch of the handset, Light announced a separate partnership with Xiaomi and Sony respectively.

With Xiaomi, it was supposed to develop camera tech for smartphones. Whereas with Sony, it had plans to work with its mobile camera sensors.

But now, as the company has announced to exit the smartphone industry, it is not sure if the above-mentioned partnerships will be continued. Light is yet to give an official statement on the same.

Light had great ambitions for smartphones but its execution was not good enough and thus received poor reviews from media as well as end-users. In fact, the Finnish phone brand has still not released a successor to its last flagship smartphone.

Nokia did hint earlier today that it has some surprises line out for its product launch event scheduled to hold in London on March 19. We are not too sure but the Nokia 9.2 PureView may be one of the surprises. Even if it isn’t, Nokia is expected to unveil a next-generation model of the Nokia 9 PureView that was launched last year packing a spectacular Penta-camera design.

Popular concept creator Ben Geskin has dished out a cool concept design said to be that of the Nokia 9.2 PureView, a successor to the Nokia 9 PureView. The design is basically a product of Geskin’s imagination and isn’t based on leaks or anything of that sort. However, the design draws inspiration from the Nokia 9 PureView.

The moniker falls in line with rumours that Nokia will skip calling the next model Nokia 9.1 PureView for some unknown reasons. Such rumors have been popping up online for quite some time now. The Nokia 9 PureView was announced back in February last year, but its successor still has not arrived.

Talking of the design, the concept envisions a device with a full-screen design with perfect symmetry. That means there will be no notch and there is no sign of a hole-punch either. The 9.2 PureView is envisioned to feature an under-display selfie shooter, something that is yet to find its way into any smartphone. A Xiaomi exec recently said that under-display cameras are not yet ready for primetime. On the bright side, Vivo utilised the under-display camera design on the APEX 2020 Concept phone that was unveiled last week. So, the display design may go commercial this year. We’ll see what happens.

All the physical keys are located on the right-hand side of this concept smartphone. The backside of the device reminds us of the Nokia 9 PureView but there are only four camera sensors housed in a round module. The camera module protrudes on the back, and below it, you’ll notice an LED flash. Nokia’s logo is also placed on the back and the panel also has curved edges.

The concept creator didn’t reveal any details of the specs but the Nokia 9.2 PureView should pack a Snapdragon 865 processor. The phone will also include a large RAM and ZEISS optics as well as Android 10 OS.

Initially priced at Rs. 49,999 (~$695), the device is now priced at Rs. 34,999(~$487). The Rs. 15,000 (~$208) discount can be availed at both online and offline dealerships across the country. The Finnish firm is yet to announce whether the updated price is a limited period deal or will last indefinitely.

This is the first price drop for the Nokia 9 PureView following its launch back in July 2019. The company has listed the handset with no-cost EMI benefits for up to 9 months on certain credit cards. The device is available in a single shade of blue. The sudden price drop could indicate the arrival of the much-hyped Nokia 9.2 PureView, which is rumored to sport the world’s first under-display selfie camera. The year 2019 is coming to end and the smartphone technology has improved vastly this year. Along with the in-display fingerprint sensor and different types of display design, another major thing that became mainstream was Night Mode.

Although Night Mode feature for low-light photography was mainly limited to premium flagship smartphones, this year the smartphone manufacturers started offering the same with their mid-range devices as well.

However, HMD Global‘s Nokia 9 PureView, which comes with a penta-camera setup on the back panel, and touted as the company’s flagship smartphone with impressive camera performance, doesn’t feature Night Mode.

Explaining the reason behind the lack of Night Mode on the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone, HMD’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas said that since the company is using Light technology, it is very difficult for the company to make changes in the phone’s camera.

He explained that due to the camera subsystem design, they cannot leverage “low light algorithm” on top of Light technology’s fusion algorithm that the system already has. He advised that in other lighting conditions, if the user gets .jpeg result they don’t like, then keep .dng (RAW) capture and revisit the same in Lightroom.

As for the specifications, the phone features a 5.99-inch OLED display that carries support for 2880 x 1440 pixels Quad HD+ screen resolution and comes with 18:9 aspect ratio, HDR10, and always-on display.

The update brings Smart Reply, new gesture navigation, dark mode, more controls over privacy and location data, and family link settings under Digital Wellbeing.

With the Nokia 9 PureView out of the way, the Nokia 7.1 is now next in line to get the update this quarter.

The Nokia 9 PureView was launched in February. It has a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage with no support for expansion. The display is a 5.99-inch P-OLED panel with a 1440 x 2880 resolution.

The phone’s selling point is its 6 rear cameras – five of which are 12MP sensors (2 are RGB and the remaining are Monochrome sensors). The 6th camera is a TOF 3D camera. It also has a 20MP selfie camera.

The Nokia 9 PureView has an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 3320mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging and 10W wireless charging. When the phone launched, it ran Android 9 pie out of the box.

Nokia is set to announce a new phone today in Egypt today but it most likely won’t be a flagship phone.

A report that had surfaced few months ago had revealed that the HMD Global is working on the successor for Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. The report had revealed that the Finnish firm may launch the Nokia 9.1 PureView smartphone by the end of this year. However, industry insider Nokia anew has claimed that the Nokia 9.1 PureView will not be made official until the second quarter of 2020.

HMD Global is known for announcing new phones at Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech exhibition that is held in the first quarter of each year. However, on the basis of the fresh information it can be said that the Nokia 9.1 PureView may not get announced at the MWC 2020 event. The reason behind the delay of the smartphone’s arrival is not known yet.

The Nokia 9 PureView that was made official in MWC 2019 earlier this year featured Snapdragon 845 chipset. While the SD845 is a good chipset, it was disappointment to see HMD Global use an outdated SoC for it instead of the Snapdragon 855 that powered most flagship phones this year. The Nokia 9.1 PureView may arrive with Snapdragon 855 chipset when most flagship phones in the coming year will be equipped with Snapdragon 865.

The leaked details that had appeared in July had claimed HMD Global will continue to work with Light’s camera technology for the Nokia 9.1 PureView. The smartphone is expected to deliver better low-light performance and better videography capabilities. The smartphone may feature a punch-hole display and is expected to run on Android One edition of Android 10. Also, the Nokia 9.1 PureView is expected to arrive with support for 5G connectivity.

Nokia 9 Pureview holds a record that no other smartphone has ever come close to surpassing since it was launched in February 2019. That is the penta-camera setup with a whopping five cameras at the rear and two cameras for selfies, making a total of seven cameras. The camera samples we’ve seen clearly show this setup isn’t a gimmick. But that isn’t the only spectacular thing about the Nokia flagship. Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame has now subjected the Nokia 9 to his famous durability test and it passed!

Nokia’s towering reputation has its basis on the solid build the company’s mobile phones were known for even before the Android era. The Nokia 9 PureView indeed keeps to that reputation going by the durability test result.

The test begins with the scratch test using the Moh’s hardness scale. The scratch test doesn’t really reveal anything out of the ordinary. Since there is a Gorilla Glass protection over the screen, the device will scratch at similar levels on the Mohs hardness scale. The device was also subjected to the rather pointless flame test which turns the AMOLED pixels white after around thirty seconds, and they never fully recover.

The one that interests us the most is the bend test. The Nokia 9 PureView glass panel holds on solidly when pressure is applied on the back and front. The glass at the back slightly separates from the frame when the pressure is increased, perhaps due to weak adhesive but there is no irreversible damage to the phone. The screen still works fine.

Nokia 9 PureView and its astonishing camera department just debuted in the Indian market. Despite it did not catalyze a lot of attention, this is definitely among the most impressive camera phones of 2019 and it is even the first device with a Penta camera setup on its back. Despite being a perfect phone for photography-addicted, it is also an affordable flagship and, given that it made its debut in the huge Indian peninsula, we think it is time to compare it with other competitive flagships of 2019. We chose the Honor 20 Pro and OnePlus 7 due to their great camera capabilities and their pretty affordable price tags compared to other flagships.

Design

Despite it boasts an amazing build quality, Nokia 9 PureView does not focus on design and look. It has a very elegant glass back, but there are too many holes on it and also thick bezels around the display. OnePlus 7 is just a slight upgrade of the OnePlus 6T and it is almost identical when it comes to aesthetics, nothing so exciting even in this case. The real interesting one is Honor 20 Pro which has a punch-hole display and very slim bezels. It is even the most compact one, so it fits very nice in a pocket and it is easier to use with one single hand. But note that Nokia 9 PureView is the only water resistant phone thanks to the IP67 certification (not the highest level of water resistance, but it withstands temporary immersions up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes).

Display

While Nokia 9 PureView has not exactly the best design, it comes undoubtedly with the best display. Despite it is an 18:9 panel, it boasts a higher resolution than its rivals (Quad HD+ with 1440 x 2880 pixels) and it is even HDR10 compliant, so it has an amazing color reproduction. Now it is up to you deciding whether it is worth to get thicker bezels for a better display or not. The silver medal goes to the OnePlus 7 which still comes with an OLED display just like the Nokia 9 PureView, but it has a lower resolution and it is not HDR-compliant. Honor 20 Pro has a midrange-class IPS panel which is its weakest point if we compare it with other flagships.

Hardware/Software

OnePlus 7 wins the hardware comparison simply because it is equipped with a stronger processor. We are talking about the Snapdragon 855 by Qualcomm running at a higher 2.84 GHz frequency and including a better GPU. Right after, there is Honor 20 Pro which is equipped with a Kirin 980 and 8 GB of RAM, while the last place goes to the Nokia 9 PureView and its old-gen Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with just 6 GB of RAM. But Nokia 9 PureView is still very fast and constantly updated as it is part of the Android One program.

Camera

My favorite one when it comes to the camera department is the Nokia 9 PureView because of its Penta camera including 2 RGB sensors and 3 monochromatic sensors. All the sensors can work at the same time and they capture an impressive amount of light and advanced depth information. Thanks to this device, you can make professional shots which you can edit in an advanced way. If we talk about photo quality, Honor 20 Pro is more or less at the same level with its 48 MP, the brightest focal aperture ever seen on a  mobile phone (f/1.4), a dedicated macro camera and even a better selfie camera than Nokia 9 PureView.

Battery

Given that it packs a way bigger battery than both OnePlus 7 and Nokia 9 PureView, as well as a smaller display, Honor 20 Pro wins the battery life comparison. Right after, there is OnePlus 7, while Nokia 9 PureView has just an average battery.

Price

While Nokia 9 PureView and Honor 20 Pro carry a €600/$675 starting price tag (it varies depending on the market), OnePlus 7 starts from €550/$620. If I had to choose the best device for most of the consumers, I would go for the Honor 20 Pro due to its better design, bigger battery, and impressive cameras.

Tweets showcasing the prowess of the penta-lens setup of the phone are now being released by the Finnish firm in the county. All the tweets are claiming that the smartphone is “coming soon,” but there is no word on its launch date. According to 91mobiles, the Nokia 9 PureView won’t be available for purchase this month.

The publication claims an HMD Global distribution partner from India has revealed to it that even though the Finnish firm is saying that the phone launches in India in this month, the smartphone will be made available for purchase in August. The Nokia 9 PureView had originally debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech trade show in February this year. In March, HMD Global had teased the arrival of the Nokia 9 PureView in India. However, its launch was delayed. According to the HMD Global executive, the launch of the Nokia 9 PureView has been delayed in India because the brand wants to “serve the market with what is relevant to the market.”

The phone will go on sale in Thailand from 5th July, exclusively through online retailer Shopee Mall. In Thailand, the Nokia 9 PureView is priced at THB18,900, which roughly converts to $615.

The Nokia 9 PureView was originally announced at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in February this year. The highlight of the smartphone is that it comes with five camera sensors on the phone’s back panel, enhancing the photography experience.

The smartphone comes with a glass rear and an aluminum frame. It is an IP67-rated water-resistant and dustproof device. It is fitted with a 5.99-inch OLED display that carries support for 2880 x 1440 pixels quad HD+ resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio, HDR10, and Always-on display.

HMD Global recently announced the Nokia 9 PureView for the Taiwanese market alongside its upper-midrange sibling, Nokia X71. However, the company didn’t reveal its price tag at its launch last month. Now, the flagship finally went on sale in Taiwan today and starting 2 p.m. local time it is up for grabs on the Taiwanese Nokia official store. So, we finally know its price tag: NT$20,990, that is equivalent to about 4500 Yuan at the actual exchange rate. So, the handset is way more affordable than in Chinese stores, as its listing price in China is 5499 Yuan ($827).

In case you are not from these two countries, 4500 Yuan translates into about €600/$670, while 5499 Yuan is equal to about €732/$816. In each case, Nokia 9 PureView is cheaper than the most powerful Samsung and Huawei phones, but is it worth choosing it instead of other Chinese affordable flagships?

Well, it boils down to your needs. If you want an amazing camera setup that can potentially replace a professional one, then the Nokia 9 Pureview is the right choice for you. The phone is equipped with an impressive penta-camera setup on its rear side, which includes 2x 12 MP RGB sensors and 3x 12 MP B/W sensors, including a TOF camera and Carl Zeiss lens.

Two weeks after it was officially launched, the Nokia 9 PureView is now available for purchase in China. The phone was announced on the 15th and went on pre-order on the 19th of April.

The Nokia 9 PureView (6GB+128GB) is sold by JD.com for ¥5499 (~$817) which is pretty expensive for a Snapdragon 845 device. There are a lot of options out there such as the Snapdragon 855-powered Samsung Galaxy S10 (8GB+128GB) sold for ¥5999 (~$891) and the Kirin 980-powered Huawei P30 Pro (8GB+128GB) sold for ¥5488 (~$815). Even with the five rear cameras on the Nokia 9, HMD Global is going to have a hard time winning buyers over.

The Nokia 9 PureView is the first phone with five rear cameras. Unlike other manufacturers that use a combination of different lenses (ultra-wide angle, telephoto, depth) for their multiple cameras, the Nokia flagship uses the same 12MP f/1.8 cameras with two being RGB sensors while the other three are monochrome sensors for better low-light images. The phone fuses all the shots taken with each camera into one impressive photo.

The Nokia 9 PureView has a 5.99-inch P-OLED display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There is a fingerprint scanner under the display too. The Snapdragon 845 is the SoC under the hood and there is 6GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage.

One of the major complaints of the Nokia 9 PureView is its unreliable fingerprint scanner. Last week, HMD Global Oy finally released an update that is said to fix the issue with the scanner. While some reported things have improved, the update appears to have broken that of another user. The phone practically unlocks using anything.

The affected owner who goes by @decodedpixel on Twitter shared a video showing the issue with the Nokia 9’s in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone was unlocked with an unregistered fingerprint and even a packet of bubble gum! He even adds that he was able to unlock it with a coin and leather gloves too.

Yeah I contacted Nokia support and I deleted all fingerprints and started scanning new fingerprint again. Still the same issues.

The issue didn’t go away even after re-enrolling a new fingerprint. There is no statement yet from HMD Global on the issue.

One thing we did notice is that there is a glass screen protector on the device. While screen protectors do interfere with the performance of in-display fingerprint scanners, it shouldn’t actually be unlocked by anything but require multiple attempts to be unlocked by the right fingerprint.

HMD Global might have to release another update that fixes the issue if its a widespread one or replace the phone or get it fixed if it’s just this user that is affected.

Nokia is rolling out a new software update for Nokia 9 Pureview with several new improvements. The Android 9 Pie based build v4.22c also brings April security patch. According to the official changelog, the new update is aimed to improve system stability, bring UI improvements, and enhances security.

The update weighs 250.4 MB in size bearing an increment in the firmware version. Users are reporting some additional optimizations resulting in camera app speed improvements. Its in-display fingerprint sensor has become faster and responsive after the update. Face Unlock is also optimized and now unlocks device much faster.  However, other changes include better skin tones, accurate screen colors, improved image processing while snapping photos using native camera app.

The over-the-air update is rolling out for Nokia 9 Pureview globally. We suggest charging your device at least 60% for a smooth upgrade rollout and connect to the WiFi network to save additional costs using carrier data.

Nokia 9 Pureview is coming to India very soon, and already it is made official in China for 5499 Yuan (~$820). It is all known for its penta rear camera module featuring all 12MP f/1.8 Zeiss optics sensors. The phone snaps photos from all the five cameras and later output a  single detail-rich image. Earlier today, HMD Global launched the much awaited Nokia 9 Pureview flagship in China. It is the world’s first smartphone to feature five cameras at the back and considering the pricing of the device, it’s clear that the Nokia 9 will take on the recently released Huawei P30 Pro.

The new Nokia flagship is priced at 5499 Yuan (~$820) for its 6GB+128GB version in China. What’s interesting is that this makes it more expensive than the 8GB + 128GB (5488 Yuan) variant of the Huawei P30 Pro! This definitely puts the new Nokia flagship in a very tight spot, even if it’s backed by the power of five cameras.

The Nokia 9 Pureview is all about the camera experience. The five cameras at the back are all 12MP f/1.8 sensors and feature Zeiss optics, unsurprisingly. Further, the camera technology is powered by Light, the company known for its 16 lens camera called the L16. The phone takes photos from all the five cameras together and fuses them together to churn out a rich photo sample.

It’s also worth mentioning that this five-camera setup is flat, without any camera bumps. Only two of these cameras are RGB, while three others are monochrome. The trio enables higher light input, resulting in better looking night photos. Further, the phone leverages depth information from all the five cameras to capture samples with some really deep bokeh shots.

HMD Global’s Nokia recently launched the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. The phone happens to be the first in the world to pack a Penta-lens camera. The camera samples shot by the Nokia 9 PureView has shown that the array of camera lens was not just mere gimmick but the image quality was impressive. The camera setup was the result of a collaboration between HMD Global Oy and Light and it uses computational photography for fusing and delivering the final image.

A Nokia patent has been spotted which showed that Nokia had a couple of other designs it was toying with. The patent application actually reveals three different Penta-lens camera module setup onboard the Nokia 9 prototype. Two of the designs have all their camera lenses remain of the same size while on the third one, the central sensor is larger than the others. The two designs having the same lens sizes, the position of the TOF sensor also differ. It remains to be seen if Nokia will utilise the other patented designs on the successor to the Nokia 9 which is rumoured to land in Q3 2019.

HMD owned Nokia went official with Nokia 9 Pureview couple of weeks back. It followed with the announcement of other Nokia smartphones such as Nokia 210, Nokia 1 Plus, Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2. Among all these, Nokia 9 Pureview is the only high-end device featuring the first ever rear Penta camera module. It’s available across various countries for over a week now and even few issues have sprawled up. To ensure a great experience while using Nokia 9 Pureview, HMD has announced that an update is in works for two major bugs.

While talking about the new update, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, acknowledged the unreliable in-display fingerprint sensor issue. He emphasized that the company will try to improve the experience by mending the bugs. Since launch, many users also complained about the camera app crashes on low battery. The cause behind sudden app crashes is either related to low voltage or switching of the device’s profile.

“With more users out there, we’ve seen a few camera crashes due to battery voltage drop when charge is low. We will address this,” wrote Sarvikas.

Nokia has not confirmed any other detail about the software update. However, going with the company’s track records, we need not wait for long.

Additionally, Nokia 9 Pureview is currently available in the US and some European countries. Its launch in India and China is still pending.

As far as the specifications are concerned, Nokia 9 Pureview comes with a 5.99 inch Quad HD POLED display and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Its display carries 18.5:9 aspect ratio and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The company has packed a Penta-camera module on the smartphone which houses a five 12 megapixel sensors – three monochrome sensors and two are RGBs. All sensors concurrently shoot images and later compile together for a better final output. A 20-megapixel selfie shooter is present on the front side.

HMD Global went official with the flagship Nokia 9 PureView a couple of weeks back. The standout feature on the device was definitely the Penta camera setup onboard. Even though the device comes with last year’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, the camera setup that promises beautiful things steals the show. The Penta-lens setup of the Nokia phone includes two 12-megapixel RGB sensors and three monochrome 12-megapixel sensors. The device also has dual-LED flash and a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor at the back. 

A teardown video of the Nokia 9 PureView has been published online, thanks to Youtube channel PBK Reviews. The video takes us through a set by step process of the teardown. Apparently, you’ll need a heat gun, and pry tools to open up the glass back of the device to reveal the internals. You may want to use only a plastic pry tool so as not to damage the glass. Gently heat the glass back to softens the adhesives, making it easy for the back to be separated from the mid-frame. You may also use a suction cup to pull the back slightly so as to get some leverage to insert the pry tool in order to separate the glass back. Removing the back reveals the entire internals, including the wireless charger.

One visible thing you’ll notice after removing the back is that the glass panel is firmly fixed to the frame with lots of adhesives, apparently to improve its water resistance. In addition, there are thirteen Philips screws holding a plastic cover which also holds the wireless charger. After removing the screws, the cover can then be pried off. When the cover is off, the battery can then be disconnected and removed. Also visible is some liquid damage indicators. You also get access to the five camera sensors with three of them arranged vertically at the middle and two on the horizontal side between the third and fourth sensors. You’ll still have to disconnect the battery and other connected parts from the motherboard and remove some screws in other to see the Vapor chamber underneath, the midframe and the fingerprint sensor attached to the screen. As you would recall, the Nokia 9 is the first Nokia phone that comes with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. 

Overall, the disassembly video shows the Nokia 9 PureView may be easy to repair but that will require some care and patience. You can check out the video from below.

We like its aesthetics even because it comes with a very clean rear side, thanks to the presence of an in-display fingerprint reader. Nokia 9 PureView is not the most beautiful device due to its thicker bezels and the presence of several holes on the back due to its penta-camera setup, but it is the only with water resistance.

Display

Nokia 9 PureView should have the display with the best view quality. First of all, it comes with a higher resolution: 1440 x 2880 pixels, for a higher level of detail. Further, it is HDR10-compliant, so it should offer a very nice color reproduction. However, Xiaomi Mi 9 and Honor Magic 2 3D still come with wonderful displays. They are just Full HD+, but they are HDR10-compliant as well, and they even have DCI-P3 coverage. All the handsets come with a fast and advanced in-display fingerprint reader.

Hardware/Software

Xiaomi Mi 9 comes with a more powerful chipset and it has a better hardware department overall. It is equipped with a faster Snapdragon 855 SoC and up to 8 GB of RAM. Camera

The most impressive camera department is definitely the one found on the Nokia 9 PureView, that is the first phone with a penta-camera setup. It includes 2x RGB sensors and 3x monochromatic sensors that are able to work simultaneously, alongside a 3D TOF camera which captures depth information. Battery

Honor Magic 2 3D has the biggest battery but it is not said that it lasts more. Nokia 9 PureView may come with better software optimization and it may surprise you, but we still did not test its battery life, so we can not give a definitive verdict.

Price

I would prefer the Xiaomi Mi 9 in this comparison due to its higher value for money, more powerful hardware and its good cameras. It costs just €450 in the global market, while Honor Magic 2 3D starts from €500 in Asia and Nokia 9 PureView will cost €620.

On Sunday, HMD Global had announced couple of smartphones such as Nokia 210, Nokia 1 Plus, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 9 PureView. Except for the last one, others are all budget-friendly devices. The Nokia 9 PureView is the world’s first smartphone to feature five rear-mounted cameras. A Chinese publication has shared couple of sample shots that were captured using the Nokia 9 PureView handset.

The back panel of the Nokia 9 PureView has 7 round-shaped cutouts on its rear shell. It includes an LED flash, a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor and the remaining are five 12-megapixel sensors. The ZEISS branded penta-lens setup include a pair of 12-megapixel RGB sensors and three 12-megapixel monochrome sensors.

When a user snaps a photo using the Nokia 9 PureView, all the five camera sensors function simultaneously to capture the image with different exposure like the Light L16 camera that features 16 camera sensors. Multi-frame synthesis algorithm kicks in to synthesize an image with topnotch quality.

The five cameras can collect tenfold more light than a conventional camera setup. Also, the presence of a ToF sensors creates a depth map for depth of field rendering. The publication that has shared the camera samples of the Nokia 9 PureView has claimed that the Nokia 9 PureView is equipped with Light’s ISP since Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor synthesis of up to three shots. Nokia 9 PureView comes preinstalled with Lightroom. By using it, users can edit the RAW photo.

HMD Global has been launching Nokia-brand smartphone since past few years and now the Finnish company is all set to launch its first true high-end flagship smartphone — Nokia 9 PureView.

The company will be attending the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) which is scheduled to kick-off from 25th February. However, like many other companies, HMD Global has also decided to launch its devices a day earlier, i.e. on 24th February.

The launch event will start at 16:00 local time in Barcelona. However, the company has also confirmed that it will be live streaming the event on YouTube as well as Facebook. However,  #GetSmart tagline and an 8-second teaser video posted on Twitter doesn’t reveal much information.

The Nokia 9 PureView has appeared as “Nokia 9” on Geekbench and confirms that it will be powered by the previous-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6GB of RAM. However, in the software department, it will have the latest Android 9 Pie OS pre-installed.

The 6GB RAM variant of the phone may come equipped with 128GB internal storage. The base model of the phone is expected to feature 4GB RAM along with either 64GB or 128GB internal storage. The 10nm Snapdragon 845 SoC is not as efficient as the new 7nm Snapdragon 855, but the highlighting of the phone remains the ZEISS optics enabled penta-camera setup.

Rumors suggest that the Nokia 9 PureView can shoot up to 64-megapixel resolution photos since it features a two 12-megapixel camera sensors, two 16-megapixel sensors and an 8-megapixel sensor. It is expected to come with a 5.9-inch display with a fingerprint sensor embedded inside the screen.

The FCC documents of the Nokia 9 PureView mentions three model numbers such as TA-1094, TA-1087 and TA-1082. The TA-1094 model is heading to China whereas the TA-1087 is the single-SIM global edition and the TA-1082 is the dual-SIM global variant.

The TA-1094 model was previously approved by 3C body in China through which it was confirmed that it carries support for 18W charging. Moreover, all three models mentioned here have been approved by the Bluetooth SIG body.

Through FCC it has been revealed that the Nokia 9 PureView will be available in at least Blue color and it will come preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo. In China, it won’t be selling as Android One device, but in the rest of the world markets it will. HMD Global already confirmed it will be attending this year’s edition of Mobile World Congress. One of the phones we expect the Nokia licensee to unveil is the Nokia 9 PureView. Official posters have surfaced and they confirm the arrival of the flagship along with the manufacturer’s first phone with a punch-hole display said to be the Nokia 6.2 or Nokia 8.1 Plus.

MWC 2019 begins officially on the 25th of February and runs until the 28th but manufacturers usually schedule their launches a day or two before the show begins. HMD Global will be doing the same this year as the Nokia 9 PureView will be unveiled on Sunday 24th February based on the details on the poster.

We know it is the Nokia 9 launching on that day because the poster shows the multiple camera sensors of the phone. The Nokia 9 PureView will have five rear cameras though the poster shows just four.

The second poster shows the silhouette of a phone with a punch-hole camera on the left corner of the display. At the moment, there are two Nokia phones said to have this type of display. Popular leaker, OnLeaks shared 3D renders of a phone said to be the Nokia 8.1 Plus a few weeks ago. However, another leaker claims it is not the Nokia 8.1 Plus but the Nokia 6.2 a.k.a. Nokia 6 (2019).

The Nokia 6.2 is said to pack a 6.2-inch display, a Snapdragon 632 processor, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 16MP dual rear cameras with Carl Zeiss lens, and Nokia OZO Audio. The leaker, @Nokia_Leaks also said it will launch end of January or February.

The previous Nokia 6 models launched first in China, so there is a high chance the phone will be announced there first before making its way to MWC 2019 for a global launch. However, HMD Global hasn’t said anything yet about an event in China.

The second poster doesn’t give a specific date the Nokia 6.2/Nokia 8.1 Plus will launch but it does state the date MWC begins and ends. The phone may be announced on any of these days.

HMD Global has official confirmed that it will be holding its keynote on Feb. 24, a day before the official start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech event. The announcement has come in the form of a simple tweet from HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas. Hopefully, the Finnish firm will be sending out official invites for the upcoming launch event. The company had launched multiple smartphones at MWC 2018 and MWC 2017. Hence, it is speculated to launch several new phones including the Nokia 9 PureView camera-centric phone on Feb. 24.

Nokia 9 PureView

It goes without saying that the Nokia 9 PureView is the one of the most anticipated smartphones of the recent times since it is heavily pegged to arrive with penta-lens camera setup. Recent reports have revealed that the Nokia 9 PureView will be the first phone from the company to come with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The device is speculated to be equipped with a 5.9-inch AMOLED display that is expected to produce 18:9 aspect ratio and Quad HD resolution.

The Snapdragon 845 chipset is rumored to power the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone along with 6 GB of RAM. There are some rumors that the company may release its Snapdragon 855 edition later this year.

The back panel of the phone will be featuring a dual camera setup with ZEISS branded 16-megapixel primary sensor. It will also carry support for OZO Audio technology. It will be receiving power from 3,000mAh battery. It is expected to land in Europe after it makes its debut in China.

Very less details on the specs of the Nokia 8.1 Plus smartphone have surfaced so far. It is expected to measure 156.9 x 76.2 x 7.9mm and house a 6.2-inch display.
