We have been hearing about HMD Global’s first smartphone since the last few weeks. It seems like the launch of the company’s device is imminent. Earlier today, the NokiaMobile account was renamed to HMD. Now HMD on its official website has put up another image of its first smartphone that is in line with the previously leaked image.

First official look at HMD phone

The image posted on HMD’s official website shows the company’s first phone in a Pink color option. It has a rectangular-shaped camera module in Black color. We could notice the phone with a boxy design. Additionally, the side frame appears to blend seamlessly with the back panel. The design of the upcoming smartphone from the company instantly takes us back to the Nokia Lumia era. The first HMD phone is also seen in a Blue color option though that does not reveal much.

HMD says that phones with its branding are coming soon. The company aims to make phones that stick around. This means phones that are durable, fun, fast, secure, and affordable. While the exact launch timeline of the HMD phone remains a mystery, rumors suggest that the company may announce its first devices at MWC in Barcelona, Spain later this month. The tech exhibition is set to commence on February 26.

Previously, a leaked promotional image of the HMD phone revealed a 108MP primary camera and support for OIS. Meanwhile, as per a leaked render of the smartphone, it will have a centre-aligned punch-hole display. Tipster Evan Blass has revealed that HMD has six phones in the pipeline codenamed Pulse, Legend, Pulse+, Legend Plus, Pulse Pro, and Legend Pro.

Microsoft China recently posted a series of videos on video sharing website Bilibili in China which individually showcases the entire Lumia lineup. The videos contain promotional teasers for a long lineup of Microsoft Lumia phones in the Lumia series. From the videos, the Nokia 650 is likely the last Lumia smartphone Microsoft will be selling. Recall that there are rumours Microsoft is killing the Lumia line in favour of a new Surface phone brand. The post accompanying the videos reveals that the videos are to commemorate the classic series which the company began in 2011. In addition, it reveals categorically that the Lumia series have been shelved.

While we are not sure of the emergence of a new Surface phone brand from Microsoft, the post contains the rider “let’s look forward”. This could be a reference to a new product line which could possibly be the Surface phone, just when we though Windows 10 devices are dead and buried. So, while the Lumia brand may be dead, that doesn’t mean Windows mobile is dead. We may likely be seeing the re-emergence of Windows mobile phones soon, not so soon anyway. A recent report has suggested that the company has postponed the launch of the Surface Phone to 2018.

We’ve heard the shocking news recently, that Microsoft announced it had agreed to buy Nokia Mobile divison. The acquisition agreement requires Microsoft to pay around $ 5 billion to buy entire division of Nokia devices and services, as well as an additional $ 2.2 billion to license Nokia patents.

What about that cause Microsoft bought former world number one mobile phone vendor, who currently already battered and still trying to get up?

Microsoft stressed that they did not dare to take the risk that Google or Apple will dominate the total application innovation, integration, distribution and emerging economies of the smartphone. To match the power of both, Microsoft openly stated that they need a first-class experience of using mobile phones for the users, and it is in Nokia.

In addition, a collection of patents owned by Nokia believed Microsoft is one of the most valuable collections in the technology sector, so this acquisition will accelerate Windows Phone innovation and protecting the future of the world’s number 3 platform.

Slowly but surely, Nokia has now started to attract more attention of consumers in the market with Lumia lineup. As the evidence, Lumia sales levels over time got more experienced additions in China which is the largest mobile market in the world.

In a recent statement, Nokia announced that they have sold as many as 2 million Lumia phones in the Chinese market. When compared with a portion of sales of Android phones or iPhones, 2 million units is very small.

Achievement of 2 million units were acquired in a not too long. Noted, Nokia launched Lumia phones in China on December 5, 2012 and 2 million could be achieved on March 5, 2013. Not surprisingly, Nokia is often announced that its flagship mobile phone stocks, Lumia 920, out of stock.

With this positive trend, there is the possibility China will again become an important market for Nokia. Especially now they also have some products that Lumia phones has a cheap price.

As the world’s biggest smartphone market, China is certainly a prime target for smartphone manufacturers. No exception for Nokia Lumia 920 and 820.

And Lumia 920 smartphone that has wireless charging technology which received a very positive response in China. This was evidenced by the existing the queue line on the Nokia Store, located in Shanghai, China.

Even the yellow version of the Nokia Lumia 920 sold out within just 20 minutes. This Lumia 920 sales is the second batch phase was done by Nokia in China. Previously, they also received good enthusiasm high response by consumers in China. This is the real evident about the analyst that says before about “Nokia will beat the HTC in Chinese market“.

The launch of the first phase is done by Nokia earlier last month. At that time, sales of Lumia 920 stocks finished in just 2 hours. And, at the same time, stock of Lumia 920 sold by Amazon specifically for the Chinese were out of stock in just half an hour.
