HMD Global officially launches an 8-inch tablet, names it Nokia T10

HMD Global revealed the Nokia T10 earlier today. This small tablet is advertised as having a strong, long-lasting design. It has an 8-inch HD display and is available in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models.

It is an Android Enterprise Recommended tablet and runs Android 12 out of the box. Additionally, the company has promised to provide this tablet with three years’ worth of monthly security upgrades.

The 5,250 mAh battery within the Nokia T10 tablet comes with 10W (5V/ 2A) charging. A Unisoc T606 SoC powers the Nokia T10 and it has 6 Cortex A-55 units for efficiency and 2 Cortex-A75 units for performance.

In the optics department, the tablet’s primary camera is an 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus and flash. A 2-megapixel front-facing camera is also there, and the tablet also supports Face Unlock technology.

The Nokia T10 sports a water-resistant design that is rated IPX2-rated. It has a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack and is available with either 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage of storage. There is also a MicroSD slot that can accommodate up to 512GB of storage.

The tablet supports Bluetooth v5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). Along with support for GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo navigation systems, the tablet also features an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and a built-in FM radio receiver.

Notably, the Nokia T10’s 8″ LCD, offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and is approved for Netflix HD. In order to enhance efficiency, the Nokia T10 can be used as a second screen as an extension of a PC display and has stereo speakers with OZO playback to give a good overall viewing experience while streaming.

Price and availability

The device will retail at $159 for the base model and comes in two variants: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE.

Nokia TA-1462 tablet with a 5,100mAh battery, 8″ display gets FCC certification

A potential Nokia tablet has been spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification website. The tablet could be the rumored Nokia T10. It has an 8-inch display and a 5,100mAh battery. The listed Nokia tablet has model number TA-1462 although there is no direct mention of the T10 moniker.

The Nokia T10 Tablet has been under the rumor spectrum and the latest FCC information. Nokia already has the T20 Android tablet and the model TA-1462 is probably the next Nokia tablet. The FCC certification usually indicates an imminent launch of the tablet although Nokia is yet to provide such details. The FCC listing detailed the screen size, battery capacity, connectivity options, and other specs of the device.

The Nokia T10 is expected to be a budget tablet like its predecessor. Hence display refresh rates around 60Hz will likely be available. The battery could provide up to 24 hours of activity while 10W charging could likely be supported. An 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera will be available on the new Nokia tablet. Connectivity options for the TA-1462 model include 4G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. There are no guarantees however that the spotted model is the rumored T10 tablet. The coming weeks will clarify these details when HMD Global announces its launch event.

Tipster provides a glimpse of the Nokia Senna tablet canceled in 2011

In the past few weeks, Nokia expert and tipster, Dimitros Vlachos had provided some inside details of a few Nokia phones that did not scale the hurdle of production. This week, Vlachos has added the Nokia Senna to this list, providing some details about the device which was canceled possibly after its development in 2011. Nokia had planned to replace its Symbian OS architecture with the MeeGo OS, and the Nokia Senna was also in development at the time.

The Senna was designed as a compact tablet based on the Nokia N9 design. However, the MeeGo ecosystem was abruptly discontinued as it was lacking in design and functionality behind the Android OS. A similar scenario led to the cancellation of the Senna production. The design concept of Senna was later to be deployed to the design of the WP8 tablet, although the Nokia 2520 that was released was also a great device.

Dimitros Vlachos has now provided some stunning live feeds of the canceled Senna tablet. Earlier in 2013, some images of the Senna surfaced online. Dimitros says the device was based on Sony-Ericsson’s Nova Thor chipset and it runs on vanilla MeetGo. As seen in the details provided by Dimitous, the Nokia Senna has similar UI and apps as found in the N9. The camera of the Nokia Senna is capable of recording 1080p videos, which is a great feat at the time of its development.

We could expect that Dimitros Vlachos may still have a few more unreleased/canceled Nokia models from the last decade. This is however not unconnected with the dynamics of the company at the time and its subsequent acquisition by Microsoft.

October is known to pack several tech announcements but this year may see the launch of fewer products judging by the large number of launches manufacturers squeezed into September. There are some highly anticipated announcements but they are not expected to happen until later in the month. Regardless, there are some exciting launches coming in the first week of October.

Android 12 – October 4

Google is expected to announce the stable release of Android 12 on Monday, October 4. Android 12 was first announced a few months ago but it has been in beta. The stable release for the general public is reported to be scheduled for release on October 4 and as expected it will be available first for Google’s own Pixel phones but we should see a few manufacturers also release the stable update for a few of their devices on the same day.

Windows 11 and Office 2021 – October 5

Microsoft will officially release the latest version of its operating system called Windows 11 on October 5. The OS was first unveiled a few months ago with a promise for a release to the general public on October 5. The new operating system will bring a visual overhaul, redesigned apps, improvement in performance, and Android app support to millions of Windows users across the globe.

Microsoft will also announce Office 2021, the latest version of its suite of productivity apps for consumers on the same day. The new software suite will come with features such as a new UI that goes in line with Windows 11, dark mode, new excel functions and formulas, new recording features for Powerpoint, and real-time collaboration as is available on Microsoft 365.

Nokia T20 Tablet – October 6

Come October 6, HMD Global will announce the first Nokia Android tablet since it got the license to manufacture Nokia-branded phones. The tablet is expected to launch as the Nokia T20 and according to the manufacturer, it will come with all of the features we have come to love on the current Nokia smartphones.

HMD Global, the licensee for Nokia Mobile, announced last week that it has an event scheduled for October 6. The tweet didn’t reveal what the product will be but many have guessed that it is a tablet. Today, it has shared a new teaser that confirms it will indeed launch a tablet on that day.

The launch of the tablet was confirmed by the Nokia Mobile Twitter account with a caption that reads “Everything you’d expect from a Nokia phone in a tablet. Coming 6.10.21”. Based on the caption, we can expect the tablet will run a stock version of Android out of the box. It should also receive software support for a duration similar to Nokia’s Android phones, probably two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates.

Attached to the tweet is an image of the Nokia 3310 (2017) and the upcoming tablet. The photo doesn’t reveal much about the device save for a glimpse at the design. We can see the frame is flat and has rounded corners and the tablet has a dark gray/black finish. It’s also pretty slim.

The tablet is expected to launch as the Nokia T20 and will have a display that measures 10.36 inches, a Unisoc processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and support for 10W charging.

Nokia Vega cancelled tablet’s prototype appears in leaked videos

Finland-based HMD Global is advertising and selling Nokia-branded smartphone since December 2016. Prior to that, Nokia was acquired by Microsoft in 2014. Before the acquisition, Nokia was reportedly working on tablets which didn’t see the light of the day.

While the company has launched one tablet so far — Nokia N1, the other tablets carrying codenames Illusionist, Mercury, Pine, and Vega/Atlas were canceled. Now a few videos have surfaced online revealing the prototype of Nokia ‘Vega’ tablet in action.

The video shows Nokia Vega tablet carrying model number RX-107. The tablet featured humongous bezels, especially comparing it with the current generation of tablets that focuses on slimmer bezels. Given that the tablet was to launch in 2014, we can look past those bezels.

As for the specifications, the Nokia Vega sports a 6.6-inch display and was powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It packed 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with support for memory expansion.

The device was running Windows RT operation system, which was a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft. It was an edition of Windows 8.X build for the 32-bit ARM processor-based devices. The ‘Vega’ tablet also featured an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1-megapixel front-facing snapper.

Currently, HMD Global has no plans of launching tablet devices. The Finnish company is currently focused on smartphones and seems like it is aiming to grab market share in the mid-range segment. Apart from launching new phones, the company also launched refreshed versions of some of its iconic older feature phones such as the Nokia 3310 4G and Nokia 8810 4G.

Likely Nokia Tablet with Snapdragon 835 Spotted on GFXBench

Recently, an unknown tablet device popped up on GFXBench with some spectacular specs lineup that looks too good to be true. It has now emerged that the unknown tablet could be a Nokia tablet.

The tablet was displayed to have an 18.4-inch touchscreen display with a whopping 2k resolution and is said to support at least 5 finger gestures. The screen size is coming as a bit of a surprise because at 18.4 inches, it is no longer a tablet but more of a laptop screen size. However, we’ll quickly acknowledge the fact that GFXBench’s screen size is not always accurate. It is possible the tablet has an 8.4-inch display.

The Nokia tablet is also listed as running Android 7.0 Nougat as well as being powered by an octa-core Qualcomm chip with a frequency of 2.2GHz said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. The processor is backed by 4GB of RAM and there is 64GB of internal storage. The camera is given as 12MP sensors both at the front and rear cameras. There is also support for WiFi, 4G LTE, NFC, GPS and many other features.

We don’t know for sure how true this is but Nokia is expected to release a Snapdragon 835-powered flagship smartphone at MWC 2017. The tablet could be among the gadgets that would be launched that day.
