Earlier today (1st July 2021), Nokia issued a response to the recent rumors that had surfaced, which claimed it would start to support Huawei HarmonyOS for its upcoming smartphones. The company has now officially denied this claim.

According to ThePaper report, the smartphone maker was rumored to be working on a new smartphone, namely the Nokia X60. However, rumors had surfaced that stated that the company would have this model support the Chinese tech giant’s proprietary operating system. Although now, the Finnish brand has denied this rumor and stated that the company is committed to offering an Android experience to its customers.

The firm added that “our commitment to providing the best Android experience remains unwavering.” This news arrives from some media reports that had initially claimed that the firm will launch its new X60 series of smartphones in the second half of this year. The lineup will include two new handsets, which would apparently feature HarmonyOS from Huawei. But now, this rumor has been clearly denied and we can expect the upcoming smartphones to feature the latest Android operating system.

For those unaware, the X60 lineup could be the company’s 2021 flagship and is expected to feature a curved edge display along with a massive 6,000mAh battery. The two phones are also expected to house a 200 megapixel primary shooter and other top end features. But unfortunately, not a lot of information regarding this series is known as of right now. Huawei recently announced HarmonyOS 2 developed as a cross-platform operating system. The Chinese company has beckoned on other Chinese phone makers to use the OS that it says is an alternative to the Android OS, but there has been no sign of too many OEMs swaying towards HarmonyOS’ direction. The only non-Huawei product that has been launched with HarmonyOS is Midea’s smart home products including a refrigerator. 

A rumor has emerged that Finnish phone maker Nokia will launch the Nokia X60 series later this year. That’s not even the part that makes this a spectacular story. What makes this surprising s that the models are rumored to run HarmonyOS out-of-the-box.

The rumor which was first reported by the Taiwanese media claims that the series will consist of the Nokia X60 and X60 Pro, both of which will be launched this year. The closest in the X series to these models are the Nokia X10 and X20 which are really not flagship models but are powered by the Snapdragon 480 chipset.

The Nokia X60 models are expected to feature a curved-edge display as well as a mammoth 6,000mAh battery. The models are also expected to pack a 200MP main shooter and several high-end features. This year we have seen quite a number of models launch with 100MP sensors. We expect more OEMs to shift their attention to the large sensors.

While we can’t verify the authenticity of this news, it could turn out to be true, but that may likely be for the models launched in China. For Nokia mobile, this is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity to rake in more sales as the models may likely perform well in China.
