Meizu is reportedly working on its upcoming flagship smartphone — Meizu Note 9. Now, the latest information related to the smartphone coming from Meizu Community Forum confirms that the device will be powered by a new “Snapdragon 6150” chipset from Qualcomm.

Further, it also reveals that the smartphone will come equipped with a 48-megapixel primary rear camera sensor. This is the same camera sensor that’s present in Honor V20 (aka Honor View 20) as well as Redmi’s upcoming smartphone scheduled to launch on 10th January.

The Snapdragon 6150 is not a commercial name of the chipset but it is being speculated that the processor could be Snapdragon 680 or 685 — the successor of SD670 or SD675. Reports indicate that the Snapdragon 6150 will be made using the 11nm process and could be manufactured by Samsung.

Going by the Snapdragon 600-series chipsets, it will be an octa-core processor with Adreno 600-series GPU and support for Full HD+ screen resolution. It is speculated to have support for Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, USB 3.1 and NFC, among others.

A couple of months ago, we reported that Qualcomm is working on SM6150 and SM7150 mid-range processors. Both are octa-core processors but with likely different GPU, CPU cores and or clock speeds.

As the name itself suggests, the Meizu Note 9 will be a successor to the Meizu Note 8 that was launched a couple of months ago in China, starting at 999 Yuan ($145). It’s a premium budget smartphone featuring a 6.15-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 632 chipset, along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. There’s a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup on the back and an 8MP front-facing snapper. It runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box and is powered by a 3,600mAh battery.

Samsung announced its flagship Galaxy Note 9 in China on August 15. Soon after, the Note 9 went up for pre-order on JD.com. Unlike other Chinese companies who allow free reservations on the site for sale, you had to pay 99 Yuan (~$14) in order to pre-order the device. Turns out, not many are willing to shell out the pre-order deposit for the new Note 9 on JingDong.

There are currently four variants of the Galaxy Note 9 on JD.com available for pre-order: 6+128GB storage option in three colors (Black, Blue, Copper) and 8+512GB option in one color (black). So far, the listing has received less than 1300 pre-orders for the device on the site. Considering the usual demand for a flagship like the Note series, this is definitely a lukewarm response from Chinese customers. The Frost Blue color seems to be the most pre-ordered variant on the site with over 500 registrations.

Samsung has been struggling in China in the past few years and this is yet another example of the company’s flagships failing to garner enough attention from customers in China. The Galaxy Note 9 is one of the most powerful handsets of 2018, however, apart from its innovative S Pen, the phone doesn’t have much to distinguish itself from the competition. Even Samsung’s variable aperture tech is coming on the upcoming OPPO R17 Pro flagship which is going to be much cheaper at launch.

Considering the hefty 6999 Yuan price tag for the Note 9, customers can go for a cheaper yet powerful option like the innovative full screen OPPO Find X (starts at 4999 Yuan ~$756) or the Huawei P20 Pro with triple cameras (starts at 4999 Yuan ~$756). Unless Samsung decides to slash down its price to somewhere near to its Chinese competitors, it will be tough for the Note 9 to do well in the highly competitive Chinese market.

The known hi-tech portal WinFuture.de in has published some official images highlighting the new features of the S Pen which will be included in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The phablet will be officially unveiled tomorrow, but we already know from now that its S Pen will be way more interesting than the previous model. The new pen will include Bluetooth connectivity, unlike the previous pens.

This will allow the user to remotely control the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 without having the pen stick to the phablet. Thanks to a dedicated button, it will be possible to shoot a photo remotely, control presentations or even third-party apps. It will also be possible to customize the S Pen key to do anything you want. According to the leak, the pen will have a finer tip and it will support 4096 pressure levels, that is the highest amount of pressure levels ever implemented on a mobile device. So, it will be possible to draw or handwriting with an extreme accuracy, similarly to paper.

Besides the details about the S Pen, the images confirm that the Note 9 will have an “Intelligent Camera” making it able to recognize scenes and adjust the colors, white balance and contrast. It will be even able to detect blink and bursts. Further, just like the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, the Galaxy Note 9 can be connected to an external monitor to enable DeX without a dock, just by using a cable. Obviously, the DeX dock remains more comfortable as it allows to connect external peripherals such as mouse and keyboards, it can charge the device and can even be used as a touchpad. At last, the images confirm the variable aperture of the camera just like the S9 line-up.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to go official on August 9 but it is yet to be confirmed when the device will be released. That has now been confirmed by a new pre-launch poster that was spotted in a carrier’s store in Korea. The poster indicated August 24th as the official release date in Korea and perhaps some other regions. The poster also revealed that the presale will commence on August 10, a day after the Galaxy Unpacked launch event.

As usual, those who pre-order the device would surely get their new phone first before others and the pre-order is bundled with lots of amazing gifts, such as cases, car chargers, grip rings, power banks, wireless pads and other items. Of course, not all of the gift items will be available in other countries outside South Korea.

Recent image leaks had revealed that Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may feature a physical button which will be placed on the lower part of the right side, at a noticeable distance from the power key and the volume rocker. The position is similar to the one of the physical camera button present on devices from the Sony Xperia line-up. Now, the first details about this physical button have started to surface. It looks like that the button will have multiple functions and it will not only be used to shoot photos like the classic button found on Xperia devices.

According to a new report from a known tech-related website, Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s physical button will be a shutter key to capture screenshot as well as a camera key. It can be used to open the camera app with a double tap, refocus on objects while the camera app is opened, shoot photos, record video and take a screenshot while the camera app is closed. However, take this with a pinch of salt as there is no official confirmation about this physical key.

But its existence on the upcoming flagship makes sense as Samsung is putting many efforts into improving the camera of its devices. Just to remind you, Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are the first smartphones to feature a camera with a variable aperture, which can adapt in a better way to all light conditions. A physical key will be another comfortable thing for users which will allow shooting photos in an easier way. In case you do not know, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to come with the same SoC as the Galaxy S9: Snapdragon 845 for the U.S. variant and Exynos 9810 for the EU version. According to leaks, the fingerprint reader will be now placed in a more comfortable position (under the camera).

In the past few years, there were many rumors about the names of the upcoming Samsung devices. Just to make an example: according to recent rumors, Samsung Galaxy S10 will be released as Galaxy X. After the Galaxy Note 7 was retired from the market due to its battery issues, rumors suggested that Samsung decided to put an end to the Note series: but it was not so. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been released with more powerful hardware than ever, and now, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been confirmed as well.

The trademarks of the most important Samsung devices always get registered in Colombia, and the upcoming phablet has been added to the list, which also contains Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9 and other devices already in commerce. Note that the listing only confirms the name of Samsung Galaxy Note 9, there is no info about its launch date, or its specs. The phablet is rumored to come in Q3 2018 just like its predecessors. It may be announced in August and it may be made available to purchase starting from September. Among the rumored specs there is an Infinity Display with a QHD+ resolution and a fingerprint reader placed in a more comfortable position than the Note 8.

According to reports, there will not be an under-display fingerprint reader like the one unveiled by Synaptics or present on the Vivo X20 Plus UD. The device should come with exactly the same SoC as the new Galaxy S9, that is the octa-core Samsung Exynos 9810 for the European version and the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 for the U.S. variant. There should be at least 6 GB of RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB of internal storage depending on the configuration that you will choose to buy. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is also rumored to sport a 12 MP dual camera and a battery with a capacity of more than 3300 mAh.
