<p>According to the report(via <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210209005291/en/Strategy-Analytics-Gaming-Remote-Work-Drove-Record-Notebook-PC-Demand-During-2020-Holidays"><em>Business Wire</em></a>), demand for Notebook PCs reached the highest level in Q4 2020. Accordingly, it clocked about 54% YoY(Year-Over-Year) growth in Shipments. What is more surprising is that ChromeOS has beaten MacOS to slot in second place with 16.4% of the share.</p>
<p>Analysts feel that despite a strong demand for e-learning People also looked for devices with a focus on entertainment during the Q4 2020. This meant that lighter OS like Chrome OS and Gaming-focused Notebooks sold in huge numbers. Assessing the conditions, the Holiday season offered huge discounts aiding the sale numbers more.</p>
<p>As for brands, Lenovo led the market with 17.9 million unit shipments and a 25.6% of the total Notebook PC market share. It&#8217;s worth noting that in the last Quarter(Q3), <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/17/global-notebook-pc-brand-q3-2020-strategy-analytics/">HP beat Lenovo</a> to take the top spot. Anyway, other brands like HP, Dell, Acer occupied 2,3, and 5th positions with 15.8, 11.5, and 5.6 million unit shipments with 22.6, 16.6, and 8.0% market share respectively.</p>
<figure id="attachment_370574" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-370574" style="width: 841px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-370574" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor.jpg?x44794" alt="Global Notebook PC Shipments Q4 2020" width="841" height="651" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor.jpg 841w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor-300x232.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor-768x594.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor-696x539.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-Vendor-543x420.jpg 543w" sizes="(max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-370574" class="wp-caption-text">Credit: Strategy Analytics</figcaption></figure>
<p>Speaking of growth, Although Lenovo made it to the top with a 24% YoY growth, HP grew the most with a 39% YoY over 2019. As for Apple, it shipped just 6.3 million units and as a result, captures only 9.1% of the market. Consequently, if you take the Notebook PC market in terms of OS, Windows leads the pack with a whopping 51.4 million units shipped in Q4.</p>
<p>Interestingly, as Analysts say, demand for Chromebooks rose in Q4 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/13/global-pc-market-q3-2020-canalys/">continuing the momentum from Q3</a>. It occupied about 16.4% of the Total share shipping nearly 11.4 million units which is about 5.1 million more than MacOS. As a result, it beats the latter and grabs the second spot in the Top-5 list.</p>
<figure id="attachment_370575" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-370575" style="width: 898px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-370575" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS.jpg?x44794" alt="Global Notebook PC Shipments Q4 2020" width="898" height="612" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS.jpg 898w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS-300x204.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS-768x523.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS-696x474.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Notebook-PC-Shipments-Q4-OS-616x420.jpg 616w" sizes="(max-width: 898px) 100vw, 898px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-370575" class="wp-caption-text">Credit: Strategy Analytics</figcaption></figure>
<p>Finally, going into 2021, companies are said to feel stress on the Supply chain owing to shortages of components and their rising costs.</p>

The conference will be held from 12:00 to 14:00 GMT+8 and will be broadcast live globally. Although the company didn&#8217;t announce the name of the product, the teaser shows a thin and light notebook with a sunken screen hinge and a very thin body may debut on that day.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio.jpeg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-368895" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio.jpeg?x44794" alt="vaio" width="1080" height="1440" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio.jpeg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-696x928.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-1068x1424.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-315x420.jpeg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></a></p>
<p>It can be seen from the poster that the hinge part of the new notebook is similar to the letter &#8220;Z&#8221;, so the new product to be released is expected to be the VAIO Z series. The new series is expected to be equipped with an OLED screen.</p>
<p>The VAIO brand previously belonged to <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> and became a separated entity from Sony Group in 2014 after it was sold. The brand did not enter the Chinese market due to market reasons after its independence but decided to return in August 2017.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2.jpeg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-368896" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2.jpeg?x44794" alt="" width="850" height="520" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2.jpeg 850w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2-300x184.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2-768x470.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2-696x426.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/vaio-2-687x420.jpeg 687w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /></a></p>
<p>Previously, a Weibo tipster @ZACKBUKS had rumored previously that &#8220;the new VAIO Z is coming.&#8221; This teaser poster just officially confirmed that rumor. VAIO Z series notebooks have not launched new products for a long time. This series is the flagship thin and light notebook. It has high-density packaging technology and heat dissipation design technology. The high-density layout of electronic components on the motherboard minimizes the size of the motherboard.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the heat dissipation system of the VAIO Z series notebooks is also the key to achieving high performance and efficient heat dissipation. Special cooling fans and heat dissipation ducts are used, and low-frequency speed units that can be independently controlled are used to prevent resonance and suppress noise.</p>
<p>We bring you more details of the product when it is officially unveiled.</p>

<p>A report by market research firm Strategy Analytics shows that the notebook market shrank by only -2% year-on-year in Q1 2020. The report predicts bigger challenges ahead as depressed consumer demand spreads across the world in Q2, leaving top notebook vendors in a precarious situation.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Q1_2020_Preliminary_Notebook_PC_Vendor_MS_Chart_5.7.20.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-322015" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Q1_2020_Preliminary_Notebook_PC_Vendor_MS_Chart_5.7.20.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="430" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Q1_2020_Preliminary_Notebook_PC_Vendor_MS_Chart_5.7.20.jpg 430w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Q1_2020_Preliminary_Notebook_PC_Vendor_MS_Chart_5.7.20-269x300.jpg 269w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Q1_2020_Preliminary_Notebook_PC_Vendor_MS_Chart_5.7.20-376x420.jpg 376w" sizes="(max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo">Lenovo</a> maintained the leadership of the notebook market with a gross shipment of 8.9 million units and a market share of 23.5%. HP followed closely with a gross shipment and market share of 8.1 million units and 21.3% respectively. Dell shipped 6.9 million units in Q1 2020, commanding an estimated 18.2% share of the market. Also in the top 5 is <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> with an estimated 3 million gross shipment and market share of 8%. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/asus">ASUS</a> completes the top 5 shipping 2.5 million units of notebook PC with an estimated 6.6% market share.</p>
<p>Chirag Upadhyay Senior Research Analyst stated, “Notebook vendors with a heavy reliance on China for its supply chain and those which did not have high levels of inventory before the COVID-19 outbreak had (the) most difficulty in Q1 on a global basis. From a consumer demand standpoint, the vendors which are most reliant on the Chinese domestic market experienced the biggest downturns. All of that aside, the notebook market only shrank -2% year-on-year and compared to most other consumer electronics segments, this should be considered a success in a very tough environment.”</p>
<p>Eric Smith, Director – Connected Computing added, “We expect that as COVID-19 spreads globally in Q2, large corporations and educational institutions will place more orders for notebooks to support work/learn-from-home initiatives around the world. As more families are stuck in their homes during quarantine orders, there are too few productivity devices for all members of a household to get their work done. Consumer demand will be soft as average people face economic hardship, but commercial demand could balance out that softness.”</p>

Now, some exciting new information about Xiaomi Notebook&#8217;s specs has emerged, revealing a lot about the upcoming device.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i5-14inch-mi-laptop.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-66786" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i5-14inch-mi-laptop.jpg?x44794" alt="i5-14inch-mi laptop" width="628" height="408" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i5-14inch-mi-laptop.jpg 628w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i5-14inch-mi-laptop-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i5-14inch-mi-laptop-600x390.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></a></p>
<p>The Xiaomi Notebook is said to come with pretty high-end specs, enough to take on the powerhouses from Dell and Apple. The laptop will reportedly come with an Intel Core i7 4th Gen chip with 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 2GB Graphics memory and Linux OS. This is in line with a<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/02/xiaomi-laptop-coming-early-next-year-will-compete-with-apple-macbooks/"> previous report which said that the specs of the laptop will be pretty high-end</a>.</p>
<p>The exact Xiaomi Notebook Specs leaked today are given below:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Operating System:</strong> Linux</li>
<li><strong>Processor: </strong>CPU series Intel Core i7 4-generation family</li>
<li><strong>RAM:</strong> 8GB</li>
<li><strong>Screen size:</strong> 15.6-inches</li>
<li><strong>Screen Resolution:</strong> 1920&#215;1080</li>
<li><strong>Screen technology:</strong> LED backlight</li>
<li><strong>Graphics chip:</strong> NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M</li>
<li><strong>Memory capacity:</strong> 2GB</li>
<li><strong>Price:</strong> 2999 Yuan ($466)</li>
</ul>
<p>The pricing is also the same as we heard before, i.e. 2999 Yuan. However, one thing that is new here is the display size. An earlier report said that there could be two laptops, one with a 12.5-inch display and the other with a 13.3-inch display. But this leak states the display as 15.6-inches, so which one is going to turn out to be true, we can&#8217;t say for sure at the moment.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/xiaomi-laptop-specs.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-66785" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/xiaomi-laptop-specs.png?x44794" alt="xiaomi-laptop-specs" width="605" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/xiaomi-laptop-specs.png 605w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/xiaomi-laptop-specs-300x198.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/xiaomi-laptop-specs-600x397.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px" /></a></p>
<p>The design is expected to be quite similar to the Apple Macbooks with an all metal body. <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/23/inventec-to-make-xiaomis-first-laptop-starts-shipping-by-h1-2016/">Inventec is expected to be the ODM</a> in charge of designing and manufacturing the device.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Xiaomi is yet to confirm the existence of a Notebook PC under development. But if it&#8217;s real, then expect more information about the device in the coming weeks.</p>
