The company had recently halted its Nothing OS 4.0 roll out due to critical bugs, but the update release is in full swing once again. This time around, the brand’s budget subsidiary phones, the CMF Phone 2 Pro and CMF Phone 1, are receiving this update. So here are all the details.

Nothing OS 4 is finally here for CMF Phone 2 Pro & CMF Phone 1

Back in November 2025, the Nothing OS 4.0 stable build was released on the Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus. Now, the company is expanding the supported list for the major software upgrade with the CMF Phone 2 Pro, CMF Phone 1, and Nothing Phone (3a) Lite.

In an official post on the Nothing Community forum, the Nothing OS 4.0 release was confirmed for these devices, bringing refreshed visuals, new customization options, and a more refined user interface. With the new update, Nothing aims to improve the core user experience while upgrading the overall features and functionality. The Nothing OS 4.0 custom skin is currently rolling out to the CMF Phone 1 today (26th December 2025), with the update rolling out in a staggered manner.

Meanwhile, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is receiving the update in the coming weeks, as a part of the next roll out phase. The company has further added that the Nothing OS 4.0 release timeline might vary between the regions. So it’s not uniform across the globe. So you can head to settings and manually check if you’ve received this update.

The stable rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 began last month, starting with the Nothing Phone 3, and it quickly expanded to the Phone 2, Phone 2a, Phone 2a Plus, Phone 3a, and Phone 3a Pro towards the end of November. However, many users are still waiting for their turn to receive the Android 16 update.

In the midst of users reporting delays in the rollout, a screenshot of a chat with Nothing’s support team surfaced on Reddit, leading to further disappointment among users awaiting the update. The screenshot (see it on Reddit) suggested that the Nothing OS 4.0 rollout has been temporarily suspended due to critical bugs requiring an urgent fix.

Finally, we now have an official update from Nothing’s team on the matter (via Android Authority). Here’s the official statement:

So, Nothing has completely denied any claims regarding the rollout suspension. Instead, the company says the rollout is progressing as planned. If you’re among those waiting for the Nothing OS 4.0 update, note that the brand employs a phased rollout for every major upgrade, which means it may take some time for the update to reach all users. You can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > System > System updates.

Nothing has started the stable rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 for all eligible devices. The update was first released last week, and it is now officially available for the Nothing Phone (2), Nothing Phone (2a), and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. The Phone (2) is receiving firmware version B4.0-251119-1654. The Phone (2a) is getting B4.0-251120-1747, and the Phone (2a) Plus is getting B4.0-251120-1812. Before initiating the update process, it is advised that users back their photos, contacts, call logs, and other data.

Nothing OS 4.0 brings several new features. Apps can now be hidden directly from the home screen and the app drawer, and all hidden apps can be found under Hidden icons in the app drawer. The app drawer also supports search scope control, which lets users choose what the search results should include. The Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time widgets now have more size options. Most Quick Settings tiles now support a 2×2 layout. Pop-up view can hold two floating icons for easier switching, and the system adds a new app optimisation setting to speed up app startup times.

A new feature called Playground (Alpha) is included. It offers community-built content such as Essential Apps, Camera Presets, and EQ Profiles. Essential Apps (Alpha) are also open for download and use AI to offer simple tools created by the community.

There are several visual updates as well. Nothing’s app icons have been redesigned. The status bar icons now look clearer. The lock screen password page gets a wallpaper blur effect. Two new lock screen clock faces are available under Customisation. A new extra dark mode adds a deeper dark appearance. Some transition animations have also been improved.

Glyph Interface settings now allow users to choose whether Flip to Glyph activates Silent mode or Vibrate mode. Glyph Progress now uses Android 16 Live Update notifications for better support in third-party apps.

The camera gets new preset styles, filters with intensity controls, longer Motion Photos with audio, new watermarks, and a cleaner interface. The phone may heat up briefly after installing the update, but it will return to normal soon.

Nothing has started rolling out the stable Nothing OS 4.0 update based on Android 16 for the Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. The company shared the update details on its community page. Both phones are receiving the build with version number Nothing OS B4.0-251118-1551. The rollout is happening in phases and should reach all users within the next one to two weeks.

The Phone 3a Lite is not included in this release. Nothing had already announced during the original Nothing OS 4.0 reveal that Phone 3a Lite users will get the stable update early next year.

Everything new in Nothing OS 4.0

Nothing advises users to back up their data before downloading the update.

The update adds an AI usage dashboard inside Essential Space. It keeps track of AI large model activity to give clearer privacy information. You can find it under Settings > Intelligence toolkit > AI usage.

You can now hide apps directly from the home screen and the app drawer. Hidden apps can be viewed under Home screen > App drawer > Hidden icons. The app drawer also gets a new option that lets you control the search scope.

Weather, Pedometer and Screen Time widgets now have more size choices. Most Quick Settings tiles now support a 2 x 2 size. Pop up view now works with two floating icons, allowing quicker switching between windows. System upgrade tools also add app optimisation to improve startup speeds. This is available under Settings > Apps > App optimisation.

Essential features and community tools

Flip to Record now allows you to take photos and add notes while recording. All files are saved together in Essential Space. Playground (Alpha) is also live. It gives users access to community made Essential Apps, camera presets and EQ profiles. Essential Apps (Alpha) are also open for download and include AI powered tools created by the community.

Visual updates

Nothing has refreshed all Nothing app icons and updated status bar icons. There are two new lock screen clock faces. Extra dark mode is now available under Settings > Display > Dark theme > Extra dark mode. The update also improves transition animations across the system.

Glyph and camera changes

Flip to Glyph now lets you select whether the phone switches to Silent or Vibrate mode. Glyph Progress now uses Android 16 Live Update notifications for better support with third party apps.

The camera gets updated presets, new Stretch filter styles with intensity control, longer Motion Photos with audio recording, new Nothing watermarks, new artistic frames and a cleaner camera interface.

Nothing has recently begun its Android 16 rollout, which comes with the latest Nothing OS 4.0 skin at the top. It was none other than the Nothing Phone 3, the company’s first flagship phone, getting the first bite, and now we’ve better clarity about how and when the update will expand to the remaining models.

Nothing has announced a vague rollout timeline for Nothing OS 4.0 that doesn’t reveal the exact dates, but anyway, it’s better than not having one. As per the timeline, the remaining Nothing phones (except the Nothing Phone 1) will receive the Android 16 update over the coming weeks, and the CMF phones will join the party by the end of the year. As for the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite, it’s scheduled to receive the update in early 2026.

Based on the official statement, here’s the timeline that we came up with:

Also, Nothing OS 4.0 is a major upgrade with a download size weighing about 3-5GB. So, ensure that the device has sufficient storage before downloading the update, and that it has at least 40% battery before hitting the install button.

Nothing has begun rolling out Nothing OS 4.0, its latest operating system based on Android 16. Here is a clear breakdown of all the new changes in this update.

Nothing OS 4.0 updates the entire visual layout. First-party app icons now have a cleaner and more minimal look. Status bar icons for Wi Fi, battery and data follow a more consistent style that is easier to read. The lock screen gets refreshed fonts along with two new clock faces. System animations have been reworked so gestures, transitions and the Notification Shade feel faster and more stable. The update also adds light haptic feedback when you reach the maximum or minimum volume.

The new version adds features that aim to cut distractions and improve daily flow. Glyph Progress now supports rides, deliveries and timers across the screen and the Glyph Interface. Because it is built on Android 16, it is no longer limited to specific partners and will support more apps that use the progress feature. Pop up View has been refined to support two floating apps at once, with simple gesture switching. Extra Dark Mode offers deeper blacks, better contrast and lower battery use in low light.

Apps can now be hidden in the App Drawer without moving them to a Private Space. Weather, Pedometer and Screen Time widgets now come in new 1×1 and 2×1 sizes. A new System and Apps Dashboard shows which apps are running in the background and lets you optimise performance with one tap. Universal Search gains filters so you can narrow results more quickly.

Nothing OS 4.0 also introduces Playground. It lets you create your own widgets by chatting with AI, with no coding required. A new Widget Drawer keeps all your widgets in one place so you can organise and access them easily.

The update improves AI transparency. AI Status Hints show when an LLM is active in the status bar. The AI Usage Dashboard shows how AI features are being used across the system.

After months of testing, Nothing has finally started rolling out the stable version of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16. The first phone to receive the latest upgrade is the Nothing Phone 3. The brand has also laid out a roadmap for the remaining devices, which we’ll discuss later in this article.

The Nothing OS 4.0 update for the Nothing Phone 3 is tagged with the firmware version B4.0-251117-1909. Those who have already installed the open beta build should receive a minor update weighing about 700MB, while the remaining users will receive the complete package with a hefty download size of about 3GB.

If you’re rocking a Nothing Phone 3, go to Settings > System > System updates to manually check for updates. Please note that the update isn’t pushed to all users in a single day, so it may take a few days before the update appears on your Nothing device.

Nothing recommends backing up important data before installing the update. Also, keep in mind that the device may temporarily heat up and experience increased battery drain due to excessive background optimizations after installing the update. Everything should get back to normal in just a few days.

While the Nothing OS 4.0 rollout timeline remains vague, the company has announced that the update will reach the rest of its smartphones over the coming weeks. The CMF phones will receive this major upgrade by the end of the year, while the Phone (3a) Lite will follow early next year.

Nothing has officially teased the arrival of its next major OS upgrade, Nothing OS 4.0. The new software is based on Android 16 and promises to bring major changes to Nothing phones. While the brand hasn’t announced a release date, it says the new OS is “coming soon.”

The arrival of Nothing OS 4.0 was teased in a post on X, which also states that this upgrade is “Refined” and “Redefined.” This could mean improvements across the system and several major upgrades.

The London-based brand first teased Nothing OS 4.0 during the launch of Nothing Phone (3), the company’s first true flagship smartphone, in early July. Later that month, the brand released Nothing OS 4.0 closed beta to a limited number of Nothing Phone (3) users. Unfortunately, it didn’t expand to other Nothing smartphones. It appears they will receive the stable build directly.

Google released Android 16 in early June, months earlier than its usual timeline. However, other brands are taking longer to roll it out to their devices, and that also includes Nothing. The brand has been quick with past OS releases, but this early arrival of Android 16 perhaps didn’t give it enough time to finish developing its custom skin, Nothing OS 4.0. The good news is that Nothing has already announced when the update will start rolling out, and we also have a strong idea of which devices are eligible and what new features to expect. Here’s everything you need to know about Nothing OS 4.0.

When will Nothing release Nothing OS 4.0?

Nothing has announced that it will release the Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 later this autumn, which means anything between September and November. It’s safe to say Nothing Phone (3) will be the first to receive Nothing OS 4.0. Sadly, it didn’t come with Nothing OS 4.0 right from the factory, even though Android 16 arrived a month earlier.

After the Phone (3), the update will gradually expand to the remaining models, and if history is anything to go by, the rollout shouldn’t take long to complete.

Before the stable release in Q3, Nothing will likely release Nothing OS 4.0 beta builds to ensure the software is free from critical bugs. This will also give users early access to the software before the wider rollout.

Nothing promises three major Android updates to its smartphones, while its first flagship phone, Nothing Phone (3), promises five. This means the original Nothing phone has already reached the end of the road, as it was launched with Android 12.

What to expect from Nothing OS 4.0 and Android 16?

This major upgrade for Nothing phones will likely bring a progress-centric notification feature that will show instant updates from ride-share and food delivery apps directly on your lock screen and notification panel, reducing the need to open those apps. This is similar to iPhone’s Live Activities, Samsung’s Now Bar, and Oppo’s Live Alerts.

Android 16 makes notifications less cluttered by grouping multiple alerts from the same app and less overwhelming by reducing volume for rapid alerts from the same app. The former is already available for Nothing phones, but the latter isn’t. We might see that as well in Nothing OS 4.0.

The next upgrade may also include Android Protection, an array of security features that’s designed to protect users from online attacks, harmful apps, unsafe websites, scam calls, and more harmful activities.

The Nothing OS 4.0 will likely include more interactive widgets, mini-games, and glanceable notifications for Glyph Matrix (available on Nothing Phone 3) that’ll make it more useful and playful. However, we aren’t sure if Nothing will bring new changes to the Glyph Interface on older devices.
