The phone is offered in Dark Grey and White color variants, with two storage and RAM options available. The Nothing Phone (2) features a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1080 x 2412 resolution and peak brightness of 1600 nits. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC processor, paired with LPDDR5 RAM and USF 3.1 storage. The phone’s camera setup includes a 50MP Sony IMX890 main sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera with the Samsung JN1 sensor, and a 32MP Sony IMX615 front-facing camera with EIS for selfies. The device is equipped with a reliable 4,700mAh battery that supports 33W wired and 15W wireless charging options. Operating on Nothing OS 2.0, it is based on the latest Android 13.

Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, has officially confirmed the launch timeline for its highly anticipated Phone (2) and even its battery capacity in a recent interview. This follows shortly after the founder had confirmed its processor as well.

Nothing Phone (2) launch set for July 2023

For those unaware, the executive had previously revealed that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. And now, Carl Pei have confirmed that the device will be launched globally in July 2023 during an interview with the Forbes. Furthermore, the founder also added that the Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by a 4,700mAh battery pack, which is slightly larger than the 4,500mAh battery pack that was housed on its predecessors.

Interestingly enough, Carl Pei was also asked about the company’s decision on using the older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip over the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for its next gen Phone (2) model. His reply to this was that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was a more optimized chipset that has already received a number of updates and that the brand is prioritizing user experience over raw horsepower or specs. Lastly, the older chipset also helps keeps cost low.

Nothing Phone (2) Will Pack Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chip, Says Qualcomm Exec

Nothing Phone (1) debuted last year as one of the most hyped smartphones we’ve seen so far. Although the handset partially lived up to its hype, many enthusiasts were disappointed by its chipset and wanted a more powerful SoC to be included in the phone’s specs. It seems the next-gen Nothing Phone (2) won’t let folks down as it has more or less been confirmed to pack the capable Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Here are the details.

During the MWC 2023, Nothing confirmed that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) will pack a Snapdragon 8 series processor but didn’t specify which SoC. That changes now as Qualcomm’s SVP and GM of Mobile, Compute, and XR business unit, Alex Katouzian has accidentally confirmed through a LinkedIn post that the Phone (2) will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The post has been edited, but a screenshot shared by 91Mobiles indicates that Katouzian has prematurely disclosed the phone’s chipset. To recall, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was introduced in mid-2022 as a high-end SoC from Qualcomm. Based on the 4nm process node, the chipset has an octa-core architecture. Its Prime Core is based on an ARM Cortex-X2 architecture clocked at up to 3.2 GHz.

While the chipset is not the latest from the brand, it still is quite capable. It can easily support long-term gaming and multitasking. The original Phone(1) debuted with the Snapdragon 778G+, which is a mid-range SoC that offers decent performance.

The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to debut later this year with 12 GB of RAM, virtual RAM, and 256 GB of storage. It could pack a 5,000mAh battery and will continue to feature a 120Hz AMOLED display. Unlike the Phone (1), the upcoming handset will also make it to the US market.
