Three unidentified Huawei smartphones have appeared on TENAA. Since two of them have similar model number and appeal, they seem to be variants of an upcoming Huawei phone while the third one seems to be a different smartphone. It is speculated that these two phones may arrive in the market as Huawei Nova 3, Nova 3 Plus and Y3/Y5 2018.

The design of the Huawei FLA-AL00 and FLA-TL10 are quite similar. The appearance of the dual camera setup looks similar to the Huawei Nova 2Nova 2 series phones. Hence, these variants are speculated to debut as Nova 3 and Nova 3 Plus.  The AL00 Huawei phones are usually made available through China Unicom whereas the TL00 variants are sold through either China Mobile or China Telecom in the home country. Hence, the FLA-AL00 and FLA-TL10 could be the carrier variants of the Nova 3.

The Huawei LDN-TL00 is speculated to be the successor of Huawei Y3 or Y5 2017 smartphones from last year. Since the Huawei Y5 2017 was unveiled in April and the Nova 2, Nova 2 Plus, Y3 2017 phones were launched in May, it is speculated that the their successor models may arrive early in the second quarter of this year.

All three upcoming Huawei phones seem to support 18:9 aspect ratio supporting screen. The rear sides of these phones are flanked with dual cameras and fingerprint reader. The appearance of the dual camera setup on the Y3/Y5 2018 looks different from Nova 3 and 3 Plus. The Y3/Y5 2018 seems to feature single front camera whereas the Nova 3 models have dual selfie snappers. These phones are likely to carry support to for dual-SIM and arrive preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo and EMUI 8.0.

We advise our readers to digest this report with a pinch of salt. The identify of the above phones can be guessed properly only when their TENAA listing are updated with specs.

Huawei is now rumored to be a working on a new Nova series phone that is likely to sport a full screen design. Speculations are rife that it will hit the market as Huawei Nova 3 and may have a design that is very similar to the Nova 2i smartphone that was recently launched in Malaysia. The Chinese manufacturer has released the same smartphone as Mate 10 Lite in Europe, Maimang 6 in China and Honor 9i in India.

Leaked information reveals that the alleged Nova 3 may include a 5.93-inch display that will carry support for FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Since it is a full screen design phone, its fingerprint scanner will probably reside on its back panel.

Like the Nova 2i, the rumored Nova 3 will be equipped with quad cameras. The rear side may feature 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera system and its front may house 20-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual selfie cameras.

The Nova 3 is speculated to be driven by the new Kirin 670 SoC that is speculated to be built on a 12nm manufacturing process. Reports have revealed that it could be a hexa-core SoC featuring two Moscow custom cores working at 2.2 GHz and four cores of Cortex A53 processor gunning at 2.0 GHz along with Mali G72MP4 graphics.

The same chipset was speculated to be present inside the recently introduced Honor 7X. However, the handset was launched with Kirin 659 SoC. The Huawei Nova 3 is expected to include a 3,340mAh battery with 18w fast charging support. There is no information available on the RAM and storage variants of the Nova 3. Since it seems to be a midrange phone, it may arrive in 3 GB / 4 GB RAM options and 32 GB / 64 GB storage models.

The Nova 2 was sold with a starting price of 2,499 Yuan (~$375). However, since the average selling price of smartphones have been rising consistently, the Nova 3 is speculated to be priced around 2,999 Yuan (~$450). It is likely to launch on Dec. 5.

The fact is that the Bright Silver version of the Nova 2 Plus will open for pre-sale on August 3 and the preorder will be opened until August 8 while the device will open up for sale on August 9. The device is already listed on Huawei Mall (Vmall) and also on JD.com and Suning Tesco.

The new variant comes with a slightly higher price tag of 3,099 Yuan as against 2,899 Yuan for the other colour options with 128GB storage. The variant also has a mirror finish that is highly reflective. The soon-to-be-released variant brings a premium finish common with flagship models to a mid-range device. The Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus were listed among the top selling Huawei models in the first half of the year. This new additional colour variant which is turning out to be a very popular option, considering how the Mi 6 and Sony Xperia XZ had a similar variant, could help continue the good sales.

The metal body of the device is coated in silver, thus giving it a mirror finish. The Nova 2 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p LTPS In-Cell display and is powered by an Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 659 processor and a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU powers the graphics. The processor is backed by a 4GB RAM while the Bright Silver variant has 128GB storage.  Both the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus were initially available in five different colors namely, Rose Gold, Streamer Gold, Grass Green, Aurora Blue, Bright Black and Obsidian Black. The Bright Silver variant is the seventh variant of the Nova 2 Plus and that is a whole lot of options to chose from.

Huawei has released a video teaser that unveils the impending release of a Silver coloured variant of the Nova 2 Plus. The new colour variant is billed for release on August 3 and would come with a mirror finish that would be highly reflective.

The upcoming release brings a premium finish to a mid-range device, a feature that is almost a regular on flagship models. A number of the recently released flagship models had a silver variant among their lineup. The Sony Xperia XZ featured a silver variant and also the Mi 6 had a Mercury Silver variant which it revealed would be going on sale soon. This is no doubt, in a bid to offer customers more option to choose from, thereby outwitting competitors.

Huawei has added another smartphone to its fast-growing list of smartphones released this year. This tome around, the company announced the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. The Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus fits into the mid-range category based on precedence. They take over from the mid-range Huawei Nova and Nova Plus which were announced last year. Other than that, the smartphones come with a redesigned body which could make them get confused for flagship devices. Both the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus seem to be different from each other in their display sizes, storage versions and battery capacities.

 Design & Specifications

The Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus both feature a metal body with a thin build which is just 6.9mm thick. There is a 2.5D curved glass above the display and they also have well-chamfered edges. The Nova 2 comes with a 5.0-inch 1080p LTPS In-Cell display while the Nova 2 Plus packs a 5.5-inch display of the same type. They are available in five different colors namely, Rose Gold, Streamer Gold, Green, Aurora Blue, and Obsidian Black. Huawei also added a little bit of fun to the pack by making available four colorful protection cases.

The Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus are fired up by a Hisilicon Kirin 659 processor which is an Octa-core CPU and a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU powers the graphics. The processor is supplemented by a 4GB RAM on all models while there are two storage variants, one with 64GB storage and another with 128GB storage which is only on the Nova 2 Plus. Both versions are expandable up to 128GB.

The Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus features a powerful camera setup. The front camera has a 20MP sensor for cool selfie snapshots. It also comes with a  self-timer,  2 secnds gesture self-timer, a colour temperature light flash, 3D stereo fusion algorithm, art blur and support for Beauty 4.0. The rear camera setup, as you already know, is a dual-lens setup consisting of a 12MP wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto sensor. The cameras have a f/1.8 aperture, as well as supports OIS, portrait mode, and lots more. The camera also enhances the picture quality depending on the environment condition under which the camera photo needs to be shot.

Other specs include a 3,340mAh battery on the Nova 2 and a2950mAh battery on the Nova 2 Plus, both with fast charge support. The phones also comewith USB Type-C interface, dual nano-SIM, EMUI 5.1 and a built-in AK4376A Hi-Fi chip for quality sound. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack despite the Type-C port.

Huawei Nova 2 Pricing & Availability

As for their prices, the Huawei Nova 2 4GB + 64GB starts at 2,499 Yuan ($364). On the other hand, the Huawei Nova 2 Plus is priced at 2,899 Yuan ($422) for the 4GB + 128GB storage model. Reservations are already open for both models and the sales would commence at 16.00 on June 16 on several sales channels.

The past few weeks have been fairly busy with rumors and leaks, along with a few launches as well (like the HTC U11 or the Moto C Plus or even the OPPO A77). But this week, things are going to be even busier, as a number of Chinese manufacturers have scheduled multiple events. The first event of the week kicks off on Tuesday, May 23 and the events continue until Friday, May 26. So, you should expect a whole bunch of new and interesting products in this week. Note that the week will be dominated by Huawei and Huawei’s subsidiary, Honor.

Below are the 7 main events scheduled for this week.

May 23

1. New Honor Products:

Huawei’s Honor is going to kick off this week’s launch spree with not one but four new products. We had already reported about the four product launches this week and now, let’s try to figure out what they could be.

a. Honor 6A

Honor seems to be done with top-tier flagship launches for the first half of 2017. And with Honor 9 expected to launch around June end, it doesn’t make sense for the brand to release a powerful device this month. Instead, we can expect an entry-level device like the Huawei Honor 6A at Tuesday’s launch event. If you remember, a new Honor branded device with low-end specs passed through TENAA earlier this month. The phone is believed to be the successor to the Honor 5A launched about a year back, most likely called as the Honor 6A. TENAA reveals the specs to be entry-level, like a 5-inch 720p screen, 3GB RAM, octa-core chip and Android Nougat.

b. Honor Wearable / Watch

The second product at the event could be a new Honor wearable, like the successor to the Honor Band A1 launched in May last year or the Honor Watch S1 which was launched in October in 2016. So, you can expect the company to announce a new Honor Band A2 or Honor Watch S2 wearable.

c. Honor Pad 3

The third product most likely would be a new tablet, and it should be the recently certified Honor Pad 3. The new tablet should come with an all-metal body and an 8-inch 1280 x 800 pixel display. Inside, it comes with a quad-core chip, 4GB RAM, and a 4650mAh battery. Nothing extraordinary, but it should be an affordable tablet option.

We are not yet sure about the fourth product, but rumors state that it could be a new Honor router. Whatever it turns out to be, Honor is known for its youth-oriented products, which also means that the new devices should come under the affordable category.

2. 360 N5S

Although 360 Mobiles operate inside China, the company has a good fan following internationally because of its cost effective products. The 360 N5 was one of the cheapest 6GB RAM phones in the market and it still is super cheap (you can buy it on Giztop). Considering that it came with Snapdragon 653 and 6GB RAM at just $203, you should definitely be excited to see what’s in store inside the new 360 N5S.

The N5 was announced just a few months back and the phone is already pretty powerful. So, instead of significant upgrades in the specs department, what you can expect is changes in the design. It is said that the phone will come with a double sided glass design, instead of a traditional all-metal body found on the N5. Specs wise, the company may stick with SD653 or maybe jump to a faster SD660 chipset. 6GB RAM is almost confirmed since the N5 had it. Other details are not yet available, but the event is on the same day as the Honor launch, i.e. May 23. So, make sure to check out gizmochina on Tuesday for updates about these two events.

3. Huawei Matebook

Yes, even Huawei has a separate (international) event on May 23 and it has confirmed that it will launch new Huawei Matebook 2 notebooks. Well, we don’t know what it will be called, but earlier rumors said that there were three new Matebook laptops expected this year, called Matebook E, X, and D, one of them using the same convertible design as the first generation model (other two being traditional laptops).

Huawei would probably announce these three Matebook laptop convertibles at the event in Berlin.

4. Meizu M5C

Meizu kind of revealed it late that it had a special event this week. The company revealed the letter “C” in the teasers, which hints that the upcoming device could be named the Meizu C or maybe Meizu M5C. Considering how a leaked screenshot of the company’s smartphone page revealed the yet to be announced Meizu M5C model (which was taken down very soon), it is likely that the phone will end up being called as the M5C.

Expect this to be a mid-ranger with decent specs. Now, Meizu has traditionally worked exclusively with MediaTek for its mid-range phones, but after its settlement with Qualcomm, could we expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip inside? Unlikely, given that Meizu’s VP has already revealed that a Snapdragon-based Meizu device would not release anytime soon.

May 24

5. Sharp’s New Bezel-less Flagship

Wednesday is going to be another interesting day for tech lovers as Sharp is all set to announce a brand new smartphone in China. Now, we are aren’t sure which model to expect at the event, but the teasers seem to indicate that this will be a bezel-less flagship.

Considering Sharp isn’t exactly a big player in the smartphone market who will announce multiple phones in a month, what we may see at the May 24 event could be the newly announced Sharp Aquos R. After its Japanese launch, China could be the next big region for the phone, especially with its high-end specs like SD835, and 22.6MP camera.

May 25

6. Xiaomi Mi Max 2

Probably one of the most exciting events of the month, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is confirmed to meet us on May 25. This will be the second generation model in the Max lineup, which debuted in May last year.

This year’s Mi Max 2 is expected to feature the same large 6.4-inch display with a 5000mAh battery on board. So, once again, you have a large entertainment friendly screen with an even better battery for hours of continuous media playback. However, things aren’t the same as last year for a phablet, given that phones like the S8 have proved that you don’t need a super large body to feature a super large screen. But if the leaked (~$230) pricing for the Mi Max 2 turns out to be correct, with these specs, the phone’s is definitely going to be an attractive offer. May 26

7. Huawei Nova 2 

As I said at the start of the article, this week is filled with Huawei’s announcements. Even on Friday, we have a new phone meeting us from the tech giant, the Huawei Nova 2. Now, this will be yet another Snapdragon 660 smartphone (we have already spotted the phone on TENAA revealing its specs: check it out here) and the phone, like most Huawei phones released this year, will have dual cameras at the back! Lime green, rose gold and a lot of different color options are expected for the device.

Expect the larger version of the model, the Huawei Nova 2 Plus at the same event. Apart from the larger screen size and battery, the rest of the specs of the phone should be similar to the Nova 2.

A leaked poster that had surfaced in the past week revealed that the Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus smartphone will get announced on May 26. However, Huawei has not released any official statement on the announcement of the new Huawei Nova phones. The launch of these phones seems to be drawing near as another leaked poster has appeared to show the color variants of the Nova 2 series.

The promotional poster shows the upcoming Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus will be available in three color variants like blue, green and pink. The front side of the phone can be seen sporting black colored bezels. However, the images of Huawei Nova 2 that appeared on TENAA had revealed the phone with white bezels.

The most striking change that will be seen in the upcoming Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus smartphones is the presence of horizontally aligned dual rear cameras coupled with dual-LED flash. The predecessor Nova phones came with single rear cameras.

There is no information available on the camera configuration of the upcoming Nova phones. The image also suggests that the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus would be arriving with rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Appearance-wise, the Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus will have similar design, but they will be arriving with slightly different specifications. The Nova 2 will be a smaller device featuring a 5.1-inch display whereas the Nova 2 Plus will be featuring a 5.5-inch screen. Like the original Huawei Nova and Nova Plus, the successors phones are pegged to support full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Both the smartphones are speculated to be powered by the newly announced Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. Other details of the new Huawei Nova 2 series are currently available. Like the predecessor phones, the Nova 2 phones are expected to feature more than 3,000 mAh battery. Android 7.0 Nougat will come pre-loaded on these phones along with Emotion UI.

The details on the pricing and availability of Nova 2 series are also unavailable. As stated above, the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus are rumored to get unveiled on May 26.
