Even though Nubia V18 and Lenovo S5 boast very similar dimensions (with the former being just some millimeters taller and larger), the V18 has a way bigger display thanks to its narrower bezels (6.01 vs 5.7 inches). But the two displays should be very similar in terms of quality. Even the performances should not change so much as they both have a Snapdrgon 625 SoC paired with 4 GB of RAM (there is a 3 GB RAM variant for the Lenovo S5 which will cost less than the 4 GB version). We expect to see better photos shot on the Lenovo S5 as its dual 13 MP camera and its dual-LED dual-tone flash should adapt better to every condition. Even the front camera will be way better on the Lenovo S5 with its 16 MP resolution for highly detailed selfies.

On the other hand, Nubia V18 will offer longer battery life thanks to a much bigger battery (4000 mAh vs 3000 mAh). Due to their very similar specs, it is very hard to choose one instead of another… But wait: there is its price.

In China, Nubia V18 will sell for about $205/€166, while Lenovo S5 will start from just $157/€127 (3/32 GB variant). With these prices, Lenovo S5 has a way higher value for money! Also consider that Lenovo S5 comes with Android Oreo out of the box (customized with ZUI 3.7, an user interface which comes from ZUK devices), while Nubia V18 still has Android Nougat (customized with nubia UI 5.1) and we do not know if and when it will update to the new version. But if you do not care about camera, Nubia V18 could be a better device for you thanks to its big battery.

Juts a few weeks ago, it released the Nubia N3, a mid-range phone with a 5000mAh battery. The new V18 can be summarized as a better-looking Nubia N3 with a smaller battery and cheaper price tag.

Nubia V18 Design

The Nubia V18 has a metal back with a U-design antenna line. While it does look like it sports dual rear cameras, it is actually a single sensor. The signature red accent is also present and there is a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

The front has reduced top and bottom bezels and those on the sides are quite thin. The phone comes in Stone Black, Space Gold, and Nebula red.

Nubia V18 Specs

The Nubia V18 has a 6.01” FHD+ display and an 86.25% screen-to-body ratio. Thankfully, it doesn’t have a notch, so the aspect ratio remains 18:9. Nubia has settled for the Snapdragon 625 processor just like in the recently announced N3. There is also 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage (128GB max.).

A 13MP f/2.2 sensor with PDAF is the main camera on the device and an 8MP f/2.0 80° wide-angle sensor is in front for selfies. There are up to ten different selfie beauty enhancements in addition to NeoVision 7.0 which brings some extra modes.

Nubia has also “sprinkled some AI” on the V18. Who doesn’t today? So there is an assistant that should help set reminders, take notes, and the likes, and AI algorithms for taking better pictures.

The 5,000mAh battery from the N3 has been cut down to 4,000mAh which should last up to 2 days according to the manufacturer. You can also use the phone to charge other devices and there is NeoPower 3.0 for fast charging and battery management. The Nubia V18 runs Nubia UI 5.1 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. It is said to be specially customized for the phone.

The phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner but Nubia says an update will bring Face Unlock to the device. There is a Micro-USB port at the bottom and a 3.5mm audio jack at the top. It also has a dedicated mute button on the left.

Nubia V18 Price and Availability

The Nubia V18 will sell for ¥1299 (~$205) when it goes on sale. Pre-orders will begin on March 22 at 5PM local time and sales will begin on March 29 at 10AM local time. It will be available on the Nubia store, Suning.com, and Tmall.com.

Nubia has teased features of its upcoming smartphone Nubia V18 by posting images on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo.

The phone is expected to come with a full-screen display, larger capacity battery, and better camera performance. While the company has not revealed any specifications of the phone, the Nubia V18 is expected to feature a 6-inch Full-Screen display with Full-HD+ screen resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

There is no information available regarding the phone’s battery capacity, but given that the device will have a larger capacity battery, we expected the phone to pack about 5,000mAh battery — similar to the Nubia N3. Further, the phone is also expected to come with 4GB RAM.

Nubia has already confirmed that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a whole lot of RAM for the best gaming experience. However, the company has not yet revealed specifications.

As of the camera department, while the camera configuration is not known, it is said that the company will be making use of artificial intelligence technology for improving camera performance. The camera will support features such as AI-based beautification, AI-based voice functions, among others.

Earlier, the phone was reportedly spotted at Mobile World Congress, which suggested that it will come in a metal body design, a single camera on the back and a fingerprint sensor that will also be placed on the phone’s back panel.

Several reports have indicated that the phone could be priced competitively, somewhere around 1,000 Yuan, which roughly converts to $158. However, it’s just a matter of few hours before the company officially launches Nubia V18 and reveal its pricing as well as availability information.

Recently, the company launched Nubia N3, which comes with a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ full-screen display with pixel density of 403ppi. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Having dual camera setup featuring a 16MP + 5MP camera lenses at the back, the phone comes equipped with 16MP front-facing snapper.

The Nubia N3 is running on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system based Nubia UI 5.1 and is fuelled by a 5,000mAh non-removable battery. The phone went on sale yesterday in China and is priced at 1799 Yuan (approximately $284).

In this week, Xiaomi will be debuting the Redmi Note 5 while rival phones like Lenovo S5 and Meizu E3 will be respectively unveiled on March 20 and 21. The Vivo X21 and Vivo V9 smartphones are respectively launching on March 21 and March 27. Oppo has also confirmed that the Oppo F7 will be announced on March 25 and the aggressive marketing of the OPPO R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition suggests that these phones will be also launched this month. Today, ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia has also confirmed that it will be announcing a new budget-friendly Nubia V18 on March 22.

The below shown press invite confirms the launch date of March 22 for Nubia V18. However, nothing much is known on the specifications and features of the phone. The text mentioned on the launch teaser states that it will be full screen design phone that will be arriving with 6-inch display.

The handset will be also delivering a long battery life which indicates that it may come packed with a behemoth battery. Also, it will be priced at 1,000 Yuan (~$158).

It is unlikely to be the gaming-centric phone that Nubia is rumored to launch. The Chinese manufacturer has recently launched the Nubia N3 mid-range phone. It includes a 5.99-inch FHD+ display and is fueled by Snapdragon 625 chipset, 4 GB of RAM and 5,000mAh battery. The N3 has a native storage of 64 GB, a selfie camera of 16-megapixel and it also includes dual rear cameras.

As far as Nubia V18 is concerned, the rumor mill may reveal some key information on it before its launch
