ZTE‘s sub-brand Nubia have gone ahead and began releasing their Z17 Android P update. For now, the update has only been pushed to a small number of users for testing. If things go well, the company plans to promptly push the update to all Nubia Z17 users. Below is a changelog of the new features and fixes.

Nubia Z17 Android 9.0 update changes:-

• Android version upgraded to Android 9.0 P
• Notification center has been sped up
• Replying to messages is faster
• Optimized visual effects for applications
• Optimized animations for smoother operation
• Over 100 minor optimizations

The Nubia Z17 version of Android P also claims to have fixed some of the problems from Android itself. If so, then that’s a nice addition as opposed to just sending out the update. I’ve listed some of the named changes and fixes below if you’d like to take a closer look.

ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia revealed a couple of months ago that the Nubia Z17 will get the Android Pie update. However, after that announcement, there was no news related to that. Now the company has confirmed that the smartphone, which was launched in June 2017, will soon get the latest Android 9 Pie update.

The company has announced that the company will start recruitment for beta testers to test the Android Pie Beta version on the Nubia Z17. Later, the company will officially roll-out the stable version of the Android Pie update to all the users.

This will be second major update for the company’s 2017 flagship smartphone after the Nubia 6.0 update that brought Android Oreo version last year.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone features a bezel-less design and comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, the phone comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45GHz.

It packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM. There are other memory options available, including 6GB RAM with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. As for the camera, it comes with a 23MP + 12MP camera sensors with f/1.8 aperture and 1.4um large pixel.

The camera setup supports 2x optical zoom and 10x dynamic zoom. The focus time is also impressive at 0.03 seconds. On the front side, the Nubia Z17 comes with a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide angle lens.

As for the software, the phone comes with Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with Nubia UI 5.0 on top. Connectivity features include Dolby Atmos, Hi-Fi+, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac. The phone is powered by a 3,200mAh battery which charges up to 50% in 25 minutes.

If you own the Nubia Z17, then you will definitely be pretty pissed at Nubia by the time you are done reading this post.

The Nubia Z17 was one of the flagship phones released by Nubia last year and an impressive one due to its combination of flagship specs and an affordable price. When it was announced in June, it ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box which is understandable since Android Oreo wasn’t out yet.

Nubia later updated the phone to Nubia UI 6.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, making that its first major OS update and as it has turned out now, its last.

Nubia has announced that its 2017 flagship will not get any major OS upgrade anymore. According to the manufacturer, the software development team has to focus on other devices and won’t be working on the Nubia Z17 anymore. Which means it will not get Android Pie and other future Android versions. However, the phone will still get Nubia UI updates.

While Nubia hasn’t said anything about the Nubia Z17s, its second flagship of 2017, we will advise you not to raise your hopes. The phone got an update last month and it still didn’t bring Android 8.1 Oreo, so users are still stuck on Android Nougat. The update to Oreo may come later but there is a high chance that will also be its last major OS update.

In conclusion, this is a bad decision by Nubia and one that may hurt its sales in the future. Software support has become a big deal and a major factor when it comes to buying a phone. Nobody wants to shell out a lot of money for a phone that only gets one major OS update talkless of a flagship.

Nubia has still not announced a launch date for the Nubia Z18 flagship. There is a high chance it will arrive this month since the Z17 launched in June last year. The Z18 will come with a new full-screen design and some live photos just leaked to show us what it looks like.

Just so you can see how significantly different the Z18 is from the Z17, we will include a picture of the latter.

Can you see those huge bezels on the Nubia Z17? That should have been left in 2016 but they made it to 2017. However, we are glad they have been left there. The Nubia Z18 isn’t Nubia’s first full-screen phone actually. Those huge bezels were trimmed down on the Nubia Z17s but the Z18 pushes it further by stretching the screen further up and including a notch.

Nubia has decided not to join the bandwagon of the iPhone X notch-style. Instead, it has borrowed a leaf from the Essential PH-1. The bottom bezel is still a bit thick and can house a fingerprint scanner but ZTE has decided to keep it at the back. Nubia rounds off the design by keeping the side bezels as thin as possible.

“King of Glory” published by Tencent Games is a highly popular mobile game in China. After a recent gaming event in Shenzhen, Nubia CEO Ni Fei confirmed that the company is planning to build a gaming phone.

Ni Fei did not reveal any information on the upcoming gaming phone from the company. It is speculated that the forthcoming Nubia Z18 flagship would be built to handle hardcore games. The Z18 is rumored to arrive with a borderless full screen design and it is likely to feature Snapdragon 845 chipset. Since the Nubia Z17 and Nubia Z17S are packed with 8 GB of RAM, there is a high possibility that Nubia Z18 may also feature 8 GB of RAM. These specs suggest that the Nubia Z18 will be capable at handling high-end gaming.

The Weibo post through which Ni Fei confirmed that the company is working on a gaming phone contains some images. One of the images show a mysterious smartphone with the “King of Glory” game running on it. There is no confirmation on whether the unidentified phone is the Nubia Z18 or the Nubia Z17S phone that was launched in October last year. The handset features very narrow side bezels which appears quite similar to the Nubia Z17S.

In November last year, Razer had unveiled a high-end gaming smartphone called Razer Phone. It features a 5.7-inch IGZO IPS LCD screen that supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is driven by Snapdragon 835, 8 GB of RAM and 4,000mAh battery. The rumored specs of the Nubia Z18 suggests that it will be able to handle high-end gaming. There is a possibility that the smartphone may feature a display that offers a high refresh rate like the Razer Phone. Since the Nubia Z17 phone was launched in June last year, it is speculated that Nubia Z18 may debut by mid-2018.

The Nubia Z17miniS that was unveiled a few months ago is now selling with a discount of 300 Yuan (~47) on JD.com. Now its predecessor phone, the Nubia Z17 Mini that was launched in April 2017 is also available with a discount of 300 Yuan (~$47) on the retailer site.

On JD.com, the Nubia Z17 Mini variants featuring 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage are now respectively available for 1,099 Yuan (~$170) and 1,299 Yuan (~$200) after a discount of 300 Yuan (~$47). Both the variants are available in color choices like Champagne Gold, Black Gold, Elegant Black, and Aurora Blue on the Chinese retailer site.

When the Nubia Z17 Mini was officially introduced, the 4 GB and 6 GB RAM variants were respectively priced at 1,699 Yuan (~$263) and 1,999 Yuan (~$310). Compared to the original pricing, the Z17 Mini is now available with a significantly reduced pricing. The smartphone was launched at a time when there are not many full screen design smartphones in the market. Hence, it features a traditional 16:9 display of 5.2 inches. It is fueled by 2,950mAh capacity battery.

Our review of the Nubia Z17 Mini had revealed that this mid-range smartphone features stellar camera capabilities. It features a pair of 13-megapixel camera sensors on its back panel. For snapping selfies, it includes a 16-megeapixel camera.

Both the variants of the smartphone are fueled by Snapdragon 652 chipset. The recently launched HTC U11 EYEs smartphone is also driven by this old chipset. The Nubia Z17 Mini does not feature full screen design and dual selfie cameras like the U11 EYEs that is available in China with a price tag of $500. Considering the fact that Nubia Z17 comes with the same chipset, stellar cameras and decent specs, it seems to be a great phone for 1,099 Yuan (~$170).

Just like AnTuTu and Geekbench, Master Lu is another benchmark for devices like smartphones. Though it’s not as popular as the other two, we do see its benchmarks crop up once in a while and its benchmark listing usually gets attention among the western media especially when its of an unannounced model.

Despite being unpopular outside of China, the benchmark tool has a database of all the major smartphones released in the past one year, including the OnePlus 5, Nubia Z17, Mate 10 models and so on. So, when the benchmark app released its top 10 list of smartphones of 2017, it was worth checking who came out on top.

We all keep a close watch on AnTuTu’s top smartphones and unsurprisingly, the OnePlus 5 and the Galaxy Note 8 are the top two smartphones on the benchmarking app. The AnTuTu rankings are yet to be updated to include recent models and it seems that the ranking hasn’t been refreshed since October 2017.

However, in case of Master Lu’s top 10 smartphones list, there are quite a few recent models including the recent Mate 10 models. The Nubia Z17, though old, is right on top and followed by the Mate 10 Pro and the HTC U11. The OnePlus 5T model is way behind, at the eight spot. The Galaxy Note 8 is also down at the sixth spot, preceded by Google’s Pixel XL 2. Eight out of the 10 models were powered by Snapdragon 835, while Kirin 970 powered flagships occupied two spots in the list.

It’s worth mentioning that the first two scores are very close. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro (167467) with Kirin 970 scores almost as much as the Nubia Z17 (167988) powered by Snapdragon 835. So it looks like Master Lu’s benchmark puts Kirin 970 very close to SD835 in terms of performance.

The upcoming ZTE Nubia Z17S and Z17 Mini S have appeared on 3C page of Jingdong. These phones were momentarily made available for registrations on the retailer site and then removed. This suggests that the Chinese manufacturer will be unleashing not only the rumored Z17S flagship phone on Oct. 12, but also a smaller phone dubbed as Z17 Mini S.

Nubia Z17 Mini S

Let’s talk about the Z17 Mini S first. Last year, ZTE had introduced ZTE Nubia Z11 Mini in April and in October it had released an upgraded model with Z11 Mini S moniker. Compared to Nubia 11 Mini, its upgraded model came numerous improvements like larger display, better chipset, better cameras, and bigger battery. It seems that the Chinese manufacturer will be adopting the same strategy this year.

In April this year, the company had released the ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini and it appears that NX589J Nubia phone that was certified by TENAA in the previous may launch as ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini S. The TENAA listing has revealed that the Z17 Mini S would be coming with a 5.2-inch full HD display like Z17 Mini.

The Snapdragon 653 along with 6 GB of RAM powers the Z17 Mini. However, the Z17 Mini S is expected to feature 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and 6 GB of RAM. Like the Z17 Mini, the newer model is pegged to feature 64 GB storage.

The most striking difference between the two phones is that the Z17 Mini S features dual front and rear cameras. The Z17 Mini has a 2,950mAh battery and the Z17 Mini S is speculated to house a larger battery of 3,100mAh capacity.

Nubia Z17S

The Chinese manufacturer has been teasing the full-screen 2.1 design that will be introduced on its upcoming phone that will be launching on Oct. 12. Speculations have it that the NX595J Nubia phone that was certified by TENAA recently could be the Z17S flagship phone.

The Nubia Z17 was announced in June this year. It is packed with a true bezel-less display of 5.5 inches and is driven by Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. It measures 152.6 x 72.4 x 7.6mm.

The TENAA listing of alleged Nubia Z17S has revealed that it measures 147.5 x 72.7 x 8.6mm. It appears to be a smaller and thicker device that houses a larger FHD display of 5.73 inches as compared to the Nubia Z17. It does not feature an elongated 18:9 display as the FHD resolution suggests that it will be offering an aspect ratio of 16:9. Since it includes a bigger screen, the usual red-circled Home button that was found below the display has been removed.

The alleged Z17S is powered by 1.8 GHz processor which is slower than the clocking speed of Snapdragon 835 that powers the Z17. Hence, it may feature a different chipset. It is also expected to feature 8 GB of RAM. Like the Z17 Mini S, the larger Z17S also features dual front and rear cameras.

Present happenings in the tech industry reaffirm our stance that 2017 is the year of full-screen, bezel-less phones. Well, full-screen phones yes but not so true about bezel-less, because there is usually one form of bezels or the other but the bezels are usually so thin. The list of OEMs with bezel-less phones continues to grow, Nubia may soon join with a full-screen phone which has been spotted in a render recently.

The leaked renders are said to be for a Nubia “full-screen 2.1” smartphone which goes by the code name NX595J. Tagging it “Full-screen 2.1” is perhaps to suggest that the device will come with a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Mi Mix 2 which was labeled as utilizing full-screen 2.0. The screen has just tiny bezels at the top and bottom edges while the sides are near bezel-less. There are dual cameras at the rear with an LED flash sitting in between the vertically aligned cameras.There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and interestingly, the device seems to have an 18.5: 9 aspect ratio just like the Galaxy S8. The back of the mobile device also adopts a curved design on all sides.

This will not be Nubia’s first bezel-less phone, as the Nubia Z17 flagship released earlier this year packing an SD 835 chip features a design lacking bezels on the two side edges. But the NX595J takes it a lot further, featuring a full-screen design with even lesser bezels than on the Z17. No word yet on the likely specs or if Nubia will drop this model this year.

ZTE’s elite Nubia brand went official with the Nubia Z17 in June, announcing both a 6GB RAM + 64GB / 128GB storage and an high-end 8GB RAM + 128GB version. A new variant with 8GB RAM + 64GB storage was later spotted on TENAA a couple of weeks back, which means, the 8GB RAM version would soon be available in two storage types, and therefore, two different price points. 

Since the launch, none of the 8GB RAM versions have been up for sale. However, starting today, the 8GB version of  Z17 is available for pre-order on Nubia’s official website and on Nubia official flagship store on Jingdong. One good thing about having an 8+64GB variant is that it brings down the price of the top-end model drastically. While the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is available for 3999 Yuan ($587), the 8GB RAM +64GB storage version is available for a much cheaper, 3,199 Yuan ($480) price tag. The pre-order will run from now until August 28 when the sales would commence.

Nubia released the Z17 as its flagship of the year in June. Available in two variants – 6GB of RAM + 64GB/128GB ROM and 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM. We may be getting a new variant soon as a new Nubia Z17 has been spotted on TENAA.

The new variant is actually an 8GB RAM model with 64GB of built-in storage. It’s price will see it positioned between the 6GB RAM + 128GB model and the 8GB RAM + 128GB model. The latter is priced at ¥3999 (~$587), so we presume this should be between $530 and $550. There is also a possibility that this may be destined for other markets such as India.

The Nubia Z17 is a fantastic device, though it is one of the pricier Snapdragon 835-powered phones in China. It is the first smartphone to have a single slit antenna design and it uses a new design called aRC 3.0 to keep the front glass thin and the display without side bezels.

It has a 5.5-inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, a 16MP front facing camera and its signature red-holo circle adorning the front. The rear is where you will find its dual rear cameras, a 23MP f/2.0 sensor paired with a 12MP f/1.8 one with 2X lossless zoom, and dual LED flash. Keeping the rear cameras company is a fingerprint scanner.

The Nubia Z17 is also the first smartphone to support Quick Charge 4+, allowing you charge its 3200mAh battery from 0 to 50% in just 20 minutes.

The Nubia Z17 is available in black gold, obsidian black, and solar gold. A flame red version was released on August 1, and there is an aurora blue variant announced at launch which hasn’t been released yet.

Red is a very attractive color and easily noticeable on virtually all objects. It is no surprise that smartphone manufacturers have picked it as one of their colors of choice this year alongside blue. To be honest, I am tired of the rose gold color and happy red is now appearing on devices. Nubia has announced that its Z17 flagship will launch in flame red on August 1.

The Nubia Z17 was released about 2 months ago in Black Gold, Black, Gold, Blue, and Flame Red. Since it became available for purchase you could get it in all the colors save for blue and red. Come August 1, the flame red variant will be available for purchase. There is still no news of when the blue variant will be available.

Pricing starts at ¥2799 (~$415) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB version and ¥3399 (~$505) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant. The latter however comes with a free pair of Nubia Pro Wired Earphones that retails for ¥149 (~$22) and comes in red and black.

The Nubia Z17 is a 5.5-inch smartphone with a 1080p display. It has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 powering it. Apart from the 6GB RAM variants, there is also an 8GB RAM version.

Nubia has equipped the 17 with dual rear cameras. One is a f/2.0 23MP sensor and the other is a f/1.8 12MP sensor. The sensors have dual pixel technology with 2x optical zoom, and sapphire glass lens. The camera configuration allows for images with the background blur effect.

The front camera is a 16MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and an 80° viewing angle.

The Z17 has Dolby Atmos, HiFi+, NFC and comes with Nubia UI 5.0 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The phone has a 3200mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4.0+ but actually ships with a Quick Charge 3.0 charger. Right now there are no QC 4.0 chargers talk less of a C 4.0+ charger.

Sales for the Flame Red Nubia Z17 will begin at 10:00 AM on August 1 but you can head to the official site to setup a reminder.

Every month, AnTuTu releases a list of the overall top 10 smartphones. There is also a list for each operating system (Android and iOS). The lists for June have been released and Android takes the lead again with the OnePlus 5.

For the month of May, the HTC U11 was the king of smartphones, however the OnePlus 5, released last month has dethroned it.

The OnePlus 5 claims the top spot with 181879 points, making it the first device to cross the 180k mark. It is followed by the ZTE’s Nubia Z17 and not the HTC U11 as it was released in June too and packs 8GB of RAM. The U11 claims the third spot.

The Galaxy S8+ comes in at number four with 171703 points while Xiaomi’s Mi 6 takes the fifth position with 170255 points. The iPhone 7 Plus is still on the list and sits at number six and the iPhone 7 is number eight on the list losing the seventh spot to Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium. The Galaxy S8 takes the ninth spot and the Snapdragon 821-powered OnePlus 3T is the tenth.

For the next few months until the new iPhone(s) release, expect to see Snapdragon 835 phones take the lead.

The top ten iOS devices sees the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro take the lead with its Apple A10X Fusion chip. The iPhone 7 Plus is second and the iPad Pro 9.7 comes in at number three.

The Z17 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD true bezeless display that supports a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

In China, the 2017 ZTE flagship phone is available in RAM and storage combinations of 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. OnePlus 5’s 8 GB RAM model is available in India. However, there is no confirmation on the Nubia Z17 models that will be available in India.

Another amazing feature of the ZTE Nubia Z17 is that it features a dual rear camera system featuring a 23-megapixel sensor and a 13-megapixel sensor. As of this writing, there is no information available on the exact release timeframe of Nubia Z17 for India. The three variants of the Nubia Z17 are selling for 2,799 Yuan (~$410), 3,399 Yuan (~$497) and 3,999 Yuan (~$585) in China. Meanwhile, ZTE is also preparing on the launch of Nubia Z17 Lite in China as it has already received approval from TENAA certification body in China.

The Nubia Z17 flagship smartphone that was released recently is one of the most powerful smartphones of this year. Now, ZTE appears to be working on the launch a stripped-down edition of its flagship. The alleged Nubia Z17 Lite has surfaced on TENAA with a model number of NX591J.

According to TENAA listing, the NX5911 Nubia phone measures 152.8 x 72.55 x 7.95mm and its weight is 169 grams. It features a 5.5-inch TFT screen that offers FHD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Below the display is the trademark red ring Home button. The alleged Nubia Z17 Lite is fueled by 2.0 GHz octa-core processor. The exact name of the chipset is not present on the TENAA listing. It will be coming with a 3,100mAh battery which is slightly smaller than the 3,200mAh battery present on the Nubia Z17.

The alleged Nubia Z17 Lite features 6 GB of RAM. The native storage of the phone is 64 GB. The phone features a dual rear camera system. However, the TENAA listing only reveals the main camera of the dual camera module as 12-megapixel and it does not mention any information about the secondary camera sensor. A dual-LED flash can be seen next to the twin camera system.

Like the Nubia Z17 flagship, its alleged Lite edition may also feature a 12-megapixel sensor + a 23-megapixel sensor. The front side of the phone has a 16-megapixel sensor. The rear side of the phone also features a fingerprint reader and a nubia logo at the center. It will come loaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat that will be overlaid with the latest nubia UI skin. It will be arriving in color choices like black, silver and gold.

Since the device has appeared on TENAA, it seems that the arrival of the Nubia Z17 Lite is close at hand. At present, there is no information on the pricing and availability of the phone.

The Nubia Z17 that is currently only available in China is the world’s first smartphone to support Quick Charge 4+ rapid charging feature from Qualcomm. Moreover, it is also the first Snapdragon 835 smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. Apart from its dual camera feature, it features a true bezel-less display. The only major competitors for the Nubia Z17 is the OnePlus 5 and Xiaomi Mi 6.

The ZTE Nubia Z17 is the first Chinese flagship smartphone to come with Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. The highly popular Xiaomi Mi 6 which is also a very impressive flagship features the same Snapdragon 835 SoC but with 6 GB of RAM. Now, after months of leaks, the OnePlus 5 has been finally announced. Since it also features SD 835, 8 GB RAM and dual camera modules like the Nubia Z17, it would be interesting to see how both the smartphones stack up against each other.

OnePlus 5 vs. ZTE Nubia Z17: Display & Design

Display

OnePlus 5 continues to sport a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED screen like the predecessor, OnePlus 3T. It supports a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It supports a wider DCI-P3 color space and users are provided with display-centric features like Night mode and Reading mode. It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 73 percent and supports a pixel density of 403 ppi. The screen is shielded with Gorilla Glass 5.

The ZTE Nubia Z17, on the other hand, is fitted with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel that offers an FHD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It is a true bezel-less display that is equipped with Refractive Conduction Technology that makes the screen pop-out. Also, the Fringe Interactive Technology enables the Nubia Z17 to support edge gestures. It delivers a higher screen-to-body ratio of 74.7 percent. The version of the Gorilla Glass placed on the display of Nubia Z17 is not known yet.

Design

OnePlus 5 is the slimmest OnePlus phone so far as it measures 7.3 mm in thickness. It measures 154.2 x 74.1 mm and its weight is 153 grams. Its 64 GB model will come in Slate Gray color whereas the 128 GB variant will be available in Midnight Black color. OnePlus retains the same metal unibody design like its predecessor but lacks IP certification. It continues to sport a 3.5mm audio jack. Its fingerprint scanner is embedded under the Home button.

On the other side, the ZTE Nubia Z17 measures 152.6 x 72.4 x 7.6 mm and it weighs 173 grams. It comes in vibrant color choices such as Aurora Blue, Black Gold, Obsidian Black, Solar Gold and Flame Red. It also features a full metallic chassis and IP68 rating which makes it resistant to dust and water. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Our Pick: Nubia Z17

The OnePlus 5 has been criticized for its resemblance with iPhone 7 Plus. However, the bezel-less display of the Nubia Z17 along with IP68 certification and unique design makes it a winner in this segment.

Processor, RAM, and Storage

The OnePlus 5 and ZTE Nubia Z17 are both fueled by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The 64 GB model of OnePlus 5 comes with 6 GB of RAM whereas its 128 GB variant has 8 GB of RAM. The Nubia Z17 comes in three variants such as 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The OP5 and Z17 are enabled with LPDDRX RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. Both the smartphones lack microSD card storage.

Battery

OnePlus 5 comes with a 3,300mAh battery. The company claims that battery can charge from zero to 95 percent in one hour through its Dash Charge rapid charging feature. The ZTE Nubia Z17 is the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ that promises 50 percent battery power by charging it only for 25 minutes.

Our Pick: Tie

It’s a bit difficult to choose a winner by theoretically comparing the hardware specs of the two phones as both come with SD 835, 6 GB / 8 GB RAM options, 64 GB and 128 GB storage options and similarly sized batteries. However, a winner in this segment can be only decided with real-world usage and by performing benchmark tests.

OnePlus 5 vs. ZTE Nubia Z17: Cameras

Rear Camera

The OnePlus 5 and ZTE Nubia Z17 are both enabled with dual rear cameras. OnePlus 5’s dual camera system includes a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture wide-angle lens. It offers features like 1.12micron pixel size, PDAF, 2x optical zoom, EIS and dual-LED flash. it is coupled with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX350 telephone lens with f/2.6 aperture.

The ZTE Nubia Z17’s rear-facing dual camera setup includes a 23-megapixel f/2.0 aperture lens and a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture lens. It also comes with features such as 1.4micron pixel size, PDAF, Dual Autofocus, artificial intelligence, 2x optical zoom and dual-LED flash.

Front Camera

The OnePlus 5’s frontal shooter includes a 16-megapixel Sony IMX350 sensor with f/2.0 aperture.  It is enabled with features like EIS and Auto HDR. The Nubia Z17 features a 16-megapixel that comprises of an 80-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture for snapping selfies.

Our Pick: Undecided

Again, the two phones are very strong competitors in the camera department as both are capable of shooting amazing photos even in low-light conditions as well as images with bokeh effect. The true winner between the two can be found only after personally testing both the camera capabilities of the dual rear lenses. However, it seems that OP5 is a better phone for shooting selfies than Nubia Z17.

OnePlus 5 vs. ZTE Nubia Z17: Features & iOS

OnePlus 5 comes with features like dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD, 4G LTE, dual band Wi-Fi, NFC and USB Type-C. It is running on OxygenOS flavored Android 7.1.1 Nougat that comes with some new features like reading mode and off-screen gestures.

The Nubia Z17 is also a 4G dual-SIM phone and it comes with some other features such as Bluetooth v4.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, IR blaster, Dolby Atmos speakers, USB Type-C, and USB OTG. The Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS customized with Nubia 5.0 UI comes preinstalled on the device. The Nubia Z17 is the first smartphone from the company to come with NeoSmart intelligence engine.

Our Pick: OnePlus 5

Both phones come with the latest Android Nougat version that are modified with their respective proprietary user interface. Compared to Nubia Z17, the OnePlus 5 tries to deliver stock Android experience and fluid performance.

Availability & Pricing

The OnePlus 5 is the first smartphone from the brand to break the $500 mark. Its 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage model is priced at $479 whereas the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB variant costs $539. It would be arriving in the U.S., Europe, Canada on June 27. It will be available in India and China from June 22. In China, 64 GB and 128 GB OnePlus 5 will be priced at 3,228 Yuan and 3,665 Yuan. In India, 64 GB and 128 GB models of OnePlus 5 will be selling with a respective pricing of Rs. 32,999 and Rs. 37,999. The phone will be also launching in Hong Kong.

The Nubia Z17 is only a major threat in the domestic markets as it is currently not available for purchase outside of China. Its three variants such as 6 GB RAM + 64 GB, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB, and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage are respectively priced at 2,799 Yuan (~$410), 3,399 Yuan (~$497) and 3,999 Yuan (~$585).

OnePlus 5 vs. ZTE Nubia Z17: Conclusion

The OnePlus 5 will be available in wider markets within few weeks. However, it does not seem that the Nubia Z17 will be arriving in all the markets where the OnePlus 5 will be available. Hence, the only market where the Nubia Z17 can give tough competition to OP5 at present is China.

In terms of design, the ZTE Nubia Z17 appears to have a better appeal with bezel-less design along with a water and dust-resistant chassis. Moreover, it comes in multiple color choices than OP5. For many users, a 3.5mm headphone jack is still an important feature which is unavailable on the Nubia Z17, but available on the OP5. Both the beasts appear to be on par with each other in terms of hardware performance thanks to their high-end specs.  As far as camera prowess is concerned, the photos snapped using the Nubia Z17 show how impressive it is in this department.

A few days ago, Nubia released its flagship smartphone, the Nubia Z17 at the Water Cube in Beijing. Nubia smartphones have impressed us in the past featuring an excellent combination of performance and hardware and we were glad to see that the Z17 continues the same tradition.

Nubia Z17 Design & Display

Nubia was one of the first mainstream smartphone brands to popularize the concept of bezel-less display on its flagship phones, starting with the Z9. The company has improved the technology in its third generation bezel-less flagship, the Nubia Z17, using a new version of its Refractive Conduction Technology to make the display pop out. The aRC technology is much more refined now and this has enabled the company to reduce the thickness of the phone giving a better in-hand feel. You can see how aRC works in the diagram down below.

While aRC tech makes the display really bezel-less, there’s more to these edges. The Nubia Z17 carries forward FiT (Frame Interactive Technology) to enable edge gestures. So, you can still adjust the brightness, go back, switch apps — all via simple gestures on the display edges. We have seen this feature work smoothly on earlier models and I was glad to see the same continues with the Z17. Apart from this, there’s an additional FiT card feature as well, which is basically a smart summary of everything on the phone. The FiT card contains a lot of useful information like your reminders, recent files etc and you have this just one swipe away. It’s pretty cool.

Nubia Z17 Dual Camera Performance

Another stand-out feature of Nubia phones has been innovative photography. The camera app offers shooting modes not available on other devices, such as electronic aperture, light painting, star track, time, cloning, delay photography, multiple exposure, etc. These features have been improved upon in the Z17.

One of my favorite feature on the phone is the clone camera. The app captures a person/ object in different parts of a frame and stitches them together to create one seamless photo. You’ll look like you have a team of clones – or twins – with you in one shot. Once you get the hang of this app and start posting it on social media, I am sure will get a lot of questions from your followers about your Z17.

The software has always played an important role in a smartphone camera, but the Z17 makes substantial improvements in the camera hardware as well. Adopting the trend, the new Nubia flagship comes with two powerful cameras at the back. Apart from improving the quality of the images captured, the two cameras at the back perform a very important function of creating a smooth SLR like depth of field effect. It’s worth adding that Nubia Z17 makes use of a smart AI technology to ensure the blurring effect is more natural.

If you really take the time to play with the Nubia Z17’s camera, you can capture some amazing bokeh photos. A few samples with depth of field effect are given below.

The dual rear cameras are 12 megapixels + 23 megapixels (yes, the 23MP sensor is the secondary camera), with 1.4μm single large size pixel similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, sensor size is 1/2.55 inches, f1.8 big aperture, 2x dual-camera zoom, 10x dynamic zoom. The imaging quality, as you can see from samples, is excellent. The front camera is of 16 million pixels.

In your everyday usage, the Z17 will manage to capture very good amount of details with realistic saturation levels. Unlike the Huawei P10 which sometimes oversaturate the images captured, Z17 manages to keep the colors quite realistic. Even in low light situations, the photos come out quite bright, but colors may be a bit dull. I have used the Z17 as well as P10 side by side and I find the Z17 manages to keep the noise extremely low.

Nubia Z17 AnTuTu Benchmark & Hardware

Under the hood, the Z17 is impressive too, with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6 / 8GB RAM, 64 / 128 GB UFS2.1 flash storage. On the AnTuTu benchmark, the device scored an impressive 180,745, just a tad lower than the iPhone 7 Plus. Note that there’s no headphone jack on board and you have to use a type-C convertor or type-C headphones on the device.

Nubia Z17 Battery Life

With built-in 3200mAh battery together with Nubia NeoPower3.0 technology, the company claims that it provide up to 2.5 days of usage in one single charge. That’s actually a pretty big claim, given the battery capacity. On a realistic note, you can expect the Nubia Z17 to breeze through more than a day even under power use. That’s pretty impressive and says a lot about the efficient 10nm Snapdragon 835 and Neopower 3.0 software optimizations on the phone.

Even when the battery is falling below 40%, you can squeeze out another day’s usage using the super power saving modes available. Of course, these modes limit the functionality of the phone to a major extent, but it can come in handy during emergencies.

The Z17 supports Qualcomm quick charge 4.0 by utilizing dual circuit charging to choose the best charging circuit. The result is charging times that’s 20% faster than quick charge 3.0.

So, I ll make one thing clear — Nubia Z17 is indeed the first smartphone with QC 4+ support. But you won’t get QC 4+ speeds yet, because there isn’t a QC 4+ compatible charger yet (blame Qualcomm for this). So, until you can get hold of a fast 4.0 generation charger, you’ll have to be happy with the pretty good QC 3.0 speeds. I personally managed to charge my phone from near 0% to 50% in just 25 minutes, which is pretty good for my everyday usage.

The Z17 is also water-proof, the first Nubia device to do so. So if you’re stuck in the rain or get wet by the pool, have no worries because the Z17 will work fine. You can even talk on the phone during a shower! This is useful because you can simply wash your Z17 when it gets dirty. But do note that the phone is not meant to be used underwater, so don’t get too excited to plan an underwater photography session.

There are many more hardware features that are worth mentioning. The Z17 comes with NFC functionality — users can use it to pay, transfer data, and connect to speakers, etc. With MIMO dual antennas, the WIFI connection speed is 100% faster than last generation’s devices. The Z17’s speakers use a professional grade of BASS stuffed material and SmartPA speaker technology. The fingerprint sensor is super fast and works well to unlock as well as make payments with the phone.

Nubia Z17 Review Conclusion

As far as overall performance goes, Nubia Z17 is a very worthy flagship, making it one of the best Android flagship in the market right now.

With the Snapdragon 835 chip and 6 / 8GB of RAM, the performance on the device is super smooth. There are many other features that make the Z17 special, like the aRC technology, the FiT gestures that has become more mature and the newly added waterproofing feature. But the real highlight of the Z17 is the dual camera setup at the back, a rather good one, which manages to capture great low light images, thanks to the large pixel sensor. The support for high-quality dual camera zoom up to 2x times is an added plus.

If you can ignore the fact that the phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, the Z17 is worthy of being called as one of the best flagship smartphones in the market right now.

Nubia Z17’s entry into the smartphone market brought yet another dual camera choice for us customers. But having so many flagships feature a similar dual camera setup could end up being confusing for all of us. These are flagship models, which means their camera quality would be pretty good by default. This is particularly evident in the pictures taken in daylight wherein most 2017 flagship cameras would do a great job of getting detailed, clear and focused shots. But things are a bit different when it comes to low light images. The same flagships who did well in the daytime may not perform as well as we would expect at night, which is why it makes sense to see which brand has optimized their cameras for the best images, including in low-light environment. And while playing around with the newly announced Nubia Z17 (hands on here!), I was quite surprised to see a stark difference in the low-light image quality from the Z17 as compared to the Huawei P10 and Xiaomi Mi 6 models.

First up, Nubia is known for its stellar camera quality and its Neovision software. The company’s phones have managed to take pretty good pictures in the past and the same continues with the Z17. We will definitely bring a comparison of the Nubia Z17 vs Huawei P10 vs Xiaomi Mi 6 camera performance in daylight (most likely by today evening) but first, let us check out how these three smartphones perform in low-light situations. So, we are comparing these three flagships from top brands in China to see which one has better low-light images.

So, look at this image. The leftmost sample is from the Nubia 17 (also evident from the watermark) and at the center is the Huawei P10 sample and on the right lies the Mi 6 sample. The Nubia Z17 clearly takes the more vibrant and brighter image of the three. P10’s sample looks warmer and the colors are good while the Mi 6’s sample looks pretty dull. Out of the three, I would clearly select Z17’s sample as the best because of its clarity and light. The green leaves are a bit better on the P10, but still, the best overall picture has to be the Z17’s sample. You can further see Nubia Z17’s stellar performance in low light in the samples down below. I’m actually quite impressed with Nubia’s dual cameras.

In some instances, the Huawei P10 does take better images (more color and less noise). For example, in the image of the doll down below, the colors are better on the P10 and the noise is limited as well.

This year has been quite exciting in terms of smartphone releases, with multiple brands, even the ones that failed in 2016, releasing flagships that are worthy of our attention. The Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi 6, Huawei P10 (except for that memory issue) have all been capable smartphones. Last week, we got an addition to that list, thanks to ZTE’s subsidiary, Nubia. The brand announced one of the first 8GB smartphones to be released in the market, the Nubia Z17 and guess what, we have already got our hands on this bezel-less beauty!

The Nubia Z17 continues on the bezel-less design used by its predecessor, the Z11 and comes with the new generation aRC 3.0 (arc refractive conduction) to ensure the minimum thickness of the screen. In fact, the front of the phone looks beautiful with the screen extending to the sides. However, the bezels on the top as well as the bottom are quite significant and if we had to pick out something to complain in the Nubia Z17 Hands on, those bezels would be on top of our list. Still, the overall phone feels good to hold, not too large and in fact, because of its bezel-less sides, the phone is just as wide as the Mi 6 (less than 2mm difference). If you have ever got the Nubia Z11 in your hands, then you know the Z17’s size as well because of its near similar dimensions.

Wait, actually, I have a photo comparing the Z17 vs Mi 6 side by side.

The built quality of the Nubia Z17 is pretty good, which has been one of the company’s highlights. The metal body gives the phone a sturdy built without any issues of getting fingerprint marks at the back. The back texture is simple and the dual cameras are on the top corner of the back along with a dual tone LED flash. The dual camera does protrude a little from the back but we haven’t faced any scratching issues yet. Nubia seems to have taken care of the glass covering the camera setup. There’s a fingerprint sensor at the back as well, which was fast and responsive in our initial hands on.

The display looks vibrant and the touch response is good. The red circular home button is capacitive.

The dual 23MP + 12MP setup at the back is actually pretty impressive. It’s fast and might even be better than Xiaomi Mi 6‘s dual cameras. We will definitely pitch them both together for a dual camera shootout in the next couple of days. The overall Nubia UI is fast and responsive.

ZTE’s elite brand Nubia launched the Z17 flagship on June 1 with the first sale slated to hold on June 6 on Jingdong as well as on Nubia’s official store.  The Nubia Z17 did indeed go on sale today as schedule and the record of the sales from Jingdong indicate that the Z17 was sold out in record time and quantity. Jingdong says it sold 10K units of the Z17 in just 51 seconds. That isn’t all, the Nubia flagship only needed four minutes before breaking Jingdong’s single product first sales figure in the mobile phone category.

The Z17’s sales performance isn’t much of a surprise considering the strong specs lineup it launched with. The Nubia Z17 is perhaps the most spectacular Snapdragon 835-powered smartphone around presently as a result of the massive 8GB RAM it features on its topmost model. That makes it one of the first smartphones in the world to feature such, second only to the Zenfone AR. The Z17 is also the first device to utilise Qualcomm’s latest Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology even though users won’t get a supported charger for now. The flagship device also packs a dual camera setup at the rear which is a telephoto and wide angle lenses. The flagship also has waterproof properties.

Another quality that may have triggered the record sales the  Nubia Z17 achieved may be its competitive price tag. The 6GB + 64GB Z17 version retails at 2799 Yuan ($411) while the 6GB + 128GB variant retails at 3399 Yuan ($500). Surprisingly, the topmost 8GB + 128GB variant costs just 3999 Yuan ($587). This price makes the Z17 well positioned to take on the Xiaomi Mi 6. The next round of sales would commence on June 12 at 10 AM (CST).

ZTE’s elite brand Nubia announced its 2017 flagship on June 1 with some admirable features both in the design and the hardware. The Nubia Z17 joins the exclusive list of Snapdragon 835-powered smartphones and it even takes it further by becoming the first SD835 phone with a whopping 8GB of RAMand also one of the first smartphones in the market with such a large RAM size.

When the Nubia Z17 was launched, one of the features which made headlines was the support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0, later revealed to be QC 4+. The Z17 was tipped to be the first smartphone to come with support for the latest fast charging technology which none of the other SD 835-powered phones feature. But in a shocking twist, Nubia customer service has revealed that the Z17 only comes with a Quick Charge 3.0 charger because right now there are no QC 4.0 chargers available.

Apparently, Qualcomm only made the Snapdragon 835 have support for QC 4+ without developing a charger that supports the feature yet. So in that case, Nubia included QC 3.0 charger with the Z17 which is clearly touted as having QC 4+ support. Rightly so, the Nubia Z17 comes with support for Qualcomm’s latest QC 4+ but since you don’t get a supported charger inside the package, all you can achieve is QC 3.0.

That is some level of fast charging technology but Quick Charge 4+ is up to 15 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient, while charging up to 5° C cooler. The fast charge is touted as capable of delivering up to 50% of charge in just 5 minutes. Unfortunately, users won’t get that for now. The company has not revealed if they would be making the charger available later on or when that would be. But it is possible the charger will be sold separately whenever it becomes available since that is the only hindrance to the use of the feature.

We welcome one of the most powerful flagship smartphones from China today, the Nubia Z17. The phone has been in the news for the past few weeks and now it’s finally official. The Z17 becomes one of the first smartphones in the market (after Zenfone AR) with a massive 8GB of RAM inside. This definitely makes the phone special, considering how China is obsessed with specifications.

Nubia Z17 Design

The basic design of the Nubia Z17 remains the same as its predecessor, the Z11. However, the company has made a few changes at the back, like adding a dual camera setup on the top left corner as well as adopting industry’s first single slit antenna design. The body is still metal at the back. Further, the company is using the new generation aRC 3.0 (arc Refractive Conduction) which helps to keep the thickness of the display glass to a bare minimum and makes the compact and borderless screen design possible. The front features the traditional red circular home button (capacitive). The fingerprint sensor is located at the back of the phone, above the Nubia logo.

There are five color options for the Nubia Z17 —  Black Gold, Black, Gold, Blue and Red.

Nubia Z17 Specs

While there may not be significant changes in the design as compared to the first generation Nubia Z11, the Z17 makes sure the specs are upgraded to meet the demands of 2017. Under the hood, the phone comes with the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835 clocked at 2.45GHz along with a massive 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM. There are other memory options available like 6GB + 64GB /128GB. Note that Nubia particularly highlights that the storage is the super fast UFS 2.1 standard (probably to ensure users they get the fast memory unlike the Huawei P10). With this setup, you will never have to worry about gaming on the phone. The screen is bezel-less and comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Note that there’s no headphone jack on the phone nor does it support MicroSD expansion.

The phone features a 3200mAh battery inside which charges up to 50% in 25 minutes. It isn’t as large as some of the batteries inside competitors but with NeoPower 3.0 software, you should get a day out of it. The phone is splashproof as well, so you won’t have to worry taking it out in the rains.

As for the software, the phone comes with Android 7.1 with Nubia UI 5.0 on top. Connectivity features include Dolby Atmos, Hi-Fi+, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi ac.

Nubia Z17 Camera

Nubia adopted dual cameras on its new smartphones released in 2017. So, it’s no surprise that the Nubia Z17 comes with a dual camera setup as well. It’s a powerful setup that consists of a 23MP + 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 1.4um large pixel. The setup supports 2x optical zoom and 10x dynamic zoom. The focus time is also impressive at 0.03 seconds. With large aperture and pixels, the company promises great low light images with the Z17’s dual camera setup.

The camera setup is complemented by the company’s popular NeoVision 7.0 software which uses a bunch of smart algorithms to improve dual camera performance, zoom, scene recognition as well as video recording. There’s a special Wi-Fi camera feature as well which allows you to remotely control another smartphone to capture images from its camera.

The Nubia Z17 also comes with the new Portrait Mode 2.0 which adds a bunch of AI algorithms to optimize features such as depth of field as well as portrait profile. This seems to be similar to what we see on other dual camera phones like iPhone 7 Plus and the Huawei P10.

As for the front camera, the Z17 comes with a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide angle lens.

Nubia Z17 Price & Availability

There are three variants available for the Nubia Z17, and surprisingly there isn’t a 4GB RAM version.

The 6GB + 64GB Nubia Z17 version retails at 2799 Yuan ($411).

The 6GB + 128GB variant retails at 3399 Yuan ($500).

Finally, the super flagship 8GB + 128GB variant will go on sale for 3999 Yuan ($587).

Nubia will start accepting registrations for the first sale at 9PM today and the Z17 will officially go on sale on June 6 at 10AM on Nubia’s official store as well as JD.com.

We are all set to meet the ZTE Nubia Z17 flagship later tonight, at 7PM Beijing time to be precise. But before the official release of the handset, we have finally got a good look at the Z17, thanks to Nubia’s brand ambassador, Cristiano Ronaldo. We have seen him reveal the brand’s smartphones just before its release via official posters and he did the same with the Nubia Z17. In the poster released by his official Weibo account, we have a good look at the back of the smartphone.

Turns out, I was right to say that the leaked Honor 8-like renders of the Nubia Z17 were going to be the final design. The poster confirms an iPhone 7 Plus like dual camera arrangement and a mirror-like finish on the back, similar to the Honor 8. Even the blue color reminds us of the Honor phone. But the overall design looks classy and I am sure a number of Nubia fans would be happy to see the mirror finish on the back. Given the finish, metal back seems unlikely and it should be a glass body.

We seem to have got a good look of the phone’s front as well, thanks to another poster. It’s pretty simple with a decent amount of bezels on the top as well as the bottom. The phone continues the bezel-less display design on the sides as well as the red circle capacitive home button.

After looking at the back as well as front, the phone seems to be designed well. Nubia smartphones are known for its impressive design and built, and we can expect the same on the Z17. The specs are expected to be top-end with Snapdragon 835 and 6GB RAM powering it. And there are rumors about 8GB of RAM inside! So, there’s a good reason for all of us to be excited. We have bonus image of a Nubia Z17 case as well, which we have added below. But since we’ve already seen the complete design, the case won’t reveal any additional details about the phone. Now, to be honest, the case first reminded me of the iPhone 7 Plus with a cut out for Apple’s logo near the center. But given that the placement of the buttons are on the right side of the phone, the case does look like it’s of the Z17.

Nubia Z17 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017. Nubia, as a company, may not be as famous as Xiaomi or Huawei, but the brand is known to release some of the best-looking smartphones in the market. So let’s take a look at the expected Nubia Z17 Specs, Price, Release and other details down below.

ZTE Nubia Z17 Design Rumors:

There are two major design renders circulating on the internet claiming to be the real Nubia Z17 design. One of the renders show off a curvier phone with dual curved display up front, curved corners and vertically arranged dual cameras at the back. Just below the camera setup lies the fingerprint sensor. There’s the traditional red Nubia circle on the capacitive home button as well.

The second render shows off the phone with an Honor 8-like design in blue. This render is not as curvier as the one above but comes with a bezel-less design, red home button, and a mirror-like design at the back that we first saw on the Honor 8. Now, we believe this one to be the real design, especially because the Nubia Z17 passed through TENAA and the design on the certification site seems to be very similar to this render. The dual cameras are arranged horizontally, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus and there’s a dual tone LED flash beside it. The fingerprint sensor lies near the center of the back and below it is the Nubia logo. 

The first render confirmed a 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone, but we can’t see the top of the phone in the second renders, so we are unsure about the headphone jack’s existence.

Nubia Z17 Specs Rumors:

AnTutu and TENAA have always been the reliable sources of smartphone specs before its launch. The same applies for the Nubia Z17. The phone was spotted on AnTuTu, Geekbench as well as TENAA, confirming that it will feature the Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset inside. There will be a 5.5-inch bezel-less display and multiple memory variants like 4GB / 6GB RAM and 64GB / 128GB ROM options. What makes this phone even more interesting is the recent reports about 8GB of RAM inside. This would make it one of the first smartphones (after ZenFone AR) in the market to feature such large RAM capacity. Although the added advantage of 8GB RAM inside a smartphone is a topic of debate, it sure would be a big deal for many tech enthusiasts.

As for the cameras, the Z17 is said to feature dual 12MP sensors at the back. TENAA wasn’t clear about the camera specs, but it showed a 23MP sensor (there could be a secondary 12MP sensor) at the back and a 16MP shooter up front. We’ll have to wait for official details to confirm these specs.

The phone should run on Android 7.1.1 with Nubia’s redesigned UI. Inside, there should be a modest 3100mAh battery. At least two color options are expected, Gold and Silver. Finally, the company has confirmed that the Z17 will be waterproof and dustproof, which is good news considering the Z11 wasn’t waterproof.

ZTE Nubia Z17 Price & Availability:

Nubia Z series has always been the premium lineup of the brand and naturally, it commands a premium price tag as well. We haven’t got any significant rumors about the Z17’s price tag, however, considering last year’s models were announced at 2499 yuan (~$366 for 4GB RAM variant) and 3499 Yuan (~$512 for 6GB RAM variant), this year, the price could go a bit higher. That’s what the trend has been lately, including with the Xiaomi Mi 6. And if there’s an 8GB RAM version, don’t expect it to be cheaper than $600.

The Nubia Z17 will be launched tomorrow and should be available for purchase the following week. Initially, the phone should be available only in China but may head to other markets like India after a couple of months.

In what could likely be its final daily teaser, Nubia has teased the Z17 as coming with a waterproof body. This isn’t the first time we would be finding out about the waterproof feature of the Z17 flagship but it is the first (well, maybe second) official confirmation of this feature.

Nubia’s co-founder Ni Fei had earlier confirmed the flagship as coming with an IP67 or IP68 waterproof body and this waterproof feature had been demonstrated in a video which leaked a couple of weeks back. The official teaser puts a final seal to the confirmation as it touts that you don’t have to be scared to take the phone out even when it is windy or rainy. This not only confirms the waterproof property but also its dustproof capabilities as dust flies around when it is windy.

The Nubia Z17 promises to be an awesome smartphone, no doubt a true flagship, considering the top-end design and features it is coming with. The Z17 is said to come with a borderless display as well as a dual camera setup and onboard is a Snapdragon 835 chip with 6GB of RAM (there is a rumour of an 8GB RAM version). The device has recently been teased as well as coming with an artificial intelligence (AI) technology which it calls NU. As Nubia’s June 1 flagship conference draw closer, the company continues to tease more and more features of the Z17 as well as the bezel-less device which would likely be launched on that day. The Nubia Z17 has been shown to have a waterproof body and its water resistance feature has been demonstrated in a leaked video. The Z17 is also coming with Qualcomm’s latest chip as well as a dual camera setup. Nubia’s latest teaser focuses on the picture quality of the Z17’s camera.

According to the poster released a few days back, the Nubia Z17 will have good dual cameras which will support 2X zoom shot with the same clarity as without zoom. The dual camera will also have a good night shooting function. The teaser contains an image which projects this powerful feature of the Z17’s camera but which we are not sure is shot be the camera.

The teaser still points at a bezel-less design for the Nubia Z17 and that put us in a confused state if Nubia will be unveiling two smartphones on that day or just the Z17. A leaked image had emerged showing the upper half of a Nubia smartphone with a nearly bezel-less design. The phone is said to be a Nubia bezel-less phone with a screen to body ratio that is likely higher than the Galaxy S8 and even the Xiaomi Mix and not the Z17 but we really can’t be so sure about that. June 1 promises to be an interesting day for tech fans.

Nubia has an event slated for June 1 where the company is expected to release a new smartphone in China. The Nubia Z17 is expected to be released on that day and there have been several teaser posters to that effect. Nubia again released a pre-launch teaser today showing its upcoming device will have a borderless design. Now, the poster suggests it’s going to be an entirely bezel-less affair but the leaked photos of the Z17 doesn’t reflect such level of bezel-lessness. There are indications that Nubia will launch a truly bezel-less smartphone apart from the Z17 and the device will have a high screen-to-body ratio.

We have seen a couple of leaked photos said to be those of the Z17 but recently we brought you an exclusive photo of a leaked bezel-less Nubia smartphone. The leaked image, which the source claim isn’t the Z17, only revealed the top half of the device with ultra-thin borders. Well, we were able to come up with a sketch of what the other half of the front of the Nubia phone looks like. Indeed we may be looking at a revolutionary device without bezels on the side edges and very narrow bezels at the top and bottom. The sketch looks so real you might want to think this is the real design in its entirety but the aspect we are sure of is the upper half. From what we can perceive, the device may have a higher screen to body ratio, even higher than the Galaxy S8 and even the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

The top bezel which is just enough for the selfie camera and phone receiver also houses a dual selfie camera setup. On the other hand, the sketch shows that there is still a front virtual home button marked by the trademark Nubia red ring. Whether this is a new Nubia phone launching soon, we’ll find out about that

Just to remind you that the Nubia Z17 comes with a dual camera setup at the rear and has been confirmed by its TENAA listing to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chip backed by 6GB of RAM. There are talks of an 8GB version in the works also. The Z17 may likely not get a bezel-less design since Nubia likely has another device with a bezel-less design. ZTE’s elite brand, Nubia will be releasing its 2017 flagship which it christened Nubia z17 on June 1. Ahead of the launch event, the company has commenced what could be daily teasing of the Z17’s main features.

The company today posted a new teaser on the Nubia smartphone Weibo page which teases the Z17’s bezel-less design that sees the reduction in the side bezels around the screen. The leaked images of the Nubia flagship may not have given us a clear glimpse of the extent of the curves the screen would have because the teaser suggests it would be curved on all four sides.

However, it looks like the company is working on another super flagship, apart from the Z17. We are not yet sure about the name of this upcoming device but what we have today from our source is a glimpse of the flagship and it’s definitely beautiful. We don’t get to see the entire smartphone in this leaked image, but the bezel-less design looks quite impressive.

The first thing we notice about the phone is that it has got a beautiful bezel-less display. The screen is curved on both the sides, once again confirming that the company is completely adopting a bezel-less design on its flagship phones. But it’s not just the sides, as the thickness of the top bezel is also impressive. It’s super thin, which is what we like these days and could, in fact, be thinner than Galaxy S8‘s bezel on the top.

While the display is the first thing that pops out in the image, if you look carefully at the top bezel what you’ll notice is there are two camera sensors on top. Now, having a camera sensor in such a thin frame would be great, but here, there’s a dual camera setup on the front, which is even more impressive. Considering how Nubia’s camera quality has always been stellar, this upcoming device could be capable of capturing amazing selfies.

Now note that Nubia’s recent releases (Nubia Z17 Mini and the Nubia M2) have dual camera setup at the back. So, there’s a very good chance that the phone features four cameras in total, making it a powerful camera flagship. Further, it is being said that the phone will come with the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, ensuring that it has got the best chip in the market.

Considering how Nubia has a media event on June 1, it’s likely that we are set to see this beautiful flagship at that event alongside the Nubia Z17 flagship. Qualcomm announced its next-generation Quick Charge 4.0 around November last year, which it disclosed would come with the Snapdragon 835 chip. The Snapdragon 835 is already rolling, with the Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xperia XZ Premium packing the chip, but we are yet to see the QC 4.0 on any of these smartphones. This is perhaps due to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 explosion saga.

The Galaxy S8 only featured support for a 15W QC 2.0 fast charge, while the Mi 6 and Xperia XZ Premium come with support for 18W QC 3.0 fast charge support. That is about to change as Nubia has now teased that its upcoming flagship, the Z17 would feature the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0. The Nubia Z17 is already confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 835 processor which makes it just the right candidate to feature support for QC 4.0. Nubia is reported to have revealed this via a Weibo post which, unfortunately, we could not locate. The post was accompanied by a poster which shows that the device would be launched on June 1, 2016.

As for the features, the QC 4.0 is not just faster, it’s designed to be more efficient and run cooler than prior generations.  When compared to Quick Charge 3.0, Quick Charge 4 is up-to 20 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient, while charging up to 5° C cooler. The fast charge is touted as capable of delivering up to 50% of charge in just 5 minutes.

Over the weekend, Nubia sent out invites for the launch of its flagship phone the Nubia Z17. We also got to see a number of press renders that teased the design of the phone. Today, a live image of the phone has surfaced online.

The image shows the phone face up in a bid to hide its dual rear cameras but gives us a chance to see the really thin side-bezels. Looking at the display, it appears to be larger than 5.5-inches, probably 5.7-inches.

Sitting on the bottom bezel is the signature holo home button, and at the top we have the front facing camera, the earpiece, and the light sensor.

When the Nubia Z17 launches, it will add to the growing list of Snapdragon 835-powered smartphones. Unlike the Xiaomi Mi 6, which is the only other Snapdragon 835 smartphone from a Chinese manufacturer for now, the Nubia Z17 will have an IP 67 rating. This means you can immerse it in water up to 1 meter deep for a period of 30 minutes.

Personally, this color variant of the phone doesn’t look attractive, so we are looking forward to the blue variant in the press renders or one with black bezels.

ZTE’s sub-brand, Nubia is set to launch a new smartphone soon. Named the Nubia Z17, it has made an appearance on TENAA and has also been seen on the official website. Invites for an event scheduled for June 1 have been sent out which we believe is for the launch of the phone.

The key features of the Nubia Z17 are its Snapdragon 835 processor, IP67 rating and dual rear cameras. The invite also hints at a form of AI integration as the letters “a” and “i” in the words “Nubiaimagination” are highlighted in red.

Alongside the invite, press renders of a Nubia smartphone have also leaked online. We want to believe they are the Nubia Z17 but they look different from the phone we saw on the website.

The phone in the render is blue with a reflective back that looks just like that of the Honor 8. This means the Nubia Z17 will have a glass back. It will also have a rear mounted fingerprint scanner positioned above the Nubia logo.

While the images cleverly avoid revealing the dual cameras, we can tell that it is definitely not a vertical setup. The Nubia logo already sits in the middle, and a few millimeters above it lies the fingerprint sensor. It won’t be sensible to place the sensors vertically with this design. We can then agree that the image from the TENAA listing which has the cameras positioned horizontally is what we should expect.

The press renders also provides a glimpse at the display which is bezel-less at the sides. We also get a look at the signature holo red home button, the USB Type-C port and the speaker grille.

The Nubia Z17 is expected to have a 5.5-inch FHD display, 4GB/6GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB of storage. There is a 16MP front facing camera, and a 3100mAh battery.

Just yesterday, we brought you the news of a leaked video which popped up on China’s Weibo, purported to be that of the upcoming Nubia Z17 functioning under water. The video was meant to demonstrate the IP67 waterproof feature that the Z17 is said to come with. If you still think the video is fake, you may want to think again.

Nubia co-founder and smartphone general manager, Ni Fei has teased the waterproof feature of the Z17 via a Weibo post on his official account. The post seems to be an analysis of the leaked video which showed the Z17 inside a sink and subjected to running tap water. Ni Fei’s post also contained the picture of a working smartphone under a running water source and quite clearly, we could see that this is a Nubia smartphone.

There is no doubt that the Nubia Z17 will indeed come with waterproofing but we’ll have to wait for more details to know the certification level. It is touted to be an IP67 level which means that it is fully protected from dust and can also withstand being submerged in 1m (about 3.3 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. The Nubia Z17 is also expected to feature a Snapdragon 835 chip as well as a dual camera setup touted to be configured as a 23MP + 12MP camera combination. There is no word yet on its launch date but it is likely dropping very soon.

ZTE’s Nubia Z17 flagship may be the next Snapdragon 835-powered smartphone we would be meeting after the HTC U11 but that isn’t the only spectacular thing about the upcoming model. Apart from the revelation that the device would feature a bezel-less display along with the Snapdragon 835 firepower, the Z17 is also coming with an IP67 water and dustproof build.

A short 15 seconds video clip demonstrating the waterproof property of the Nubia Z17 has appeared online on China’s Weibo. The video clearly shows the device under a running tap inside a sink and still operational! There wasn’t any sign of the functioning being affected by water and the picture still remained sharp and crisp clear. We don’t have many details to verify if really the device is the Nubia Z17 as the video only showed the front view of the device. But the smartphone seems to have a bezel-less display just as the Z17 is said to have. The phone also looks like the Nubia Z11 but the Z11 isn’t waterproof and so, could not have continued functioning under water. The Nubia Z17 has lately made a couple of appearances on TENAA and in benchmarks including AnTuTu where it was revealed that the flagship may take the bar to 8GB RAM on its topmost model. There is no doubt its launch is close by, considering that the device had even made a brief appearance on Nubia’s official website, perhaps as a test run or a teaser. The Z17 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup touted to be configured as a 23MP + 12MP camera combination. Further, the phone is said to feature the latest version of Android 7.1.1.

Even when 6GB of RAM is just getting standard on flagship smartphones, it looks like ZTE’s subsidiary, Nubia, is all set to take things to another level with its upcoming Nubia Z17 flagship. The phone is said to come with all the bells and whistles of a 2017 flagship device, but what will reportedly make it special is the amount of RAM inside — a whopping 8GB of RAM!

According to the screenshots obtained by Forbes’ Ben Sin, which by the way is said to be from a reliable source in Shenzhen, the Nubia Z17 scores an impressive 180,049 points on the AnTuTu benchmark test. That’s much higher than the already powerful Galaxy S8 with Snapdragon 835 inside. This score is actually not that surprising given that the phone is said to run on the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset and along with it, there’s 8GB of RAM to make it the multi-tasking king (at least on paper).

Now note that the screenshots confirm the model number to be: NX563J, which unsurprisingly is the same model that showed up on TENAA today and on Geekbench a few days back. With so many sightings, there’s very little doubt that the Nubia Z17 flagship will be announced in the coming weeks.

Nubia seems to have done a good job with its dual camera setup on the Nubia Z17 Mini (our review here!), but with the Z17 flagship, the company is said to take the dual camera setup to the next level with the use of a 23MP + 12MP camera combination. Further, the phone is said to feature the latest version of Android 7.1.1. And yes, the Nubia Z17 flagship is said to continue the bezel-less design seen on its predecessor, the Nubia Z11.

Overall, with 8GB of RAM, Snapdragon 835 and a powerful dual camera setup, the Nubia Z17 could turn out to be a formidable 2017 flagship giving high-end phones like the Galaxy S8 and Huawei P10 Plus a run for their money.

A new Nubia smartphone believed to be the Nubia Z17 has appeared on TENAA thus confirming insinuations that Nubia has a flagship device in the works. The device comes with the model number Nubia NX563J which is a very familiar one as it confirms that this is the same Snapdragon 835-powered device that appeared on AnTuTu recently and on Geekbench earlier on.

Thanks to the TENAA appearance, we get to see what the Nubia flagship machine looks like and it didn’t disappoint. The device comes with a bezel-less display which is without bezels at the side edges. You only get bezels at the top aspect where the front camera and earpiece are located. There is also bezels at the bottom edge where the home button lies. There is no physical home button, instead, the Nubia Z17 comes with the same red circle design on top of the screen indicating where the virtual home button lies. At the rear, the Nubia NX563J comes with a horizontally aligned dual lens camera setup but the LED flash isn’t the strip LED flash which Meizu used on the Meizu E2. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the device.

Going over to the listed specs, the Nubia Z17 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display and is equipped with an octa-core chip clocked at 1.9GHz which looks like a clocked down version of the Snapdragon 835 processor. The memory comes with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage combination but the Z17 is said to have a higher 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version. There is equally a 3100mAh battery inside the flagship device which comes in gold and silver.

The TENAA certification shows that ZTE’s Nubia will soon launch the Z17 flagship smartphone. Next thing we’ll look out for is perhaps a launch invite.

A new Nubia smartphone has appeared on AnTuTu’s Weibo page revealing some key specs of the smartphone. The device hits AnTuTu with the model number Nubia NX563J and the major highlight on the device is the Snapdragon 835 processor it is listed to feature. The Nubia smartphone is very much believed to be the Nubia Z17 which has been the subject of leaks and rumors lately.

The Snapdragon 835 chip is backed by a 6GB RAM while there is a massive 128GB storage onboard. The Nubia smartphone is also listed to pack the Adreno 540 GPU and run on Android 7.0 Nougat. The display size isn’t listed but the suspected Nubia Z17 is pitched as having a 1920 x 1080 pixels display resolution. Finally, we had heard rumours that the Z17 will sport a dual-lens camera setup but all we have on the AnTuTu listing is a single 12MP main camera. That doesn’t rule out the likelihood of the Z17 packing dual cameras at the rear.

Although the AnTuTu listing isn’t the last we’d be hearing about the Nubia Z17 but it goes to show that a launch is imminent. The device had earlier appeared on GeekBench with the same NX563J model number and just recently, the Z17 was spotted on Nubia’s official website with similar specifications.  We expect a launch any moment from now and if that happens, that would make Nubia one of the early birds to the Snapdragon 835 elite club.

After the success of ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini, the company is gearing up for the launch of the Nubia Z17. The alleged smartphone had appeared on the official to reveal some of its key specifications. A leaked shot of the listing was taken before the official listing was taken down. However, the authenticity of the leaked shot has not been confirmed.

The ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini has a horizontally arranged dual rear cameras, but the image of the alleged Nubia Z17 that has appeared on the official listing shows that it will be coming with a vertically stacked twin rear cameras. A fingerprint scanner can be seen present below the rear camera module. Speculations have it that the Nubia Z17 would be coming with 23-megapixel + 12-megapixel dual rear snappers. The phone is expected to come with a 16-megapixel frontal camera.

The frontside of the phone seems to feature dual-edge curved display as the side bezels are not visible. Rumors have revealed that the Nubia Z17 will be coming with a 5.5-inch display. The listing on the official site suggest that the ZTE Nubia Z17 will be available in two RAM variants in China. The base model features 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage whereas the second model has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The ZTE Nubia Z17 can be seen listed in three color options such as Frosted Gray, Aurora Blue and Champagne Gold.  The leaked images of Blue and Gold variants of Nubia Z17 have also appeared in leaked photos recently, but these images show the phone featuring a horizontally designed dual camera setup.

The alleged phone had spotted on Geekbench benchmarking platform in the previous week. It revealed that the smartphone has a model number of NX563J and it is powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset featuring a 1.9 GHz octa-core processor. However, Geekbench listing suggest that it features 4 GB of RAM. The ZTE Nubia Z17 that was used on Geekbench could be a prototype unit or a low-configured variant that is headed to another region outside of China. The ZTE Nubia Z17 is rumored to get announced on June 1.
