Ola Electric Car teased on Diwali, sports rectangular steering wheel

Ola Electric has been working on an electric car for some time now. And during the Diwali festival, the company had shared another promotional video, which teased its first ever electric car. So here are all the interesting details we could spot.

For those unaware, the company has already teased its upcoming electric vehicle in the past as well. Now, the brand has teased the new Ola Electric Car once again, this time offering us a glimpse of the interiors of the vehicle. The teaser was shared on YouTube and shows off the design of the steering wheel, which is quite unique. It features a rectangular design, with digital dials for the driver’s instrumentation. The steering wheel also houses a central infotainment system and a crossover like body style.

Prior to its electric car, the brand had also launched the Ola S1 Air series of electric scooters, which were the most affordable model in the country. So, we can expect some competitive pricing for its electric car as well. The new teaser only offers us a brief look at the interiors, but the rectangular steering design is very different from the conventional circular wheel format. Furthermore, it also has the Ola logo on the center, which is surrounded by backlit steering controls.

Interestingly, the electric car showed off in the teaser video appears to be different from the one we have seen before. The last teaser had showcased a sporty sedan like electric vehicle. Ola Electric is ramping up its activities and profile in the EV market in India. It has announced plans to release a four-wheeler EV that can go from 0 to 100km/h in 4s and has a monster range of 500km. Ola Electric says its innovative car will enter the Indian market in 2024, according to CEO Bharvish Aggarwal.

With such specs, the Ola Electric car will be among the fastest in India when it arrives. The car will also have an exquisite and sporty design featuring an all-glass roof and a class-leading drag coefficient below 2.1.

The car will run on Ola Electric’s in-house technology MoveOS with assisted driving functions available. The company is projecting the new car as an EV that can compete with established brands globally. The MoveOS is also deployed in the Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. It offers keyless and handless functionalities with great performance across all key metrics.

Ola Electric has seen a resurgence in several areas in recent years in spite of some setbacks occasioned by fire incidents involving some of its scooters. In 2021, the company announced the Ola FUTUREFACTORY planned to be the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility. It was projected to produce 10 million scooters annually, but the company now hopes to expand the capacity of the factory to produce 1 million cars annually. The ambitious project is expected to propel Ola Electric to the upper echelons of the EV manufacturing industry.

The CEO of Ola, the popular ride hailing service in India, has just shared a new video teaser for the company’s upcoming electric car. This will be the first model of its kind from the brand and the teaser hints at its design.

Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal shared the teaser on his official Twitter handle. In the tweet, the senior official also said that the company’s first ever electric car will be the “sportiest car ever built in India,” which is a tall claim. Looking at the teaser video, we can tell that the new electric car from the brand will feature a sporty sedan type of design. As of right now, finer details regarding this Ola Car is still unknown.

However, it is believed to be announced sometime by the end of next year. Furthermore, the taxi service has also announced that it will be sharing more information regarding this electric vehicle next month, on August 15. Notably, this wasn’t the first time that the upcoming electric car was teased, with the previous one showcasing the close up of the car’s front from a side angle.

This teaser revealed that the car will feature continuous LED lights across the bumper along with U shaped headlights at the end. The company plans on building the EV entirely in India, with another recent official video revealing the battery cell that will power the brand’s upcoming EV models.
