The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 with AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series processors has been announced. It is designed as a model that sits between the top end of modern Windows PCs and the non-AI powered PCs.

The introduction of the Microsoft Copilot PCs is revolutionizing the PC space and HP is moving in this direction. While Microsoft Copilot PCs are powered by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus chips, the OmniBook Ultra 14 comes with a higher AI performance. The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 comes in a thin and light chassis, while its processor is rated to deliver up to 55 TOPS of AI performance. Its AI performance is higher than the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus Hexagon NPU. The model will support several new features including faster AI image generation, and improved camera effects during video calls, among others.

The OmniBook Ultra 14 has an integrated Radeon 980 GPU while the Ryzen AI 300 is based on the x86 architecture. This implies that the laptop will have greater app compatibility, unlike the ARM-based Copilot+ models. You can also play some of the games yet to be available on Snapdragon X chips laptops due to their anti-cheat systems. The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 has a companion app with the Wolf Security system optimization tool. It also supports Windows Studio Effects and Poly Camera Pro, among others. According to HP, the new laptop will get a free update that unlocks all the current features of the Windows 11 AI suite.

The chassis of the OmniBook Ultra 14 is based on HP’s Spectre laptops for the Ultra. The notebook has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which is the first by any AMD-based HP laptop. It also has a USB-A port and a 3.5mm audio jack. It has a 68Wh battery and is slightly bulkier than the OmniBook X. It is still unclear the quantum of performance offered by the new chip in comparison to the OmniBook X. The new model will go on sale next month with a starting price of $1,450.
