OxygenOS 16

The design language called Breath with You brings in light blur effects and motion-responsive weather themes. The redesigned lock screen supports live wallpapers, depth effects, and interactive widgets.

The update builds ecosystem bridges too, with O+ Connect syncing Androids with Windows, Mac, and even iPhones. Integration with Apple Watch is a surprise twist and it works.

Pixel UI

Google’s Android 16 takes a quieter, more considered path rather than chasing headline-grabbing changes. The most visible update comes through Material 3 Expressive, which introduces resizable quick toggles, haptic sliders, and a dual shade layout that separates notifications from quick settings. The result feels more fluid and easier to manage during everyday use.

AI plays a practical role by tackling notification overload. Android 16 adds AI summaries and a smarter notification organizer that tones down promotional clutter while highlighting messages that actually matter. The lock screen also gains more character through live effects, retro-inspired clock styles, and dynamic weather visuals that respond to real conditions.

Pixel UI continues to lean heavily into photography, backed by Tensor-powered, on-device AI. Features such as Magic Eraser, Best Take, Magic Editor, and Video Boost focus on making advanced photo and video edits feel fast and accessible, while keeping most processing local for better privacy.

Privacy remains a core theme across the update. Tools like Privacy Sandbox, Advanced Protection Mode, and Photo Picker with Cloud Support underline Google’s push toward a privacy-first Android experience, even as AI becomes more deeply integrated.

The recent Android 16 QPR2 update also delivers a noticeable performance boost on Pixel devices. Real-world tasks and graphics see clear improvements, while CPU gains remain modest. These gains likely stem from deeper system-level optimizations, including better memory management, rather than raw hardware changes.

If the colorful shifting wallpaper you loved on One UI 8 suddenly stopped… yeah, that wasn’t your phone being weird. A lot of Galaxy users saw the same thing — and Samsung has finally slipped out a fix.

Dynamic wallpapers were supposed to be one of the fun visual upgrades in One UI 8: a smooth color shift over time that keeps your home and lock screens feeling alive. But once the update landed on more phones, reports started popping up that the colors had frozen completely. Some devices even ditched the animation altogether and fell back to a flat rainbow gradient. Not exactly the intended effect.

Samsung did admit there was a problem and said a patch would be coming, and it’s finally here — not as a full system update, but through Samsung’s Wallpaper and Style app, which is what actually handles live wallpapers and other customization features behind the scenes. According to posts on Samsung’s Community forums, the update specifically tackles the bug that caused animations to stall.

The rollout started in Korea through the Galaxy Store, which is usually a sign that other regions won’t be far behind. If you want to check manually, open the Galaxy Store → tap the menu button in the top-left → Updates. If “Wallpaper and Style” is listed, update it, and the wallpaper should get its motion back.

To manually check for updates, go to Settings > Software updates and tap the Download and install button. Since One UI 8 is a major upgrade, the update package weighs about 2-3GB in size, depending on the device. You must ensure that the device has sufficient storage.

While Samsung is busy with the One UI 8 rollout, it has already started working on the next iteration of its custom skin, One UI 8.5. That one will also be based on Android 16 and will bring significant visual and functional upgrades, enhanced AI capabilities, and greater customizations.

The One UI 8.5 skin will debut on the Galaxy S26 series earlier next year and will later expand to other Galaxy devices. While Samsung hasn’t announced anything about One UI 8.5 as yet, it will likely upgrade all One UI 8 devices to One UI 8.5, or at least most of them.

The company has started rolling out the One UI 8 update on its popular 2022 budget flagship phone as the last ever major OS upgrade. So here’s everything you need to know.

The Galaxy S21 FE Receives Its Last Big Upgrade

For owners of this beloved Samsung “Fan Edition,” a fresh user experience is making its way to the Galaxy S21 FE with the One UI 8 update. The South Korean tech giant is bringing various new features and performance optimizations to the device as well. To recall, Samsung first unveiled the Galaxy S21 FE back in 2022, with promises of four major OS upgrades. So now, this model is officially receiving the last One UI update.

The latest One UI 8 custom skin is based on the Android 16 OS. Keep in mind that this final One UI update doesn’t mean the device has reached the end of its software support cycle. While Galaxy S21 FE users won’t receive Android 17 based One UI 9, Samsung will still roll out security patches for these devices. These can range from a monthly to a quarterly update schedule.

Samsung’s making a strong comeback with One UI 8 following a terrible One UI 7 rollout. The Android 15-based update was supposed to be released last year, but the company only delivered delay after delay, pushing the stable rollout to April 2025. However, that’s a completely different story with One UI 8, as Samsung is on track to wrap up the rollout a month in advance.

After kicking off the One UI 8 beta program in May, starting with the Galaxy S25 series and later expanding it to more Galaxy phones, Samsung finally decided to push the stable release in mid-September. The Galaxy S25 phones were the first in the line to get the Android 16-based One UI 8 update, but the rollout speed since then has been nothing short of impressive.

From being one of the delayed brands to release Android 15, Samsung flipped the coin with Android 16, becoming the first brand (after Google) to push the stable Android 16 update. While the One UI 8 update started rolling out in September, it debuted a month earlier on Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

One UI 8 rollout pace has been remarkable

The Galaxy S25 series was scheduled to receive the One UI 8 update in September, and Samsung delivered on its promise. It was good to see the brand sticking to its promise, but what’s more impressive was that the update also reached several Galaxy phones ahead of schedule, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 series, as well as some mid-range phones.

These phones were scheduled to receive the update in October, but the party began a little earlier. Since the update rolls out in phases, some regions may get it at a later stage. October has seen an even more aggressive rollout of One UI 8. The update expanded to multiple new devices almost every day. Many budget phones, in fact, received the major update well ahead of premium phones like the Galaxy Tab S10 series and Galaxy XCover 7 Pro.

We’re only halfway through October, and the One UI 8 update has already reached nearly all premium and mid-range phones and tablets. Several budget phones from the Galaxy M-series and F-series have also joined the party.

One UI 8 is already rolling out to a big portion of Galaxy devices that were scheduled to receive the update in October. Surprisingly, it has already reached some devices that were scheduled for November, including the Galaxy Tab S10+, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy M53. So, with only a few devices left to receive the update while half of October is still to go, we won’t be surprised if Samsung wraps up the One UI 8 rollout before November.

One UI 8 started rolling out last week for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, bringing a refined interface, updated multitasking features, tweaks to the camera and reminder apps, smoother notifications, and the latest security patch. It also marked what’s expected to be the last major Android upgrade for the 2022 flagship lineup.

However, users on X (formerly Twitter) noticed that the update had suddenly disappeared from Samsung’s servers. A post by @Koram_Akhilesh pointed out the missing firmware, suggesting that Samsung may have pulled it after discovering a stability issue. Samsung will unlikely release the update to these devices in the order in which they are mentioned in the official timeline. That’s because of some weird positioning of several Galaxy devices on the list. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are placed below the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Another instance where the non-5G variants of Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S9 models are placed much below their 5G siblings. They typically receive the update around the same time.

While Samsung is unlikely to follow the device order for One UI 8 release, the update should arrive as promised. If things go as planned, this will be one of the fastest rollouts in Samsung’s history for a major upgrade.

The Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 users may be disappointed from this rollout timeline, as they won’t receive the update this month. These devices have already received the stable One UI 8 update in South Korea.

Yesterday, Samsung started rolling out the stable version of the One UI 8 update, starting with the Galaxy S25 series (including the S25 FE). The update is currently available in limited regions, but it should quickly expand to other regions. The company also published a post on Samsung Newsroom announcing the same, while also revealing rollout details for other Galaxy devices.

The post on Samsung Newsroom website says “One UI 8 will also reach the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S24 FE and additional eligible models later this year.” It also mentions the devices eligible for the One UI 8.0 upgrade but provides no information about the rollout. However, a Samsung Community moderator has published details about the One UI 8 rollout timeline in a post on Samsung Community Forum in South Korea.

According to the timeline, the Galaxy S25 series (including S25 FE) will get the update in September, which has already begun. With half of this month still to go, we were expecting more Galaxy devices to receive the stable update in September, but Samsung has different plans.

That’s because major changes have already been installed into beta devices via beta builds. The latest update changes the beta state to stable and brings minor improvements. The Galaxy S24 series received the first One UI 8 beta update earlier this month, and now the second beta has arrived. As one would expect, there are several bug fixes and a new September 2025 security patch. Nothing else is mentioned in the changelog, but further investigation reveals that Samsung has actually added three new AI features.

The AI features included with the second One UI 8 beta update are Audio Eraser v2, Call Captions, and Now Brief. The Audio Eraser v2 and Call Captions features were first spotted in the initial One UI 8 betas of Galaxy S25.

The Now Brief, though, isn’t a brand new feature. It debuted on the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7, but Samsung didn’t bring this feature to any other Galaxy device with the One UI 7 update. That’s changing, as the One UI 8 beta for the S24 series includes this feature. A few other Galaxy devices may also receive this feature with the stable release.

This is an AI-powered feature that provides users with a personalized daily briefing of selected content that updates throughout the day. It’s accessible via the Now Bar, through a widget on the home screen, and the Edge panel. This feature displays bite-sized information such as weather updates, upcoming events, health insights, reminders, and missed calls.

Now Brief is designed to keep users organized and informed by delivering relevant, timely updates. The good thing is that Samsung processes most of its personalized data on the device itself rather than fully relying on the cloud. The company uses Personal Data Engine (PDE) and Knox Vault security to store and process user data locally, while also ensuring the data remains private and protected on the device.

Audio Eraser v2

Samsung’s Audio Eraser feature, debuted with One UI 7, uses AI to automatically identify audio tracks in a video and remove background noise. The tool can identify up to six distinct sound sources in a video and allows users to reduce, remove, or enhance  individual sound types based on their needs.

One UI 8 beta brings an upgraded Audio Eraser that also works with Samsung Notes and Voice Recorder (previously limited to Gallery). In both of these apps, once you record the audio, a small Galaxy AI icon appears below the audio; tapping it instantly removes the noise from the audio. So, the improved Audio Eraser doesn’t require a dedicated screen to remove noise. Samsung has also made the feature faster inside the Gallery app.

Call Captions

The new Call captions feature, spotted in the second One UI 8 beta for the S24 series, provides real-time captions for voice calls using AI. Samsung One UI 8 rollout timeline

Samsung has officially confirmed that the stable rollout of One UI 8 will begin in September 2025, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. It could also reach a few other Galaxy devices, such as the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, in the same month.

The stable One UI 8 rollout will then gradually cover the remaining Galaxy S-series models and Galaxy Tablets over the coming weeks. Some Galaxy A-series models, especially those part of the One UI 8 beta program, may receive the stable release sooner than many premium models.

Although the detailed update roadmap is under wraps, Samsung promises to bring the One UI 8 update to all eligible Galaxy devices before the end of this year. Unlike last year, the brand is sticking to all its promises, and hopefully, things will only continue to improve over time.

Samsung’s also making major changes to its One UI rollout strategy, according to which major Android and One UI versions will be released in the middle of the year alongside foldable phones. In fact, this change is already in action, as the One UI 8 debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July. The newer Galaxy S-series phones, meanwhile, launching early in the year will ship with an incremental software, likely One UI x.5. (Read more about it here)

What’s new in One UI 8?

Enhanced productivity and multitasking

One UI 8 adds a dedicated full-screen layout for Quick Share. Tapping the Quick Settings icon triggers “Ready to receive,” while a new Send tab lets you share files without opening another app.

Split screen is more flexible now — you can stretch one app as wide as you like (previously ~70%). Tapping the minimized app swaps it to the larger pane.

Samsung DeX also receives useful tweaks that allow users to change screen resolution and adjust rotation, which is particularly beneficial for vertical monitors.

Personalization and automation

The latest upgrade brings new dynamic live wallpapers that shift colors with the time of day — bright by day, darker by evening — for a subtle quality-of-life boost.

And, building on last year’s big Modes and Routines update, One UI 8 introduces new routines like Cold weather alert, Morning briefing, and Umbrella reminder to make it more useful.

Samsung has made Profile Card editing clearer, showing the full layout as you make changes.

Redesigned and smarter apps

Many apps have been upgraded with cleaner looks and smarter behaviors. Take the Gallery app, for example; it now auto-sorts screenshots into categories like Boarding Passes, Coupons, Shopping, and Locations for easier and quicker finding.

My Files now lets you filter downloads by the app they came from, and its compact categories put more content on screen. The Weather app now has smoother animations and hyper-realistic backgrounds.

The Reminder app also gets updated with a fresh design with top-placed category chips, suggests templates or past reminders as you type, and adds a new toolbar to insert checkmarks, media, date, location, and categories right from the input field.

The Calendar app now has a modern look with deeper blacks for eye comfort and integrates Reminders so you can create them directly. Additionally, it allows you to reschedule reminders by simply dragging and dropping them to new dates.

Privacy and accessibility

Secure Folder in One UI 8 gets more secure, as you can now assign a separate fingerprint for access. Additionally, you can hide other apps inside it, and even hide the Secure Folder entirely so it won’t show notifications or appear in suggestions.

Accessibility has received new options, including zooming the screen with buttons, controlling mouse actions via the keyboard, magnifying the on-screen keyboard, and pairing Bluetooth hearing aids directly from the Accessibility settings.

Other notable improvements

In the Camera app, you can remap the swipe down/up gesture to open controls (it previously only switched cameras).

Audio sharing is simpler — others can scan a QR code to join your Bluetooth audio.

One UI 8 makes managing Alarms a lot  easier with a Home screen widget that controls an entire group, plus the ability to add existing alarms to groups.

The Samsung Health app now lets you challenge friends to fitness goals and can send health reminders if you’ve set it up already.

Earlier this month, Samsung announced its plan to expand One UI 8 beta to more Galaxy phones and tablets. The Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 quickly received the beta update following the announcement, with more Galaxy devices set to join the party next month. How to get the One UI 8 beta on your Samsung phone?

1. Open the Samsung Members app on your phone. (You can install it via the Galaxy Store if you haven’t already.
2. Look for the One UI 8 beta banner and tap on it.

After more than two months, Samsung is expanding the One UI 8 beta to more Galaxy phones, and it has already announced its plans for further expansion in September (more on that later). Here’s a list of Samsung devices that are currently getting the One UI 8 beta update.

After a long wait, Samsung is finally expanding the One UI 8 beta program beyond the Galaxy S25 series. The beta update starts rolling out today for Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in select regions, and is planned to reach more Galaxy phones (including some mid-range phones) in the coming weeks.

While it feels great to test out new features before the majority gets to experience them, there are a couple of steps you must follow for a smooth upgrade, especially when it’s a beta update.

1. Understand the risk

While most of you may already be aware of the risks associated with beta builds, it’s just a reminder that you shouldn’t test such builds on your primary device. For those uninitiated, beta builds generally contain bugs and unfinished/broken features. The software experience may also be less than smooth.

Also, note that there’s no easy way to roll back to stable One UI 7 software without erasing your data. Hence, it’s strongly recommended to take a complete backup before installing a beta build (more on that below).

2. Back up your data

Before installing a major upgrade like One UI 8, it’s recommended that you take a complete backup to prevent data loss in case of installation failures. Although such things happen rarely nowadays, it’s always better to safeguard data so as not to cry later.

The best way out is to set up automatic backups using cloud storage, such as Google Drive or Mega. You can also use Samsung Cloud to back up your files for free, with no storage limit. The only catch here is that your files remain stored on servers for 30 days. So, remember to restore your files from Samsung Cloud before they are automatically deleted.

3. Install pending updates

Your Samsung phone must be running the latest software to participate in the One UI 8 beta program. To check for available updates, go to Settings > Software updates and tap the Download and install button.

Although not mandatory, it’s also recommended that you update all the updates on your device. You can update Samsung apps via the Galaxy Store and the remaining via the Google Play Store.

4. Install the Samsung Members app

To participate in the One UI 8 beta program, you must have the Samsung Members app on your device. You can install it from the Galaxy Store.

If you already have the app, ensure it’s up to date. You’ll find the One UI 8 beta banner inside the app when your device becomes eligible for it.

5. Ensure the device has sufficient storage and battery

One UI 8 is a major upgrade, and its download size is likely to be a couple of gigabytes (GBs). You must make sufficient room on the internal storage. For optimal performance, you should keep at least 10GB of free space.

Battery is another key thing to look at before installing a major upgrade. It’s recommended that you keep at least 30% battery before hitting the install button, so the device doesn’t shut off during the update installation. Otherwise, it might lead to installation failure, which can be a headache to fix later on.

After announcing the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series in May, the brand has recently announced its expansion to more devices along with the release timeline. Next week, the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6 users will be able to install One UI 8 beta.

More Galaxy devices will join the One UI 8 beta program in September, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and several Galaxy A-series models (see the complete list here). Following the One UI 8 beta release to these eligible devices, Samsung will kick off the stable rollout, likely starting with the Galaxy S25 series in late September.

As always, the Galaxy S-series and Z-series models will be among the first phones to receive the One UI 8 update, followed by the mid-range Galaxy A-series, and then gradually rolling it out to the remaining devices. Samsung will likely upgrade all eligible devices to One UI 8 before the end of this year.

After a frustratingly slow rollout of One UI 7, Samsung’s making a quick turnaround with One UI 8, and a big reason is the adoption of Google’s trunk-based development. This helped Google build Android 16 faster, and as a result, it was released months ahead of its usual release timeline. Samsung was also able to release One UI 8 faster using trunk-based development. In fact, that’s also changing how Samsung releases major software.

According to recent reports, Samsung will release major One UI software with its new Galaxy Z series foldable phones in the middle of the year, while the new Galaxy S-series phones will release with One UI x.5 software featuring notable improvements. In fact, this change is already live, as the latest foldables, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and Fold 7 SE, were released with One UI 8, and the upcoming Galaxy S26 series is said to debut in early 2026 with One UI 8.5.

What’s new in One UI 8?

One UI 8 doesn’t bring major changes like One UI 7, but still, there are many useful additions and improvements to look forward to. Here are the major highlights of One UI 8.

1. Enhanced productivity and multitasking

One UI 8 brings a dedicated full-screen layout for Quick Share. Tapping on the icon in the Quick Settings panel triggers the “Ready to receive” action. There’s also a “Send” tab that allows you to send files without needing to use a different app.

The split screen has become more useful with the latest changes. You can now stretch one app to as much as you want, previously limited to around 70% of the screen. When you tap the minimized app, it takes up the larger space, and the other app gets minimized.

Samsung Dex also gets nice upgrades. It now allows users to change the screen resolution. The display rotation can also be tweaked, which is particularly helpful when you want to use a monitor vertically.

2. Personalization and automation

The update brings new dynamic live wallpapers that change the colors based on the time. They are usually bright and colorful during the day and gradually transition to a darker theme as the sun sets. Although not a major thing, it’s a nice quality-of-life improvement.

Another helpful feature is that you can easily reschedule reminders in the Calendar app by dragging and dropping them to new dates.

4. Privacy and accessibility

The Secure Folder gets more secure in One UI 8 with the latest features. You can now assign a different fingerprint to access the Secure Folder. You can also hide other apps within for additional protection. One UI 8 allows users to completely hide Secure Folder, which means it won’t show any notifications or appear in app suggestions.

For all its sleek design, this razor-thin phone struggles to last as long as you’d hope. Apple is working on AI-powered battery optimization, and there’s a good chance Samsung will follow suit with something similar in this update.

Android updates have mostly been iterative in recent years, but this shift toward “smarter” resource management could actually make One UI 8 for S25 Edge stand out. Samsung is adding the June 2025 security patch as well with the download size being around 3.6GB. This

One UI 8 new features and changes

One UI 8 doesn’t bring major changes like One UI 7, but still, there are many useful additions and improvements to look forward to. Here are the major highlights of One UI 8.

1. Enhanced productivity and multitasking

One UI 8 brings a dedicated full screen layout for Quick Share. Tapping on the icon in the Quick Settings panel triggers the “Ready to receive” action. There’s also a “Send” tab that allows you to send files without needing to use a different app.

The split screen has become more useful with the latest changes. You can now stretch one app to as much as you want, previously limited to around 70% of the screen. When you tap the minimized app, it takes the larger space, and the other app gets minimized.

Samsung Dex also gets nice upgrades. It now allows users to change the screen resolution. The display rotation can also be tweaked, which is particularly helpful when you want to use a monitor vertically.

2. Personalization and automation

The update brings new dynamic live wallpapers that change the colors based on the time. They are usually bright and colorful during the day and gradually transition to a darker theme as the sun sets. Although not a major thing, it’s a nice quality-of-life improvement.

One UI 7 introduced significant changes to modes and routines, and the new version builds upon that. It brings new routines, such as Cold weather alert, Morning briefing, and Umbrella reminder.

The latest changes make it easier to customize a Profile Card by displaying the full layout while making changes.

3. Redesigned and smarter apps

One UI 8 brings meaningful changes to many apps, making them more useful, easier to use, and offering a cleaner look. Take the Gallery app, for example: it automatically sorts screenshots into categories such as Boarding passes, Coupons, Shopping, and Locations for quicker access.

The downloaded files in the My Files app now allow you to filter files based on the app from which they were downloaded. There are also some UI changes. The categories are now compact, making room for more content on the screen. The Weather app has also been updated with smoother animations and features hyper-realistic backgrounds. 

The Reminder app receives a fresh, modern look, with categories displayed prominently at the top of the home screen in rounded boxes. The app now suggests templates or past reminders as you type, speeding up the process. There’s also a new toolbar that lets you add checkmarks, media, date, location, and assign reminders to categories directly from the input area.

The Calendar app isn’t left out, as it also gets several meaningful upgrades. It now features a cleaner, modern look with deeper black backgrounds for improved eye comfort. It’s now integrated with the Reminders app, and as a result, you can now create reminders directly from the Calendar app. This simplifies task and schedule management.

Another helpful feature is that you can easily reschedule reminders in the Calendar app by dragging and dropping them to new dates.

4. Privacy and accessibility

The Secure Folder gets more secure in One UI 8 with the latest features. You can now assign a different fingerprint to access the Secure Folder. You can also hide other apps within for additional protection. One UI 8 allows users to completely hide Secure Folder, which means it won’t show any notifications or appear in app suggestions.

One UI 8 also brings several accessibility improvements, such as zooming the screen with buttons, controlling mouse actions with a keyboard, magnifying the onscreen keyboard, and pairing Bluetooth hearing ads directly from Accessibility settings.

The Camera app now lets you customize the swipe-down/swipe-up action to open the camera controls; previously, it was limited to camera switching. One UI 8 also makes it easier to connect multiple Bluetooth audio devices by allowing other users to scan the QR code to join the audio.

Users can now control all alarms in a group directly from a Home screen widget. Also, they can add existing alarms to groups. The Samsung Health app gets a nice addition that lets you challenge friends to fitness goals. The app also reminds you to have good, provided that you have set it up already.

The company has already kicked off the One UI 8 beta program, with the latest Galaxy S25 series getting the first bite — and its expansion appears to be happening a lot quicker than the previous version.

Galaxy S24, S23 series to get One UI 7 beta soon

According to tipster Tarun Vats (@tarunvats33), the Galaxy S24 series will get the first One UI 8 beta towards the end of June, but it could slip to July. The Galaxy S23 lineup could also join the beta program in early to mid-July. While it’s good to hear about the initial rollout plans, it’s wise to take them with a pinch of salt, as beta releases could always face delays due to bugs.

Samsung hasn’t officially shared its roadmap for expanding the One UI 8 beta to more devices, but there’s reason to believe things will move quicker this time. That’s because One UI 8 is a relatively minor upgrade compared to the much bigger One UI 7 release. However, it remains to be seen if the beta program will extend beyond the Galaxy S series.

Samsung‘s One UI 8, based on Android 16, has started rolling out in beta to select Galaxy devices starting this week. Since One UI 7 is a big overhaul for Samsung, the new OS doesn’t radically rethink the Android skin; rather, it’s a quiet shuffle of software updates, tweaks to design, and some behind-the-scenes adjustments. 

Even in the restrained evolution, Samsung has pushed a few new updates that are worth noting. So here is a look at the top five features in One UI 8. 

As usual, some features might not be available on all devices, and Samsung will likely add or remove things based on feedback during the beta phase.

Improved AI and Local Processing Controls

Samsung is improving AI on One UI 8 with multimodal capabilities. Samsung says its improved multimodal AI can now understand on-screen context better. The goal, according to the company, is to make communication more natural and better. 

Samsung is also giving users more say in how this AI works. There’s now a dedicated setting to limit AI functions to on-device data processing. So if you’re concerned about where your information is going, this might offer some peace of mind.

Device-Specific UI Tweaks Across the Galaxy Line

Samsung has quietly been making its software more adaptable to different hardware, and One UI 8 continues that trend. The interface now tailors itself more precisely depending on the type of device you’re using, whether that’s a foldable like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, a tablet like the Galaxy Tab S10, or a standard phone.

Now Bar and Developer Access

Samsung added the Now Bar on One UI 7 to display context-relevant information on the lock screen and always-on display. But it was only limited to Samsung’s internal use. 

That’s changing with One UI 8, as Now Bar is now open for developers to access via public API. That means third-party developers can tap into it for their apps. 

It’s essentially a contextual mini-hub that changes based on what you’re doing—watching a video, browsing the web, or using a productivity app.

The API support could make it more useful if developers actually adopt it. In its current state, the Now Bar feels like a good idea still waiting for a reason to exist. Samsung’s gamble is that letting outside developers in will give the feature more legs.

Smarter Reminders and Routine Automations

I am pretty fond of Samsung’s Reminder app to keep track of my daily tasks. It’s minimal and does what it needs to do with no extra flair. Samsung, however, thinks the app needs a bit more refinement, and it’s making those changes in One UI 8.

In the new Reminder app, you can see all categories on the main screen in rounded boxes. Each box has its own icons, name, and count of reminders within it. You can also hide custom categories with a tap and share to-do lists with friends or family. More interestingly, you can now use voice control to add new reminders.

Tied to this is an update to Routines, Samsung’s automation tool. With One UI 8, there’s now integration with Calendar and Samsung Notes, so automations can trigger based on events or note-taking activity. 

There’s also support for new alarm-based routines. It might not be as flexible as something like Tasker or iOS Shortcuts, but it covers enough of the basics for casual users to find value.

Quick Share, Alarm Widgets, and Bluetooth Audio Improvements

A handful of smaller updates round out One UI 8. Quick Share is getting more frictionless with a new shortcut button that lets you accept incoming files without launching the app.

Alarm management also sees a few minor gains. Android Police discovered that grouped alarms now come with interactive widgets, allowing for quicker toggles and edits.

Samsung is also adopting Auracast, the Bluetooth LE Audio feature that simplifies audio sharing. Multiple Galaxy Buds (and compatible devices) can now join a single audio stream by scanning a QR code. It’s a cleaner alternative to pairing everything manually.

A Nod to Security and DeX Expansion

Samsung is also uplifting privacy and security with changes to Knox Vault. The company says it’s making better use of its dedicated security processor to isolate sensitive data like passwords and biometrics. 

As usual, these are incremental security improvements that most users won’t see, but that nonetheless form part of Samsung’s long-term pitch to enterprise and privacy-conscious customers.

Also worth mentioning is an update to DeX, Samsung’s desktop-style interface. With Android 16 as its foundation, DeX is evolving into a more consistent desktop mode.

The second beta update is expected to squash bugs reported in the first beta, which launched in the US, UK, South Korea, and Germany for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Users in these regions have been testing features like enhanced Quick Share, smarter My Files, and a 12GB RAM Plus option, but some hiccups, like app crashes and Now Bar notification issues, have popped up.

Beyond bug fixes, One UI 8 Beta 2 might include new tweaks to make the Galaxy experience smoother. While specifics remain under wraps, Samsung’s focus on multimodal AI and streamlined interfaces suggests improvements to AI tools like Now Brief.

Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the details of Beta 2 yet, so we’re awaiting an announcement outlining the fixes and new features.
